  • Hi all! I am a 54 years old female and I started the fast diet about three weeks ago. I stayed on it for two weeks and then I fell off the wagon. I have had a hard time remaining within the 500 calorie limit. I tried again to complete a fast day this weekend and I was unsuccessful. I work in an office where food is around all the time. Can anyone suggest tips for making it through the fast days? Easy meals and snack tips are much appreciated. Thanks!

Im in an office where people are always bringing in cakes, biscuits, chocolates etc. They even tease me about it if they know its my fast day. It actually works for me rather than against me. Last Monday we celebrated a 50th birthday at a local café. I still went, drank water and talked while everyone else ate around me. If its my fast day I JUST DONT EAT anything. It really is that simple. No tricks involved.

    OK some things to try:

Every time you want to eat make yourself a hot beverage like tea of coffee. NO SUGAR in the drink. If you take sugar then get used to drinking coffee/tea without sugar!! Sugar will absolutely kill your effort for not wanting to eat. Did I mention SUGAR? Don’t have any. So that means no cakes, chocolate, biscuits, basically anything that comes in a processed box.

Have a big bottle of water next to your desk. Sparling water is good. Add a slice of lemon or a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to give it some zest. Every time you want to eat, take a couple of mouthfuls.

I chew gum like my life depends on it. It helps.

What are you eating for your 500 cals? Avoid SUGAR and simple carbs like bread, pasta, pizza, potatoes. Avoid anything that comes in a box, it will have sugar. Avoid anything that is grain based!! Avoid fruits, they have too much sugar content. Have protein like fish, tuna, tofu and lots of salad veggie type foods. Guaranteed, in all the posts on here you will not find anyone saying they blew their fast day and binged on salad all day. So that gives you a clue as to what to eat!!

Try not eating at all, some people actually find it easier rather than trying to stay under 500 cal. Im one of those people. Its actually easier for me to not eat anything rather than 500 cals. Eating one meal of 500 cal is better than spreading 167 cals over 3 meals.

Its hard for the first month. Get through that hump and it gets a lot easier after that.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the tips. You are probably right. I may be one of those people where it is just easier to starve than count calories. I also like your idea about drinking something hot. Coffee comes to mind and if not I can also try soup. I am psyched now to try it again. Have a great week!
