  • Hi all

I completed my first fast day on Wednesday and woke up feeling very sick and light headed. Is this a normal side effect and will it be regular?

On the plus side, I’m down three lbs after my first fast day – must have been carrying a lot of water!

Today is my second fast day and I’m feeling motivated, but have planned a few things to distract me until it’s time for my 500 cals!

Yes this might happen. Will it be always like this? That depends on each individual. I never had a problem with this. Make sure you drink enough water or tea on your fast days. Also what helped me was to eat just one meal at dinner time. This gives me 500 cal in one go and I do not go to bed hungry. This also lengthens the time between meals which is better in a sense of fasting.
Another way of helping me through fast days is to occassionally make myself a 500 cal veggie smoothie in the morning that I sip on throughout my day, albeit no dinner on those days.

    Best of luck
    Stef.

Maybe have a look at what you ate on fast day–did you have enough protein ?

DMA22, feeling sick and faint the morning after fast day is not normal or typical, but usually the first few fast days are the hardest as our bodies adjust. I hope that your second fast day is going well and that you wake up feeling great tomorrow 🙂

Hi everyone, thanks for all your thoughts and advice. I drank more water today and my protein intake was around 20g on my first fast day. Today went very well and I didn’t feel too hungry! Will be interested to see how I feel tomorrow morning, hopefully not like I did after the first fast. Will report back tomorrow.

    Thanks!

I try to get more protein than that on a fast day; I don’t usually get to my recommended 43 grams, but I try to get to at least 30, since the body uses protein daily for repair and doesn’t store much (if any). Trying to count both calories and protein can get to be a bit much, I don’t obsess over it, but am mindful of it.

Thanks for the advice Franfit, perhaps on my next fast day I’ll try and incorporate a hemp protein shake (the one I use is around 20g of protein and 160 cals). I’m a vegetarian so the obvious sources of protein are missing from my diet! And I very rarely have eggs and cheese.

I have just woken up after my second fast day and seem to be feeling ok at the moment! And also another pound down 🙂

Sunwarrior is a vegetable based protein. I use it for the last six months and it is great. 20g of protein and only 100cal. Alternatively Questbars taste fantastic, are a great treat, have 20g of protein and 160 cal. Not sure whether as a vegetarian you eat Greek yoghurt? Tons of protein in Greek Yoghurts!
    Best of luck
    Stef.
