  • Oooh I’m confused! I take it that for two days a week ( meaning from waking to sleeping) I have 500 cals on each day ( each day being whatever day I choose, for me this is Monday and Thursday) so I woke this morning and have had a light lunch at 12.30 ( soup and 1 egg) and am planning a fish and veg supper. I will be under 500 cal for day when I go to bed tonight. I have drunk loads of water, green tea and fruit tea. When I wake tomorrow I will have a normal but careful eating day. Does this sound ok?? Or should I be counting my fast from the evening meal the night before a fast day?? Sorry if I’m confusing you all as well as my self!!

@kate76 what you are doing is absolutely fine. If you have nothing to eat from AFTER dinner on your non fast day until your light lunch on the fast day you will have fasted for approx 18 hours then you have your light dinner on the fast day and start eating normally at breakfast on the next day you will have completed 36 hours with only a 500 calorie intake which is what you are aiming for. You don’t need to count any of the meals on your non fast days as part of your 500 cals.

So if I eat after my meal the eve before my fast day then I’m not doing it right? Some people have breakfasts on a fast day so this would not be 18hr fast since last eve meal? Should I be having 18hr between food? Thank you for guidance, think I better re read book!! I thought you could eat anytime on non fast day and anytime on fast day As long as not over 500 cal :/

If you have dinner on a non fast day then from AFTER dinner until lunch on the fast day is approximately 18 hours! If you eat up till midnight that wouldn’t be 18 hours, more like 12 but it would be your choice whether or not to do this.

Yes some people have breakfast on a fast day but that is what suits them. There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way. You fit it into your life style.

Your fast ‘day’ goes from whenever you stop eating on the non fast day until you start eating on the next non fast day and you have only 500 calories during this time. Whether this is 24 or 36 hours is up to you.

How everyone chooses to divide these calories up is entirely up to the individual. 1,2 or 3 meals…it’s a personal choice and whatever suits a person’s life best.

Please don’t get to hung up on 18 hour fasts/12 hour fast etc. It gets easier with practice, I promise you.

Thank you for your comments xx
