  • Hi all!
Ive been reading up on this diet for quite some time now and after a few months of the weight creeping up i think its time to start!
So my main motivation for this diet is my first holiday abroad in quite sometime which is booked for the 3rd septemeber and this gives me just shy of 17 weeks to shift some weight!
Based on the success stories i see on here do people think its possible to lose around 1 stone in this time? I plan on going to the gym twice a week after being off for quite some time due to a hernia i feel ready to now get back in there =) just hoping i can stick to this and see some results as my hips and arms look miles to big for my body and really get me down! Hopefully a combination of the 5:2 diet and the gym may help..
    Good luck to all =)

    Hello,

I can’t help you too much as I weigh more than you. I am 5’2 as well, but started out at the start of March weighing 92.5kgs. In the last 9ish weeks I have lost about 9ish kilos, and since December have lost about 15kgs. I am doing alternate day fasting and just water fasting on fast days. Because you don’t have much to lose, I’d imagine the weight loss would be slower. You can mainly see my weight loss in my face and legs. My rings are feeling looser as well and I have gone down at least a dress size.

    Good luck!!!

    Well done!!
And i was thinking the weight loss may be slower but heres hoping i get down to my ideal weight or at least lose something in time for my holiday =)

Oh, thanks šŸ™‚ Still a ways to go, but glad I started the journey. I love the quote “a journey starts with a single step” and it is so true. Just keep yourself focused on the weight you want to be, and know that you will probably have some discomfort, but it will be worth it in the end! Happy fasting!

Hi! I’m 5’2″ American and 52 years of age. I started around August of last year at around 134 lbs. with a goal of reaching 120.00. I finally got there late April. I didn’t have too much weight to lose so maybe that’s why it took so long? That and holidays, vacations, etc.! In general, I eat pretty clean, no sugar/gluten. Now looking toward maintenance but it’s been difficult. On a maintenance thread here, I’ve seen people having success at alternating 6:1 and 5:2 every other week. May give that a try. There was a recent study on the Biggest Loser show and how the winners have all (except 1) put weight back on and how difficult maintenance is. I’m determined to win though! šŸ˜‰

    Hey!
I am 5’5″ , but I also weigh a bit more than you, 11st 1lb. So I also need to loose a stone, would ideally love to loose more.
I have made several attempts to start 5:2 but I somehow cannot seem to find the motivation and stay focussed on that.
Now I am determined to weigh a stone less than I do now around August or September this year.
I’d love to have some Buddies to help me during the fast days.
I also love to read about other people’s success! šŸ™‚

    Bes wishes,
    Anna

ETJ i also love that quote and have a tattoo of said quote lol!
Feeling really motivated today to start 5:2 on monday even purchased a size 10 bikini for my holidays to give me the accentive to do this! Im currently a uk size 12/14 really would love to be back in to a size 10 in time for september just a little disheartening to think its taken people with not a lot to lose a longer time to actually lose the weight really hope i see some loss after a few weeks as i know this would motivate me to keep going!
Irishanna ill be your buddy! As we both want to lose weight for the same time would be nice to have someone doing this with me lol =)

    Kim and Anna,

Cut out refined carbs like bread, pasta, rice, potatoes etc. Cut out added sugars, harder said than done. If the food comes in a box read the label real close. More than 10% sugar content throw it in the bin. Avoid sugar at all costs.

Avoid refined carbs on your fast days. Stick to lots of bulky green veggies, and some protein like fish and chicken. Don’t be scared of fats. My breakfast consists of a high fat low sugar yogurt with a handful of raspberries and raw almonds. This will keep you going for hours.

Have ONLY whole fruits, never juice or dried fruit. And have fruits in moderation and choose the berry type fruits. I’ll sound like a puritan but cut back or eliminate alcohol if your goal is to lose weight. 7 calories per gram of alcohol and its just empty calories with no dietary goodness at all.

Thank you so much bigbooty for your help! šŸ™‚
I thought when I am doing 5:2 it would be possible to really be strict to myself onl on two days a week. Well I know I have to watch out and not overeat on the non-fast days.
But I guess if I really want to see some results I will have to watch out for what I eat every day.
Maybe that is why it has not worked out on my former attempts.

