I’m happy to be here for support. I like to post everyday it keeps me focused on my goal and remember why I’m doing this. I don’t want to take all my hard work and make it all for nothing, and checking in helps me with that. This is my third week, and every week I become more motivated and sincere about this being my lifestyle. If you like to check in with someone daily, I’ll be here π
Hi rmdodd and welcome:
Here is most of the information you will need going forward with 5:2: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/
Good Luck!
Nearly 5pm here and have had 420 cals already so dinner will be just some vegetables.
I lost nothing the first week as I was still trying to work out how to survive on 500 cals but have lost 1kg this week.
I am drinking a lot more water and watching what I eat on non FD’s.
I have 15kgs to lose but have set little goals of 5kgs, then 10kgs etc.
Hope you all did well today.
Hi all,
I’m new to the 5:2 diet and have my first fast day today! It’s close to noon where I am. Halfway through the day and I feel pretty good!
Did anyone find that blogging about your progress was helpful? I just started writing (www.itsmesheela.com) and thought that maybe if I write about my progress it will force me to stay on track. I’m a newbie so any advice is welcome! Thank you!
Hi Sheela and welcome:
Here is some advice that might help: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/
Good Luck!
Hi all,
I just started today as well with my first fast day. Having tried many different ways to loose the same 10 – 15 lbs (5 to 7 Kilos) I am skeptical and a little disillusioned but so much want to believe this will work. Looking for something that is sustainable in life.
It is really nice to see others out here on the same journey. Thanks for all your posts. It really helps. I am in the US.
Sounds like everyones doing great π it definiately helps me to write down how I’m doing, it keeps me on track better. My fast day was good yesterday, I may have been slightly over, but only slightly. Didnt get much sleep last night though π Tired, but determined! Maybe a walk at lunchtime will help and wake me up a bit.
Stay strong everyone, and have a good day π
Hi All, Feeling bloated and constipated after my FD. I felt like this last week as well but have just found a thread on the issue and they assure me it goes away after a while. Perhaps I need to start walking a bit in the mornings to get things moving.
I don’t blog or write as I just don’t have time. Good luck with your blog’s, let us know how they go. I would read them if I had time.
Speak all soon.
Hi Mauvemyriad
Thank you for your supportive thoughtful post and sharing your blog ! It’s really good to read your and everyone’s testimonies and your blog ?
My first fast day went well overall. A few really tough spots through day with the hunger and worried I wouldn’t make it but water, herbal tea with stevia and breathing really helped.
I even made it through and hour of my spin class. The trick got me was to save some calories for the end of the day before sleep as it’s hard for me to sleep when I am extremely hungry. (As I am reading for others too).
I know we can eat a normal day in moderation but I feel so mindful of not wanting to blow it so have to be careful of that kind of thinking. I want to loose weight but want something sustainable.
Dragonfly. I saved 100 calories for a snack and tea an hour before bedtime and that helped me sleep.
This blog is really comforting. Thank you all.
Ps I know we don’t need to track calories but does anyone use something to get a sense of staying with normal range. I was using My fitness pal app before and thought of continuing.
Also can anyone tell me how we use the TDEE. Is that the amount we should be eating on eating days ? Considered out normal caloric intake ?
This is in advance.
Hi everyone, I would like to join your group. I started yesterday so am now on my second day. It is nearly 5pm and I am feeling a little lightheaded but am going to try a cup of tea before I head home in about an hour. Yesterday was okay so hoping I can get through the day. I don’t have much on this evening so if all else fails I can just go to bed. I am enjoying reading all of your posts – I think it will keep me going.
Karen
Hi Everyone! Thanks so much for the encouragement and kind words. My first fast day was difficult, but not as bad as I thought it would be!
Simcoeluv, your link was very helpful! I did read one 5:2 diet book (The 5:2 Diet by Kate Harrison) but your link provided much more practical information.
Mauvemyriad, I’ll definitely follow your journey as well π Fortunately, after my first fasting day I didn’t have any side effects. I did make sure to drink plenty of water and, like Simplycurious, saved my calories for the end of the day. I find that when I’m busy at work, it’s easier not to think about food. It’s usually once I get home in the evening that I want to eat everything in the pantry!
Simplycurious, you’re correct- on non-fasting days you should be eating at or below your TDEE in terms of calories. And, I’m very impressed you made it through your spin class!
Did any first fast folks experience any side effects?
