  • Day 2, Emden Germany, NFD 💃

Just a quick check in today, busy day ahead.

    Have a nice day everyone!

Day 2 – Lake District UK – CFD

    Good morning everyone,

An unexpected FD yesterday and a reminder!

As part of my ongoing ‘adventure’ there are many side affects to the procedures I’m having done, so after a ‘phone call on Tuesday, yesterday was x-rays and visit to see a specialist dental chap.
I mentioned before I’m fascinated by the science, a new x-ray machine yesterday and the images it produced were amazing. Saw the consultant afterwards and after a long discussion the ‘Warthog’ left the building an hour later minus a couple of tusks!

Apparently if those molars had to be removed post treatment it would be quite risky, while they weren’t a problem at the moment we decided (with really good guidance/advice) to get rid now. The good news, unlike a normal trip to the dentist, this was a pain free (to the wallet) procedure.

The reminder and the answer to @stitchincarol …. water water water !

Yes I did it yet again yesterday, I keep falling foul of not remembering to drink enough! Well my excuse was I was somewhat distracted. But previously, out on long MOAM walks or just busy in the garden.
By late afternoon yesterday was feeling a bit grim, light-headed and thinking of going for a lie down. Suddenly realised, had coffee for breakfast, no lunch, coffee when I got home, NO WATER !

One quick glass, followed by a second and third at ten minute intervals! Magic stuff water, the ‘Inner Warthog’ was growling and I’m feeling fine! A bit daft for not realising, especially as each time after surgery recently I’ve used the magic potion straight from the tap to ‘wash out my system’. Within the hour I’m feeding the Warthog and back to ‘normal’.

The other good news, despite Mrs IHL building me up with excellent food ready for the next few weeks, my unintended FD yesterday has me back down at my lowest weight! So she can start again feeding me up…. And… and, the incredibly talented and wise consultant when talking about lifestyle etc said “Yes, an odd beer or two won’t do you any harm, anyway, you’ll know when not to have any!”

    What a start to October 🙂 😉

    Ooops, bethering on a bit

    Take care all

    Day 2 – Country NSW, Australia – 18:6/FD

So I kind of combined the two today and I’m think that I might give the Fast800 a go, we’ll see how the first week of 16:8(ish) goes.

I did get something wrong on my Day 1 post – I’m not 162cm (5ft3) as I thought, but instead I’m 168cm (5ft6), that’s what I get for forgetting my own height!!

But today wasn’t too bad, I did a quick shop before work and got some more ‘plastic’ lemon and lime (the juice in a bottle) and add like 3 or 5 drops to my litre bottle of water. I also got some black tea bags and lemon and ginger herbal bags… I know there’s debate on if that’s fast breaking or not but at 2 cal I think it’ll be OK on occasion. I also got a packet of Instant Miso Soup with Wakame bits in it, just add the sachet to cup boiling water and stir. Then this afternoon I dropped into another supermarket and got the makings for a nice tomato and vegie stew/soup which I’m going to throw in the slow cooker tomorrow.

Ended up having 3 cups of black tea before breaking my fast at noon with my Miso soup at a massive 28 cal! Plus I ate the last mini jam sponge roll that was starting to get a bit stale and I didn’t want to waste it – 127 cal there. Dinner was a zucchini and lentil stew that I made and froze – 185 cal.

Total Calories for the day was 340.

I also went to the gym after work where I weighed myself before the workout and I think I got a better idea of my ‘starting weight’ as when I weighed myself on Monday afternoon I still had breakfast and lunch in my system – I was 104.5kg then and today 103.5kg.

    Day 2, London, UK, NFD,

I’m still working on resetting and desperately trying to grab hold of my elusive mojo!!! This month will be a sober month as I think I need to avoid anything that saps my resolve and leads to poor decision making regarding food choices!!

    Happy fasting folks

    Day 2 – USA/GA – NFD

Well, I completed my first 4:3 this week. It was OK; going back to 5:2 next week. I like to feel I was training my body to trend low. No, I wouldn’t have hit any new record lows compared to the 5:2, but without doing the 4:3, I would have had six days between FDs, and I’m not on vacation/holidays anywhere haha! It was nice to hit the 241 lb. weight level three times this week (including this morning). I think I’m finally out of the mid 240s and on the edge of the 230s at last! Which reminds me, back at The 240s Club…

    ***

The bartender whispers something to her co-worker and folds up her apron, placing it behind the counter. She furrows her brows in an unfriendly look at my direction and walks past me into the ladies’ room. I spend a few uncomfortable minutes looking around. Lola was still in her seat, sipping on the water and looking generally confused. A few people were dancing, lots of folks were finishing up their drinks and having loud conversations over the music, but more and more patrons were starting to leave the club. In a moment, Wesley appears. “Have you found them yet?” “What do you think?” “What are you doing outside the ladies’ room?” My goodness, is Wesley really that dense? “I…” Suddenly, I’m cut off by a hard tap on the shoulder. I turn and see the bartender with hands on her hips. “No shoes. Would you mind moving away from the ladies’ room now?” “Yes, of course. Sorry.” Wesley sighs. “I wonder where she left them?” The bartender says, “where is she?” Wesley points at Lola with both elbows on the table, sleepily popping another peanut into her mouth. “Oh, her. She was the one dancing on the stage a couple of hours ago. We had to tell her to get down off the speakers. I’d check the dance floor again, if I were you. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to get back to work.” She turns back toward the bar. Wesley looks at me. “I already looked over there. I didn’t see anything.” I thought for a moment. “Yeah, but would you have thought to look on the stage?”

@i-hate-lettuce Increasing my water intake has been a bigger challenge for me than I thought. I really need to focus on that for this month.

@stitchincarol Gingerbread, homemade macaroni and cheese, chocolates, and pizza are going to be showing up. I have to think “moderation!”

Good luck to everyone on the pocket lists today!

