  • Good Morning!

MM…let me know how you get on with the low carb eating. I have discovered lots of interesting sites & recipes since starting this plan. All my working out plays havoc with the scales, I’m afraid. I quite often have sore muscles which results in the scale popping up due to the extra fluid that sore muscles hold on to. I’m still hovering around 7 lbs down in a month, which is slower than a lot of people who do low carb, but I’m not worried. This is my lifestyle now and the pounds will shift eventually. Once I reach goal, I will allow a treat now and then, but I know that low carb, plus 5:2 must be in my life.

We have some ugly weather coming our way this week and then severe cold by the weekend. We’ve been quite spoiled this winter so far, so I guess we shouldn’t complain.

Have a lovely week my friends!

    Good morning everyone,

Well, my Islander friend isn’t coming after all. That’s the way it goes with this illness.
When we were sorting things out earlier I warned him that he couldn’t count on my cooking, Sherry!
With just me here it is a hotchpotch of trying not to have food that will go off while I am having fast days, bits and pieces in the freezer that I don’t know whether he would like or not, and I didn’t want to stress about cooking things when I don’t know what his tastes are and any dietary restrictions (most people with CFS seem to have some!)
However, I will try and get an idea of what he likes and then I can plan to have good food to share next time (just in case stress about food added to him feeling like he couldn’t make it this time).

Susie, I am so grateful for the internet when I am unable to be very sociable in ‘real’ life. It is such a treat to chat with people you have things in common with, or are going through something together. I used to post a lot on the Jamie Oliver forum, when it was active and vibrant. It has quietened, but I have quite a few friends from it on facebook now, and it, and this, gives me a lovely feeling of being in the world, and getting insight from all over the world.

So thanks guys! You are precious to me!

Susie, condolences for the death of your friend. It is a powerful reminder of how short and precious life is, when we get closer to the other end, and when our extended groups of friends becomes that bit smaller.

Good luck with having a nice, smooth time of being able to fast well, and get the non fast days working well too. 5:2 can be simple, but there is so much in the way our world is organised (or not organised) that make it tricky. Especially interruptions and stresses!
Someone on the forums called 5:2 ‘intelligent and honest’. Doesn’t that hit the mark! I think that is why it is worth holding onto when the rest of life is buffeting us around. Best wishes for your juicy/soup fastdays!

Lori I hope it has been a good day. Inspite of their ups and downs the scales do seems to be showing how impressively you are doing! I hope that ugly weather is not too destructive!

    Best wishes all!

    Hi ladies,

Busy/crazy day around here. Pilates and grocery shopping in the morning and then picked the kids up from school and took them to the doctor. The twins had their annual check up and my son had a swollen shin from a soccer collision a few weeks back. It mysteriously just started to swell. So, the doc sent us to get X-rays of the leg just in case. It looked Ok to the X-ray tech and me when we looked at the pictures but a specialist has to examine them and then get back to the doc tomorrow. While I’m in with the twins for their checkup, my 10 year old son had to harass his 15 year old sister (a never ending problem) and they ended up having a physical scuffle in the waiting room!!! Unbelievable! In total it was a two hour trip that I wasn’t planning on. I was thinking I’d have time to come home and make two 12 serving egg, cheese, and potato casseroles for the bible study tomorrow (our group’s turn to bring breakfast). Now I’ll have to do it after the kids go to bed and bake them off in the morning. Can you tell I’m a tad stressed! Thank goodness I can unload on you poor ladies! πŸ˜‰

Second fast went well today and will try for a third tomorrow but may have a bit more calories since we have that breakfast meeting.

Lori, it’s great you lost that 7 lbs., however long it hovers! You must be feeling awesome! At my (short) size, that would mean at least a dress size.

Cinque, so sorry your friend couldn’t make it. And I’m sorry I assumed you’d be cooking for him. I always hear about the wonderful things you’re making and just assumed, not thinking about how much work that would be. Heck, I get stressed out cooking for others even though I love to cook! Like you said, it’s difficult to know what others like and throw in potential food sensitivities and it’s even harder! And thank you, you are precious to us as well! πŸ™‚

Here’s hoping you all had much more pleasant days than I had and hoping tomorrow will be better!

Cinque, sorry your visitor had to cry off, shame to miss it, hope you can rearrange soon.
Sherry, lol at your kids scrapping in a dr waiting room! You will look back and laugh too but just now- not so much! Hope the leg is ok when it’s checked by specialist. Maybe it swelled after he was on it a lot? We expect our bodies to bounce back after injury, maybe it needs a little rest time.
We were out with all boys plus WAGs on sat night, nice to take a moment and watch the banter between them all and listen to the WAG chatter, we are lucky they get on tho they are all different. The two older ones are going for a day out with younger one in London next month, nice they see each other independently from us sometimes.
Lori, your workouts sound amazing, not surprising you need a rest now and again, I try to eat lower carb on the 5 days, doesn’t always work as I do like a glass of wine or two, which turns straight to sugar.
Off to face the scales today at slimming group, didn’t go last week. Today they have asked everyone to take a dish to share, I have made smoked salmon mousse and have a bag of chopped veggie sticks to dip.

