starting YET AGAIN!

  • hi everyone

    I did my first fasting day Monday and will do my second tomorrow

    I’m a man 14 and a half stone, 5ft 8′ 58 years old

    I have been miserable and fat for about 7 or 8 years because the diets I did just failed halfway through and I got fed up of trying (after nearly 30 years)

    my younger brother just had a stroke in January and there is lots of heart disease in my family on both sides so I’m looking to start again

    I have just started as well and have just finished my first week and have lost 2lbs.
    My OH is joining me as he needs to lose weight as over the past few years we have both put quite a lot of weight on.
    We both found our first week easy but my OH will not tell me how much he weighs, I am not even sure if he weighs himself but he will go by how he feels and how his clothes feel.
    I wish you luck and I am sorry to hear about your brother.
    You are doing the right thing by looking after yourself and you will not be alone on here trying to lose the weight.

    my brother is fine but only because he was so fit – this is the other reason I need to lose weight if it had been me it may have been a very different outcome!

    so it really is make your mind up time

    yesterday I had a really good fasting day I was hungry but it was definitely bearable and I was very strict about keeping the calories below 600

    I traveled across London and had a normal day visiting a friend and practical stuff all on a bowl of porridge in a tin of soup! it made me feel that I could really did stick to this regime

    I also felt as though I was giving my entire system and my body a rest

    and I was also enjoying giving my brain a rest from thinking about food preparing food eating food feeling bad about food etc.etc.

    I think I’m going to enjoy a holiday from food twice a week

    I’m glad to hear your brother is doing well, but certainly a wake up call.
    This my 1st week and have lost about 3lbs, mainly water I know but encouraging.
    Do you manage any exercise? can be helpful, just a short walk to clear the cobwebs. I walk my doggies and they always disappear for about an hour or two, must confess I do wander why I bother, but at least it’s a bit of exercise for me.
    I find if I only eat very small amounts on fast day it doesn’t trigger an urge to eat more and more, lots to drink (calorie free) ie water. It has also focused my brain on not pigging out on days when I can eat – there’s a first.
    Keep going.

    I can’t exercise as I have medical problems and I’m waiting for an operation

    but after that I want to statt walking aerobically which I enjoy

    the diet is going great I’ve lost a stone but I am over eating on the eating days which is a big problem

    not pigging out just eating far too much

    I need to train myself to have smaller amounts of food

    I’m sure that will come I’ve eaten exactly what kind of rubbish I wanted to eat for years and years so I have lots of bad habits I need to break

    I’m finding the fast days very easy to organise and if I stay busy very easy to do and enjoy the feeling of resting my whole system

    so I’m still very motivated and excited about the 5 2 diet!

    Not sure what your bad foods are. Probably the usual, chocolates, biscuits cake anything with sugar in it etc. I also found that things like bread and rice just made me hungry. 30 minutes later I was just looking to eat again. Ive upped my fat intake and protein intake by eating high fat low sugar yogurt and cheese. Sounds counter productive given all the dietary info we have been fed via the media but it worked for me. Do an experiment and give it a try. You might be pleasantly surprised. Fats satiate you for a lot longer.

    hi bigbooty I’ve stayed off the sugar quite successfully since my brother had this stroke – I’m actually scared to eat chocolate which is great!

    I’m vegetarian which is hard for protein although I do eat fish

    when I say I’m overeating I’m just making far too big a portion

    thanks for the yoghurt and cheese tip I find the whole protein and carbs then very confusing

    that’s why I’m so inspired by the 5/2 it’s really simple to understand

    Sounds as though you are going great.
    Portion size is a problem isn’t it! I find if I drink a big glass of water before I eat, it fills me up so I then don’t cook/put too much on my plate. Not sure if you’re cooking just for you, but only doing the amount you’re planning to eat may help. Works for me. It’s quite true that carbs, eg bread & rice make one hungrier, apparently it sparks something or other in your body to make you want more. I’ve cut out all carbs, except for the odd small piece of baquette when I am out for breakfast.
    I’m sure there are lots of vegetarian recipes on this sight if you have a look round.
    Tell me what is walking aerobically, could I do it?

    I find aerobic walking much easier than jogging that just as effective

    I wear a heart monitor to make sure I’m in the zone and walking hard enough to get my heart rate going and I listen to music which is the same rhythm as my footsteps just for a bit of inspiration