Day 2 – Japan – WFD #78 (already 24 hours into this fast)

I’m feeling it a bit today, but I ran for the second time this week. On Wednesday my goal was just to complete 5.5km, which I did slowly. Today I took 2.5 minutes off the time. If I did that again I would be running near my top speeds, while since I started living in Japan. In high school I probably laughed at people running like I do now. My fastest 1km was only 5:33, so there is a lot of room for improvement. (Slowest was a 6:41, but that one is uphill almost all the way.)

On fasting I’m doing okay, still thinking of switching to one longer fast a week. My weight is okay, it moves around a bit but is staying in the low 80’s to upper 70’s kgs. So I’m maintaining. I’m pretty sure to get below 75 kg I would have to really back off on the workouts. Not sure I want to do that.

Day 2 Melb Aust FD became a CD

Sigh, I really should know better. Managed very well until the evening meal, then decided that instead of sticking to fluids, I’d have scrambled eggs and cheese with mixed vegetables (about 550 cals). That loosed the inner warthog, as @i hate lettuce says, and it took some discipline to actually stop at around 1300 cals. Note to self – If you really want a “proper” FD, you have to stick to fluids!

@missybear, I sympathise re regaining weight, but if I can lose again, so can you!

    Day 2 Wisconsin USA 16:8

Happy to report a successful Day 1. Eating was well within my TDEE. I completed an hour of
yoga and was able to walk in between rain showers. I aim for 10,000 steps a day but on a
day like today I was happy to log 8,000. I think biking will be difficult going forward because
of rain and cold. I may have to substitute another activity. I’m staying out of the gym for the
present time and I miss my indoor biking workout so much.

    Plan:
Practice 16:8 most days, while avoiding sugar and processed foods
Continue walking and daily yoga practice
Read and post daily on this forum

@songbirdme and @at (and maybe others I’m not yet aware of), happy to know you love yoga. I depend on yoga to guide me through challenging times, just as through challenging poses.

And, @at, I adopted your personal motto years ago. It’s brilliant.

@stitchincarol for me probably my holiday biscotti. I will carefully plan to have a few. Good idea to think ahead.

I’ve added myself to the ZBC and Exercise groups.

Had a lovely run this morning🏃‍♀️ for 49 minutes and came home and broke my 18 hour and 35 minute fast. Having a lazy afternoon as DH had his chemo this morning.

@at been looking at the walk via Brathay to Lily Tarn. If the weather is ok on Sunday we are going to give it a go.

I have been looking at an article about intermittent fast from a site call In the Fasting Lane and found this
    https://fastinglane.com/blog/2020/9/17/8-intermittent-fasting-mistakes-that-you-have-to-avoid?ss_source=sscampaigns&ss_campaign_id=5f7618d3d06311448ff014de&ss_email_id=5f76220be0ef706cae2acde1&ss_campaign_name=Welcome+Back+Amy+Berger%2C+and+the+Best+Bone+Broth+Deals%21&ss_campaign_sent_date=2020-10-01T18%3A38%3A50Z

I wouldn’t normally post something like this but thought it might help some of us that have/are struggling to brake things down and tackle a bit at a time rather than trying to do everything at once to get back on track then just feeling frustrated because we done succeed. I haven’t looked at the video yet just read the summary.

@flourbaby You were so supportive of me in September that I thought I would send you some

    It’s mojo not wine.

@northgeorgia I like to do 4:3 but this week found it hard and my third fast day turned into a NFD. I don’t know how I managed to do 12 weeks of Fast 800. I do hope Lola finds her shoes. They will be lurking with all the lost mojo.

@betsylee Fasting is so hard when you get the urge to have something to eat

    Day 2 UK NFD

Hang on in there @flourbaby You’ve been so supportive for lots of us recently I’m sure your mojo will be winging its way back any time now 💪

Good you got those pesky teeth sorted @i-hate-lettuce rang my dentist last week to see what the current state is , they don’t expect to be doing check ups until next year , better keep up with the flossing

I’m aiming for a mindful few days x

    Day 2 MN/USA. FD800

A quick check-in for now to get on the Lists and keep me motivated.

@flourbaby Hang in there….maybe try a controlled day and see where that takes you? I’m planning a Dry Fri today….I may have wine with family cookout on Sunday. Or maybe hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps would be more appropriate for our weather, since we will be on patio, but I do believe I will limit any alcohol to once or twice a week at most, weekends only.
@i-hate-lettuce I am also someone who “forgets” to drink water throughout the day. I drink coffee and tea and for some reason end up thinking I’ve had enough fluids, but it’s not the same, of course. That’s something I’m going to focus on this month.
@toady What a good start to your October!
@at Glad your gutters are done….I haven’t heard a word from the chaps who are suppose to do mine this week. Hmm, and they’ve gotten a down payment.

    Day 2 – Rural Nebraska, USA – Fast5

Yesterday’s FD took me down another few ounces; a scale dropping so rapidly and so steadily is not something I’ve experienced very often in my life, and it’s fun to watch it. So, of course, the first thing I did this morning was try on some skirts that have been too small for years. I’m getting closer on two that I particularly love!

@i-hate-lettuce, you are absolutely right in labeling that consultant “incredibly talented and wise”!! Does your tongue keep seeking out those missing tusks, and does it feel odd? How lovely to have such careful preparation for the upcoming treatment.
@toady, you’re doing really well, and I enjoyed reading your report! 💪 I had to chuckle at your revelation that you’re both taller and lighter than you thought; many of us wish to find we’re taller and lighter! 🤣🤣🤣
@flourbaby, there’ve been many months when my own mojo was nowhere in sight–that’s what got me to 17 pounds heavier than I am today. Just keep checking in and look for all the hands that are extended to pull you up on the wagon; it WILL happen!
@northgeorgia, how nice that you’re consistently at the low end of the 240s; I look forward to celebrating when you reach the 230s!
@dykask, I also can’t see the sense of cutting back on workouts in order to get to 75 kg or below; why do you want to drop that much lower? I would assume, given your excellent workout routine, that your BMI is excellent; is it not?
@betsylee, I imagine you’re frustrated with moving from 500 to 1300. I, on the other hand, am impressed that despite that inner warthog, you STOPPED at 1300! It’s the tiny progress that can be hard to notice, but I think stopping at 1300 is impressive indeed; it could have been far worse. So, congratulations!
@markie99, an excellent day 1, indeed. Are you working at weight loss or simply maintenance?
@kazoo, excellent run! You and @Dkyask should run together! 😉
@brightonbelle, so good to hear from you, and good wishes for excellent mojo.
@northerndawn, you’re right that limited alcohol really helps encourage weight loss; ever since I switched to DTF, I’ve seen a dramatic difference. Your hot chocolate with peppermint Schnapps sounds like something to anticipate, however!