    Good morning everyone,
Sherry I took it as a most wonderful compliment that you thought I would be cooking lovely food for my guest, I hope I can in the future.

What a day you had! I call it crazy busy when I do two things in the day!
I hope you managed the casseroles ok. Or that there was plenty of food at bible study breakfast even if you couldn’t make them.

Best wishes for a gentle cruisey day for us all.
Although I guess you have another doctors appt at least. No waiting room scuffles! although I agree with Susie that it makes a great story.

    Susie what are WAGs?

I’ve got a meeting this afternoon and plenty to do beforehand. Crazy busy my style πŸ˜‰
    Catch you soon 🌻

Getting ready for fast day tomorrow

WAGs Wives and Girlfriends! (and not Western Australian Genealogical Society)
    Thanks google.

    Hello All!!

I seem to be falling behind on my posting! I do enjoy reading along though.

It seems that a lot of my days turn into fast days, or at the very least, very low calorie days. The appetite is severely diminished these days. I will go home and eat a piece of cheese while I get dinner ready and then I’m really not hungry for my dinner. I should stop that, but when I walk in the door, I seem to “want” something. Hmm…maybe I should just drink a big glass of water and wait for dinner, eh? So far today I’ve had a few almonds, a protein shake, a small piece of cheese & a hard boiled egg. Tonight I will have a baked pork loin chop. Maybe some Brussels sprouts if I feel like making them. That really isn’t much food when you consider the boot camp workout I had this morning……whew! I’ll make up for my food intake this weekend when my sister is visiting. We’re going out for dinner on Saturday for my birthday and there will be some seafood and steak on my plate, of that much I am certain!

Things are quiet around here lately. The boss who started the whole irrational mess is like a whipped puppy. I’m not sure if he got called out on his actions or what, but he sure is acting strangely.

Ok…nearly time to head for home. Have a wonderful day/evening!

    Hello!

Ok, so reading that you guys (Susie and Cinque) are lol about my two older ones beating on each other in the dr. waiting room started to make me laugh too (looking at it from your perspective!)! Like my mom always says, “You could enjoy them so much more when they’re growing up if they didn’t act like such idiots most of the time!”

Luckily I got those breakfast casseroles made (though I was up past 10pm doing it!) last night and baked this morning. Bible study was good-nice to hear other moms complaining about their control issues (you mean I’m not the only one?)

Cinque, glad to hear I’m not the only one who doesn’t get all the abbreviations people use on these chat sites! I’m sure everyone but me knew what “OH” is!

I wanted to take a walk after the bible study ended around 11:30 but it is boiling HOT out here in Southern California! Mid-80’s F for February is almost unheard of! Hoping it cools off this evening and I can convince the hubby to go walking with me.

I’m mid-way through my 3rd fast day. I think my fasts are a little over the 500 cal limit, and they’re basically my cleanse protocol. I had plain eggs fried in coconut oil and chicken bone broth with spinach for breakfast and had a little fruit at the meeting. Lunch and dinner will be broth with chicken and cabbage.

Have a good day all! πŸ™‚

    Hi Salma

    HAPPY FIRST ANNIVERSARY!

And thanks my old friend, been just the one year but you have been a crutch.

And so many friends along the way, hugs to you all (where are your janeyw?).

Here’s to seeing a lot less if all of you in our second year!!!!!

Remember, it’s ok to fall, just get back on the bloody horse! And travel hopefully!!

    Hi Everyone
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY SALMA AND THE MID FIFTIES THREAD!

Hi Lori, I’m glad you have your nutrition certificate and can keep an eye on yourself! Aren’t you powering along!
    Ooh birthday coming up! Lovely!

I’m rather pleased to hear the boss has a whipped puppy demeanor.

    Sherry… Superwoman!
I hope it cools down for you. It is quite cool here, but so humid I am in shorts and a singlet. (Not the typical Australian stubby shorts and blue singlet! http://i784.photobucket.com/albums/yy128/sharncareel/Aussie.jpg Pretty floral cullottes and a black top with a little beading across the neck!)
Rather unusual weather for us too, it is usually hot and humid or cool and dry.

Ever since you were trying to work out OH, I have been calling it ‘Other Husband’ πŸ˜‰

Hey Milena, how is it all going?

Yes, happy official anniversary of this thread and a special thanks to Salma for starting it and getting all of us lovelies together!

Yes, Cinque, if the first one doesn’t work out, it’s always good to have an
“OH”! Glad you always include an attachment for those of us in the U.S. who might not know what you’re talking about (singlet)!

