  • Hi all, I’m Rob and I’m on my 3rd week of 5:2.

I lost 3lbs the first week and 2lbs the second week. I do my fast days on Monday and Thursday.

Just wanted to ask…the way I do it is to just drink water and no added sugar juice all day and then have my 600 calories at 8 or 9 PM. Is it ok to do that? Thanks

    Welcome Rob
Congratulations on your loss so far. That should give you encouragement to continue.
Have a trawl around this forum, you will find plenty of useful information about different approaches and their advantages.
Basically, a lot of people on here try to hold off having their calories until the evening as it prolongs the zero calorie (or almost zero, depending what your drinks contain) fast state. There is plenty of evidence that this helps but is not essential to be successful and many people on here don’t do it. FD for me today and it will be water and green tea until my evening meal.
Just remember, count the calories in that no-added-sugar juice and I would advise being mindful it contains natural sugars which aren’t significantly different to added sugar.

    Good luck.

Try not to have juice during the day. There is virtually no difference between sugar and juice with regards to insulin spikes. Hence drinking juice is undoing all your hard work of trying to last till 8pm as you will be spiking your insulin levels every time you have a juice. Some water with a slice of lemon, or coffee with no sugar would be better. Eating your 600 cals in one go is better than 300 + 300 which is better than 200 + 200 + 200. What you want to do is to keep your blood glucose levels as low as possible for as long as possible. Your insulin levels basically act as your body’s set weight point. Lower that and you lower the weight your body wants to be at.

Doing well!! Good luck with it.

Interesting stuff, think I’ll stick to water on fast days then. Thanks for the replies.