Also, can I just say how delicious my breakfast tasted this morning? I definitely savored it knowing that tomorrow is another fast day!
Hi Simply:
Read the TDEE post in this thread for answers to your questions: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/
Good Luck!
Hi all, I am fasting today, doing 3:4 for 6 weeks to get things moving and it seems to be working. Lost another 0.8kg. Had a strong black coffee this morning and will have celery and carrot sticks at lunch with miso soup and for dinner steak and salad. I use My fitness pal to monitor my calories which really helps to stay on track. Will also be doing an hour on the treadmill. Good luck everyone.
Sue
Hello from NZ
I just started again last week after a break since march. January to march I lost about 6.5 kg. I have lost another 3.7kg so just over 10kg. I am really happy. I try for Monday and wednesday. I am a chef, so some days it just doesn’t work if I am tasting things all day. I find it easier to not eat at all during the day. I tend to drink coffee, or have a tablespoon of chia in water and lemon to stave off the munchies.
Hi Everyone
I have done my first 2 days Mon and Tues. I was very busy with work which helped to keep my mind off food. I had to work 2 long days so by about 6pm I started to feel quite heady but I had some nettle tea which I like a lot and that helped. This morning I am thinking I can eat lots today but need to be careful I don’t go over what I should. How often do you all weigh? Good luck to everyone fasting today
Karen
Hi everyone! My fast days are Mon/Thurs. Monday went ok, but I imagine Thursday will be a bit tougher. I slept so much better last night, although had the problem with bloating that so many seem to suffer with. I drink so much water during the day to try and stop it. With regards to weighing, I try and keep it to once a week, I did used to do it daily, but it can fluctuate so much daily, I am sticking to once a week now. Monday morning usually π Have a great day everyone, half way through the week! Stay strong π
Glad to see more support and new people here. My fast days are now Mon and Thur, and I’ve been loving this so much. Tomorrow is my last day of my fourth week, and it’s the first time I’ve done something like this where I become more and more committed and centered. I’m impressed with those who do 4/3, and will do it every once in awhile, but I love the idea that it’s a choice. I’m in the US, so sorry if my support seems to be delayed. It does give me pause when I realize, wow today someone is going through this today with me. I have this feeling of, I know they can do it, they ARE doing it, so there is really no excuse for me to not stay on plan and embrace what’s happening. I’m not sure if that’s weird or not haha.
Anyway, have a wonderful day, and I look forward to my fast day tomorrow and noting that it went well, and was a success.
Hey all! Hope everyone is doing well :)So, I have a question… today was supposed to be my second fasting day for this week, but I’ve caught a nasty cold. Do you still fast when you’re sick? Honestly I’ll probably end up staying around 500 calories anyway just from loss of appetite, but I’m not actually trying to fast today since I want to recover as quickly as possible. Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you!
Hi all
Day 3 and 2nd fast day. My second fast day is feeling much harder to get through the hunger pangs. I seem to be much hungrier than the 1st day. Reading your posts instead of grabbing food !!
Sheela since I am new I will defer to the more experienced. Hope you get better soon.
Amala good for you for trying 4:3!!
Hi everyone
Today was my 3rd day but not a fast day so my salad I had for lunch seemed amazing as I put chicken, egg and some cheese in it. Complete contrast to yesterday’s fast day where it was mainly lettuce, cucumber and peppers. I didn’t find the two fast days together too tough on Mon/Tues I did feel a bit lightheaded towards the end of the day but I told myself once I have done them fasting is all over for the week. I also don’t go out on Mon or Tues evenings so I can just come home and flop in front of the tv. I really like the fact that everyone is all round the world and posting at different times.
Have a good day
Karen
Second fast day of the week for me. I ate normally yesterday. I do enjoy my fast days, although this one may be a bit rough, I’m determined. I’m finding on my non-fast days that I’m actually feeling a bit guilty for eating more, and feel I need to still keep it really low. I didnt go over my limit yesterday, but feel I ate too much. I’ve got my heater with me at work .. I get so cold on fast days.
Good luck and keep up the good work everyone, we can do this!
Hi everyone,
I have started 5:2 again after several months and I do my fast days on Mo.and Thu. Other days I eat low carb because I have a big tendency to have high (around 7mmol) sugars if I eat anything with flour like biscuits, cake, bread etc. I liked this system(5:2) earlier and found it easy then to follow. Now I feel I’ll follow this forum more often and maybe get even more concentrated on the future good health. See you later.