Also, I was remiss in saying a happy birthday in advance to Lori! Hope it’s a wonderful one! Your birthday dinner sounds perfect for the low carb life style! Enjoy!

Ha! Just clicked on said attachment and now realize it was a joke! You crazy girl you! πŸ™‚

Ha, Glad to say I am now skinnier than him! But singlet tops are a real thing here: skimpier than other sleeveless tops and tank tops https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/b4/b8/f2/b4b8f2714d4b7081b604c2227b8238c4.jpg. wasn’t sure it would translate.

Thank you Milena and all the other lovely ladies.
Happy FastB-Day to all of us at FA
    Yes.. goodness.. a whole year!!!
Milena.. if it weren’t for you and for all the other FA friends, I would have given up long ago. Despite all the glitches, we are still hanging in there. Hopefully, the second year fast bday, we will all be lighter, svelter and still chatting to each other.

See you all soon.. I get back home over the weekend (finally) and should be back to being half-human hopefully.

A big virtual birthday hug to all of you.
    Salma

Cinque, Oooo! I like the singlet top! Wish I looked like the girl wearing the singlet top! πŸ˜‰

Salma, hugs back to you! We are here for you, and we will get to the finish line together! Glad you will be back home again soon and hopefully back here chatting with us more too. πŸ™‚

I wish I looked like the girl in the singlet top too!

End of the day here. I got quite a lot done! Yay!

    Where’s that finish line??????

    Another old fast day tomorrow!

Hi all and Happy Btd to the thread! Good that it has lasted so long and so many folk dip in and out.
Cinque- my sons have one wife and two serious gf between the three of them and luckily they all get on together and with us so that is great.
I faced the scales and was down 1 so happy with that, my progress is extremely slow compared to many both here and at slimming group but it suits me so long as it’s going in the right direction and I can enjoy some wine along the way ☺️
Out for light lunch in town today then meeting old colleagues for early dinner, after their work, no I still don’t miss the work, nor all the politics and games people play in the workplace.

Safe travels Salma, come back soon, Susie

    Good Morning All!

Salma!! So good to see a post from you and I’m happy that you are heading home soon and can get back to normal. Travel safe!

Oh my cinque…those singlet tops show every detail, don’t they? I’m too self conscious about my muffin top for something that tight. My muffin top is considerably smaller than it was, but something that tight would make me feel like a sausage! Not to mention, my upper arms are a bit big. WOW, I’m just a mass of insecurities! πŸ˜‰ So it goes.

Enjoying my morning off boot camp. My cat has started wanting lap time in the morning, so I’m balancing my laptop on the arm of my chair to make room for her. She’s becoming quite the love bug lately.

I’ve got to eat a bit more today, so think I’ll pop out for lunch and find a nice big salad. I haven’t had a veggie since the weekend. I have a friend on another board who eats nothing but meat and a little cheese. Never any vegetables etc. I don’t think I could do that long term, as I get hungry for a salad at least once a week. I took a dose of calcium, magnesium & Vit C powder in water this morning to give myself a boost.

Well…onward. Have a great day everyone!

    Hi everyone,

Lori the kind shorts, with their elastic waist, softened the muffin top, but my poor arm flaps meant I looked more like a pelican than like the girl in the pic!
Longer sleeves for when I went out! Yep, I’m full of insecurities too.

I hope you enjoyed a big salad!

It is fast day for me, another step on the journey.

Miso the cat was cajoled in last night, after two nights out in the warmth. She has been hassling me all night and morning, but friendly too. She is a dear little thing. She was awake in the night, but I might have woken her, rather than the other way around. I dreamed my old cat, who died several years ago, came back.

Susie, what a lovely happy family. It is such a relief when your kids pair up with someone nice. ( mine has, yay!)
Slow and steady wins the race! I think I am losing only half what they say is average, but at my time of life the months whizz past so quickly that it is fine! And as you say, all we need is to be going in the right direction.

Hello everyone else. I know Salma, Milena and Makica are crazy busy, but a big hello for when you get a moment to read! And to everyone else! Best wishes, and hoping you can fit a fast day in now and then!
    🌺🐝🌸🐝🌺🐝

    Hi ladies!

Cinque, who sells that particular singlet top? I might want to get one (though I for sure will look nothing like the model!). When I googled that style both here and in Australia, all I saw were tops that looked like a traditional tank or racer back tank. Btw, what type of cat was Miso again? I have a calico female that’s a little love bug too. I have 3 males also, one of which is a fairly aloof tiger stripe…the other two, a white one with black ears and tail (chubby and, unlike most cats, likes his big belly rubbed! and a grey, Russian blue looking only with white feet(he’s very chatty, like a Siamese).

Susie, I bet your old work mates are jealous of you that you got away from the rat race and they’re still in it! Congrats again to be living with more ease now! So nice all of your family like each other and get together!