Kimberleyh, so we will have our first fast day tomorrow? šŸ™‚
I am looking forward to it as I am so keen on seeing some results as the days start getting warmer and the clothes are getting shorter šŸ˜‰

I wish you a nice Sunday, and happy Mother’s Day to all the mums out there šŸ™‚

Carbs and sugar are my biggest downfall. i love pasta and eat bowl after bowl of it and also chocolate, every morning (and sometimes during the night) i wake up and crave sugar, bars of chocolate etc. i started to think this might be a problem and seen my doctor about it had a blood test done to check everything was fine and it was so i guess its just my sweet tooth coming in to play! Lol. Just wondering what fruits i can allow myself? I love all fruit and think im doing my body a favour by eating it but then again i guess its that sweet tooth coming in to play..
Irishanna yes we will start tommorow and hopefully both stick to it and motivate eachother =) i also need to hang the bikini on the fridge to stop me snacking lol!
Also, can anybody tell me if going the gym twice a week and walking the dog daily will help out with my 5:2 =)? Desperate to lose a bit of weight off my hips and arms.

Thank you for all the ladies on this post. Great information and motivation. It is wonderful to finally read posts where ladies are 5 feet 2 inches tall and working toward their weight loss goals.

I’m an American from Ohio looking to lose about 8 pounds. I’m 5.2, 48 years old and 123.5 lbs.

I first saw The Fast Diet about three years ago on TV. I quickly purchased his first book, read the book, thought about the plan but never implemented the plan. Saw a recent airing on the Dr. OZ show which prompted me to get his recent book and read up on the diet/plan again. Trying to also get my husband to participate with me so it is easier on the “fast days”.

I plan to start my “fast day” tomorrow (Monday) and on Thursdays of each week. My challenge is cooking for the family on most days of the week. Any suggestions on those days to stay motivated and on my plan? It is very easy to eat when you have kids who constantly keep their mom in the kitchen!

Continue success to all and I look forward to all your posts, updates and tips as I start The Fast Diet!

    Welcome carmela04!

Ladies, how are your fast days going?:)
It’s 1.45 pm now and I just had an Apple because I was really hungry. I will be coming home from university at 5pm and I’m planning on having my meal then, although I’m not sure whether it will be eggs, porridge or a big portion of broccoli. I’m keeping my stomach full by drinking a lot of water, and I also keep myself busy all day.

How is your day going by?:)

Kimberleyh, exercise is always good for you, but losing weight is 90-95% diet. The exercise tones your body and is a great distraction from NOT eating, but you would have to make exercise a full time job for it to burn off what you need. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend The Obesity Code for an explanation of how we lose fat (and why non sugar sweeteners are no help).

By the way, I too am a short one (age 60). About 5’1″. I started on March 9 at about 1301-31. I weighed in this morning at 122.8 and nothing is tight anymore. My goal is 118.

    Hi all!
Just checking in on my first day done quite well calorie wise:
2 cups of tea full fat milk 1 sugar (quite indulgent i know lol)

1 tin of tuna in spring water drained

Homemade tomato, red pepper, mushroom and garlic soup

    1 half moon size watermelon

Really hope i havent gone over 500 calories as today is my first fast day =)
Irishanna hope your first day is going well =)

    Fellow short people! Hello!

Iā€™m a 24 years old, 5ā€² 0ā€³ and 152 lbs. So that is… 10 stone 12 lb? If my math is right haha. I started 5:2 three weeks ago at 155 lbs (about a pound a week, I’m pumped) and in a perfect world I’ve love to get back down to 9 stone. However, Iā€™m much more concerned with the health and longevity aspects of 5:2, specifically when it comes to digestion and Alzheimer’s risk reduction (family history). Weight loss will just be a plus.

Fasting today, and not gonna lie: I’m SO hungry. Ugh. Distract me!

    Hey everybody!

My fast day went quite well, although in the end it did not go as I had planned.
I had my first food at around 1pm, which was an apple. Plus 2 litres of water all morning.

In the afternoon my bus was delayed and I was 20 minutes late which meant I had 5 minutes to eat something before a work meeting. As I was starving I couldn’t wait until getting home from the meeting, so I had some leftover pasta bake. Not ideal, I know, but as I only had half a plate and only the apple with around 90 calories before, I also hope not to have gone over 500 kcal today.

Was feeling hungry inbetween and also a little tired, but I’m happy I made it šŸ™‚

Was thinking to go with two real fast days a week and maybe one “light fast day” with 1000 kcal a week. Let’s see how it works!

Hope you are doing good šŸ™‚

Alright so I’m working my way to fasting until dinner time, but I just couldn’t get there today. It’s 2:45pm and I just made some rolled oats with almonds. I feel so much better! Smaller dinner tonight but I was cracking.

    Hi all!
Just checking in on day two. today is a no fast day and ive been limited excercise wise due to long hours at work so i may have spoilt myself a bit today. Anyway todays food:

Go ahead yogurt bar 2 slices
Cup of tea 2 sugars and milk
Ham cheese and tomato omlette with coleslaw and salad ( only eat just over half of the omlette but all of the coleslaw)
    Bottle of diet coke
Hot chocolate with sugar and milk
    Tin of mediteranian tomato soup

And about 35 minutes walk from the trainstation to home.