Tuula!!! I’m so pleased your back π I’ve started this week, 2nd fast day and struggling a bit with hunger pains π Just logged on to make myself accountable, because I am so determined to do this, if nothing else then for the health benefits. Good luck!
How’s everyone else doing? Like I say, the pain is bad today, but I’m not giving in. Water water water, and just had some peppermint and nettle tea to ease it a little.
Stay strong π
Dragon Fly I had my second fast day yesterday and struggled as well bug lots of water and herbal tea helped. I was determined too. You can do it. Hang in there !! I also came here to read and get inspired when I was struggling !
I get very cold on fast days too so kept my jacket on at work !!
Stay strong !! ??
Donnamaxine. Thanks for sharing. I think it’s important not to think about it as a failure. lots of compassion towards ourselves is important. Some days feel harder than others and we make different choices. But the Beauty is each day we start anew.
Sleep well.. One day at a time. It’s great to have this forum as a place for sharing and support.
Hi everyone π
donnamarie, the good thing with this plan is that if we go a little astray on a fast day, we can always do our fast day another day π I struggled so much yesterday, and confess I did go over my 500 cals too. A day at a time is the way to go, and see how it goes.
simplycurious, good job on your fast yesterday, I had so much water and herbal tea too! It does help π Being cold is a big problem for me, I had my heater on at work, while everyone else was saying it was too warm haha!
So glad its Friday, I was going to allow myself some wine tonight, but have decided to stay strong and try and stay away from it. I know thats what is stopping me losing, so if I can make it through weekend without any, I will feel I’ve accomplished something. I feel better for not having any, and my clothes are already feeling looser, so why spoil that feeling.
Have a great day everyone and focus on your goals, we’ve got this!!!
Hi, Iβd like to join in this group please. Iβm 46, live in the uk, and had to have a hysterectomy last November. I have been steadily putting on weight since and would love and desperately need to loose about 42lbs. I have read βThe Fast Dietβ and it has inspired me to give it a go. However, my start date keeps moving for some reason or another so Iβm setting a date now β I am going to start Monday 26th October 2015. My FDβs will be Monday and Thursday, Iβm not sure what Iβll eat on those days yet but Iβll have the weekend to look into that and hopefully be ready to start and join in with you all.
Wish me luck, I have a feeling I’m going to need it.
Hello everyone! Each day, the scale fluctuates, and sometimes it seems like the weight loss isn’t really declining ultimately. Thank god for the health reasons as to why to continue this WOL or I can imagine people giving up. But, if you look at the big picture, you will notice more is happening than you think. Here has been my experience the first month:
Sun Sept 17- 133.2 Starting weight
Sun Oct 4- 125.6
Sun Oct 11- 128.2
Sun Oct 18- 126.8
Sun Oct 25- (I believe it will be 125.2, but I’ll let you know tomorrow)
Take it a day at a time. Don’t ever feel defeated. Be patient. Know this is good for you no matter what. Don’t give up. Nothing is out of your reach.
On to week 5 tomorrow! Love Love Love this! Completely changing my life.
Mauvemyriad even though expected it’s hard to look those we love. Sincere condolences to you and your family. It is very easy to go off course during times like this but kudos to you for being so mindful.
Thanks Dragonfly. I did have wine tonight bug stayed under my TDEE! Was very paying close attention !
Amala it is good to look at the overall picture. You are trending down but more important you are loving it and feeling good!! Congrats.
And yes welcome frumpiefloss. I agree great name!!
Mauvemyriad,
You have done great in spite of your loss of your grandfather. So sorry to hear that but life is what it is. Most often the psychological things ‘disturb’ your way of living but you could keep on the track. I wish I could be as strong a person as you are. I eat too often on my non-fasting days according to my feelings though I know I should not because of my health problems.
Tomorrow is my 2nd fasting day and I must say I am looking forward to it. I feel confident and I think I will be doing ok but this weekend I did not eat according to LCHF – I ate biscuits,3 LARGE cake slices and all the crap. But tomorrow is another day as Scarlett said on the movie Gone with the Wind-my all favourite film and book(the book was bought by my dad during the II WW while my mom was in the hospital near the Russian lines giving birth to my sister thru Ceaserian section in a town which Finland had to leave to….. I like historical things like the last season(unfortunately) of Downton Abbey !Sorry for the long writing session.
