    Ate a lot today but I certainly burned off the calories. 5 hours of renovations and then took my boys out for a walk in the botanic gardens. Shower and sleep then ready for round 2 tomorrow.

    Day 2 of my strength training regimen and it was painfully hard and I needed to stop and eat something to stop the nausea and continue 😂 I will be doing this 2 days a week with only 5 pound weights to see how it goes before I increase my weights. Fast day yesterday went well and I will do another tomorrow. @ccco then maybe I can lose as much as you 😄

    I did about 5 hours of gib-stopping yesterday and I’ll be sanding things down today so we can start painting soon. Hopefully we can get all our renovations done before we go on holiday and I can get my weekends back.

    I got my second fast day in today instead of on the usual Thursday. At least it’s still 5:2!

    Let me ask: When I go through the Forum menu and then select a topic, instead of sending me to the last page of entries, the website sends me to the one before it. So, instead of sending me to page 9 which is where we are right now, it sends me to page 8. Tonight I tried it out with some other topic selections and the website consistently sends me to the next to last page of entries. This has only started to happen about a week or ten days ago. Has this been happening to anyone else?

    @songbirdme Glad you had a good time there. The throat is less swollen today, so maybe it is just allergies.

    @neilithicman and @funshipfreddie I totally missed seeing the pop ups! I’m really happy to see that you caught it and got them taken care of!

    @ccco That’s great about the weight loss! This is about the only activity where losing makes people happy!

    Interesting article about what happens if you stop eating all carbs. I can do it for a few days, but after long I get so I cannot think. Most strange sensation – something I cannot blame on getting old! 😀

    Another NFD, There’s been cake, so I can’t wait for Day 24’s FD!!!

    It’s certainly quiet on here this weekend, perhaps it’s that transition (UK anyway!) from summer to Autumn? Or maybe there’s been some stepping off of the wagon??

    Anyway, I’m going for a couple of LCHF days to start this week as it sets me up for easier FDs, which might be OMADs…………. we’ll see!!

    Well a long weekend but I’ve got all the gib stopping and sanding done on our renovations. Tomorrow I should be able to start masking it up and painting. I’ll definitely be happy when it’s all done.

    @ funshipfreddie – I sure hope we meet again in the final, because that would mean that you’d have knocked out Ireland for us in the quarter finals. They’ve had the wood on us the last couple of years and I would not be sorry to see them knocked out early 😉. Some good games so far, the France Argentina game was a good struggle.

    Another fast day and I hope this one brings me down closer to my low weight as I have gained about 3 pounds since starting maintenance.

    I’d like to go out for a walk today but I’m afraid of the biting mosquitos we have imported from some Asian country so I think I won’t. I’ve been bitten badly both times I’ve ventured outside in the last few weeks by the anklebiter mosquito. I hope they all die soon as it’s not a problem we have ever had before.

    I didn’t eat too much in the weekend but I did eat a lot of carbs which I don’t normally eat. As a result things are a bit windy at the moment 🌬

    Been MIA for a few days and it tells on my waistline!
    I certainly need the discipline of posting and accountability.
    Had 3 days of , well not exactly EFS – funeral, catering, friends, family, out to lunch , yikes – but not as controlled as I once was.
    Looking forward to a FD today.
    Going to start some serious resistance work. Plan to start slowly with sensible load and increase as able.
    Starting to feel fair, fat, flabby, female and fifty .
    What a way to start the week!.

    The day has gone well. I definitely have had more energy than I’ve for a week or so.

    @lilymartin With the stress of the funeral it would make sense to be gentle with yourself. MM mentions that it would be a good idea to forego fasting during illness and grieving is just as big a stressor as illness. What seems like detours in the WOL is still this WOL, just like when people are on a road trip and make a side trip to see a monument. They are still on the road trip. Here we are all tripping together! 😉

    @rafiki44 End of the season mosquitoes seem to be extremely aggressive. I’ve had them dive under my glasses and bite through the denim in jeans. Needless to say I seem to be a mosquito magnet.

    @songbirdme I’m in the same boat as you. I think that because I was feeling a little under the weather this last week, I wasn’t exercising as much as usual, and so I’m staying just above 172 which is my cut-off for maintenance.

    Day 23 Crete. I’m still in Crete!!! NFD

    Time seems to have stood still. I’m still away but going home soon. I decided yesterday that there’s no point beating myself up about putting on a bit of weight. That only makes me feel awful. I’ve decided to treat it as part of the ups and downs of life, and stop being horrible to myself. I decided to tell myself how lucky I am, instead, to be fit and healthy. Makes me feel better.

    BTW, I’ve just been re-reading The Joy of Not Working. If you ever need cheering up, it’s great. It really gives you a positive outlook on life. Highly recommended.

