  • Hello everyone, i am dead man walking. Weight 23.14stone .. 336 pounds … 152.4 kg

I suppose some people, will take a quick glance at my name and think thats a bit morbid
Well, believe me when your super morbid obese you feel like your close to death as everything is a struggle when your this size .

So as of today, 23 August 2016. I will lose said weight.

Step one, exercise, starting slow. Climbing my house stairs (13steps) gently walks to the park.
    Step two, eating healthy
Step three, start with one fast day a week, then move up to two fast days a week.

    Welcome,
Read the FAQ’s as there is loads of information there.
You cannot outrun your fork which means that you will have to address what you eat and how much as a priority. What do you mean by ‘eating healthily?’
I have no idea whether you enjoy to cook and prepare food, whether you snack constantly, are you a fizzy drink addict? If you tell us about yourself, what you normally eat/drink etc then I am sure that there will be lots of helpful suggestions/tips along the way.

I am fasting today. For me that means no breakfast, just a mug of tea. Lunch was 100g prawns with cherry tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce topped with homemade dressing(1 Tbsp olive oil with 1 tsp white wine vinegar and half a tsp of Dijon mustard-I make mine in a small jam jar with lid-give it a good shake and drizzle). Dinner will be a portion of salmon with a pile of peas and a knob of butter. What do you think about that?

Aim for protein and leaves on a FD(fast day). You will be fine, it just takes practice. Plan what you are going to have and buy it before the FD. Think about the other 5 days and what small changes that you can make there too, it all adds up.

Remember that this is a way of life rather than a diet. My rather overweight friend has changed how her meals look and is shrinking. She has meat or fish with vegetables or salad and now avoids pasta and rice. She feels well, eats tasty food, could maintain this forever and even does 2 FD a week when she had always maintained that would have been impossible for her!

    Any help?

Perhaps you could describe a typical days food intake? Ask 10 people what a healthy diet is and you’ll get 10 different answers. Eating healthy is portion size and the types of foods you eat. For me I gave up grain based foods, like bread, pasta and rice. Avoid starchy veggies like potatoes. No sugar!! No fruit juice. Limited whole fruits and mostly berry type fruits. Get the bulk of your carbs from veggies. Some protein like tuna and chicken. Fats and protein from almonds, walnuts, brazil nuts and avocadoes. Also fats from cheese and low sugar high fat yogurt.

Unless you are mindful on your non fast days its unlikely to work for you.

While fasting drink LOTS of water. Good luck.

    Success for you!

If you need something to ask, you have many people here with great knowledge!

NOTE: Do not like your name

I started the 5:2 today after reading the book. Any thoughts on doing a complete fast on the two days? In essence, water with lemon only and not having the 500calories?

    Hi Aimreich and welcome:

I have long recommended that everyone starting 5:2 strive to do two water fasts each week, instead of just eating fewer calories on their diet days. You will lose weight faster, because you will be cutting more calories out of your diet, and you will ‘learn’ more about your body and its reaction to food by not eating for those periods of time. Water fasts also simplify your diet days because you do not have to count calories.

All current research shows that to gain material ‘other health benefits’ from fasting a person needs to do periodic 4 or more day water fasts. Doing a couple a week is a good start to longer term water fasting. Longer term water fasts are not for every body, and are unnecessary for weight loss, but if you become interested in the subject, two water fasts a week are good ‘practice’.

    Good Luck!

    Hi Dead Man and welcome:

Congratulations on deciding to lose some weight!

If your goal is weight loss, may I suggest that your third priority be switched to your first? Focus on completing two successful diet days each week for at least a month. When you accomplish that feat, you will find you have ‘automatically’ started eating more healthy meals (however you define ‘healthy’). I know it sounds strange, but it is true. Then, after you have lost 30 or 40 pounds, you will magically feel like exercising. Then you can begin a rational exercise program that will help you feel even better.

Here are some tips that will help you get started: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

    Aimreich,

I do two 0 calorie fast days every week and a 5 day 0 calorie fast about once every 8 weeks. After you get used to it, the 2 days are no problem to complete at all, at least for me they aren’t. I still struggle with the 5 days but manage to make it all the way through them.

I don’t call mine water only fasts because I drink black coffee and green tea during the day, and then some ice cubes and water with 0 calorie flavored water enhancers, like Koolaid or something similar. I like to chew on the ice, gives me the satisfaction of eating something without any calories.