Feeling quite guilty as although im 69 calories off the full 1200 (tracking with mfp) some of the things have been quite fatty and sugary =(.
Hope i havent spoilt myself too much!

    Fasting day 2 tommorow!

Hope everyone is getting on fine =)

    Greetings to the Vertically Challenged!

I did not fast well yesterday but life goes on. Still bouncing around 122 – 124. My short term goal is 120 by Memorial Day weekend (May 28-30 for you non-Yanks), but I won’t get there is THIS rate.

On the plus side, my bras are definitely getting loose! This morning I had a fried egg on a small tortilla with yogurt lime cilantro dressing (from last night’s swordfish tacos). Lunch was homemade coleslaw and Japanese pickled radishes. Some morning and afternoon nuts…not too many.

Dinner will be a Spanish tortilla and a salad. See you all on the other side!

    Good morning!

My fast on Monday went really well and I’m down another 1.2 lbs. I got a deep tissue massage last night and I swear that just makes me feel lighter haha.

Kimberleyh- is 1200 cal your TDEE? That’s lower than how many calories I would eat a day if I was restricting calories every day to lose weight without fasting… just curious.

Kimberleyh, abitunGraceful raises a good question. MFP may have you at 1200 a day, but your TDEE on 5:2 is probably higher.

At 5′ 1″ and 121.9, my TDEE is 1459. MFP also has me at 1200 a day, but I use that loosely.

    Hi all!
Today is a fasting day and id like to have saved my 500 for dinner but im down with a cold at the moment and felt very low on energy this morning so i had 30g of special k cereal and 125ml of semi skimmed milk followed by a handful of grapes gave me the energy for my hour walk!i have just checked and my calorie intake for non fasting days is working out at around 1600 thanks for the tip!

Hope everyone is doing fine =)

hi everyone i had my first fast day on Monday this week- and felt fantastic afterwards.

I’m jumping back in for a second fast day today (Wednesday). I was planning on Monday and Thursday but i was disappointed that i overeat my yesterday, Tuesday. So i’m jumping back in to see if i can find that energy / enthusiasm for eating less again.

I have not yet weighed myself. i think i’m about 15lbs overweight. I’ve always been an emotional eater.

I’m looking to drop 1-2 dress sizes.

I had a lot of brain fog on my first day and didn’t get much work done. I’m hoping that over about 6 weeks i can figure out how to work and fast at the same time.

Some people seem to like to eat something early in the day – for brain clarity. but i prefer to save my calories for later.

I’ve decided not to weight train when i’m fasting, tho i will try to walk 10,000 steps.

Good luck to everyone. I’m so excited to be starting this.

Totally spoilt myself today by having a tin of tuna followed by a punnet of grapes!!
Today was a fasting day and ive worked out im about 200 calories over the 500 ive had a 50 minute walk but i feel as if i have just spoilt myself

Feeling really disapointed in myself =(

Kimberleyh, nothing is spoiled at all. You can have a lovely dinner for 300 calories and then GET THE HECK OUT OF YOUR KITCHEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think they meant they had 200 more than the 500 limit, not 200 total.

And don’t get yourself down about it. I’ve done that too. To me, there seem to be two options, both of which are totally acceptable.

    1) Just try to maintain your fast for the rest of the day, acting as if you’ve met the 500 cal mark and just consider it a practice fast day and you’ll have something to improve on the next one.
    2) Continue eating normally for the rest of the day and just move your fast day to tomorrow.

I think both are completely acceptable, especially at the beginning. I did the first one on my second week of fasting. The important thing is to not take it to heart and just keep moving forward! You won’t be able to master this way of eating right off the bat… Like anything worth sticking with, it takes practice. šŸ™‚

    Ooops. Read too quickly.

Worked out i went 95 calories over 500 yesterday so i may have over reacted when i thought it was 200! Anyway today is a non fast day and so far i have had 2 slices of grilled bacon with tomato.
    Hope everyone is doing fine!

Today is a FD for me. Sipping hot water at my desk, because I have my annual physical in an hour. After that I will have COFFEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Kimberleyh, looks like you are doing really good so far!

