  • Hi! Anyone want to join me? I have read the book, finished up the Easter chocolate, and am full of good intentions! I am planning to start my first fast day tomorrow. Would love some company to share the journey with.

HI, I started last week and am on my 4th fast day, finding the fast days are getting easier and also found if I don’t eat till about 7pm at all I don’t feel as hungry than if I had breakfast that morning. I lost a pound in my first week and have lost almost an inch of my middle (though to be fair when I measured I had just pigged out lol) – good luck tomorrow, hope it goes well.

I just started this 5:2 diet and my first fast day was Monday, my second is tomorrow. I’m sorta looking forward to it. Monday was a bit difficult at times, but all in all, easier than I thought. I did eat 520 calories that day (I’m doing the 500 fast). I’m hoping to be as successful tomorrow! Good luck to you! It’s a somewhat powerful feeling when you go to bed at night knowing “you did it!” I’ve never “fasted” before so all of this is a first for me.

This place seems to have lots of good people, good advice and wonderful support!

Thanks for the replies and the support Its good to know that we have started around the same time. My first fast day was yesterday and I got through the day quite well but in the evening felt really hungry! I solved it by having a herbal tea and an early night. It doesn’t really help that my husband can eat whatever he likes without putting on any weight – even on holiday! It seems looking at other postings that the 5:2 can become a way of life rather than that dreaded word “diet”. I have a friend who lives abroad and she and her husband have been doing it for around a year now and it has become a way of life for them. Anyway am not thinking too far into the future at the moment having only just done Day 1. I think my main difficulty is that I am such a “picker”. Am fine in the morning but in the afternoon I could easily pick at whatever is around and will raid the cupboards or fridge if my will power is low or I am feeling particularly tired. In that respect it was rather surprising that I felt so hungry in the evening as one thing I have never done is eat again after my main meal in the evening. Must be the backlash of fasting all day! Anyway plan to do another day fasting tomorrow as Husband is out all day and evening – so no eyeing up his plate enviously. Hope your fast days have gone well.

Hi Caoimhe, well done on your conversion to the 5:2 way of life. Over the years the word “diet” has become inextricably linked with weight loss, wrongly as is now recognised by many. Diet to me is simply what you eat good or bad. The 5:2 way of life is an achievable sustainable and healthy way of life for those in the know. By the way, you are never “Hungry” just “comfortably empty”.
    Good luck.