I wish you and Dead Man great success with your weight loss goals.

    Hi Aimreich,

I do water fasts but now only do 6:1 as Im in maintenance mode. Give it a go. Some can do it, others cant. There are benefits to be had. 5:2 is based on work where it was water fasting. Mosley changed it to 1/4 TDEE as he thought that’s what most people could cope with.

    Hi there,

I do cook, the problem i am having im social eating. I will eat, my own food, in a normal day. But eat out with friends. Eat another meal with my family or takeaway.

So breakfast, most days i love cookingJamie Oliver inspired egg omelette even grow my own herbs to add. Thats breakfast.
Pop down to my mums, before work. And there is mostly doughnuts Coke chocolate bars to pig out on. Most days im eating a largish bar. Or 2 normal bars from a multipack. Icecream. Its like feed the fat guy in the street. My next door neighbors are in there 90s and cant eat half what they buy. So there be a knock on the door and be hand half a pack of jam doughnuts. Shocking i know what i dont eat this food if it wasn’t for these people. Yes i do have the odd takeaway. But since this year started i have not bought one chocolate bar ect for myself. But still added 4stone in weight

Dinner, il make anything. From jacket potato sald vegetables fish or meat. Or add salad with it. Butter cheese also. , fish chicken vegetables. Chips sausage and beans, home made curry even make my home made bread.. Home made toad in the hole with potatoes vegetables ect. Then within hours im down mums again or out with friends eating another meal. Takeaway or home cooked.

My family are skinny they weight 12 to 13 stone. My problem is, where they are having one meal at dinner ect. Im having two. And takeaway is my weakness i do order it about 3 times a week.
large Domino’s Pizza garlic bread Ben and Jerry’s ice cream
    Chicken chips in a box,
    Chicken burgers chips.
    Chicken wraps.
    Curry

When my family goes on holiday, i do lose weight. As i stick to plain simple food as i have IBS i try and keep it plain clean and simple. its just the fact, that i eat my own food. And cant turn down all the food i am offered by others. Even if that means eating a whole meal again hours after eating a meal.

Wow DMW I commend your honesty but I have to ask were you serious when you said “So as of today, 23 August 2016. I will lose said weight.”?? Unless you are prepared to give up sugar and chocolates I personally think you will struggle to achieve your goal. So no chocolate, no icecream, no donuts, no potatoes, no pizza, no chips, no burgers etc.

You cant eat your meals and then go and start over again at your parents. You cant be accepting food from your little old neighbours etc.

Success doesn’t chase you, you have to chase success. Your call DMW, are you serious or not?

Hi there, i did try that. Went till 6pm then gave into my cravings of chicken and chips. But that in my eyes is a bloody good win.
My next fasts, i will just have a small salad to tie me over. But i am hoping to do a pure water fast each fasting days.

Best of luck with your journey

Sadly, sugar gives us the same chemical release as cocaine. Its gonna take a while to lose the cravings for these foods. But i am hoping of ditching them all together from my life and diet

Im bloody dead serious. I have now got a 30yr smokers cough. When i have never smoked a day in my life. Its that bad. I need to lose the weight as believe me having a cough, its weird i have no cold im coughing up phlegm. And now Need to eat small and slowly for fear of coughing and choking.

Im so dead serious. I am even thinking about moving away. My family are killing me. They dont even eat the rubbish but stock there cupboards ect with it. I never buy it myself (lol well lie i do crave the odd takeway thats true) but food has become one of those things. You have a meal out with friends ect. Go to the cinema you eat out. Eat at home, pop over to family and eat again. Food is all around us. And so easy to get your hands on and without thinking. Eat my way though a pack of biscuits without thinking.

Im dead serious, thinking about setting up a Instagram account posting all my meals ect, maybe be a good way to see each meal i eat.

Will move if i have too. They are skinny but there killing me. Most days, im eating not the smallish meals as it is Myself, then eating out with family and friends. Im eating enough for 3 people easily. Need to learn to say no. No to there junk food. And no to extra dinner they cook ect. Doesn’t help we all live in the same road.

    Hi dead man walking,
You sound really determined and i wish you all the very best. Have you tried to talk to your family, about how they are hurting you? I’m sure they love you and when they know how important this is for you and how serious you are they will change too.
In the meantime, here is a place full of wonderful people who are all doing the same as you. You couldn’t be in better hands