Lori, can’t imagine how your low carb friend isn’t constipated eating that way! I’d die without my almost daily HUGE salads! How’s the weight loss going?

I’m easing off my 3 days of fasting with a semi-fast of similar foods but adding in that big salad and vinegar/oil dressing. The scale showed a big loss this morning but I don’t trust it…think it’s one of those flukes that get you excited and then the next morning you’ve gained a lot of it back!

I’ve been on the phone today trying to get my Europe tour with my daughter and the Spanish class nailed down. There’s some optional tours I’m thinking of doing, ie.: when we’re at the Costa del Sol, Spain, you can take a side trip to Morocco and ride camels, go to the bazaar, etc. I think that would be so interesting and fun! Has anyone here been there? I also want to add some time when the tour ends to go to Italy with my daughter since I love it so much and want her to experience it. What I don’t love is figuring out all the transportation from city to city and carting our luggage everywhere. Unlike in Europe, and maybe the East Coast U.S., we don’t use mass transportation much in California. Everyone pretty much drives everywhere!

Ok, off to bake a buckwheat potato bread. I usually just make quick breads but this time I’m doing the full blown yeast bread variety. Wish me luck!

    Hi Sherry,
I worked out the singlet top was from this site: http://www.supre.com.au/ and checked through: there is one very like it called ‘high neck tank top’

Miso the cat is a tortoiseshell, but she is nearly all black with some gold highlights. She is an occasional love bug. Shorthair, but that doesn’t stop her from shedding it everywhere! (and gagging on it!)
Your three sound amazing, so different to each other!

Good luck organising your wonderful adventure. I hope you get to Morocco too. I have only been there in cookbooks! πŸ˜‰

Good luck with your bread too. Yeasted breads are the best!!!!

Half way though my fast day, and it is a good one so far.

    Cheers everyone!

    Good Morning!

Darn scale is stuck and I’m still at 7 lbs down since January 1. Sigh…..

Our cold snap has started. It is 15F and will only get to the 20’s. Over the weekend we will go below zero at night. -17C ? or something crazy like that? Really, really hate this. After the cold they are saying we will get a big snow storm next week. Winter is rearing it’s ugly head!

Nothing special going on today. Just work and then home. Oh…I do have to run and buy some chocolates for the husband for Valentine’s Day. He always sends me flowers, so if I would forget his favorite chocolates, I’d feel terrible. He gets off easy as he sends me one bouquet of flowers to cover both my birthday(13th) and Valentine’s Day(14th)! πŸ˜‰

Ok…time to finish up my coffee and get ready for boot camp. Have a great day!

Good morning Lori! End of the fast day for me.

That cold snap sounds extreme! I can’t imagine!

I hope that husband of yours gets a stunning bunch of flowers for your special weekend!

I am excited by your birthday too, because that is the day my daughter arrives from Sydney – with little miss 18 month old!
Tomorrow I will make her favourite pasta bake and stock up on fruit.

Have a fun day at work. See you in the morning!

PS Those scales will move tomorrow! Just you watch and see!

Oh Cinque..you have a fun weekend coming up. Lots of laughs and smiles, I’m thinking.

Well, even though the scale didn’t move this morning, I had a “non scale victory”. When I got to the studio, the trainer came up to me and said “I’ve been meaning to tell you that you are looking fantastic. I don’t know what you’re doing, but keep it up!” I appreciated her comments after that disappointing weigh in!

When I ventured out this morning it was snowing like crazy! Just enough to make the roads VERY slick. Now the sun is shining. Such weather!

    Hi all.

Lori, I sympathize with the cold. It’s -2F here this morning. It is rather pretty, though–very still and a crystal blue sky. Our roads are mostly clear, except the back road I live on which is pretty ice covered. And how nice to hear from your trainer. Those 7 missing pounds show! You’ve done marvelously well to lose that much in a month.

Sherry, do try to get to Morocco. I spent a week there a few years back, giving a talk in Fez. It was fascinating. Didn’t get out to the desert, but loved walking around the old medina and the bazaar. And one night there was an outdoor concert and poetry reading. Couldn’t understand it, of course, but it was fascinating to listen to the music and watch the crowd under the stars. I was ever so careful about what I ate till the very last night when I forgot and ate some tomato salad. Came home with a bad case of Moroccan revenge. One way to lose weight, but not one I would recommend.

Cinque, too bad things didn’t work out with your house guest. But now you have your daughter and grandchild to look forward to. What fun! At 18 months, she’ll be into everything. Just make sure she doesn’t tire you out.

A happy belated birthday to this thread and many, many thanks to you, Salma, for starting it. And good luck to all of today’s fasters. I still seem to be on maintanence, only finding one day a week but I have noticed that that one day goes so much easier–I’m just not hungry at all–and on other days it’s easier to pass up sweets and eat more lightly. Now if I could just learn to pass on the wine as well. πŸ™‚

    MM

    Good evening everyone (morning Cinque)!

