Hi all, I have done my intro on another post but wondering if anyone is from NZ so we can figure out some of these great food suggestions.

Yup! Was living in Auckland before I left on my OE, now in Madrid until around March 🙂 Hi everyone!!
How did you all hear about 5:2? I read it in one if the newspaper’s weekend magazine (Metro? I forget the name) during Summer, and then my mum suggested it last Monday, which became my first fast day 🙂
I’m on my 3 day tomorrow, 2nd week lost 1 kg and am delighted. Will see how things go as last week I did 2 in a row, this week doing Tuesday & Thursday – as the fastings are actually longer 36 hours each instead of 60 hours that’s a difference of 12 hours.. Plus I think it will be easier to do it intermittently rather than 2 in a row.

Good luck to you all in this exciting venture.
Hey Merlo, I’m not far from you 🙂 I just started last Wednesday, have now done two fasts and have lost 2.5 inches off my waist so far 🙂 don’t worry about the scales too much, take your measurements from the start as this is where you’ll see the biggest changes to start with. My clothes are already feeling a bit looser. Also drink heaps of water on fast days to stave off hunger. Enjoy!
Money penny – I’m getting pretty quick results. It’s like it reboots your system and you only feel like you’re dieting two days a week. The rest of the time you can eat what you like but, I haven’t been on it a week yet and things are changing. I’ve lost 2.5 inches off my waist, an inch off my bust and neck each, and my clothes are looser. I’ve also lost 1.7kg! More than that, my tastes are changing. Though I can have what I like, I don’t find I’m enjoying my usual ‘treats’ nearly so much and my tastes are naturally changing towards the healthier. If I have a treat, I don’t feel guilty as I’m still losing weight and always have another fast day soon to help. im also getting full a lot quicker and feel exhausted if i have sugary food, which is odd. And it’s awesome not having to count points or calories every day, or weigh everything! Nuff motivation for you? 🙂
Kirsty – they give them to you as you walk in the door. At least, they do at the one in Te Awa, Hamilton. Think they’re only going to the end of October though. If you’re very strapped though, all you need to do is eat 500 cals on two days a week, how you do it is up to you. I have breakfast around 7am (2 poached eggs, 25g of ham) and dinner at 7pm (200g of fish, big bunch of asparagus and 100g of blueberries). You can use online calorie counters to work it out, and drink lots of water on fast days (usually Monday and Thursday are easiest so you can enjoy your weekend but up to you). I find my hunger peaks at 2pm then it’ dies down totally, so I find it easy to last the afternoon. That’s all there really is to it, the rest of the book is mainly the interesting science behind it, but you don’t need to know it to do the diet. Best of luck! This is the first one I’ve felt I could actually do long term 🙂
Wow, it’s great there are so many kiwis jumping in! Danny38 I split the fast days- Monday and Thursday but I think the important thing is to. Do what works best for you and see how you progress.
Lots if new starters here, great to be hearing positive results so quickly! Long may it continue. It was my third day yesterday, and my planned first weight and measurement update is on Monday.
Happy slimming everyone 🙂
Hi Kirsty – I’m from Auckland. Just started last week. Did my day 2 fast today. Wasn’t as bad as I thought. Was hungry this afternoon but still had energy. My tummy was rumbling but kept thinking about the chicken salad I had waiting at home so that kept me going. I’m doing measurements on Saturday. My goal is to lose 5 cm off my stomach by November 10. I want to feel good when I go on holiday to Fiji 🙂 I’m not going to worry so much about the scales just my measurements and how I fit my clothes. I just ordered my copy of the book online hope it arrives this week 🙂
Any other suggestions for dinners, we had fish last night, and are going to fast again tomorrow, so looking for something different. Have found not many recipes in the book easy to do from our pantry and suitable for the family. (Or easily adaptable for kids, if that all makes sense!?) 🙂
Also I got my book from the warehouse for $23.
Good luck.
Hi ajandde, I’ve chosen to just have one meal at night and have been easily satisfied by a two egg mushroom and spinach omelette/frittata much like one pictured for men’s breakfast but I add onion, fresh herbs and tomatoes. With that I’ll have about 500grams of steamed vegetables and 100grams of grilled salmon, again with fresh herbs. Well under 600cals the way I do it.
The kids are always wanting to eat my frittata and you could jazz it up for them with a bit of cheese and or bacon and some cheese sauce on the veges will make them less bland for them.
Good luck.

Ajandde – try grilled chicken with herbs and/or spices. With lots of veggies. Maybe a stir fry with some soy sauce? Or try prawns instead. Fruit for dessert. I use frozen chopped veg for my stir fry, much less hassle (my two are 3 1/2 and 1). You can also add vermicelli noodles for the kids, depending on their age. Good luck, it’s my third fast day tomorrow 🙂
8am on my fourth fast day!! Definitely getting easy to eat less. I got home from a run last night to find a McPollo (Mchicken) and small fries waiting for me. Fries are such a treat for me so I never thought there would ever come a time I threw some out , but I just didn’t want to finish them, so didn’t.
Haven’t strictly planned my eating today so I need to do that. It is nice to know that the newish Whitakers milk choc and raspberry bar that my boyfriend sent me will survive another day unopened (wow!)!
If I were in Welly I would totally be keen to meet up. I’m not though so can’t 🙁
All the best to everyone finishing fast days – stick to the plan, tomorrow is not far away!
