  • This is a wonderful discovery finding this official 5/2 diet site. I have been skeptical for a long time to the effectiveness but my sister bought the book(s) and has been doing her two day fasting for two months now she won’t weigh but goes by measurements and feel of clothes a number of them now needing replacing.
Neither of us are young late 60s to early 70s but very young at heart and looking to keeping good health into our sunset years.
I had my first fasting day yesterday and was genuinely surprised at how easy it was I will do Mondays and Thursdays so looking forward to next Monday day 2 of fasting.
I am enjoying exploring the site so much information and successes I will do my first weigh after next Monday
    Cheers

Welcome to 5:2, Wise. And wise you are! You will find that this way of life (WOL) is the most fantastic thing. I didn’t discover this website until I had obtained my goal weight, but I continue to contribute, and lurk, because of the great support, the wonderful people, and the amazing results that can be obtained from fasting, and from what can be learned from listening to the body and adjusting eating habits.

I am a Monday and Thursday faster as well, have been doing this for over two and a half years after watching the Eat, Fast and Live Longer programmme. I expect to continue with this regime for the rest of my days (may they be many and healthy!) This is a wonderful discovery, and should be promulgated widely, for the benefit of all those who are worried about their weight, who have a range of health issues from type 2 diabetes to those like me who are a little overweight but don’t see any alterative in their future to a chubby old age. Have you found Jason Fung yet? His blog, http://www.intensivedietarymanagement.com, is an eye-opener for anyone who has an interest in the field of obesity and its effects.

May I suggest that you check out the recent posts, follow a few threads, and join in with one or two that seem to offer the fellowship you are seeking.

Best of luck to your and your sister.

Wise, I have just checked your profile, and see you are another Kiwi!! 🙂 Great. Whereabouts are you? I’m in Wellington.

    Hi Barata
Thank you for all your supportive words and I will be checking out the sites you have suggested. I am In Christchurch earth quake territory I do believe the stress of this and vibe in the city has led to a lot of comfort eating hence finding myself a good
12 kg More than I should be so some work to do
    Cheers

Oh, Wise, poor Christchurch. How have you been affected by it all? We were there four years ago, catching up with friends, so much empty space everywhere. We lived there for four years in the eighties, before continuing our itinerant (shifty!) life – between Auckland and the US. 🙂

    Hi Barata
I guess seeing several friends loose their homes and my sister still waiting in the too hard basket with EQR to have their villa repaired has taken a bit of a toll, for us personally very fortunate most damage was cosmetic but I think the main affect has been the continuous shakes and jolts roaring through never knowing how big it will be.
Sounds like you are a traveller L.A. Las Vagus and San Francisco are the only places I have been in the States where abouts were you based.

    Hi Wise

We lived in Eastern Pennsylvania for four years when the children were school-aged, and in England for three – just the two of us doing our OE then. We have been back here for thirteen years.

It’s horrible that after five years people are still waiting for their claims to be assessed and settled. Our friends took a considerable loss after they found structural wall damage after the lining was removed from the walls, but they had already reached settlement and were too weary to fight further.

I have just checked http://www.canterburyquakelive.co.nz, and see that you are still being jolted, by large and small. You must be so over it all. And we live in Wellington, with all our fault-lines running through, waiting for our big one 🙁

There are very few Kiwis on this forum, but if anyone wanted to set up a challenge it might offer great support for the locals. When I joined it was still in the early days, and I was able to read back from the beginning of several threads that appealed. Now you would just have to take the plunge and introduce yourself. As you can see, there would be a great welcome and lots of support.

    Hi Barata
I have been exploring the site such interesting posts and lots of answers to my questions so haven’t needed to keep asking. Second fast completed successfully and I think I am taken a bit by surprise that I am already 2kg down I wonder if it is just water wieght next couple of fasts I guess will answer that did you experience a rapid loss initially has it slowed down I keep reading that about 1/2 a kg a week is about average even that will be a great bonus for me.
We also lived in Welington for ten years in Croften Downs I loved the city but yes knew there could be the big one any time there but hey you can’t let these events rule you except some what hard when we are constantly being reminded so yes sooo over it !!

Do you post with any other kiwis would be quite good to form a group
    Cheers