We had frost last night, so it’s time to pick the rest of the tomatoes and make some salsa and get it into the freezer. And tonight our little village has a food truck coming that serves Bison Burgers and other sandwiches and is showing a movie at the village park. DH and I are looking forward to the evening.

Whatever is keeping you occupied today, I hope it’s fun and fulfilling and on point to your action plan!

    Day 2 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 NFD

Focusing on making healthy food choices. I also need to drink more water so thanks for the reminders. Today’s exercise has been energetic housework as we’ve had non stop heavy rain and the forecast for the weekend is more of the same so I may have to try a Leslie walk for the first time.

Still feeling optimistic for October, maybe my mojo is on it’s way home 🙂

Day 2 Murrells Inlet South Carolina NFD

Yesterday was a great fast day, under 500 calories and feeling good about that. It was tough getting thru it. It was much easier when I was working. So I bought some Mudra Cards for Healing and Transformation and starting doing them to pass the time.

So far today I only have had a light lunch. No snacking today. The weather is beautiful today but do to Coronavirus we don’t go anywhere except for short walks.

Do today’s duty, fight today’s temptation; do not weaken and distract yourself by looking forward to things you cannot see, and could not understand if you saw them. Do today what should be done. Your tomorrow may never come. Today is the pupil of yesterday.

    Day 3, Emden Germany, FD

@at I wanted to wish you a lovely dinner evening today but reading back your posts, I saw you ordered it yesterday. I hope you had a lovely evening with delicious food.

@northerndawn The new glazing is in. The large pane broke when they took it out but most of it fell on the terrace so not too much glass inside. We’re not finished with the workers yet, we’re having new flooring on the stairs and the upper hallway. They estimate it will take 5 days spread over 2 weeks to get it finished. I hope your gutter men will show up next week.

    Day 3 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – NFD

Sorry I am only joining the challenge on Day 3, but due to a combination of holidaying around Ireland with little if any WiFi, plus then catching up on the Salubrious September (fab hosting from @northgeorgia), well……her I am.

Thanks @Stitch-in-Carol for taking the reigns this month, and it is definitely a reset October for me.

I haven’t a clue what I weigh now and do not plan to weigh until Monday morning, (I am still officially on my Holidays and we had the twins 30th birthday celebration last night, and tonight have DD and DGD for dinner….so Monday will be weigh in, take stock, get set and reset.

Love the SMART goals….I have been having a tough time with weight gain since Covid and despite it all the dreaded Covid stone is my reality. Last time I checked I was at 151lbs. I hope I haven’t done too far north of that but my clothes tell me I have.

    October goals:
    Lose 5lbs
Lose an inch from my waist.
Keep daily food and exercise log and update nightly.
Update the Daily Tracker on the site every day
Leslie walk 4/5 times a week
Lunchtime walk 3/4 times a week
    DTF
Practice 4:3 and for one of them to be LFD
ZBC on Monday to Friday and follow 16:8
    3 litres of water daily
Cut the white carbs from my life
    Log in here every day

So lots of realistic and measurable goals there……all things I used to do but one by one along the way I dropped them.

I am off to the spreadsheet now and will update.

Good to see you all and looking forward to this reset October. This year of 2020 has been terrible on humanity, so we need to give ourselves the grace to pick up our positivity and move on.

D3 mindful NFD UK lake District

I have done a lot of exercise this week so taking a rest day from the exercise list today but will be joining @at @northerndawn @snowflake on the ZBC. Weather not so good today, it is drizzling with rain so will be a lazy day.
Had a successful FD800 yesterday, my third for the week so planning on a mindful NFD. Meals already planned.

@stitchincarol Every little helps. I have put my scales away for a while and am just using my clothes to guide me. Isn’t it lovely when you can get into clothes that you haven’t worn for a while.
I don’t do a lot of running and have to feel be the mood. It’s the sort of thing that I don’t look forward to doing but once I am out there and afterwards I get a buzz. When it is too cold to swim I plan to run more often.

@emma Taylor hope you are enjoying Greece.

    @flourbaby How’s it going?

@annabelle48 not seen a post from you for a couple of days are you ok?

@daffodil2010 Good to see you back. Hope you enjoyed your holiday.

@missybear I found ‘Leslie’ a few weeks ago and have been really enjoying walking with her on rainy days. If you scroll through her walks there are some easy ones, and some more challenging using resistance bands and also high impact if that is your thing. I feel that you do get a good aerobic workout. Let us know how you get on. Glad your mojo is on the way back. It’s strange isn’t it how it comes and goes for no apparent reason.

Day 3 – Lake district UK – NFD

    Good morning everyone

@daffodil – welcome back from your break, hope the Bimbling was not too taxing!

@stitchincarol – Yup, they’re all doing their best to prepare me, even if it keeps involving taking me apart bit by bit, they’re doing it very well! Not only that they’ve weighed me up very quickly (think it’s mentioned in the notes) very direct, no ‘oh dear poor you’ stuff.
More often than not we end up with a few laughs and they don’t treat me like a 6 year old (I hate when anyone does that, treat me like a 6 year old I’ll behave like one!)

Reverted to my good old ‘Friday off’ from this WOL yesterday. Was feeling good, so time to treat the ‘Inner Warthog’ …. Evening meal was a big veggie curry (not too spicy though) accompanied by beer while sat on the sofa watching recorded highlights of last weeks rugby!

