  • Hi, my name is Mary and I am 59 and live in Scotland.
I looked at the 5:2 a few weeks ago and thought I would give it a go.
I had a bug last week so only started the diet this week and today is my first fast day.
I am currently 82kg but my first goal is to get to 78kg and then take it from there.
I am not very active due to health issues but I could try a bit harder and do some kind of exercise.
I purchased a Cross Trainer last year and have not used it but that is going to change.
I used to be a very fit person but the last few years my weight and body shape have gone astray.
My OH is doing the diet with me so that makes a big difference.
I am going to give this a good go as I want to get fitter and healthier so here’s hoping I stick to it but I think joining this forum will help me.

    Hi Mary,
Congratulations on starting 5:2. I started last week and found it achievable because I have the right mindset. I’m on my 2nd fast day of this week and have decided to do 4:3 as often as possible – so Monday, Wednesday, Friday ideally. The beauty of this regime is the flexibility to change fast days to fit in with social commitments. So there really is no need to feel that life is put on hold or that we’re missing out. If you (we) have an off day/last minute social opportunity we can just draw a line and start again tomorrow. This has to be a lifestyle change in order to maintain our targets, and reading the success of others on the forums, I’m hugely encouraged to hear that fasting becomes a normal part of everyday life – whether 5:2,6:1,4:3 or IF (intermittent). Everyone will be different and will work out what regime achieves the best results on desired timescales. I think doing this with your OH is a major benefit. I have friends who have incorporated 5:2 into their lives for a long time now and it works brilliantly for them.
All the best and I look forward to reading about your progress.

    Hi everyone
Well I have managed my first week with my 2 fast days being Wednesday and Thursday.
Thursday I felt really hungry and was still hungry after my dinner.
I decided to only have one meal per day but my OH who is also taking part in the diet had 2 meals each day and he said he did not feel hungry so I will see how it goes next week.
I did not feel it was as hard as I thought it was going to be but it is early days.
The good news is I weighed my self today and have lost 2lbs so I am delighted.
I do feel this is going to work for us as we have been saying for months that we are going to try and lose weight but never really done it properly so if this week is anything to go by I think we will both stick to the diet.
Its great my OH has decided to do this with me as it makes it so much easier to decide on meals and we can support each other.

Just finished my second week on the fast diet and I have lost another 1lb which is great.
I did not feel as hungry this week on my 2 fast days.
My OH doing well but he does not weigh himself as he would rather just go with how he feels which is good.

Week 4 finished and another 1lb lost so that 4lbs in total, very pleased.

    Hi Curley25,

Well done on your great progress. 4lb is a significant amount to lose, so I expect you can really see/feel the difference already.

I’m just recovering from a couple of weeks of flu and will be back on 5:2 next week. I hope to get back to the gym too, but going to be careful not to overdo it. Reminder already in diary to get flu jab later this year!

Have you any filling meal recipes to share??

    BW, S&C

    Hi Strawberriesandcream.
I do feel better and feel slimmer being 4lbs down.
I don’t feel so bloated so that makes me feel better.
Sorry to hear you have not been well so take it easy.
I don’t have any recipes yet as I have been buying M&S meals for one of the fast days and just having soup and sandwiches on the other day.
I do love cooking but wanted to get the calories right on my fast days to start me off.

This is my first week of fasting. I really hope this lifestyle works for me as I’ve always struggled with my weight and have tried so many things to rectify the fluctuation in weight and energy levels.

I’m only just about 5 foot and gain weight really easily and I’m fed up with the struggle! I eat healthily most of the time and try to avoid bread and sugar as both have negative effects on my digestion and weight. I also try to keep fairly active but I find hitting my forties has made it even harder!

I’d really like to lose at least a sixteen pounds and get down to the upper end of my healthy BMI. I usually falter about 10lbs off my ideal weight and then lose motivation and it slowly creeps back on. Usually in the autumn and the run up to Christmas, then I get my motivation back in January and follow the same pattern until next year. Madness, I know! I must have lost the same stone at least a dozen times!

Reading through the post’s has really given me the motivation needed to get back into my summer wardrobe because otherwise I’m going to be sweltering in baggy jumpers and leggings in July!

    Good luck everyone!

    Another 2lbs lost this week.
I am finding it a lot easier to do the Fast Diet than I did any other type of diet.
I think it is because I don’t cheat on this and stick to the 500 cals on the 2 fast days.

This is my first fast day. Cheer me on! New Jersey girl here, newly single again. Going for a new me.

Finally over my flu and weight wise back where I started pre-flu. So starting all over again tomorrow. Booked a holiday in the sun in 6 week’s time so there’s my motivation. Following a successful dry January I undid all that good work and then some. So back on the wagon until my holiday.

Good to hear of your successful progress Mary and hope you’re both doing well Jayres73 and Rachel32.

Yesterday was 2nd fasting day. I was starving in the morning but then it got better. This morning I got nauseous eating breakfast and all morning. Has that happened to anyone? Good news is I am down 7 lbs already!

Rachel32, another Jersey-ite here and I started a day before you. I’m going for the OLD me! Down a pound here. 8-10 more to go.

K-Lo. stay with it honey! I wish I had only 10 to go.. hehe

Rachel32, I’m vertically challenged. 10 pounds is two sizes. I broke my foot a few months ago, and turned into a couch potato. Ugh. Getting moving again.

Well another week over and feeling really good.
Only lost a half pound this week but I thought as much as I drank too much wine at the weekend.
Its still a loss so I am pleased.

A bit bummed to so no loss at all after FD. I think I stayed at 500, and ate very “clean” as well. But I shall carry on. I made salmon last night, and I’m taking the leftovers for a good healthful lunch today….with veggies or salad from the office cafeteria. Non fast breakfast of cottage cheese and plain yogurt. About 145 calories. I have a theatre date tonight with my sister and brother in law, but since it’s an early curtain we’re not dining together first. No temptations!

This losing weight thing is such a mystery. I “lost” 1.5lbs on both FD and WA-LA next day they magically reappear!

    What is WA-LA? Oh, duh,….voila?

LOL, I had forgotten that was the “proper” spelling.

I thought it was an 5:2cm acronym!!!

hmmm, maybe we can make it one. How about Weigh A lot, Lose A lot?

Yeah, lost 2lbs this week and feeling really good.
I am starting to see a difference in my clothes so that’s great.
I will need to watch what I am doing as I am off work for Easter and its always harder to watch what you are eating.
Also the added temptation of chocolate over Easter.

Down again. At the rate I’m going, I may actually hit my bridal weight on my 30th anniversary on April 20!!!
