  • Hi everyone. I’ve been doing this since mid-March this year and so far, I have ‘not broken the chain’ meaning that I have successfully stuck to the 500 calories on my fast days. My problem lately has been the day(s) afterward when I celebrate being good but being ‘over the top’ with my eating. It wasn’t like that to begin with, but it’s more like that now.

I’ve been told by my sister to calm down (she’s been doing it for heaps longer) but I think I’m harking back to that obsessive behaviour that comes with being somewhat perfectionist.

Any hints about this, apart from telling myself to calm down, that it’s a lifestyle not a life sentence, keeping busy, and trying to do the fast days during the working week which is the easiest way for me.

I’ve also found that the initial ‘weight loss’ is yo-yo-ing although I’m fairly certain that the loss is occurring where my natural fat deposits are.

    Hi Anita,
Congratulations on your journey so far.

I would suggest a few little rules for yourself on the non fast days. I do this when I find I am overeating. I let myself have a day a week when I eat what I feel like (and try to be really mindful about what I truly feel like eating). And then on other days I do things such as 1. No snacks 2. no food after 8:30 pm 3. Wait at least three hours between eating. Eat the meal prepared and then wait 3 hours before eating anything else. 4. Concentrate on a good portion size, and then don’t have any more.

I don’t do all these at the same time, I try to analyse where I am going off the rails and concentrate on that. Mindfulness is important all the way along!

I hope you can find some small rules to put in place that help you eat better, but don’t make you feel like you are punishing yourself.