Not managed a walk since last Sunday, a lot going on weekdays, but, despite Mrs IHL trying to build me up a bit weight has stayed down!
Having said that, our day to day diet is all home made and pretty impressive. I bake all our bread and do most of the prep and Mrs IHL does the making and tweaking, so between us pretty well sorted! Even made the Christmas cake over the last 2 days, yes 2 days to make it! No, it’s not that huge, day 1 sort, chop and mix fruit, soak in a tiny bit of rum (Caribbean Christmas Cake) Day 2 mix in spices etc and bake.

    Take care all

    Day 3 UK

Don’t what’s going on here. Posted yesterday but it seems to have disappeared. Also box for emails unticked itself, I re ticked and it has unticked itself again.

So here’s hoping it works this time.

In view of the above not a good start to October but food wise it is a slightly improving situation.
My mojo is still missing but I glimpsed it on Thursday and had my usual 4oz loss. I think it is hiding around the corner somewhere but not too far away.

Weather here is very wet and rather depressing. I have just finished knitting a jacket for my DD and yesterday did a whole load of apples for the freezer so plenty of pies and crumbles this winter.

Met a friend for coffee yesterday which was lovely. Am now going to start to read all your October posts to catch up on the news.

    TTFN

Day 3 – Country NSW, Australia – MFD

Only got a 16:8 today as the smell of the soup/stew that I was cooking was too good, had some just before 10am, so brunch I guess. That’s still classed as ZBC, right?

The stew was simple – a couple of bottles of Passata sauce, a few tins of chopped tomatoes, a stock cube, a kilo of winter veggies (carrot, beans, cauliflower and broccoli) and half a kilo of spinach cubes. I had brought a 1/3 head of cabbage for it but forgot about that until it was already done, oops!! Guess I’ll just have to make some more. But only 130 cal per decent sized serve. Ended up having 1.5 portions for brunch/lunch and even with the noodle bowl for dinner I’m under my 800 cal, so small wins there!!

Daylight savings starts here overnight, so I’ll be finishing my fast at 11 not 10 but it seems like my fasting tracker app has figured that out already.

But a bit of a TMI question – it’s normal to have loose 💩 movements in the beginning, right? Or maybe it was last night’s Zucchini and Lentil Stew.

@north Georgia – belated thank you for hosting last month.
@stitchingcarol – thanks for encouraging me to have a fast day. I’m intending to do one per week at least this month.
Will call in when I can.

    Day 3 – USA/GA – NFD

Today’s weigh in: 242 lbs. Very kind after the grazing pattern I was settling into yesterday. Shame shame! Joining the ZBC today. About to go get groceries on this very chilly morning.

    ***

Wesley and I return to the dance floor. We seem so out of place just strolling along the sides of the dark dance floor area, colorfully lit by pulsating lights. It is impossible to hear each other, much less see each other, thanks to the thumping bass coming out of the speakers. Wesley mouths, “there are the steps to the stage.” I follow him up to the top. We stoop down low, scouring the stage for any sign of Lola’s shoes. We must look like alley cats, creeping along, our backs arched down low, our necks bending left and right, trying to spot anything about that size. Wesley picks up something, then shakes his head. “Beer bottle.” After a couple of minutes, we stand up and look left and right. Just as I was about to think this whole situation was hopeless, I see something just ahead. “Wesley, look. On top of the speaker!” There on the far right of the stage was a very wide speaker, probably the very one Lola was caught dancing on top of. Vibrating in rhythm to the music on this speaker sat a pair of glossy black women’s shoes. We make our way over on the stage and grab the shoes. Suddenly, the music stops. Just as Wesley holds up the pair of shoes in celebration, a bright spotlight shines on Wesley and me. The room fills with applause! Lola is also hooting and hollering from the back. “Now, what?” I whisper.

    Day 3, London, UK, CD

Late start today, the leaky roof has returned with a vengeance, mopping up & positioning buckets into the wee hours. I’m thinking of buying an ark!!!

@kazoo, @brightonbelle, @northerndawn, @stitchincarol, thanks for thinking of me & I appreciate the mojo delivery, I’ll take any spare mojo going!!! I know myself fairly well and can sense that the urge to self-sabotage or binge is very near the surface, there’s only one option ………………………… keep on keeping on!!! Weirdly enough, I’m still losing weight without truly fasting, I think I’m more controlled, perhaps leaning towards HFLC well below TDEE due to satiety and certainly giving the demon drink the swerve!!! I want to fast properly though as I really enjoy the sense of control and lightness I get after a FD, that PFDS I guess!!!

I completed my 1st walk with Leslie yesterday after a rather long break, another falling off of the wagon event!! When I found her in April, I was desperate for something to occupy my lockdown time and the boost to my wellbeing was immense, so I’m back on the walks x 4-5, yoga x 1 and Pilates x 3 per week, that should keep me too busy to think of eating & help get me back into those skinny jeans!!!

Happy fasting folks, we really don’t have another option!!!!

    Day 3 – Second post

Post it notes are ideal for all sorts of situations …..

Anyone looking for your Mojo, get a post it note….

Write on it ‘Your Mojo is not in here’ ….. stick it on fridge door!

Is also good for wine cupboard, biscuit box and several other places 😉

Day 3 Wisconsin USA 16:8 CD

There is something wonderful about the accountability that this group brings to me. Plan met on Day 2. Ate below my TDEE, avoided sugar and processed foods, and best of all did not eat between meals. Activity was a challenge because of intermittent rain but I managed. I have to toughen up, because from now on the weather gets colder and wetter. I officially cancelled my weekly outdoor yoga class. Sad about that, but enjoying my own practice.

@stitchincarol, to answer your question, I was in maintenance for a couple of years after losing 15 pounds using IF. Since March, much of that weight has slowly returned. I want to lose a pound a week in October and 15 pounds total by our hoped for vacation in April.
@Ihatelettuce, post its are a great mojo suggestion – Thanks.

    Plan for Day 3:
Practice 16:8, avoid sugar and processed foods
    Eat under my TDEE
Continue walking and daily yoga practice
    ZBC and Exercise

Good luck to everyone, whichever plan you are following today.