    @lizzy agatha! Quitting smoking and drinking at the same time? That takes some doing. Ignore the scales for a bit…

    Back fasting trying to erase the poor weekend choices but thinking realistically if I can socialise at weekends and lose a 1lb a week doing 2 FDs that’ll do

    Have been trying to fast, then something comes along to tempt me. I’m not too worried as my theory is that if I’ve cut out lunch then it’s not a bad.
    @matpi how did you come up with 59 bites as the right number?
    We drove near some wildfire sites but were advised not to take some roads because of the damage.
    There are still warnings around about the fires but I think the worst is passed.

    23 ….. Morning all been away on a cruise since 30th Aug…. back to it and very pleased with weigh in on Friday just gone, only 3lbs gained! Amazed really, far too much to eat and drink, but a lot of exercise, a couple of fast days last week helped.
    Fast day today and going to keep going through October, no real damage done!
    Hope everyone doing ok while I’ve been away.

    I seem to be stuck watching the ‘Food Network’ at the moment, I think I’ve developed a masochistic streak!!! Maybe watching will mean not eating, although there was a polenta dish earlier that almost had me licking the telly!!!!

    I’ve planned this weeks meals so I’m off to shred a cabbage & prep a head of broccoli for dinner. There will be no excuses this week, I’m only fooling myself after-all!!

    Day 24 – New Zealand – FD

    Successful fast day yesterday, I had a beef and avocado salad and then a salad with a couple of spinach, chilli and feta chicken sausages. Today is the second of my back to back fast days before my Wednesday weigh-in. I’m not sure this one is going to be as successful. It’s only 11am and it feels like it should be the middle of the afternoon. I’ve already had a coffee, a handful of cashew nuts, and a boiled egg and it really hasn’t hit the spot. Hopefully I can stay strong today and then enjoy my post-weigh-in NFD.

    The fast day has gone well.

    @suki2 To show you how the number 59 of bites (i.e. mouthfuls) was arrived at, let me go through the process with you. This is something I only do on NFD’s. My progress seemed to have stalled, even with fasting 2 days a week, and that’s when I began counting bites. One weighs in at the beginning of the first week and just counts the number of bites eaten each day. I usually just keep tallies for each meal separately and then add them up at the end of the day. At the next weekly weigh in, if one has lost a pound or more, then just keep at the same number of bites per day. If the weight lost is less than a pound, then during the next week eat one less mouthful at each meal. At the next weekly weigh in, use the same feedback process.

    I eat 5 small meals a day (each person can adapt to how many meals they usually eat.) and when I started counting my meal counts were 20-20-20-20-20. After using the feedback method they are now 13-13-10-13-10. Again I only do this on NFD’s. One thing that’s helpful about this is that even though I tend to eat the same type of meals each day, if I have to eat out, I don’t have to obsess about macronutrient ratios, etc. I just eat reasonably sensibly and maintain the target number of mouthfuls for that meal. I really like this flexibility.

    After doing this for a while I’ve discovered that on average one of my “bites” comes to around 30 calories. So the 59 bites comes out to 1770 which is considerably less that my TDEE, but is tailored to fit my personal metabolism in a way that the generic TDEE couldn’t do. Of course depending on a person’s mouth size and the type of food they regularly eat, the bite calorie count would probably be different. In a sense the exact calorie count isn’t important since the feedback process takes care of eating less automatically.

    This explanation has been a little long-winded. Hope it helps!

    @ Matpi – Counting bites is an interesting system to keep your food intake down, but surely that would require you to eat the same things pretty much all the time? 59 bites of junk food would be a lot more than 59 bites of salad. Forgive me if I’m not understanding the system entirely.

    That bite counting sounds like a trick my grandmother came up with in concentration camp during the war…eat with a teaspoon and chew everything 50 times, it feels like you are eating more.. @mapti

    @flourbaby I also get this, I’m reading more cookbooks and watching more cooking shows…odd that!

    PS I dared stand in the scales yesterday and I have LOST weight – I thought I would gain, having just quit smoking and drinking! (7 days now) I’m pleased

    Thank goodness it’s the 1st of my usual B2B2B FDs. I must stop using them to cancel out the 4 indulgent weekend NFDs!!

    I have a fridge & freezer full of salads & soups so I might make this a successful fasting week, as long as I can avoid the cashew nuts!! I’m not sure why I’m looking for comfort in food ……………………….. I thought I’d smashed that habit!!!

    The weather is pants, but I won’t be using it as an excuse to eat, I’m determined this week & I’m planning to check in daily with my results, so tomorrow I fully intend to report a successful 5-600kcal FD …………………………. Simples!!!!