Just finished dinner of roasted asparagus and Mexican Chilequilas (for those that aren’t familiar, it’s kind of like a Mexican frittata: basic recipe=eggs, broken tortilla chips, salsa and cheese cooked in the oven and then topped with guacamole & sour cream if desired). Super yummy! First time I had it was over 20 years ago at a B&B in Sedona, Arizona and have love it ever since.

Cinque, thanks for looking up the top. The ones you found are cute but I really loved the thinner straps on the original…oh well! How fun to have a visit from your family to look forward to! Is your granddaughter talking much yet? What is her name? That age is so cute- they find wonder in everything!

Lori, sometimes I find once I’ve lost a good amount of weight that my body needs to sit there for a while and adjust to the new level before it can move again. I’d be happy about it because to me it signifies that the loss is “solidifying” and will stick! Soon the scale will move again. And you can’t beat that your trainer gave you that wonderful compliment! πŸ™‚

MM, thanks for the advice re: Morocco. Didn’t think about having to be careful about the food! We are just doing a one day tour/camel ride/bazaar and lunch. Hoping since it’s an arranged tour that the food is safe! I’m guessing it will be OK since it’s some place the tour goes to all the time and they wouldn’t want any bad reviews!? Maybe I should avoid the fresh veg/fruit just to be safe? And, when traveling, I always drink only bottled water of course!

So, as expected, that stellar number I saw on the scale yesterday had disappeared as of this morning’s weigh in, but I’m still down 2-3 lbs from last weekend and hoping it sticks. I’m going to try to squeeze in at least 2 more days of my cleanse/fast before I leave for Hawaii in a week.

Busy day of pilates, grocery shopping, running back to the kids’ school to drop off the Valentine’s cookies they were supposed to bring for their party at school today (they celebrate early because they’re off Fri.-Monday for President’s day long weekend) but left in the back of the car, home to unload groceries & eat lunch, then back to pick up two of the four and head to Target for a birthday gift, etc., then back home to cook dinner. Whew! Exhausting! You’d think I’d be losing weigh hand over fist from all the running around I do! πŸ˜‰

Well, good night or good morning depending on where you abide! Hugs! Sherry

    Good Morning,

I’m up early, but just can’t face going out for boot camp this morning. It is 4F, which is -15C, I think. I didn’t sleep very well and my stomach is feeling “off”, so I’m just going to stay home and drink my coffee.

I ate too much chicken and cheese last night and so the scale did not cooperate. I’m stuck at the same weight for the 3rd week in a row. I was so mad at myself for stuffing all that food in last night. It was all low carb, but just too much! I’m really sabotaging myself by eating more than I need at any one time just because it’s there. One day I’ll learn!

My sister will be here late this afternoon. She’ll have to leave by noon on Sunday, so it will be a short visit. I think we’re just going to hang out at home tomorrow as it is going to be too cold to enjoy being out and about. Ah well, Spring/Summer will be here soon!

    Have a good weekend all!

Hi Salma & fellow 50+ Although I do lead a fairly active life ,(I’m a PE teacher and I have 2_dogs) I have this horrible roll!of fat around my middle ,a real mutton top which is embarrassing. I’ve dabbled with this diet before although not seriously but have bought the book and intend to Fast on Mondays & Wednesday’s.My question is is the Fast for 24 hrs? If yes,can I start it after my evening mealthe night before ,sleep through the 8 night hrs and continue through the day only eating 500 calories until the next evening meal?

    Good morning!
Welcome here Rosie! Good luck with 5:2 this time.
The way it is set out it is a 36 hour fast: from after the evening meal, all through the next day, to breakfast the next morning.
The 500 calories is eaten whenever and however it suits you, so it could be all eaten as the dinner at the end of the fast day.
I have it as milk in cuppas, and a bowl of soup at the end of the day. That doesn’t use up all the calories, so I add in another small bowl of soup if I need it in the early afternoon.

Lori sometimes the non scale victories are the most important. “You are looking fantastic” is a much better reflection of where you are, while the scales fiddlefaddle about!
A good day to stay home in the warmth!
I ate too much last night too. I felt miserable because I love how 5:2 has led me to sensible portions. If only I had made a cuppa instead of having a second serve. I’d have felt full by the end of the cuppa! Instead of overfull.
But this morning I am fine. Hooray for new days and maybe even lessons learnt! 🍴

MM it is lucky that dog is loveable! What a greedy theif!
How nice your fasting sounds! A wonderful maintenance. And how lovely that those bad habits wane.

Sherry I agree about the way bodies seem to take a bit of stabilising time. They seem to move like inchworms! A gathering up, and then a step.
Good luck with your busy time.

