  • Hi All

I’m a 38yr old female with an office job.
I started this last week doing my fast tuesday & then thursday and stayed under the 500cals each day. I made a veggie dish of turnip sprouts parsnip carrots & peas to have for lunch approx. 1pm and dinner approx. 7pm. I then ate normally the rest of the week, staying under 2000cals as per my TDEE though did have a pizza and drinks sat nite and an indian last nite and today when I weighed myself I’ve gained 1LB. Can someone please tell me where I’m going wrong or should I just record my weight on a Wednesday after Tuesdays fast?

    Hi Sam,

Two things I can think of to check:

First – is your TDEE actually 2000? I mention as I know I was surprised to find mine was far less when I input my details – around 1600. This doesn’t make a huge amount of difference to calories allowed on a fast day but it could make a difference to the total for a non-fast day. On a weekly basis the loss just comes down to arithmetic – basically eating less calories than you need to stay the same (your TDEE).

And the second is really just to try to measure your non-fast day consumption as accurately as you can. I don’t like the idea of calorie counting generally – and I don’t do it myself I just have a rough guess – but when you are not losing it can be worth just checking this for a week or two to make sure you are not eating more than you think.

And I’d just pick a weekly weigh day. I always weigh the morning after my last fast day of the week (that is my lowest point) – but I know if I get on the scales on other days, it may have gone up a bit – until I complete the fast days the following week.

Good luck – and let us know how you get on!

Hi Sam and well done on your first week,

please do not be so hard on yourself, this way of eating/life takes time and I personally didn’t start loosing for the first few weeks!
1lb isn’t much really and it might not even be anything to do with food, so many factors can contribute, but I am sure you will loose it very soon, keep at it, don’t let the scales rule your life, and don’t loose heart because it really does work, have faith and give it more time.. I bet your next post will be a very different one 🙂

let us know how you get on! x

    Hi ladies

Thanks ever so much for your replys.

I was very down hearted this morning as I was expecting a loss, especially after reading so many positive posts on this and reading the book I had myself all excited, only to be let down.

I will most certainly take your advice and appreciate your comments. This is a new way of life for me, and you’re right I wont let the scales bring me down, and will review my loss again on Friday, wish me luck & thanks again x

Hey Sam well done on picking yourself up 🙂

you are right, its a new way of life for you, and for your body too, give it time to adjust and let 5.2 work its magic 🙂

    good luck hun x

Hi Sam, It’s understandable to feel disappointed – you have had less calories and are excited to see if you have lost weight and then, when you haven’t, or put some on, you wonder whether it was worth it.

I think the thing is everyone is different and have different amounts to lose and so will lose (or gain) differently. I can be really good one week and lose nothing and not so good another week and lose a pound or two.

Cath’s right about the TDEE. I try not to count calories either but, after a while you get to know roughly how many calories you are eating. The concept is that you can eat what you like on non-fast days but it doesn’t mean you can eat as much as you like. If I’ve had a bit too much one day I just try to cut back the next day.

Good luck and keep us posted – Linda

Thanks Linda, its great to know I’m not alone on this.
Its definitely going to be a way of life for me, I’ve been overweight and feel like I’ve been on a diet most of my life and I don’t want to reach 40 (in August 2015) and be this size.
I stepped on the scale last Monday and was 17stone and though I’m tall and am told I can carry it my father was diagnosed with diabetes and I know I’m a cert for getting it if I carry on the way I was. When I saw 17stone 1Lb this morning I was down but after reading so many positive comments on this and with the support of you all I know I can do this.
Thanks to all & I’ll keep u posted xx

    Hey Sam,
I think that I would point the finger at fluid retention. I know that if I eat rice then the next day I weigh more from fluid retention. Pizza is also very salty which also leads to fluid retention.
When I know that psychologically I really need to get a good number on the scales they are two things that I avoid like the plague. 🙂
Hang in there and keep going you will have lost fat and the fluid retention should disappear pretty quickly. Bet you see a good result next week.

    Thanks Ghostgirl, that’s appreciated 🙂
I’m fasting again today and Thursday so I’ll save my next weigh in until Friday.
I’m currently sipping hot water and lemon as its freezing over here in Belfast – wishing it was a hit chocolate and a muffin but knowing I can have it tomorrow makes it even better 🙂

Good luck with everything and thanks again x

lol – Enjoy your hot chocolate tomorrow – would give anything for a cold breeze at the moment. 45 degrees celcius here today in Melbourne with 41 degrees forecast for tomorrow. Plenty of sparkling mineral water on the menu here – even on the non fast days. 🙂

Well ladies I weighed myself today and I’ve lost 6lbs!! I’m over the moon & will keep Friday as my weigh in day with tue & thu as my fast days.
I’ve just got a wedding invitation for 19th April today, so something to aim for. I’ve even got a baked potato with tuna salad for lunch today which is so not like me, thought I would have been tucking into currys and chips but not for me today – perhaps save it as a treat for the wkend.