    @brightonbelle & @izzy agatha …………….. I have to remind (fool) myself that if I made whatever I’m drooling over on the telly, it wouldn’t look anything like it does on screen!!!! That and pure laziness keeps it all in my head!!!

    Onward & Downwards folks, we’re nearing the finish line, so I suppose it’s time (finally!!) to knuckle down & give this challenge a BIG push!!!

    After yesterday’s fast day a check on the scales….the morning after returning from the cruise last week, I had put 6lb on, but by Friday had already lost 3lb. This morning another pound gone, hopefully by Friday this week, will be back to my lowest again! Then work at it through October to hopefully get near my first goal of losing two stone!

    Back from the most lovely time in Verona with an unexpected day in Venice thrown into the mix too! I am back to work today and tired from our weekend activities so couldn’t rally to face a FD today (although it is much needed!) Tomorrow is another day though….so fingers crossed I will have the strength of mind to tackle a FD….

    Doing pretty well — trying to eat mindfully, and really doing pretty well.

    Talked with a church friend who has lost 35 pounds drinking lots of water, 1200 calories a day, and she’s looking great. Eats lots of chicken she said! I still prefer how I did it at under 500 for 2 days and right about 1800 for 5.

    Got my desktop computer back … the car ride to the repair place must have fixed the loud fan issue! So, who knows what was up. Just glad to have it back.

    Making a zucchini & tomato melange for supper tonight. Gardens are bursting with beautiful veggies!

    My body doesn’t want to give up any weight for the cause, in fact I have gained 1kg. I am putting it down to my health, it’s frustrating but so be it. A surgery later this year should hopefully fix it finally. In the meantime I am giving myself a pat on the back, given up chocolate binging and back to daily meditation and sleeping well.

    It is great to read of others success though, I have been there in the past and will be there again.

    @songbirdme I would love to grow my own vegetables, there are fantastic farmers markets here so I have a load of delicious produce over summer.

    I’m back! The trip camping with my friend in PA was AMAZING! We had such a good time. She knows I’ve been fasting since February and she was interested in the process. SO we both fasted while we were camping. With ease too.

    I reached a new ATL -5lbs while on vacation (first time I’ve done that!)

    Really today may be a CD but I’ll work with the idea of FD until supper which may or may not be sushi. If it is – then CD. I mean really I need to be able to live a little. I just fasted/OMAD for like 5 days *not really even on purpose. It was just easy and I just went with the flow.

    Shoulder is doing good considering the injury is only about a weekend a 1/2 old. I ice it often and don’t put weight on it (except I noticed when I’m turning over in bed 1/2 asleep) need to work on an alternative way to turn over to not put excess weight on it right now.

    @snowflake56 and @songbirdme – yes I teach yoga with my arm in a fancy scarf sling that I make so that I don’t use it by accident. I’ve taught in a sling all last year b/c I sprained my wrist (that took 6months to heal!) So I’m hoping b/c I plan on being good that 2 whole months and I can hopefully begin to put weight on it.

    @rafiki44 – when I feel nausea while fasting – I first try just the small dash of pink salt under the tongue and 8oz of water right after. It usually takes all nausea away.

    @brightonbelle – I had/have to fast 3 days a week (b/c I am social on the weekends) and some weeks I fast 4 days M,T,W,Th and then have the weekend to eat and be merry. 2 days only keeps me steady but not losing weight.

    @flourbaby – I too had to switch to 4FDxB2B and just have 3 NFD on the weekend AND still make mindful decisions when it was possible to have something else. Like carrots instead of crackers… and that really helped me continue to lose weight.

    First is going quite well. No alcohol, usual breakfast and nectarine to keep me going mid afternoon. Just waiting on some fish in the oven. Should be around 600cals.

    @matpi thx for the explanation re the bites. Sounds really easy once you’ve got the basic info/stats. I may give it a go once I’m home. I think it would be useful especially over Christmas

    Weigh-in this morning and I was up 200 grams. But I am down a notch on my belt and I can start to see the outline of my abdominal muscles appearing so I’m not beating myself up too much about a minor blip, because I know it’s not fat gain. Also I’ve lost 3 kilos in the last 3 weeks so I was due a smaller week.

    Oh this has not been a good month for me! Been away with work and I find it a challenge to maintain my fast days then. But I know I’m making excuses.

    Roll on October. I’m giving up on this month.

    Have had shocking PMS and cramps the last few days. Have eaten more than usual as well, though sugar has been low, had a successful FD on Monday, and have fit a few gym sessions in – so I’m focussing on those positives.

    Have been very busy so not had much of a chance to read or post, but I’m thinking of the group.

    Hope the last few days of the September challenge goes well for everyone.
