  • Hiya!

I’m Gemma, 21 years old and a bit overweight. (Not going to go into how much..just yet)

I’m not somebody who often does ‘fad diets’ but I’ve been struggling to just eat healthily with out any thing to follow at all so I thought I would try this out!

I’m on my first day and haven’t eaten yet. Saving my calories for an evening meal? I’m pretty hungry but not toooo bad.
Is it best to do it this way or to have little bits through the day? Or does it not matter?

    Thanks everyone!

    Gemma

@gemmalouisenorth You just do things the way it suits you best and fits into your life. It often helps at the beginning to have 3 small meals totalling 500 cals on your fast days until your body gets used to having less food. You can then extend the length of time between meals. trying to go too long without food in the early days can make this way of eating – I wouldn’t call it a ‘fad diet’ by any means – more difficult and can put you off persevering with it.

I didn’t mean to say this was a fad diet, sorry, phrased it wrong 🙂
Thanks for the advice. Looking forward to my evening meal tonight!!

I wasn’t criticising. No need to apologise 😀

    Hi Gemma
I moved home from uni last september, a 20 ibs heavier than I went to uni as and so hopped on the 5:2 bandwagon around the end of october. I lost a stone in two months! I found it easier to split up my calories as it stopped me thinking about my evening meal all day. I either went about this by having 5 100 calorie snacks every 2 hours or by having a banana or some special k with a low fat yoghurt for breakfast then a massive salad with nothing else or a weight watchers soup for lunch, and then for dinner I would usually be irresponsible and spend the remainder of my calories of a packet of low calorie popcorn or something because at the end of the day, I would rather that than another salad. I also discovered the Hartleys 10 calorie jelly pots which are amazing crave busters. Anyway, I found it hard over christmas and put on a few pounds so I’ve started again this week. I’m doing 4:3 for february just to force myself to accept that this is what I’m doing and I’m hoping to lose 1 ib a week until I reach my goal weight which I’ve worked out could be by June. I’d love you to keep me updated on your progress! 🙂 I’m keeping a blog to keep me motivated, you could do something like that too?

Thanks for your help! I’m currently at uni and put on so much weight since coming. It’s getting me down sooo much 🙁 I hope this works for me. I just don’t want to give up as I don’t have alot of will power and none of my flatmates are interested in dieting with me.

I will try those Jelly Pots and a blog sounds like a really good idea! Whats yours called?

Next fast day I will try splitting it up abit more!

Yeah uni seems to do that to people, I always said I wouldn’t put on weight at uni but low and behold I sure as hell did.

It’s http://mytwothousandfourteen.tumblr.com/ Yesterday was my second fasting day of the week and tomorrow will be my third. Join the gym if you can, I HATED the gym but it makes you feel better. I’ve only just crept out of the overweight category so still not feeling too good but hopefully in a few months I will and you will too 🙂

hi Gemmalouisenorth and welcome to the forum!!

good luck on your journey and happy fasting 🙂

    Hi and welcome:

Most just starting try to eat at least three times a day because that is what they are used to. As they become familiar with fasting, they learn there is nothing life threatening in skipping a meal or two. Many eventually migrate to eating one meal in the evening on their diet days. Try them all, one will work for you.

Here are some tips as you are just starting: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/warnings-to-newbies/

    Good Luck!

    Hi,
I am new to this too. Just about 3weeks in and I have to say that I really don’t feel that hungry on fast days. My body just seems to accept it now and not “panic” that the food stops coming for a few hours 2days a week.
I have been having porridge and a chopped banana for breakfast skip lunch and have soup for dinner. But today “Fast day” I skipped breakfast and had soup and a banana at work then homemade soup for dinner. I felt a lot more sociable going to lunch as I had been avoiding leaving the office at lunch time of fast days.
I would suggest just to try different ways and see what works best for you.
I also find keeping busy keeps my mind off food.

    Best wishes and Good luck.

I am joined up to the gym, before christmas I was going regularly and doing a mix of 5k training and weights. Since then I have slacked and I’m ashamed to say I’ve been once since coming back from my skiing holiday over Christmas. I will get back into it though!!

    Hiya!

So glad this forum exists I feel I will need the support. I do not have great long term willpower 🙁
    xx