My granddaughter’s name is Josephine Joy. We call her Josie. She was just playing around with sounds when I saw her last, so I am excited to see what she is coming up with now. Exciting times!

    🌟✨🌟✨🌟

MM, I haven’t gone mad, I got my threads mixed up! That sentence about your crazy dog belonged to someone else! My apologies!

    Hello Girls,

Just spent a nice day with the kids off of school down in La Jolla by the beach going out to lunch (Italian- victorious! I had a salad with chicken, feta, tomatoes, olives and lemon olive oil dressing/no bread) walking by the seals sunbathing on the beach and looking in the tide pools.

Welcome Rosie and best of luck. You’ll get the hang of this way of life soon!

Cinque, what a beautiful name your granddaughter has! Her middle name is yours! What a lovely tribute to grandma! Again, have a wonderful time with her and your daughter.

Just touched base with a girlfriend I met in Hawaii last summer who was visiting her grown daughter that lived in our condo complex. She also has a daughter who’s the same age as my twins so we ended up getting together a lot for the girls to play. Well, her older daughter is due to give birth to her first child, a boy, any day. My friend is flying in next Friday as well to be there for the birth so it will be nice to see her and catch up, as well as get to meet the new bundle of joy. The following week I have a friend from San Diego meeting me there so I get to play tour guide (which I don’t mind at all). She’s very easy going and fun so it should be a good time.

Well, that’s all I’ve got for now so over and out!

Hello, my name is Mandy but my username is me taking the opportunity to see something a little more inspirational every time I log in here! Please feel free to use either. I’m 50, I live in Widnes, England and the love of my life is my eight year old grandson.

This is my second go at 5:2. The first time I tried it I did lose weight, but fell off the wagon for a variety of reasons. This time, I am much better prepared and utterly determined to stick with it. I’m also going to be doing Fast Exercise along with the change in diet to chivvy things along a bit.

I work nights, too, so I’ll be reading all the threads I can find on how to work the plan into those shifts.

Well, I’m off to peruse the forum so enjoy whatever you’re doing xx

    Hello Mandy Lose2Win! Great mantra!
Nice to have you here (and another lovely grandma too!).
I hope this second go at 5:2 goes well. The trick seems to be making it fit into life sustainably. I can see how working nights makes it tricky. Best of luck.

I’ve been playing with Josie all day, ofcourse, and she is such fun. She says ‘ball’ and ‘hereyougo’ and the first letter of lots of words! And an impressive conversation style chatter.
My mum gave me my grandmother’s name as my second given name, and when my daughter Rose was born I gave her my mum’s name as her second name, and now she has continued the tradition with the most gorgeous combination!

Miso the cat has disappeared! One look at Josie and she was off.

Sherry what lovely connections you make! Best wishes for the birth of that little boy!

Off to rest. Fast day tomorrow!

    Good Morning!

I reported the above post so hopefully it will be gone soon.

Slept in till 5:30 this morning! WOW! What a treat. My sister is here and we have no plans to go out in the cold until time for dinner tonight. We’ll just enjoy hanging out and talking.

Cinque…sounds like you’re having a lovely time with Josie! How sweet. It’s a great age when they’re just starting to talk.

Sherry…back to Hawaii? Sigh….What a wonderful thing to be able to “pop” over there from time to time. Enjoy the time with your friends.

Welcome Rosie & Mandy! It’s a great little group we have here. I’ve got to get back on the fasting wagon as I let myself go this week and have no loss to show for it. So, stick to low carb and 2 500 calorie days for me next week. Good luck!

Well, back to my coffee. Have a lovely day!

I hope you are having a happy birthday Lori, even in the freezing cold!
It is a lovely day here.
How nice to start your birthday with a good sleep.
    Happy sister time too!

    I’m fasting!

    Hi ladies,

A lazy day around here. I got rid of 3 of the 4 on play dates today and the older one, being 15, pretty much hides in her room, so it’s like I’ve got no kids to worry about today!

Took a nice walk with the hubby and twins this morning, made my pumpkin protein pancakes, and now just thinking about packing for Hawaii (yes Lori, I’m going again, (sigh), someone has to do it!) πŸ˜‰ The hilarious (and sad) thing is, I never really unpacked from the last time I was there in January because when I got home, I had no time with the hubby still there and me solo parenting. I have no excuse for after he got back other than that there just always seemed to be something else that needed getting done! Any how, my laziness should pay off in that I just have to sort through the stuff already there a bit and zip it up to go!

Happy official birthday Lori! Hope it’s a wonderful one with your sister visiting!

Cinque, I love the naming tradition! Can Josie say “grandma” or something like it yet? How was the yummy pasta bake you were making for your daughter? My cats always disappear when we have company…definitely freaks them out. Especially little kids who move quickly and talk/yell loudly….You can just see the look in their eyes…”we’re outta here!”

