  • hiya, hope everyone is having a great Monday!

First day of fasting for me, and feeling very cold but know that’s usual! I have done fasting in the past and its helped me (with exercise), recently slipped off the wagon after running a 1/2 marathon 🙁

Was fairly fit but have had a chest infection and cold and put on the winter fat!! Not good as we are going away for a couple of weeks over Xmas and New Year and I need to look reasonable in a bikini!!

Not sure how I have managed to put on nearly a stone in under 2 months but need to do something about this now before it gets out of hand!

So back to day 1, again! Hoping to stick to at least 2 fast days a week, maybe even 3, for a couple of weeks and then stick to 2 until we go away. Has anyone tried IF – every other day fasting – how have you found that?

Looking for support to keep going during the Xmas party season as it is pretty hard at the moment not to put junk into my mouth – easier just to fast I think!!

    xx

Hiya, I do alternate day fasting with 100 calories on fast days.
It’s easy enough if you want to lose weight enough. I’ll do it until just before Christmas and come back to it in early January after which I’ll go onto 5:2 to maintain.
I’m sure you’ll be the belle of the pool in no time.

Managed to survive day 1 yesterday and lasted until my dinner in the evening. However, found today harder – have others found they are more tired the day after a fast? I went to a spin class tonight which was hard but afterwards felt really hungry like my belly was eating itself and felt sick and (windy) after eating?!

Has anyone else felt this, was going to fast tomorrow as well to give myself a boost for the first few weeks by doing 3 fasts a week – but maybe I need another day between fasts?

    Hi Fattymessi and welcome:

It takes your body about a month to adapt to 5:2 and everyone experiences different things. I would prove to myself that I can do two fasts a week before trying three. The easiest way to give up on 5:2 is to have a lot of problems or hunger at the start, and you will have fewer problems and less hunger if you prove to yourself you can do 5:2 first.

Here are some tips – I suggest you read the ‘Warnings’ link first: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

Thanks simcoluv – found the post useful.

Anyway 2nd fast for this week, and found today easier as I was busy at work so kept my mind of things. Probably had a little bit extra in terms of calls (100) as was around 450 on Monday which was a bit too low.

We’ll see how I feel tomorrow, am going to try and eat clean and do a gym session tomorrow and see how I feel.

Just a quick question, how often are people weighing themselves? Once a week? Or after their 2/3 fast session of the week?

    Hi Fattymessi:

I think people weight themselves depending on their personalities, and that there is no pattern. Some weight daily, some weekly, some monthly (my preference) and some not at all. As for days, again everyone is different. Some after fast days, some on a certain day regardless of when they fasted that week – everyone seems to do it differently, and all will be happy to explain why the way they do it works the best.

Bottom line, weight whenever and as often as you want to!

Hello Fattymess…I’m a newbie too, and am four weeks into 5:2, weighing myself about every 15 days, simply because that’s a habit. 5:2 is working! Small regular weight losses. Yay! I’ve found that a Pop-Up Fast works for me. Plans for the rest of the week have changed suddenly and there’s chicken ready to cook so Fast Day has popped up ahead of the original Friday one! I tend not to do too much leaping about exercise on fast days as it makes me feel wobbly…but suspect this is part of the acclimatisation process. However, we have a Samba dance class tonight, the last one before Christmas, and I don’t want to miss it, so will balance the 500 calories carefully through the day and just see how it goes! (A banana will be in the dance bag just in case!)

    Good Luck for your 5:2……
