  • Hello. Pretty excited to begin this journey. Am guilty of eating and drinking all the wrong things and despite being vegetarian do not eat that healthily. Reallly keen to reap the health benefits (plus a little weight loss would be nice) from 5:2!

Good luck I have b been doing this diet for 9 weeks and have lost 10 pounds but just back from family reunion and have really binged on drinking and food still back fast tomorrow

I am vegan and believe me, we eat junk too!

Wow, Finn, 10 lbs. in 9 weeks is awesome. Congratulations! Glad you enjoyed yourself at your reunion. That’s what 5:2 is all about – living! There’s always a fast to return to unlike other diets where you’ve blown it and just throw in the towel!

Hey guys thanks for posts – I’ll need all the motivation I can get! Yeah there’s an assumption that if you are vegetarian you must eat a raw, organic, healthy diet where the reality for me is quite different. Aww caffeinated – how can a vegan eat unhealthilty?? I am guilty too of assuming that vegans must be healthy! Sadly I eat wayyyyy too much bread, cheese, refined sugar, processed foods etc etc.. I do have the odd apple though and grapes (well, if wine counts!). So, today is day one officially. Am at 138lbs which is not huge but for me it is on the larger/more uncomfortable side. Have a great day folks!
Congratulations Finn – I hope I’m 10lbs down in the next couple months too:)

    wow – found zero noodles!!!

One of the big unexpected benefits for me with 5:2 has been to learn to enjoy good, healthy food more. The deliciousness of good fruit on the morning after a fast day always blows me away. And if you had told me a few months ago that I would really enjoy a tex-mex tofu and veggie bowl with a little rice and a pinch of cheese, I would’ve said, “no way, that’s weird hippie food,” but that’s what I had for dinner tonight and it was tasty!
If you’re wanting to move to a healthier diet, check out the The Dorito Effect book by Mark Schatzker for some fascinating insight to the weird and wonderful world of processed foods and how they mess with your body. Makes it easier to bypass the chips now.

Hi Katkins99 really appreciate your comments -yeah Ive been veggie for 29 years(am 38) and am slimmish but I KNOW my diet is junk! Thank you – i will definitley have alook at the book – oh no!!! This could actually work at putting me off junk!!!

Have done the 5:2 before but became ill (nothing to do with the 5:2, I hasten to add) Have decided to start again with one fast day this week then two per week from next. Unfortunately, was too late to start today and do not wish to do two on the trot. Am vegan and alaso love my junk food, although I also consume plenty of healthy stuff too. I think the problem here is ‘plenty of’, I really need to exercise portion control. So, here we go then. Onwards and upwards – unfortunately though, without the benefit of much exercise to start as getting over a knee op. I like the sound of a nice steady 1lb per week – more or less – and will see how things go. Good luck everyone.