Welcome Mandy! Here’s wishing you much success this go-around! As they say, practice makes perfect! I’m sure adding the exercise will help tremendously too!

Ok, I’m off now to pretend I’m going to organize that suitcase. It’s a hard task for those of us with ADD!

    Toodles!

    Sherry

Btw, Salma, are you back yet? Looking forward to hearing from you again! πŸ™‚

Hi Sherry.. I hope you have a good trip.
I am well and truly back and suffering from jetlag big time. I could only get to sleep at 7 a.m. this morning. It is lucky that today is Sunday and I do not have to go into work until tomorrow, so I am having a very lazy day and just doing my mountain of washing and preeparing a minestrone soup for tomorrow’s fast day (First fast day in 3 weeks!).

Lori, I hope you had a great birthday.
Everyone else, I wish you a great weekend and a successful week. I am going to try to get back on track starting tomorrow.

    Salma

Hi Salma, lovely to see you here, welcome home and best wishes for a lazy day, and another one tomorrow. I hope it is a really lovely fast. Mm minestrone!

Sherry we are working on her saying ‘grandma’. She will proabaly call me ‘g’. The cats are ‘c’
I’m glad packing was easy and I hope it was a lovely cruisey day.

My fast day was a bit irritable and cranky and unproductive for just about anything else. Lucky it is just one day.
Today I have a good meeting this morning, and this evening is first meeting of the year for the neighbourhood house. And lunch time d and gd will be back. Better get cracking.

    Cheers everyone 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

    Hi everyone,

Not so pleasant a day here. Woke up with a UTI. I’m prone to them but haven’t had one in 3 yrs by taking a natural remedy called D-Mannose and cranberry extract. Well, for some reason it didn’t work this time. Maybe because I was test tasting (perhaps too much?) some sugar free recipes yesterday, making quite a few to hold over my kids (diabetic one in particular of course can’t have sugar)-even though they’re sugar free, they contain “sugar alcohols” and sugar isn’t good when you’re prone to UTI’s. So, lesson learned!

Haven’t eaten much as a result, so an unintentional fast day it is! The only semi-good thing to come out of this day!

Happy Valentine’s Day to one & all!

Hi all and welcome to Rosie and Mandy, you will find we are all supportive of the ups and downs that we all have , some ( me )more than others I agree😏
I fell into some chocs on Valentine’s weekend, put them away now but did manage virtually a whole layer on my own, think DH had 2 to my 6, oh well. Juicy/soup day today and we did get two walks in over the w/e so not all bad.

Happy Monday all. Luckily for me I didn’t see the reported post only the lovely positive ones from the regulars. Welcome back to Salma too, hope you get over the jet lag soon,
    Susie

    Good Morning!

Monday again!?! The weekends do fly by. I had a lovely birthday dinner…a petite filet mignon, broiled scallops, broccoli with lemon dill sauce and a nice salad. For dessert my sister and I shared a decadent slice of coconut cream pie. Oh my! The husband surprised us with chocolate covered strawberries for a bit more dessert. I got on the scale this morning and it says the same as Friday, so hopefully I won’t have a delayed reaction and see the scale pop up a couple pounds in the next few days.

Sherry…so sorry that you have a UTI. I’ve only ever had one, but it sure was miserable. Get well soon.

Salma..hope to see you pop in here more often as you get back “in the groove”.

    Cinque…do you still have company?

The post that I reported was just someone posting a link for some miracle weight loss product. Admin removed it quickly.

Another cold start to our day, but it is supposed to moderate later this week. The weekend was terribly cold. I only ventured out to go to dinner Saturday night. Other than that, I was inside under my warm blanket!

Now to finish my coffee and get ready for boot camp. Another week has begun!

Hi all and welcome Mindy and Rosie.

Sherry, you have a fellow sufferer! I awoke on Friday morning with a raging UTI. Like you, I hadn’t had one in a couple of years. Thank goodness for Cipro, right sister? I’m feeling much better, though very washed out. I think I tried to do too much over the weekend rather than taking it easy.

The gentleman (and he was a most gentle man) who cleaned my office for years and years, and then my house after he retired from the university died this weekend, so I went to the funeral. He was a second father to me and I have missed him these last few months after he became ill. He and his wife died within 24 hours of each other. So they had a big double funeral on Saturday.

Yesterday a friend and I went to a concert of big band music by the Minnesota Orchestra and then got Greek take-out. The thing is, I drove and it was snowing and it’s 90 miles to the Cities. So I came home exhausted. The take-out was superb, and enough to feed an army so I won’t have to cook much this week. I’m fasting today in hopes to make up for it.

The visit to the doctor for the UTI made me finally get on a scale and I didn’t like what I saw. “Maintenance” had not quite maintained for me. So now I must get serious and, as Milena would say, get back on that bloody horse and make sure I do so twice, not once a week. I’m afraid pita bread and galaktabouriko and retsina got in the way of low carbs, Lori, and an upcoming trip to California will not help. But after I get back I hope to do what you did in January and take a full low-carb 5:2 month.

