  • Am about to start this and will see how it goes. Have always been a big fan of Weightwatchers as that is basically about healthy sensible eating coupled with sensible sustainable exercise. Can anyone tell me whether after a while your body acclimatises to the fasting so that you get the classic plateauing effect of many diets and weight loss slows or even stops? Would you have to up your fasting days for example to overcome the plateau?

Hi, Snibs – Love that name! – The short answers are: Yes, plateaux seem to be quite common. Various tactics seem to help: such as shifting from 5:2 to 4:3 for a while; or, changing one’s fast day schedule or feeding timetable; or, monitoring actual intake more carefully for a while and modifying it, especially on non-fast days, etc, etc. Change in pattern seems to be the key means to kick-start further weight-loss and the 5:2 system is flexible enough for this to be do-able. If you read around the various topics, hopefully you will find the relevant discussions on this subject. I wish you very positive results.