    Day 3 – Rural Nebraska, USA – Fast5

Well all of yesterday’s plans changed on a dime: the food truck wasn’t last night but is tonight (which we didn’t find out until we went to get our food and no one was there!), and the peaches for my Smoked Peach Honey Poblano Salsa were hard as a rock, so I’ll have to stall until tomorrow afternoon when the peaches will be ripe enough. Today I drive to Omaha to teach a lesson and run errands, so that bison burger tonight will be a real treat!

@missybear, I’m so impressed at your energetic house-cleaning. Do you hire out? Fancy a trip to Nebraska??? 😉 And did you do a Leslie walk and fall in love with the program like so many of us?
@diana123, many of us have discovered that keeping busy all day is a big part of a successful FD. Good luck with finding a routine that keeps you distracted on FDs!
@snowflake56, such a pity the window broke, but at least it was mostly outside. It sounds as if your home is going to be really lovely once all the work commotion is over!
@daffodil2010, welcome back, and enjoy your dinner with DGD and DD tonight! You have some solid action goals in that list; well done!
@kazoo, glad you’re enjoying Leslie; I’m truly thankful to this group for introducing her to me. You’re so faithful about outdoor exercise and I am in awe at your discipline!
Ooooh, @i-hate-lettuce, your Christmas Cake sounds lovely! Do you have a link to a recipe? I’ve been thinking I wanted to do something like that this year! (And I had to chuckle at your disdain of an “oh, poor you” attitude: a nurse did that to me non-stop while I was in labor with child #3 and I hissed at DH to “GET HER TO SHUT UP!” I’m generally reasonably mild mannered, but it’s hard to persuade yourself you’re doing great when someone’s in the room sympathizing in a hand-wringing manner! LOL) ((TMI???))
@annabelle48, glad to hear from you. Well done on finishing the sweater and getting the apples into the freezer; that’s always a satisfying feeling, isn’t it?
@toady, I think our waste does indeed go through changes when we make such dramatic changes to our diet, so you’re clearly doing good things. The soup sounds lovely and easy!
@suki2, I hear you about no alcohol meaning you sleep better. I know that, and yet I allowed myself to share a third (a THIRD!) beer with DH last night, and paid for it and the poor eating with poor sleep. I woke up thinking I never again want alcohol, LOL! That, of course, will fly out the window once this evening rolls around, but I must remember how awful my nights are when I over-eat and over-drink. Good luck with finding an occasional FD in your holiday, since it helps you sleep better!
@northgeorgia, I too was thankful only to be up a pound after the nibbles of yesterday…Marcona Almonds with Rosemary, from Trader Joe’s was my downfall; what was yours? I’m enjoying the story!
@flourbaby, serious sympathy to you for the still-leaking roof!! But what great news to contrast with it that you’re still losing weight; well, well done!
@i-hate-lettuce, great tip for post-it notes!!
@markie99, your plan sounds spot-on for losing a pound every week; well done for the successes so far this week!

@stitchincarol – recipe link re Caribbean Christmas Cake, re named after we’d been on a Caribbean cruise and brought back loads of spices.

However, Mrs IHL uses ordinary rum (not spiced) and tweaks the spices, using extra vanilla essence as well as vanilla bean paste. We’ve had this instead of ‘traditional’ Christmas cake for a while, it’s much lighter ….. and with all that fruit, has to be healthy 😉

She also uses a square tin instead of round, easier to cut smaller pieces!

    Day 3. OMAD. Stoupa. Greece

Just arrived here. Never heard of it until we were casting around for an alternative to Crete. It’s pretty idyllic, and our Airbnb is about ten yards from the beach. I’ve never seen clearer, bluer water. I can see why people try to keep it quiet.
OMAD is going fine. I don’t usually eat until about 7 pm, but alcohol consumption, while not too bad, is putting pounds back on. My one and only aim this month, after I get back, is to go back on the DTF wagon. When I was doing that and OMAD it was like watching a fat suit deflate. 😢😢😢😢
Oh, and like a few others, to up my water intake. It’s so simple but I forget!!!!

    Day 3 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 NFD

Rain today not so heavy as was forecast, more heavy drizzle than rain, and I have weather proof clothing so I managed an outdoors walk….I am saving my meeting Leslie for a day when I can’t get out as being outdoors cheers me up and lightens my mood.

@stitchincarol I am no domestic goddess and only do housework when I need to so getting it done quickly whilst burning calories is win, win, win with the prize being a clean house. I would still like to visit Nebraska…….but just to eat a bison burger and drink beer with you 😉

@i-hate-lettuce if my mojo isn’t in a wine bottle (you sure??) or in the fridge I am hoping it might be in a book I’m about to read. Tim Specter’s The Diet Myth previously motivated me to make good food choices so I’m hoping his new book Spoon-Fed will fill me with renewed inspiration 🤞

@daffodil2010 I am also battling against an upward trend. At least we are still here……hate to think what would happen if I abandoned 5:2. Enjoy the rest of your holiday and then join us for a Reset Monday FD

Keep on keeping on everyone 🤗

Day 3 second post 16:8 (turned out to be 18)
Just jumping in to say I completed my daily yoga practice (my own class) and broke my fast with lunch after 18 hours.
Lunch was one of my favorites: a plate of sliced fruits and vegetables (just a few each of carrot slices, cucumber slices, watermelon cubes and grapes), three small cheese cubes (gouda) a sliced hard-cooked egg with half-sharp paprika, and a small handful of raw unsalted almonds and walnuts. And tea (hot tea today).
This will more than do for me until dinner tonight which will be grilled lemon shrimp with pasta, one of my OH’s favorites. My serving will be smaller than his.
Still have some walking to get in, and of course I have to stick to my eating window and not eat between meals or after dinner. Feeling strong.
@i-hate-lettuce, thanks for the mojo post its suggestions. @missybear, I have to do what you did when it rains – just bundle up and go. @emma-taylor, I love what you said about doing DTF plus OMAD and then watching a fat suit deflate. When I weigh more than I want to, as I do now, I feel like I’m in a suit that’s not mine. The idea of it deflating is so motivating.
Thanks everyone. So happy I came back to this forum.

    USA. Day 3. CD

Better late than never! I’ve gotten so busy lately that finding a moment to check is hasn’t been easy! Anyway, I am back for October. I hope everyone had a lovely day.

