  • Hello everyone I am new to this forum.
    I am 24 years old, 5ft 10″ and before my diet I weighed 95kg.
All through my teens I was very fit and never put on weight until I hit 20’s when all of a sudden I put on a lot of weight and began to get a big belly.
About 5 weeks ago I decided to get on the 5:2 diet after being told by a friend and also joined a gym as well. After only 5 weeks I have gone down to 85kg, that is a loss of 10kg!.
I just wanted to share what I have been doing, obviously everyone’s body is different but the following has worked wonders for me and I have gone down from 38″ waist to 34″.

Tues, Wed, Thurs, Sat and Sun I eat the same two meals: 11am-12pm – 2 salad sandwiches (4 brown bread wholemeal slices with lettuce and cucumber, sometimes I may put in tomatoes) and around 6pm – grilled chicken breast with salad (cucumber and lettuce) alongside boiled vegetables (peas, broccoli etc) and two of the days i’ll have a boiled egg alongside.
Monday and Friday are my fast days, again same meal both days: 11am – 12pm – 1 salad sandwich (same as other days) and around 6pm I have a banana.

I only drink water and have around 3 litres a day.

I go to gym 4 days a week and never on a fast day, I go usually after work around 9pm.
Every time I go I do 30 minutes of cardio (running on a treadmill for 15 min x 2 with a 30 second break) followed by 30-40 minutes of weight training. At the end of each session I am sweating and exhausted but can’t wait for next session.

The key is to stay motivated and force yourself to go to the gym, it will make a big difference long term. I never do cheat days or cheat meals I don’t believe in them.

Sorry for long post! Happy dieting.

    Hi majordadon,
Congratulations on your success! I am surprised that you got so heavy so early in life. I did nothing sporty, no gym and ate what I wanted till I was 30 and my weight was the same – 10.5 stone. We had no junk/fast food in those days and supermarkets were few and far between. Food was bought at the greengrocer’s, the butchers, fishmongers etc. and was not supplied in packets, tins or plastic bags generally and nobody referred to food as a “product”. It has taken a long time for me to get back to the same sort of food that my grandparents probably ate.
Were you a heavy beer drinker in your previous existence? How do you explain the fact that the problem started so early?
My only concern is that you might get bored with your present diet. I eat exactly the same stuff on my diet days and see this as a good thing – I don’t want to be thinking about food on those days. My breakfast and lunch is the same on non-diet days but I vary the evening meals. I am thinking about dropping breakfast completely. I don’t think I would miss it.
Good luck with your chosen food regime.
    Mark
