  • Hello,

I have tried too many diets to count, sometimes I think I am a diet addict. This one seems to be reasonable so I thought I would give it a go.

    5’5 age 34, two toddlers
Currently 186 and would like to get down to 135 in the long term but also lose 15 lbs or a stone by thanksgiving ( last Thursday of this november)

    Looking for diet buddies.

Hi SS, Did you get your Fast started? All power to you! I hope your toddlers keep you distracted and you find the day goes quickly and well!
    I’m fasting Thursday!

    Hello Cinque,

Yes I did my fast yesterday, and I successfully stuck to the 500 cal requirement however I have to say that it was very hard. There were times where I was dizzy and the hunger was a bit much. I also did not sleep well.

That being said I woke up in the morning and weighed myself to see a 4 lb loss! This cushioned the bad experience from yesterday so I will do my second fast day tomorrow.

This time I will up my water and non caloric fluids as I am not always the best with this. Is there anything else that I can do to make this easier?

oh yes, yesterday I ate 500 cals of yogurt and chicken.

    Tomorrow’s game plan:

I made myself a giant vegetable soup with a handful of brown rice (aprox 400 cal) for the day and 100 cal for some milk in my coffee in the morning. Lets see how this works. Wish me luck!

I’ve found herbal tea is very good at staving off hunger pangs, as is drinking a lot of ice cold water. Black coffee is always a good one too, and gives you a bit of energy.

If you feel really bad, it might be worth eating small meals throughout the day. This is what I need to do otherwise I am just miserable. I tend to snack on celery and tomatoes with a little salt. So delicious 🙂

    Hi Skinnysuccess

Well done for sticking to the 500 calories on the first go. It took me til my 4th fast day before I did it properly, not that I was that over just 1 or 2 hundred! Even yesterday my fast was 700, but then I think it’s less than I eat normally.

Chicken and yoghurt are good food choices for fast days, I stay away from carbs, for 2 reasons, first being they have lots of calories and also I find carbs many moreish. My typical fast day is
Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs (2 squirts of 1 cal spray)
Lunch: Homemade soups- I freeze them in 100 calorie portions
Dinner: a piece of fish or chicken with lots of veg.
In between meals: herbal teas, small orange or tomato.
I find spreading my calories in small amounts throughout the day suit me well, others prefer to go hungry all day and then have a 500 calorie meal at night. Being new I would try different ways of using your 500 calories in the 24 hour period. And seeing what fits.

I really love 5:2 I have been doing to for 6 months now, and while I’ve only lost 9lb, I know it’s something that I will stick to from now on. It has given me back control from my eating. The reason I’m not losing as much as I should be is my fault, and I know that, I took all of the summer off from it as I was away a lot and didn’t want the stress of thinking how to stick to the calories of fast days. But even during summer, I didn’t pig out as I was content in the knowledge that I was still a 5:2 faster and I would pick it up again when the children went back to school in September. And to my total surprise I did get back into it. That is the first time ever, I have come off a diet and then gone back to it. I put 5lb on over summer and have lost that and another 1lb aswell.

This diet may be called ‘fast’ but it is not a fast way to lose weight. So a stone for thanksgiving is possible but don’t be disheartened if the progress is slow as this is meant to be lifestyle choice not a quick fix, and if you’re anything like me you’ll have done quick fixes and put the weight back practically as soon as it came off.

I am really happy with my 9lb as I know I’m in better shape and now than I would have been if I’d done nothing at all.

Well done for making the decision to do 5:2

    Hello,

Yesterday I stuck to the 500 cal again, but instead of doing all vegetable soup I had 160 cal of quaker oatmeal in the morning which I believe had 27 grams of sugar. It made me happy and made the first half of the day easy but this morning I actually gained 0.2 lbs from last time. That’s a bummer.

Also did not sleep at all last night, all I could think about was food and I was very uncomfortable.

I did increase my liquids and yesterday was an improvement from the first fast day, but not seeing the scale move was a let down.

After I had my first baby I had no problem losing weight on weight watchers. It was falling off at a rate of 3 lbs per week. Not sure why I am stuck in limbo land, the land of never ending new diets that don’t work.

Seems like my body wants to keep the weight on after y second baby. Frustrating

not sure if this will help, but it took me around 10 fasts to see any weight come off. I think as we get older the body doesnt want to relinquish its cushion. I was the same as yiu after my first child my weight fell off, I hadn’t been such good shape since my teens then baby number 2 comes along and it doesn’t shift.

keep with it. Intermittent fasting had huge health benefits aswell so even if you’re not shifting the weight tell yourself it’s doing your body good.