    Day 3 USA (Illinois) NFD

Quick check in before day finishes. Keeping at maintenance. Hurrah.

    Onward and downward.

Day 4 – Country NSW, Australia – MFD

Started the morning off (well 9am) by doing half an hour weights and row machine at the gym. Weighed myself beforehand and 102kg, meaning a 1.5kg (6lbs) loss since the start of the month. I’m happy with that! Fast was due to break at 11 instead of 10 due to daylight savings starting but didn’t really notice the difference.

Made another batch of stew, this time including the half a head of cabbage which made 11 servings this time and brings it down to 110 cal per serve (which is pretty much my Sistema microwavable soup mug full). Had a banana to break my fast – another 16:8 today, then when the soup was done around noon I had the leftover bits which was half a serving. Another banana after a 20 minute lazy stroll around the block around 3pm and just had a microwave ‘Butter Chicken’ which still got me under my 800 cal for the day and started my next fast half an hour early.

Damn I’m craving some chocolate and almost went for the choc oaty bar, but resisted cause it meant I could have my Butter Chicken for dinner instead of soup.

Hope it’s OK that I’ve started the lists for today

@stitchincarol It is a lovely house, we really like living in it. We bought it 8 years ago, it was in it’s original 1956 state. We like old and tattered houses, clean looking and open plan is not our thing. It’s just a pity we need workers for the things we can’t do ourselves. Today we’re ripping out the old linoleum so I can sand the doorposts and perhaps paint them when time allows (I don’t think it will).

Day 4 – Lake District UK – NFD

    Good morning everyone

Strange days, weekdays are just disappearing quickly, yesterday was glad to be a ‘home day’ despite really needing to get out for a walk!
However, did my kitchen labourer bit for Mrs IHL and she made jars of mint and apple jelly ready for a fundraiser, the home made mincemeat is also finished (another 2 day job) and the jars in storage. No idea where the day went, how often that seems to happen at the moment, so this morning we are going for a wander!

The Christmas (food) preparation has started, the cake is already made, the ‘old family recipe’ puddings are next on the list ….. my only concern is (due to restrictions) instead of the 5 of us there may only be 2. The good news is I should have finished treatment by then and will need ‘building up’ so the Warthog could have a field day!

The Den Brewery ‘beer stock’ cupboards have an excellent selection, some of which are now being set aside as being rather good and some even exceptional! One batch is currently in the fermentation vessel ready for bottling end of next week. After that an experimental Wheat Beer, which will possibly be my last brew for a little while.
I only brew in 15 litre batches these days, so I can ring the changes and my neighbours are very willing testers so I can indulge my hobby and brew more frequently!

    Take care all.

    D4 NFD UK Lake District

Another good non fast day yesterday and my kitchen closed around 6.15pm. I find that if I eat earlier in the evening, I get more fasting hours in as I still eat lunch around the same time each day. I have decided to go back to basics and have got my Michael Mosley books out so pulled pork today at DH request. I have been using his recipes on FD’s and the modifications for NFD’s. I have been calorie counting everything. It has helped me get some portion control back. I am continuing with TRE mainly 18:6 and not snacking between meals. It is amazing how in control this has made me feel. Long may it last.

We are off for a hike after lunch provided the weather holds out so I will put myself on the exercise list today.

@annabelle48 I had that problem a few weeks ago but it has settled down now. Sometime is happens if you move off the page. What I did was came out of the website and then when in again . Hope it helps. It is annoying to lose posts.
I also use a word document and copy and paste so that I don’t lose it completely, this is a tip I picked up from someone one here.

@i hate lettuce Glad you are holding your weight. Thanks for reminding me it is Christmas cake making time. I have ordered my christmas cake ingredients on my next Sainsbury’s shop.
Keeping busy is a good thing. Mrs IHL is a gem. Your treatment will fly past, I wish you well and then just let the Warthog out and and should you need to remember the post its.

@northgeorgia Welcome to the ZBC. It is a habit really missing breakfast. for me some days are better that others.

@flourbaby Take up swimming. It’s great you are still losing weight, you must be doing something right.

@stitchincarol Did the food truck turn up? It’s going to be a busy day for you today.

@emma Taylor Are you sea swimming?

@Markle99 Your lunch sounds lovely. I will give it a go on a FD

@songbirdme Well done on keeping at maintenance I am hoping to join you soon. I was there in January but have really struggled to hold my weight since.

It’s 3am and I’ve been awake since 1am. I sure miss the days of putting my head on the pillow, falling asleep, and staying that way until I was forced to wake up, LOL!

The bison burgers were a fun treat, and a lovely thing to anticipate all day yesterday. Today will be French Toast, sausage and fresh fruit for brunch, and Schwarma Chicken and a green salad with pear dressing for supper.

@i-hate-lettuce, thanks for the link! I’m off and running with plans on making that for our big Christmas celebration with family in California. Either that or a traditional English Christmas Pudding. (The flames of it appeal to me, LOL.) Can everyone weigh in on which you all like better?
@EmmaTaylor, your vacation sounds glorious; enjoy that sun and relaxation for all of us!
@missybear, I’d love to share a bison burger and a beer with you; let me know when you’re getting close and I’ll give you details on how to find my house!!!
@markie99, we’re glad to have you back with us, and you sound like you’re entirely on track; well done!
@ccco Welcome back, you busy woman! We’ll look forward to more chatter when/if you have time.
@songbirdme, as I look back over my own journey with weight, I know that maintenance is no small accomplishment, so if you’ve not heard this late, CONGRATULATIONS! on maintaining!
@toady, it’s absolutely okay for you or anyone to start the lists, and you’re doing a splendid job of getting and staying on track.
@snowflake56, pulling out linoleum sounds like a good choice, but sanding and painting doorposts? Hmmm….LOL! I’m with you; I probably wouldn’t ever “have time,” either!
@i-hate-lettuce, I do so hope you get to have all five of you there for Christmas; your food preparations sound lovely! We bottled our two batches of beer last Monday, and are eagerly anticipating the drinking of them in another week or so. If they’re as good as I think they’ll be, we’ll be brewing another 5gallon batch right away before we get too busy with fall activities.
@kazoo, it’s wonderful to hear how well you’re doing; long may it last, indeed! And, yup, the food truck was there, along with a second for hot chocolate and hot cider (which DH and I skipped). It was fun to see so many people in our village turn out to get food from them; I do love rural small-town living!

