Time to make a change

  • Hi, I’ve decided it’s time to make some changes in my life, diet and exercise. I’m a walker by nature, but want to walk stronger and faster and in order to acheive this I need to lose weight and get healthier. I thought I’d try the 5 2 diet and see if that makes any difference to my energy levels. Has anyone noticed they have encreased energy levels?

    I’m just starting back into fasting at 50 years old. However, I fasted for a full year when in university and found it amazingly energizing. At the time I was doing a 2 day a week program similar to the 5:2 but I was only drinking water for the full day up to 36 hours.

    What I found back then, and am starting to experience again now, is the quiet feeling I get on the fast day. Basically, there is no digestion going on which saves a lot of energy and allows the system to rest. I may not be the most energized on the fasts days (although I generally go to the gym at lunch and will do an hour of martial arts in the evening).

    However the breakfast days are great. That first meal revives me and my digestive system and overall energy always seems high. It feels like my body is able to use the food I feed it to its fullest value.

    I’m not sure what your food choices are like but it is important that you refuel with quality nutritious foods as I’m sure you are.

    One thing I do a little differently than the 5:2 is abstaining from food from the night before to the following morning after a full day of fasting. This is a bit harder to do, but I find the results even more dramatic. The fast day itself can be challenging though and I sometimes have a light dinner at the end of the fast day if it gets to hard.