I didn’t have another fast day for this week yet, I think I will make tomorrow one.
Right now I am trying out whether I should have breakfast or not on a fast day. Yesterday and today were non-fast days, but I tried to have a really small breakfast and a really small lunch, to see how far I can get with 500 kcal when I start eating in the morning. I think it doesn’t work out too good for me, although when I am not eating in the morning I kind of have the feeling of not really waking up, starting the day tired and remaining tired all day (I’m unfortunately not the coffee person, except for coffee with milk and sugar, not a good idea on a fast day).
I am invited to my sister’s birthdy tonight so I know I am not going to stay on the 500kcal today. But Birthdays are days that I don’t want to restrict myself from. I am using those non-fast days for experimenting.

And a small thing I’ve achieved is: Normally before a birthday party I would have had a normal breakfast and a normal lunch (coming in at around 1000 kcal in total) and would still have had my piece of cake and lots of bread with butter and so on. Whereas now I might not even be overeating today because I did not even eat 500kcal so far.
One thing I’ve already learned through 5:2 is that hunger is not a bad thing and it is okay to feel hungry from time to time.

Hope you are staying strong today, K-Lo!

Irish…I just want my coffee. Cooling my heels in a purple paper gown waiting for the doctor

Today is my FAST DAY. Monday and Thursdays. I made lunch plans with friends at 1:00 pm today. A reminder for me not to plan them on FAST DAYs. So I plan to sip on tea and clear broth soup.

I’m behind with my breakfast this morning. It is 9:40 EST in the United States. So making egg whites with green and red peppers. Won’t get to the 12 hour fast interval but maybe 10 hours. šŸ™‚

Question. I drink almond milk unsweetened with my coffee each morning when I get up both on FAST DAYS and NON-FAST DAYS. This is before I eat breakfast. Then I workout at home or the gym followed by my breakfast.

Do you think that is ok to do on a FAST DAYS? It is 30 calories per cup.

    Thank you.
    C

Started the 5:2 Monday and it’s going pretty well. I’m not having as much trouble as I thought I would. I decided to use the fast days as Mondays and Wednesdays. My worry is the weekend as this is usually where I run into trouble. I’m going to do my best to stick to my 1200 calories!!

    Second FD yesterday, Wednesday.

I work from home and felt pretty low energy on my first FD.

Yesterday i set a timer and worked for 30 minutes and then walked on treadmill for 5 minutes all through the day. It helped give me better energy and less brain fog. So it’s a great adjunct to drinking tons of water through the day.

it also helped me reach my goal of 10,000 steps per day (with a FITBIT)

i felt really well and full of energy when i woke up this morning after the FD.

my challenge today is to eat reasonably, not to overeat tonight – as i did on the day following my first FD.
I don’t want to wipe out the good work i did yesterday.

i’m hoping to change my relationship to food / eating over the long term doing the Fast Diet. On days when i’m fasting i have much less interest in food!

    have a great day everyone

    Hi all!
Hope everyone is doing well =)
Next fasting day will be monday and yesterday i had

Special k cereal for breakfast with semi skimmed milk

2 egg omlette with half can of chopped tomatoes

Weight watchers chicken bake ready meal with tomatoes and one kingsmill 50/50 thin (1 1/2 of the thin)

Today iam not so sure if ill stick fully as im taking my little one out for the day and there will be ice cream involved lol!

As i went over my calories on wednesday and may fall off the wagon a bit today should i get weighed on monday or will it be a dissapointing result?

Hi I’m 5ft 2, 52 and weight 72kg starting 5.2 tomorrow and looking for inspiration. I’m hoping to do Monday and Wednesday as my fast days. I’m also aiming to walk 10000 steps everyday. I love reading how everyone’s getting on. I’ll let you know how tomorrow goes.

HI Debar! Happy you could join us. Let us know how your first day goes.

I have been on the 5:2 for one week tomorrow. Monday and Thursdays are my FAST days. I did well my first week but had a mini binge on Friday night. Wafer Cookies were calling my name! Plus got kids who also snack the entire day and keep mama in the kitchen.

I will weigh in tomorrow morning. I’m 5.2 as well.

Have a great day tomorrow and looking forward to your post.

    šŸ™‚

Monday morning here in the US. Down 2.6 pounds for my first week. Today is my FD along with Thursday . Had a tough weekend with sweets. Cravings. Very surprised I lost 2.6 but I will take it. Hoping I don’t blow it and eat as my “reward”.

Wishing you all a good FD week. Keeping on going. Don’t give up. If you “cheat” don’t sweat it. Move forward. It will happen.

    c

    Hi first day went well
    Apple for breakfast
    Fruit salad this afternoon
Chicken breast & stir fry veg

577 a little over but not bad for first day I’ve found it easier than I thought.

7000 steps bit disappointed but I suppose its twice a much as normal.
    See you tomorrow

Debar you did great! Happy it went well for your first day.

