  • Hello, all – I have been on the 5/2 diet for over a year, and have found it to be the most easy to maintain diet ever! I dropped 6 kg over the first year or so, but found myself indulging a bit too much on my ‘5’ days. Then, Christmas hit! Long story short, I’ve been back on the 5/2 diet diligently for the last few weeks, but am finding that the weight isn’t coming off as quickly as I expected. Does it take longer to get the weight off again, following a lapse on this diet? Do I need to be more careful on my ‘5’ days?

Any insights would be most appreciated!

    Hi Jackie:

If you are not losing as expected, going back to the basics is in order. Are you eating 500 cal. or less on your diet days and your TDEE or less on non diet days?

If you don’t know, then you might count calories for a couple of days and that will probably answer your question.

    Good Luck!

Recalculate your TDEE go with a lower (more sedentary exercise) and use that calculation to get your 25% of your TDEE and eat within your TDEE on nonfast days.

It’s likely you’ve picked up a few not so good eating habits that you have to retrain yourself on

There is no magic involved. On the assumption that your TDEE is about 2000 cals and you are actually only eating 2000 cals, and you are eating 500 cals on your fasting days then for the two days your deficit is 3000 cals for the week. Fat contains 9.3 cal/gram. So if we divide 3000 / 9.3 = 322 grams.

Assuming youre not over indulging on your non fast days and that your activity during your fast days is the same and you are actually only eating 500 cals, the best real weight loss (not including water) you can expect is only 322 grams per week (about 0.7 pounds).
