  • Good morning forum
We are starters at 70 and 66 which just goes to show that age doesn’t matter.
Thank goodness my husband is as serious as I a, about losing weight.
    It definitely helps to share.
The kick start for me was I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea.
I was told lose weight or wear a mask for the rest of your life.
    Quite a incentive.
We did not feel we were overweight but I guess you just kid yourself.
Anyway what I would like to know is what do people eat on the under 500 days.?
We have started and have lost a couple of pounds but have found it very difficult as everything has calories and for years the things like veg which we thought were calorie free weren’t.
    Help please.

    Welcome Victoriaal,
What would you like help with?
    Is it counting calories?

You could do what I do which is have a small bowl of porridge in the morning, and a bowl of soup (with a piece of my homemade toast) in the evening. That way I don’t need to worry about counting calories.

I try not to have cuppas with milk in during the day, but mostly I have at least a couple! I am still feeling healthier and losing weight, so I keep going!

    Hello cinque
    Thanks for the reply.
We found it very interesting because as beginners you are feeling around in the dark so it is very uplifting I to know what works for others.
How long have you been doing it and has it worked as well as you hoped.
We find we are really being careful at what we buy and reading all labels.
At the moment we also have a small bowl of porridge about 110 calories.
Lunch small bowl of veg again about 100.
Then we leave 250-280 for dinner if this is not working we will have to think again.
I imagine the diet will stall at a unknown time then we will have to review the situation.
Is one pound a week normal?

    Hi Victoriaal,
I have been doing 5:2 since mid July (Bastille Day in fact!) so nearly three months.
As well as not being good at counting calories, I am not good at weighing myself (I haven’t got scales). But I can tell it is working well for me because my clothes fit so much more comfortably, some I have given away because they are too big. It is becoming summer here in Australia and it is so nice to feel happier about my arms showing!

My philosophy is not to be in a hurry, just to be glad that my health is improving and my weight is lessening. But at two months of being on 5:2 I had lost 10 centimetres from my waistline. I will measure it again next week and see how much more I have lost.

    Well done cinque.
It looks like it is really working for you.
At least when you give clothes away it makes you want to replace your wardrobe.
I was told losing 7 lbs mean you go down a dress size I’m not there yet but early days.
I agree softly softly is the best idea otherwise it would be easy to go back to bad habits.
I reckon you would be very pleasantly surprised if you did weigh yourself.Keep up the good work.

    Thanks Victoriaal,
I am quite looking forward to when I get a chance to weigh myself!
I hope you get into the swing of it. If the Fast Days fit easily into your life, than you can just keep living and let the weight change take care of itself!
    Best wishes
