  • Hello Fasters,

SO, ive finally decided to start the 5:2. Im a Mum of two, just hit my 40’s, in pretty okish shape.. but the weight has slowly crept on over the last 5 or 6 years and I can see a pattern emerging that needs to be dealt with now.

I love cooking, eating, thinking about food and what to cook – Ive forgotten what it feels like to feel hungry most of the time and eat out of many other reasons other than real need. SO i am looking forward to two days of NOT thinking about food as I think it will be a good thing for me not to focus on food….

For me the main motivator is health and weight loss is secondary and a welcome bonus – In an ideal world I would like to lose 2 stone – i have no real timescale as I have already read a lot here in the forums / results about various weight loss levels… and to not expect anything drastic. I dont want to feel disappointed and unmotivated.

Im no stranger to diets / fasts / juice fasts / paleo / recipe box diets / appetite suppressant tablets… etc. I am always convinced by a new fad and like many, find it doesnt work or isnt sustainable and the pounds go back on… I really hope this could be the way forward on the 5:2

I also am guilty of bad portion control – and tend to eat my kids leftovers! 🙁 So all these bad habits have to stop… This will be a real challenge on my Fast Days.

Planning on Monday and Thursdays as Fast Days – so tomorrow is my first day…

Looking forward to connecting with anyone who wants to share the journey – positive / negatives and anything inbetween….

Hi I started the diet back in November and was really happy with the results I lost 13lb really easy and them it all went a bit awry over Christmas and haven’t really got back on track.🙄😒. I did Monday’s and Thursday’s too. I am going to start again tomorrow so would love someone to share the journey with too.

Hi, Im restarting tomorrow too! Well tonite infact, last ate at 8.30pm. This year i have been failing miserably to starting!
Anyway..good luck to both of us! 🙂

Good luck to us all. Definitely now will start again tomorrow. Let me know how you get on tomorrow. 😊

I will do, have a good day 🙂

Yay – good luck to you both. Starting the day with hot water and lemon as i cant really drink my tea or coffee black… hope first day is good to us!

I think I will start with hot lemon with small honey, good luck everyone Happy first day! 🙂

    Hi baby_depardieu

Reading your intro sounded like listening to myself. I started back in January and am doing ok (apart from the odd holiday and confirmation celebration last week). I am losing about 1lb a week or just under but I am feeling great. I am learning what hunger is – and that is having an excellent effect on my portion control.

I fast on Mondays and Wednesdays (but am a little flexible on days depending on work/social plans) and these past few weeks only drink water and black coffee on my fasting days.

    I’d love to join you.

Hi SP13, thanks for your message – it sounds like you are having a great result and its really encouraging to hear that you are re-thinking portion control! Im really hoping to be less heavy handed with my food on the normal days as my body adjusts.

    Look forward to sharing posts

    🙂

Hi hope your day has been going well, mine has been ok. Cup of Tea this morning an apple, a cuppasoup and a chinese ready meal. Total intake today has been 504. 😊.

Well done!I’ve had 640 cals…better than my last attempt I’m pleased to say. I’ve had a tsp honey,tangerine,3 strawbs, 2 chicken drumsticks and a cuppa soup..the drumsticks weren’t planned 🙁

I had my first fast day today and it went a lot better than expected. I have similar habits to you with portion control and snacking or picking. I found having a hot drink at breakfast time, breakfast for lunch and then lunch around early evening meant I wasn’t left too hungry.

My fast days are also the same as yours with Monday and Thursday as I know on those days I finish work later and will be busy (less time to think about food).

I had 0% fat free yoghurt with some berries and chia seeds and then chilli with no carbs for my second meal. I got the recipe off of BBC good food which is handy as low in calories but also suitable for family dinners.

I hope today went well! Good luck with your journey 🙂

Wow we all did good today. We should be pleased with ourselves. 640 is great, if you normally eat around 1800/2000 cals then that’s only a third of a normal days intake. Well done. Its tomorrow that I need be ok. Portion control and picking are really bad for me. 😩

    Hello,

I just heard about this diet and tried fasting for the first time today. So far I have stayed around 500 calories. I am a night eater and I go for the sweets. Any support from people who struggle with the same thing is welcome. Any tips for a first timer would be great.

Good Morning everyone 🙂 Feeling fab that I’ve almost completed my first 36 hr fast this year on 640 cals 🙂 🙂
My fast is due to end at 8.30 but I am out until midday, so won’t eat until then. I plan to take it easy today and fast again tomorrow or Monday. Had a great nights sleep which is definitely unusual for fast days as it has taken me hours to fall asleep in the past. Have a great day 🙂

    Hi Callie,

Try swapping the 0% fat yogurt for high fat low sugar yogurt. 0% fat usually means high sugar content. Look at the packet, what is the sugar content? 10%, 12% or 15%?

    Mazz,

Hmm eating sweets at night, well anytime really is going to make your task hard. My advice, go cold turkey with the sweets. It will be tough for 4 weeks but it will give you the best chance for success.

    Great news sandycheeks well done.😊

Sounds like you all had a great first fast day. My went well. Did start to feel hungry around lunchtime, but I wanted to try and go all day and have the calories all in one meal at dinner – i think I was wanting to get my body to remember what its like to actually feel real hunger!! lol… something its doesnt do usually.

I managed it – although I did have to have a small apple as a snack late morning and then I had the Tuna Fagioli from the Fast Diet Cookbook which seemed like a massive plate of food.

Drank lots of herbal teas too.

The parts that were hard and where I will always find my willpower tested is when I have to cook for my kids (age 11 and 9) so they eat around 5pmish and thats the time I can end up grabbing snacks etc – I was feel quite hungry at this point and had a small (10) amount of nuts to stop me picking at theirs.

So, i did pretty much have 500 calories and the following day definitely didnt feel the need to overeat – although I didnt watch what I was having too much.

I am using an app to calorie count at the moment, even on non-fast days as I think I was going way over my daily intake amount, so i think this will help with the fast days.

My next Fast Day is now Tuesday with it being bank holiday Monday

Hope you are all doing super well …. 🙂

Hi Mazz – just re-read your post about eating at night and meant to reply in my other update just now… I find that I always want a bit of something to eat at night time if I am watching TV or something like that… but im starting to recognise that its never out of hunger – its habit eating / boredom eating…. I am going to try having an apple instead… Doesnt that sound boring! hahaha but with the sweetness, it might be a good sub for sweets… and help maybe with initial cravings? Eating the whole apple with skin is better – and i did read somewhere that eating an apple before bed is a really good way to help stabilize sugar cravings… For me, its more about breaking the patterns I have got into with eating for the sake of eating…. I hope this helps.. Hope you are doing well xx
