  • Hello all!
Glad to have found you all, this looks just like what I am looking for. I have fasted in the past and it has helped to reset my system, mostly clearing out carb cravings and helping my mood improve tremendously. Increasing energy and decreasing depressive symptoms that arise in the winter.

I quit smoking two months ago, using yoga and mindfulness to deal with cravings, it worked very well. I also used it to keep on with healthy eating, it was working well till a couple of days ago and I can see in need support to keep on the path. So glad to have found you all.

Fasting for next two days, it won’t be totally easy but nothing worth while ever is:). I will feel increased positive control over my life and renewed dedication to my health.

    Wishing you all well!

Welcome to the forums Yogidog. I hope your fast days went well. All power to you.

Good to have you back on board!

Thanks you guys for the welcome, very much appreciated! On my second day now, didn’t make it the first day, but cutting down considerably probably helped yesterday go easier! Feel strong today can do about anything for a day. I like that this fast is short term, end date in sight. And I can see where it can lead to learning to eat healthy the other days. Going to go read the wisdom u all have on that now. Thanks again for the welcome, makes me feel part of. Hope your day is a good one:)

Welcome to a whole new you. 5:2 isn’t a diet it’s a pattern or way of eating so you can’t fail. Diets fail none of us fail at eating. Getting 5:2 to be as easy as breathing takes a bit of work but if you didn’t work at it you wouldn’t appreciate what you’re doing and being mindful and conscious of what we do is a great part of 5:2.

    A great read https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Best wishes on your journey.

    QuietOne, love your name:)

thanks for the response. From what I have read recently I see what you mean about 5 2 being a way of eating and not a diet yay!

I need to learn how to eat healthy, seeing clearly I never learned.

I really like the 5 2 because of the non rigid approach, I sure don’t need anymore feeling like I failed around food.

I will.go read the link u provided:) I made it through the two fast days under five hundred calories. It was interesting I started on another site first and I was trying to do a two day water fast and both days ate just a.little once I reread here, I realized I did just what is recommended! My body knew what to do. This is very reassuring that I am at the right.place for me.

I am one who doesn’t always read all the instructions, will go read the newbies faq!

Thanks so much wishing u a good day!

Good morning from cold, rainy Michigan! I have been reading the thread for newbies, learning alot, but had a question. How do u all most effectively post and respond? It looks like many people stay with one thread? Is it OK to participate or respond in others? Should u only respond to ones in your geographical region?

Any tips on being a.successful forum member appreciated, don’t want to irritate people unknowingly!

Love this site! Thank u all.

    Hi Yogi and welcome:

Some threads are ‘proprietary’ in that they are named for specific geographical areas (like Southern Hemisphere or Aussies) or sex (Ladies of a Certain Age). Most will ‘let you in’ by not saying anything – these threads usually don’t have a ‘sheriff’ that enforces any ‘rules’, although there are leaders on these threads that have taken on the challenge of helping to continue the discussion. A majority of the threads are open and you can contribute if you want to.

Even if you settle on a friendly thread (I have not seen an unfriendly one for over a year), I recommend that you keep looking all over the site, because there is an incredible amount of information here that you miss if you don’t. It is common to find one or more people wondering about something on one thread that has been thoroughly explained on another. The easiest way to keep up on the new information on the site is to go under ‘Forum’ at the top of the page and hit ‘Recent Posts’. This shows all current posts on the site, regardless of thread. You can then decide which you want to focus on. Also, look around the site. If you don’t, you may find yourself asking about recipes when there is an entire section of the site devoted to food.

    Welcome and good luck!

Simcoeluv, what u wrote confirms I was reading things right concerning the threads, wouldn’t be shunned but looks like many have been together for quite a bit. There is no shortage of info to absorb for awhile and will have a better feel for things after I have been here for a bit. like you said most questions are covered somewhere and thank u for the newbie thread, that covers most.

Good to hear in keeping up on new info by hitting the recent posts that is what I had been doing. Had been reading on my phone just saw all the other sections you mentioned when I came on the iPad. Endless education for a bit. This approach is working really well for me, thank u!