I’m looking forward to my dinner in 5 hours. It is 4:24 pm EST. Starting my second week today.

    7000 is fantastic!

Hello, hope you don’t mind me joining your thread!

Just re-started the 5:2 at the beginning May after a 2 year hiatus!
I’m also 5’2″ and currently 11st 1lb (I’ve lost 2lb, a lb per week since I’ve been on the diet). I aim to get to 9.7 before my 40th in October but my immediate goal in to be a loose size 12 before 29th July when I go on a well earned girly break with my friends.

The diet does work but for me it’s all in my head. I got married in Aug last year but strangely I couldn’t get my head around doing the 5:2 so I started running, I still run but like someone has said in this thread weight loss is driven by diet so much more than exercise. This time last year I was running 100k a month, and whilst I toned up and felt great with exercise, the scales did not shift! I started slimming world about 8 weeks before the wedding to lose some weight and thankfully I managed to get to 10.8. I maintained that until Christmas and then boom! It’s crept back on.

Then a few weeks back my friend messaged to say 14 weeks until our trip Marbella, this coupled with having to go back into my size 14s (and the majority of my friends being size 8/10!) was the push for that little voice in my head to say ‘do it’.

This is my 3rd week of fasting (will do Monday and Thursday’s) and feeling great, trying to stick to the 500 but have been slightly over – especially on a Monday when I work away and stay in a hotel. The only downside at the moment is not being able to get to sleep, hence posting this message after midnight. I think it’s lack of sleep inducing red wine, coupled with being in a hotel?

Anyway, wishing you all the best on your 5:2 journeys, I look forward to hearing how you’re getting on a keeping each other motivated!

Just checking in. Doing good. Down 3.1 pounds in 11 days. I’m 5.2″ and 48 years old. Today is my FD. Looking forward to dinner in an hour.

I find it hard to fast for 12 hours from breakfast to dinner. So I do my best and maybe I reach 8 hours. Sometimes a small bite of a snack to hold me over. Fish and salad for dinner today with a low calorie salad dressing.

Wishing you all the best for this weekend and keep up the great work!

Hi everyone! I’ve been MIA for the week because 1) I was out of state at a conference and 2) my mom’s been in the hospital so there’s just been a lot going on.

I made the choice not to fast this week, but my plan is to start again next week. I also haven’t exercised since Monday… woof. Gonna get back to that bright and early tomorrow though… and have a couple days of exercise and normal eating under my belt before fasting again on Monday.

I hope everyone is doing well!

It’s Monday morning and I’m back to fasting! I feel crazy bloated from a almost a week without exercise, a weekend of drinking, AND I’m getting my period. I’m really hoping I can reset this week and get back into the swing of things.

My weekend went fairly well. Always hard when family home. I ate more then I would on the FD plan. Today is my fast day. Hope for some weight loss (even if it is .2 lbs) when I weight myself on Wednesday morning before going out of town to visit family.

Will check-in when I get back home on 5/29.

Best wishes to all and have a great week!

Happy fast day carmela! So far today I’ve had matcha with 2 tbsp whole milk, black coffee, and 50 oz water. I just finished my lunch time workout, and it was out in the direct sun, so I’m going to make some broth for lunch to make sure I keep my salt in check after sweating so much.

So far, so good. Started getting hungry around 11, but I went and worked out and it eliminated the hunger pangs.

Fantastic day to start abitunGranceful! Great idea to workout to eliminated the hunger pangs. Hate when they come. Like many I try to keep myself busy and avoid the snacking especially when you are home. How long have you been doing the 5:2 plan?
I’m starting my three week today. I live in the US. I’m a stay-at-home mom.

I kind of lost track because I started on a Thursday and then took a couple FDs off… but I’m thinking of this is as “week 3” as well for me since I know I solidly did I 4 fast days. I like that it doesn’t feel like I “failed” or anything…. just took a break from this way of eating and now I’m starting again.

I also live in the US. I am a chemist at a biotech company in MA. I’m only 24… so no kids for me.

abitunGraceful nice to meet you online. I use to live in Boston. Loved living there. We now live in Columbus, Ohio. I agree. I do like that this plan doesn’t put pressure to be 100 GOOD!

Nice to meet you as well! Yeah I love Boston… I grew up on the South Shore and now I’m in Cambridge and it’s great. Especially now the weather is getting nicer, there’s so many people out and about and things to do.

So I’m SO hungry right now haha. I can probably leave work in about an hour or so, and I am just staring at the clock counting down until I can go eat my dinner. I’m planning a noodle bowl with shirataki noodles, mushrooms, and hard boiled egg.
