Hey there does anyone know if you do your fast days on 2 consecutive days rather than non consecutive. Are there benefits or does it matter????

Littlewing – how has the weight loss been? I also prefer Monday & Tuesday but haven’t seen any weight loss yet (only on my second week though). I thought like yourself that non consecutive days were recommended as it was easier but would be interested to know if it is OK to do consecutive days / does it work
The 5:2 diet recommends fasting on 2 consecutive days, unlike the fast diet. Their reasoning only seems to be that it you are more likely to achieve 2 days a week if they are consecutive, no real health benefits. I tried it but I really, really struggled on the second day! I prefer the fast diet suggestion of non consecutive days – I guess do what suits you. I find that one day goea quickly and I have a sense of achievement at the end of it – and I really enjoy my breakfast the next day!
Joanne, I’ve lost 6lb in 3 weeks of a total of 14lb I wanted to lose, so halfway there! I’ve considered trying non-consecutive days but tbh Monday and Tuesday are just the best days that fit in with my week. Both days feel as equally tough, I don’t wake up feeling more hungry the second fast day, as my hunger generally doesn’t kick in til mid-afternoon anyway, even on normal days!
With regards to not losing weight so far, it sounds boring, but exercise might help if you aren’t already, especially on your fast days 🙂
Good luck!
@lizhunter What is difference between 5:2 and the fast diet? I thought they were just different shorthand names for the same thing.
@charlieblue et al My experience is: I’ve been doing this since Sept and have always fasted on non-consecutive days and rarely kept to any pattern, depends on my schedule but have made sure I fast 2 days out of each 7.
I rarely weigh myself as find I can get too excited/despondent with fluctuations. I have dropped one and a half dress sizes since Sept, though.
Good luck, however you choose to implement this way of eating 🙂
I fast Tuesday Thursday because I work those days and found it easier to do while I am working. Not been too bad over the holidays though. I cant remember seeing that consecutive days were recommended. Not sure but I wouldnt like to fast two days in a row. Id rather feel the benefits while looking forward to tomorrow for a treat! Two days in a row, youd feel starved I think. One day is more manageable I think.
It doesn’t matter whether you choose consecutive days or not. Michael said in the book that he found non consecutive days easier. Go with what suits you best. I do a mix of B2B and non consecutive days depending on how may days I intend to fast (I usually fast for more than 2 days per week)and how it fits in with my schedule. That is one of the many bonuses of this WOE, it fits in with you rather than rule your life!
I am new to 5:2 fast diet, for you female’s out there, on your fast days, what do you recommend I eat for my 500 calories that will keep me full. On your 5 other days, how many calories should I be consuming to see results. I am looking to lose about 25 pounds by March 1, 2014. Thanks in advance and wish me luck. 🙂
Hi Dawnie and welcome:
Many people find that eating one meal in the evening that is high in fat and protein works best.
On non diet days you need to eat to your TDEE or less. The link that follows includes the number 4 link that explains TDEE.
Your 25 pounds in 8 weeks goal is very aggressive. The average weight loss on 5:2 over time is about a pound a week. You have set a goal of three pounds a week. To do that will be very hard so don’t get discouraged if you don’t meet your goal. Cutting almost 11000 (1500 per day) calories a week from your diet will be hard.

Good Luck!