Okay, perhaps I’ll be able to sleep now–I need to be up and headed to church by 8 this morning, so I’m quickly running out of hours to sleep, LOL!

    Have a grand day, everyone!

    Hi everyone

Checking in from London Uk, I’m mid thirties

    I started the fast 800/16:8 on 27th July 2020.
My starting weight was 14 stone 2.6 lbs or 198.6 lbs
    By 19th September I was 12 stone 10.4 lbs/ 178.4 lbs
So I lost 20 lbs in my first 7 weeks
And that’s the lowest weight Iv been for about 6 years!

I was always 10-10.5 stone or 140-147 lbs until I hit my 30s had a burn out at work and my dad passed away, and I’d love to get back to hanging around my previous set point.

BUT I had the last two weeks off, I had a wonderful holiday, and I think we all deserve a holiday after this crazy year! But I ate and drank what I liked and didn’t track. I mostly ate healthy meals like fish and salad but also added plenty of crisps, ice cream and wine and no exercise except a bit of swimming.

So Technically this is week 10 of my Fast 800 but I’m not counting the last two weeks so I’ll call this week 8.

I really want to get back on the wagon now in home and bring back all the good habits I was building over summer and keep up with the progress I was making

I haven’t weighed myself since coming back from the holiday, as I know from experience I can put on up to 9lbs (!) of pure water/sodium weight over a weekend when I drink alcohol and eat carbs, but that it soon goes back down quickly when I’m back on healthy eating.
So I’m planning to weigh in at the end of this week,
Iv put my sept 19th weight in the spreadsheet so hoping Iv not done too much damage to that!

I’m on a mission between now and Christmas, if I can lose another 20 lbs that would be incredible, although I know the weight sometimes comes of faster in the beginning, I want to do my best and be realistic.

Summer can be an easy time to lose weight, I was eating salads every day in the lovely summer heat
In Autumn and cold weather I enjoy comfort food
So I think I’ll need to think carefully and plan meals that are satisfying and low calorie.
Also I can struggle with mental health in the winter so need to take extra care of myself.

My goals for October are to go back to my formula that worked in the first 7 weeks:
    – Get back on the wagon: be able to look back at the end of the month and be proud of my efforts
    – Plan meals out each week and do a ‘big shop’ each week so I have the healthy food I need stocked up
    – Track fast 800 calories daily in my fitness pal
    – 16:8 IF
    – Take Supplements: ACV and green tea extract to support weight loss/ vitamin D to support mental health and happiness/ vitamin C for immune system as we head into cold and flu season
    – Sober for October: I know alcohol knocks me off track, reduces willpower and productivity and it’s a depressant
    – Reintroduce exercise/stretching 30 mins a day: I know fat loss is 90% nutrition, I also think exercise helps support the process, regulate hormones and makes me feel amazing
    – Meditation daily: to support mental health and mindful choices, I’m starting an online course next week, this has helped me a lot in the past with lots of areas of life

Thank you all so much for contributing to this community and mutual support
Writing this out publicly has really helped me process my thoughts and what I need to do next!
Look forward to checking in and seeing the progress we all make together 🙌🏻💫😊

    Day 4 – second post

Welcome, @bellalondon, we’re delighted to have you with us! Your thoughts sound well balanced, practical and very doable, and we’ll be delighted to cheer you on as you take the steps you’ve chosen!

    Day 4 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – NFD

Had a sneak peek at the scales…Oooh. Holiday weight gain for sure but I have plans in place and lots of mojo starting tomorrow

Weather is AWFUL right now, usually I would have had a walk done by now, but it’s turning into a lazy Sunday already at 9.45am!!

    Until tomorrow my forum friends.

    Day 4 OMAD Stoupa Greece

@kazoo, and @stitchincarol, thanks for your comments. I am sea swimming. I don’t usually get up that early these days but the sun comes up here just after 8, and I was awake, so I went down to the beach – all of about twenty steps, and had a swim with the beach, and the sea to myself for about 45 minutes, in the early morning light. It was just the best thing ever. It is like heaven here. Maybe pretty quiet out of season, and bonkers in season, but now…

    Day4 UK

Not doing very well so far but I live in hopes for improvement.
No huge gain just coasting along. Don’t think the weather helps as my body senses the approach of cold weather and is trying to get into the stocking up mode.
@stitchincarol your SMART makes a lot of sense and I am trying to concentrate on the Action part and linking it to consequences…….if I do that then this will be the result. Maybe that will help but only just arrived at that thought so time will tell.

In the meantime will just keep on keeping on.

    TTFN

    Day 4 UK NFD

Last check in for a week or so , off to Rome tomorrow will have a read WiFi/time permitting . I’m aiming to be mindful but won’t be fasting . Weight wise I’m in a good place but I definitely don’t want to undo all my many months of good work in one short splurge so we’ll see how it goes , if I can weigh in at the end of Oct at today’s weight I’ll be ok if I can drop a lb or 2 even better See you all soon x

    Day 4, London, UK, NFD

Up and out early this morning to the supermarket, I kept repeating “Don’t buy anything you don’t intend to eat” …………………… so I substituted prosciutto, olives, salami, baby Pomodoro, pickles, Chaource, Gouda, Cheddar, a fabulous Manchego & pastrami for the bread, chocolate, crisps & biscuits calling my name!!! I spent a fortune!!! Quality food that’s actually good for you is so much more expensive than the pre-packages refined stuff we’re addicted to, which piles on the pounds and costs next to nothing ……………………… why is all the crap in the BOGOF or ½ price offers?????

So pleased to still get my daily updates from the Lakes @i-hate-lettuce, even if I’m missing the descriptive walks or wanders!!! I’m waiting for them to resume with better weather, I thought I was in the Lake District myself this morning, as I sailed my car through numerous flooded areas!!!

