..and good to meet you all. I have quite a way to go (want to lose about 2 stone) but hope to stick with it. One question: do you all try to keep within your TDEE on non-fast days? Good luck to everyone.

Hi, I also have about 2 stone to lose and started a few weeks ago. I have come to the conclusion that I need to be careful about what I eat on non-fast days as I have lost weight on fast days then piled it back on again which is really depressing. I run between 4 and 6 days a week which is great but as I get older (I am 52) it seems to be much harder to shift the weight. I am going on the premise that the health benefits are the main goal here, but I would also like to be slimmer again. I would recommend logging what you eat on an app called
My Slimming Pal, as it gives all of the nutrients as well as calorie counting and you can add exercise to get an overall view. It was quite a shock to see how much sugar there is in fruit so I now try to eat more veg instead.
Hi Lindylou, welcome to the forum!
I have been on this way of life for 9 months now and I have reached my goal weight of 56kg…nearly…600g missing.
I have been doing a combination of 5:2; 4:3; ADF; just calorie counting; 16:8; 20:4; 22:2 combined with exercise over the duration of the last nine months as I get easily bored and impatient. I have lost 6kg in the first 8 weeks and then it went v e r y slowly. (I started with 65kg)
In a nutshell: if you eat less calories than you burn you will lose weight. You can burn more calories by including exercise in your daily routine and this will speed things up. At the end of the day though weightloss is controlled easiest by diet. It takes quite a bit of time to burn 300 clories through exercise but only a moment to eat a Mars bar…
Nevertheless, I did not let it get me down if I gained a lbs or two. Over the last 4 weeks I was travelling abroad and I did not pay any attention to what I ate. I fact I had ice cream every day and sweets whenever I felt like. I also ate far more calories than I usually do and to my utter surprise I only gained 1.5 Kg.
Now I am back on my regime and I am doing my second fast day in a row today to get rid of the gained lbs.
One of the best investments I did was to get myself a pedometer (Fitbit One) and a multi sports watch with heart rate monitor. This way I can see how any calories I have burned through exercise which allows me to eat a bit more when I feel like. TDEE is just guess work while a eart rate monitor is more precise.
It is not a race to lose weight, at least not for me.
Best of luck
Stef.
Hi all,
Like most of us been up & down the scale many times. I am just approaching my 50th birthday. I have 3 auto immune conditions, from Hashimoto’s (underactive thyroid caused by last pregnancy), also coeliac (gluten free) and glucose intolerant, diabetes usually is the third member of the group to join Hashimoto’s & coeliac. Considering that I feel very well. I am trying to swim 5 times a week and do lots of walking as work from home as website designer so sat on my butt a fair bit.
There seems to have been a change of thought with Drs regarding Thyroxin and my dose was dropped from 225mg to 100mg last year and I put back on the 20lb I had lost such a pain in the butt. They have now put it back up to 150mg as far too low.
I have always done low carb high fat which suits me as I never eat processed food cook being a coeliac everything from scratch, the most time consuming being when I crave scampi and have to hand breadcrumb each piece individually. LOL
Although I usually eat a high fat diet I do have low cholesterol
Lately low carb does not seem to be working as well so I have moved over to the 5:2 diet.
I have been using my fitness pal app. I have not counted calories for about 30 years so I was so shocked when I started weighing stuff especially butter.
I am aiming to loose about 28lbs. I have lost 12 lbs so far in 5 weeks, been doing 5:2 for 2 weeks lost 6 lbs.
The first week fasting was very easy but the second week I found hard and upset tummy, I think one of my tablets is affecting me when my cals drop very low.
Best of luck to you all
Kathy
