  • Good morning everyone.

I am 36 year old and currently weigh 11 stone 2. I have recently tried the slimming world diet and i lost a stone, however i found it hard to maintain. I felt my life revolved around thinking about food what to buy, what to make, what to eat and i felt it was exhausting.

I am getting married in April so would like to at least loose the stone i have put back on since stopping slimming world.

So i bought the book fast diet and here i am.

This is my first fast day and i am a bit concerned. Normally if i dont eat reguarly (i am a snacker) i become dizzy/shakey and angry loose concentration. So i am worried that due to these symptoms i wont manage the plan.

Can anyone help with tips. I am spreading my calorie intake between 2 meals.

Do diet fizzy drinks count as a 0 calorie drink?

    Thanks in advance.

    And good luck everyone.

Hi, Happy, and welcome to the Fasting way of life.
As for your snacking-so-you-don’t-get-shakey: is that a medical issue or a learned habit? Have you thought about that enough to analyze it? I know one woman who always talks about trying to avoid low blood sugar so she plans the times of her meals and snacks. Another woman says that at certain times of day she gets terribly hungry, as if she had a real problem, but if she ignores it it goes away. Which are you?
We eat two <300 calorie meals per day on Mondays and Thursdays. Breakfast is usually at 8 am, dinner is at 4:30 pm. [we’re retired, so we can do that] If you find that you have to have something in the middle of the day, eat an apple and deduct 100 calories from dinner.
I’m just against diet drinks and soda in general, and always have been. Have you tried sparkling water? We like it a lot.
Good luck, Happy. Keep us posted on your progress. Don’t forget to weight and measure yourself before you start so you can see your progress.

Hi, thank you for the reply.

Its not been medical i have had no diagnosis just something that always has happened.

I did not stick 100% to the 500 calories on Monday but i was not far off it as i had to have a banana to stop the dizziness as i drive a lot during work as i support people in the community.

I think i may have to spread my calorie intake throughout the day and not have 2 meals until i get used to it.

I am not keen on sparkling water but i dont mind still water.

By 9pm monday my head was pounding and i drank a fair amount of water but i just went to bed.

Next fast day is friday so i will look at smaller meals or low calorie snack to graze on instead of 2 meals.

@happyh81 how many “empty” carbs do you normally eat in a day? Unless you have a medical condition, it sounds like learnt sugar cravings. So maybe you should try to cut back on sugars on your NFDs as well in order to make the FDs easier? Pepsi Max and Coke Zero are so low in calories that you’d have to drink several gallons before it becomes worthwhile counting them. IMHO.

@bigviking I was thinking its down to the empty carb i eat on normal days. My diet has never been the healthiest. I know i eat too much empty carbs. And i am trying to eat a bit better during my NFD, but as i said this is my 1st week and i need to get to grips with the new way of eating.

So just to be clear pepsi max could be 0 calorie and not a no no? I dont drink a lot if carbonated juice but i do like to know if its an option on a fast day.