@emma-taylor & @brightonbelle, I’m soooo jealous!!! It’s probably a good thing I’ve no plans to get away anytime soon, since my mojo is taking a break, a trip to Italy or Greece could only end in disaster, weight-wise of course!!! Have a great time!!!

Welcome @bellalondon, great results in under 2 months!!! You’ve come to the right place for unconditional support & advice!!!

    Stay strong folks ……………………………….

“You can find inspiration from others, but determination is solely your responsibility”

Day 4 Wisconsin USA 16:8 CD
I posted a second time yesterday with my eating success, so I’ll post my failure now – I didn’t walk much at all yesterday other than a brief walk to the market and back, mostly because of the sporadic rain but chiefly because I was feeling a little lazy. So, today my plan has been updated re:steps to make it more specific.

I usually weigh every day but I’m waiting until a week into this challenge to see if I’ve met my goal of a pound loss a week. Feeling good though.

@stitchincarol thank you for your encouragement – it’s appreciated.
@kazoo I like your back to basics approach.
@bellalondon welcome and keep posting – you will find encouragement and support here.
@annabelle48 good luck today. You can do this.

    Plan for Day 4:
Practice 16:8, avoid sugar and processed foods
    Eat under my TDEE
Walk at least 8500 steps and daily yoga practice

Rocking scales again this morning between 241 and 242 lbs. I chose 241 because 1. yesterday was similar, although today the highest I could rock the scales was 242.0. After a naughty day of a little snack past 8 p.m. (OOPS) and having four slices of pizza in the evening (the hunger dragon was released), if my body could still manage a 241 after that, then it deserves it! My sins may show up at tomorrow’s weigh in, though. LOL

One thing that may be helping is the temperature. I like to sleep in a cool room anyway (and I love having the ceiling fan on, which right now is still pushing cooler air downward), and the temperatures have been between 4 to 10 degrees Celsius (38 to 50 F) in the mornings over the past few mornings. I keep the heat on at around 20 C (68F). I have read where being cold but not shivering may actually induce fat to be used for energy/heat: https://abcnews.go.com/Health/cold-lose-weight/story?id=54631686

Will this be the week that I leave the 240s Club?

    ***

The spotlight is so bright, it takes a moment to make out Wesley’s outline next to me on the stage. A crowd of about forty continue to cheer and applaud. Suddenly, the brightness dims as one of the spotlights strikes a woman in a grey Stetson hat walking up the steps onto the stage. She has a guitar strapped over her shoulder and is wearing a flannel plaid shirt with a pair of Levi’s. The clomp-clomp of her cowboy boots carry her over to a chair in the front middle of the stage. She smiles at us and motions for us to join her. “Come on over here, boys!” A familiar instrumental rhythm from the 60s starts to pour from the speakers. “Y’all want to see these fellows dance?” The crowd goes crazy. What is actually happening? The cowgirl prepares her fingers for the right cords on the guitar and sits down in the chair. She begins to strum and mouths the words “dance” to us. I look at Wesley, still holding up Lola’s shoes, as he begins to sway left to right. The cowgirl sings, “you keep saying you’ve got something for me…” The crowd gets loud and you can’t really hear anything but bass for the next few seconds. When it subsides, the singer is at the chorus and I recognize the song: “These boots are made for walking, and that’s just what they’ll do. One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you!!!” Wesley stops his attempt at a dance and freezes in place as he stares at the shoes he’s holding in his hands. The crowd bursts into uncontrollable laughter, but none more than Lola, who seems to have made a remarkable recovery, now standing, doubled over with snorts and giggles in the very front row. Turning red with embarrassment, Wesley angrily tosses the shoes to the floor, whereupon Lola catches them, slips them on, and continues to dance to Nancy Sinatra’s hit. We make our way off the stage, publicly humiliated as the cowgirl calls out after us, “where are you going boys?” A chorus of guffaws trail us.

I will be rejoining the ZBC tomorrow complete with a FD. Let’s see if we all make it to the front door of the club. I don’t think I can take much more! Haha

Good luck to everyone on the pocket lists today!

Heading off to DDs for family get-together; she has made a “Guinness Pot Roast” and it is usually wonderful. We will be out side most of the time, so maybe a short two hour visit since the temps are fairly chilly today.

@snowflake56. The gutter people showed about mid afternoon Friday to deliver materials and piled them on the lawn. The delivery man didn’t really know much, so after a couple calls I have found out they will start tomorrow morning bright and early. Today, prior to going to daughter’s, we will be prepping the perimeter of the house for their scaffolding, and putting up some temporary window coverings (for privacy) over the large windows to the south. We generally have none, as we are surrounded by woods and garden there without any views of neighbors. I hope we all get the work done on our homes soon! Then we can actually enjoy the beautiful Autumn.

@emma-taylor Your morning of solitary time with the beautiful beach and ocean sounds absolutely divine.

@stitchincarol I hope you got a little more sleep!

    @bellalondon Welcome!

Enjoy your Sunday, everyone……..I’m on all of the lists tomorrow!

Day 4 Murrells Inlet South Carolina CD

Well it worked I was so busy yesterday as everything I have been ordering for the new house seemed to arrived yesterday. Lots of decorating to keep me busy this week.

This morning was busy too. Had to take the dogs to the groomers one a time. Now time to relax and prep our dinner. Overcast today but still plan to grill up some beef kabobs with lots of vegetables. No rice for me today as I had Chinese delivered for dinner last night and was able to stay on track with portion control. Already prepped Monday’s fast day meals. Kale and sweet potato soup, hard boiled eggs ready for the week and the fridge is full of fresh veggies.

    Enjoy you Sunday everyone.

    Day 5 – Japan – WFD #79

The Friday fast went well but I probably overeat some on the weekend.

I’m thinking seriously of going to one longer fast a week. I’ll probably do that when I feel safe to do so. I’m just not sure if I could do it it week after week. It is harder to maintain fasting when the weight isn’t so much of an issue. In that regard though, fasting does work. When one isn’t eating, weight is lost given enough time.
