  • Hi all,

Day 1 for me and it’s 2.30pm and I’m still here! Male, 46, ex-rugby player now struggling to keep the spare tyre from growing, so had to try something.

I stupidly didn’t read the whole book or stock up on the right food before starting today, so am doing my best and will get ahead of the game before the next fasting day. Breakfast of 219 cals, lunch of 268, so am wondering what I can make for dinner that’s around 115 cals!?!

Anyway, great forum and looking forward to really getting into this and seeing some results!

    Thanks,
    Dom.

    Hi Domx

That’s weird, started my fast diet today, male 46 ex rugby player…
Off on my holidays in 4 weeks and the wife has nagged at me long enough so drastic action required..! I think normal food is out the window on my fast days as there are just to many calories in what you think there aren’t any in. I am going a different route using Quavers crisps for my two fast days. 88 calories per bag means I can consume about 3-4 bags and eat some raw veg fruit to make up for the nutrients… At least they are tasty!

I had a workmate whose diet consisted of Quavers for lunch. They are indeed tasty but I prefer something more substantial for my savoury scoffing. I’m not sure Cheeselets could in any way be classed as a diet meal though.

I am 44, male and not an ex rugby player but I can testify that intermittent fasting (I’m on ADF) will most certainly erase any pot bellies.

    Hi Hoofhearted,

That’s a strange coincidence! I’m not sure if you’re the same as me, but the long term back and knee injuries from 20+ years of rugby mean that I exercise less and am therefore putting more weight on as I like my food too much 🙂

I love the Quavers idea! I’ve not worked out how many calories are in carrot batons (as an example), but I need to find something to fill the gaps a little as it’s now 4pm and I’ve got a tad over 100 calories left in the pantry for today!!!

    Good luck with it!

    HI domx:

You can eat any food you want on 5:2, but you may find your food preferences change as you do it longer. Here are some tips: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

For dinner – I take a can of pomodori pelati (400 g – 88 cal, but make sure it’s just the tomatoes, no sugar or anything else added), add the same amount of water, some stock cube, spices, and simmer it for a bit. Then I put the stuff in a blender – voilà, tomato soup.
If you have calories to spare, you could also add sundried tomatoes (10 g = 15 cal)and blend.
I find the soup very tasty and it tides me over until bedtime.
Hope this helps, good luck with your fast day.

See how you get on with the quavers but it’s generally a good idea to avoid carbs on fast days. They’re just going to make you hungry.

If you can’t be faffed making yourself a chicken salad, and if you are in a UK city, then there are a surprising number of options in EAT, Pret, itsu and the like. Check the cals on the website.

Soup is your friend. Eggs are your friends. Vegetables are you friends. Go easy on the fruit.

Fast day for me today. My first since Wednesday. Pret’s “no cream” cream of chicken soup for lunch. And homemade meatballs with courgette pasta and spicy tomato sauce for dinner.
