  • Hello everyone, I am new to this way of eating and lifestyle and I am excited to join all those of you who inspire each other via this platform.

I have lost 13 kilos via various diets and was not able to stick on to it as I realized that what I needed was a way of life – not a temporary short term quick-fix. I think that is what the 5:2 offers and I am keen on making it a success.

I have another 20kilos to go – which scares me but yes, I can do it and I will…slowly and steadily and sensibly. I would love to hear from you and will support you in turn.

Cheers to all our effort to getting healthy!

Morning la dolce vita!! welcome to the forum πŸ™‚

you certainly seem to have the right approach so am sure you’ll reach that goal in time!!

wishing you all the best, and keep posting πŸ™‚

Thanks angie, for your warm welcome! I notice you have welcomed a couple of other new members here…that is very encouraging…really! where I can I read a bit about your story so far?

I am just going to use this space to keep a daily log, helps me stay on track – doing it for myself and for those who may draw benefit or want to cheer me on with tips, words of encouragement!

Day1: Weigh 76.5 kilos, had a bowl of chicken soup this morning, a coffee with sugar and milk, lunch was a bowl of rice, green pepper and potato seasoned and some lentil soup.

Was very hungry as I am not feel too well – snacked on a bit of nuts. I think I’ll have a soup tonite, if I feel too ill. I am above my 500 calories I think…but I am giving myself time to ease into this rather than go head on and fail…

I did not work out today…thought I will incorporate walking week 2 onwards.

Woke up comfortable today, not too hungry….was feeling ill but managed to get on the weighing scale…I am 76kilos today so that is a 0.5 kilo loss. Water weight – but feels good to see the move. Today I am eating normal, small portions but will stop eating by say 6:30 PM and will stay under my calorie goals. Not feeling well and not being able to taste much food helps me stay away from those chocolates that are in the fridge πŸ™‚

its my first day! i will miss breakfast and have soup for lunch with my drugs!!!!

i am afreaid i still work in lbs and ozs like the USA! and our country until european regulations invaded it

πŸ™‚ good luck on day 1!! Let me convert for you…1 am 167.5…and lost a pound of water weight since my day 1 yest…

Ok so…day 3…74.5kilos / 164.5lbs…that is a total of 2kilos of water weight! I feel lighter and happy. Started with soup now, will do a good lunch of cauliflower mash, fish and maybe some fried crispy okra!

    isnt that a 1/2 a baby’s e
    weight? 3.74 lbs?

day 2 is just like day 1, but I dont have to try hard….. day 1 was worst 1/2 way through the after noon when i sufferred sughar withdrawal symptoms/headaches

I know, half a baby weight of water! partly maybe cos I was on medication and am done with a course and the water bloat is going away. I do get the sugar crashes too…that’s when I really am tempted to snack on some chocolates / candy…but just go with the flow and ease into the program…I’m told we’ll get the hang of it soon enough…they say give it two weeks to settle in…so fingers crossed!

i gOt a really big sugar crash/withdrawal symptoms yesterdaY its always in the afternoon- i try to focus on fruit to reduce risk of temptation

Day 3: 74.3 kilos or 163.8lbs. Down 2.2kgs/ 4.8lbs. Really glad to see the water go. Only 15 days back I was 72.5kilos…went on a short trip, fell ill and shot up to 76.5. Glad I started the fast diet…the water is slowly coming off. I am doing 4:3 rather than a 5:2. And i am eating home made wholesome food…not spending money on fancy low cal food. I want this to be a way of life..not a temp change. I am excited seeing the changes…and really want to keep at it!!

That’s a good idea…fruit sugars will do the trick and help cope with the sugar crashes…just tell yourself few more days before your system adjusts…

i am loatth to go to the scales! they are as much a dissapointment as an encouragement! thats y weightwatchers worked for 6 months only, coz after that a weekly weigh in was just driving a reverse guilt conscience and if on one week i had put on i would over eat the next. if no progress i would binge to free myself

today is my fast day 2- iAM A BIT CONFUSED? if your fast starts in the morning? should it last until the evening after your fasting day? thats 4 fasting days in a week rather than 2? having only had 1 breakfast in the last 4 days- today i wanted to have breakfast but wont!

Hello, i do the same thing. If the scales show an increase…i lose interest and faith and eat a lot. This book says to weigh only 6-8 days and after a fast day. I have the habit of weighing myself everyday so I do that. Also…I am not following this method of 5:2. I do 4:3. Yes it can get confusing…i am going to order the book for answers as i have a lot to learn. Currently, i eat 500 calories on a fast day. And yes usually there are 24 to 36 hours with only 500 calories i think…if i get more information, i will pass it along…

current update: 74kilos or 163lbs. Day four down 2.5 kilos or 5.5lbs

@davidrob in the ‘faqs’ at the top of the page, the question is asked

    ‘Is a β€œfast day” 24 or 36 hours?’

    MM answers as follows…..

‘In reality a fast day is 36 hours. If you finish your last full evening meal at 7.30pm on Sunday, then Monday is your fast day, you are not going to be eating normally till Tuesday morning 7.30am. That is 36 hours. If you decide instead to fast from 2pm on Monday until 2pm on Tuesday, then that will only be 24 hours. Wait till 7pm and that is 29 hours. To do 36 hours you would have to hold off till 2am on Wednesday, which would be a little inconvenient’

The best way for me (and this is just a personal preference, everyone is different) is to have dinner on my non fast day and then have only water and black coffee until dinner on my fast day when I have my >500 calorie meal and then water and coffee until my first meal on the next non fast day.

    Hope that helps

    xx

thks dolce vita, i have decided to the gym on my fast days-when i can keep it up-i will weigh in then otherwise at the end of my fast day. the 4 3 seems to be working for me too. so my first weigh in will be next weds which under the 4:3 scheme works for me, coz after a fast day i was not feeling hungry the following day!Β¬ so why not make the most of it? but after time my motivation will wane-thats when it gets tough

thks sylvestra I am fasting from when i get up which means it includes 2 fasting evening meals-but it was broken yesterday coz i went out so i dint eat when i got home, as i would have done before

back again fast day one week two, ist weigh in tomoz! feeling hungry but no bugs in my tummy since i started!