Thanks for all the support over the past few days and good luck to all of you with your fasts xx

Oh Sam that’s brilliant – it must make you feel great! And always good to have a goal to aim for – think of looking slimmer in a great outfit in April.

Keep going – you know you can do it!

    Cath x

That’s a wonderful loss Sam, well done – I’d be over the moon too. It’s always good to have something to aim for and the weeks will fly by.

I haven’t lost anything this week although I did buy some new scales that said I weighed 10st 8lb (I wish!) but they are obviously faulty.

Have a good weekend and good luck for your next weigh in. Linda

Thanx Cath & Linda you’ve been a great support to me for this.
I’m not expecting this kind of loss every time but even if I get 1lb a week off that will be nearly another stone for the wedding 🙂

Have a fab wkend ladies, and here’s to more success stories xx

    Hey Sam, well done.
Knew that if you stuck with this that you would have a good weigh in 🙂

    Thanx ghostgirl 🙂

Im definitely sticking with it – wasn’t even munching my usual junk at the wkend which shocked myself. Perhaps my head & heart are finally working together after so many uses of mistreating my body – YAY xx

Hi I have been reading all the posts as I needed some inspiration from the forum.

I have just started my 3rd week today. The first week I lost 2.5lbs and 2 nod weigh in today lost nothing, very disheartening as I have been really good.

My TDEE is 1860 and bmr is 1360 so on non fasting days have been eating around 1450 and I have been counting the calories. I also did 4 lots of exercise each week.

Has anybody any ideas to help me along

    Thanks

    Hi there

What day do u weigh in?
I found by weighing in on the Friday as I fast tue & thu I had a greater weight loss.
I also know that some people save their cals and wait until approx. 7pm to eat, whereas I cant so I eat a veggie dish, that I cook in the slow cooker – turnip carrots, parsnip, sprouts and cabbage and divide it into dishes which I have approx. 1pm then the same approx. 7pm. I then eat normally the rest of the week, tho at the moment my body is craving healthier foods & my stomach isn’t wanting as many cals.

I’m no expert, but i hope this helps 🙂

Well done Sam, really great that you perservered after an initial disappointment. I am also hoping to shed some weight for around the same time as the wedding you’re going to (going on holiday on 1 May!) hopefully we can keep each other motivated!

Many thanx 🙂 I was very downhearted but it was good in the end!

Are you also fasting tue & thu? The thought of getting my body bikini ready is good enough reason for this and just think if you drop even just 1lb a week before you go that’s a stone off!

Sorry Sam I’ve only just seen this message!

I usually do Mondays and either Wednesday or Thursdays to spread it out but I think this week I’ll be on Wednesday and Thursday as I’ve got a dinner out tonight. What about you?

How are you getting on at the moment? Have you found any more loss? In the first four weeks, I lost 8 pounds. I am trying not to weigh myself so obsessively anymore! Trying to resist temptation until 3 weeks time to see whether there’s been a significant loss between now and then!

    Hiya

    Apology not necessary 🙂
Well did u enjoy ur dinner?

I started 6th Jan and come 7th Feb id lost 10lbs so was well happy. I’m being a bit slack at the mo as was away over Valentines but am back on it this week. On my 2nd fast of the week today & so far so good but the truth will be in the scales tomorrow. I too am a tad obsessive re the scales but I like to see my progress and know if I’m good I can have a good wkend or if I’m bad know that I need to reign it in a bit x

    Hi Sam

Well done on your 10lb loss, that’s amazing.

Let me know how you get on with you next weigh in – wishing you the best of luck. I was like you before, I was obsessed with the scales, last month I was weighing myself every day and sometimes before and after the toilet, haha, maybe a bit far – but I have now stopped that, and my next weigh in will be on March 7.

I hope it is a significant amount in three weeks – I know what you mean about wanting to document yourself as you go along, but I think for my own sanity it was time to hide the scales until a few weeks away!

PS I did have an amazing dinner thanks – steak, dessert and delicious cocktails, fasted Tues & Thurs this week, and tried to be good in between!
