  • hi all after a busy january, febuary is the start to the new me. i have five months untill a two week holiday to Mauritius with my partner and a goal weightloss of 3 stone! im hoping documenting my journey will motivate me to succeed. i have started of on a fast day, thought a monday was just as good as any! so far so good, its 12:34 and not a drop of food has past these lips. however i am contemplating a tin of soup to see me through till diner time. wish luck 🙂

Hi there I always have a low calorie soup at lunch-time and then I use the rest of my calories in the evening. It is very easy once you get into the swing of it.

    Good luck 🙂

hmm i may have to rethink the soup. didnt realise the one i already had in the cupboard was 200 cals :-/ but i am thinking a low cal soup is a good idea on fasting days. have you been doing the plan long? how is it going?

    Hi all

It’s my first day today too, I thought I’d give it a go as it sounds pretty straight forward. Do you do the 500 cal days one after the other? Or should it be spread out through week? Or does it really matter?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi all – my first day too – and still waiting for hunger to show itself 🙂 Best of luck to everybody.

im not sure which one is best people seem to spread it out by what i can gather. i might just see how i feel tomorrow and go from there

good luck to you to!! i am armed with multi vitamins aswell!! im hungry but not to bad. im feeling confident. i have fasted be whilst completing the clean 9 detox and that went ok!

I think I’m going to do the 2 fast days one after the other. As I tend to eat a bit more over the weekend, so by the time Monday comes round I’m usually ready to be healthier. I’m aiming for a weightloss of 14lbs. Good luck everyone.

I look forward to hearing how everyone is doing 🙂

well i was thinking if i did the two together i could make my own batch of soup to be eaten over the two days. but i will see.

Hi I started on 6 January and as of 31 January I had lost 8.5 lbs. I am only weighing in once a month. I honestly ate what I wanted on the non-fast days and I was really surprised to have lost so much. I tend to do Monday & Wednesday but last week I did 4:3 as we had a busy weekend. I will alternate between 5:2 and 4:3 depending on what we have on and if we have been out a lot. My husband as only done 2 weeks and he has lost 6lbs.

thats great! well done! i hve heard of people doing the 4-3 now and then to boost weight loss. im looking for an average of 2lb per week loss which is reasonably i think

You will easily lose 2 lbs per week on 5:2. Do you live in the UK? If so the soup I get is the M&S Country Veg which is 150 calories for the full 600ml pot. It is really filling and it means I can have a prawn stir fry or chicken stir fry in the evening so I honestly don’t see it as a diet – it is definitely a way of life.

Keep us posted when you weigh in 🙂

Katie48 – doing both fast days one after the other is pretty hardcore, I know I couldn’t do it! I tend to do mine on Monday and Thursdays leaving the weekends free, I definitely eat more over sat and sun but the weight has still come off come my weigh in on Monday mornings.

well for now i have manages too find a slim-a-soupp in the cupboard highly doubt it will be filling tho lol. got my meal planned for tonight and already looking forward to it! jfitzy- lilyb- how long have you been doing it ? what are your outcomes?

Hi all – @katie48 @keeleyjs @amoux it’s advised to have 2 non consecutive fasting days. This is just to make it easier and more sustainable..if you feel that 2 consecutive days will work for you – go for it.

The main thing about this way of eating is that you fit it in to your lifestyle. You do it the way it works for you. And on non fast days it’s about eating WHAT you want NOT HOW MUCH you want. calculate your BMR and TDEE – there is a link at the top of the page called ‘how?’ where there is a calculator and and explanation of these terms and why you should know them.
When you’ve done that aim to be ABOVE your BMR and UP TO your TDEE on non fast days. It can help to use an app like http://www.myfitnesspal.com to help you track calories for a couple of weeks so you can get an idea of portion sizes etc. It’s only too easy to underestimate calorie values!! 😀

Again whether you do 5:2; 4:3; or ADF (alternate day fasting) is entirely up to you. I sometimes set out to do a 4:3 week and something comes up and I end up with a 5:2 or if I have done 2 fast days I’ll add another as the mood take me. If you plan to fast on two particular days and something happens on one of the days – do it another day.

Don’t spend your fast day ‘waiting for the hunger to show itself’ – what you might think is hunger is more often thirst so drink lots water, herbal teas, black coffee or tea. If you don’t like your tea or coffee black just make sure you account for any milk or sugar in your 500 cals.

Oh and take your measurements…chest/waist/hips. Sometimes when you don’t see a weight loss you see an inch loss! @keeleyjs you may or may not lose 2lb per week depending on your life style..but even 1lb per week is a good rate of loss.

Once you get your head round it, it becomes second nature and very easily sustainable.

    Good luck

    xx

thanks that is really helpfull. just worked out my bmr and tdee… i was wondering about calorie intake on non fast days. 🙂

Hi Keeley, my first day too. I started the 5:2 last week and had lost 4lbs 4ozs by Friday.

I make all my own soups, low calorie and much better for you than commercial stuff.

    I wish you luck.

well i have managed to fast all day just finished my evening meal so hopefully i will resist any urges this evening tried to stretch the time of dinner out longer but was feeling woozy! but still within five hundred cals with room for a couple more cups of tea before bed!! feeling positive 🙂 hope everyone had a god day! and well done on 4.4 oz thats a great start! im hoping for a good lose in first week but i never do unlike some who lose loads in first week..

First fast day complete! Today i started with the intension of attempting a fast day and if I failed I would try again tomorrow but I succeeded! Feeling proud 🙂

Well done!! it gets easier each time

    xx
