  • I have been doing 5:2 for a couple of months with varying but overall pleasing results and have lost over a stone and a half since start of Jan. I actually enjoy the days of fasting and do not feel inclined to eat anything at all surviving on hot drinks and enjoying feeling leaner etc. is this bad? Is there any views on ‘having to have 500 cals’ or is this just a guide to prevent any stupid behavior? I cant see anything in the book or this site that says you must have the min calories.

i love this – i get to enjoy pretty healthy eating with some treats if i wish – and go out at weekends and have a drink without guilt. i do work hard at the gym though. tuesdays and thursdays are my regular days to fast and find being busy at work simply distracts me from eating. Any views? Keep up the fight all you fasters.

Less is better and zero is the ultimate less.

I normally water fast with zero caloric intake on fast days. It’s just easier to manage for me. No calorie counting. Having meals with me or having to shop for things I may not have, time planning etc. Your mileage may vary.

Whatever you do ensure that it is sustainable over the long term. ie. The rest of your life. If you can’t stick to it you will begin to feel as if you’re failing and that leads to the big fall.

5:2 has to be tweaked for the individual. I firmly believe it is NOT a one size fits all.

    Hi Jeff and QuietOne,

I do two 0 calorie days too. I find it to be less of a hassle than trying to count 600 (or 500) calories and hunger hasn’t been a problem for me.

Sounds like you’re off to a great start; keep it up!