Cinque, I didn’t think you were crazy with your mention of a dog since I have two of them, though I was scratching my head wondering what I might have said in an earlier post. Hope you’re still having a lovely time with Josie.

Good to see you back, Salma. And good luck to all of today’s fasters.

    MM

Good morning! I still have company. I’ve been on grandma duty since 5:30 this morning. Much more fun that a UTI! Look after yourselves dear ones!

I’ve got a meeting in a couple of hours that could be important for my project. Fingers crossed I can concentrate! And come across as a competent and impressive woman! (some chance πŸ˜‰ )

Lori, what a lovely birthday celebration. And you were nicely skinnier than last year?

Hello to both your dogs MM!
Sorry to hear of the loss of your second father. But what a treat to know such a good man. It sounds like he, and his wife, had a wonderful farewell.
Good luck doing a bit of 5:2 again until you are ready for another try at maintenance. It fascinates me as I wonder how I will do it…. in a couple of months hopefully.

It is a VERY cold summer day here. Only 15 at the moment. 15 centigrade though, thank goodness! You’d better all come over and warm up!

Susie I tried a chocolate last night, my daughter had some Guylian Shells. Too sweet! I had one bite and let her finish it. Haven’t I changed????!!!!!

    Must go
    Best wishes to you all.

    Hi girls,

UTI is gone thank goodness. I was soooo weak, almost like having the flu! MM, how ironic that we both got one this week! Mine luckily is clearing up with a better (powder vs pill) version of D-Mannose, oregano extract and Uva Ursi. I really try to avoid antibiotics as much as possible because for over 30 years, docs had me on a preventative dose of one pill every “time”, ahem, you know what I’m talking about! πŸ˜‰ As a result, my gut’s internal flora I’m sure was all screwed up. Lori, thank goodness you’ve only had one bout of it!

Susie, you wouldn’t be the first to fall head first into a box of chocolates! Hope the juice/soup fast takes care of the collateral damage! πŸ™‚

And Lori, it’s quite impressive you maintained even with eating dessert (which I’m sure your low carb body isn’t so used to)! Hope it was a wonderful birthday celebration!

Cinque, crossing my fingers and toes over here that your meeting went well! I know how important your project is to you! Praying there will be lots of Yam Daisy’s in your future! I think our areas have traded places! While you’re having a cold summer day, we’re having an extremely HOT winter day, with hot Santa Ana winds blowing…I’m having to drag the summer clothes out of the Hawaii suitcase!

That’s it for now! Have a wonderful evening or morning!

    Sherry

    Good morning girls,

Thank you for all the warm welcome backs. It sure feels nice to be back home.
Sherry and MM.. sorry to hear about your UTIs.. and I am so glad you are getting better. These are AWFUL. I have only had them a couple of times and they are NO fun.

Cinque.. I hope your meeting went well. Fingers and toes crossed.

Lori, it sounds like you had a yummy birthday.. so glad for you that your weight has decided to go in the right direction. I only wish mine would be convinced to.

So, moment of truth: I weighed myself yesterday and I am up again to 88.7 Kg! (This from a low of 82 Kg 6 months ago). A positive spin on it, I guess, is that I am around 5 kgs less than what I weight this time last year. Not exactly my goal of being 20 Kgs less is it? Still, this is after a weekend of staying in and wolfing a box of chocolates bought at the airport (on special for Valentines. Why oh why do we do this to ourselves?). I had the best of intentions to only have one chocolate occasionally. Ah well, I suppose the temptation is now over (no more chocolates in the box!). I find this happens to me when I am very tired and depleted.. my willpower is down to nil and I tend to stay home watching TV and binge eating. I guess the weight is unnaturally high because of all the above, but I expect to be around 87 or 87.5 in reality.

On a more positive note, I had a very successful FD yesterday as I was at work trying to catch up and very very busy. In the evening, I helped a friend who had moved with some shopping for the new apartment, which meant I was very busy all day and did not have time to feel the hunger. My minestrone soup was a great welcome home and I had a large bowl before going straight to sleep from exhaustion, so I had no time to do any real damage.

I am now awake at 4:00 a.m. (jet lag) and feeling rather pleased to have got back into the groove as it were. I need to get back into some kind of routine and to really pull my socks up and get going seriously on the business of losing this extra weight this year. It is a full year since starting and I had managed to get some real progress before faltering, so I know I can do it. Instead of shooting for high targets, I am going to pare it down to 3 Kg. mini targets, and just doing 2 FDs a week, just like I did when I started. Plain vanilla. So, my next target will be to get back to 84 Kgs. Phew.. that doesn’t sound too far fetched!

Have a great day ladies.. I really missed having my morning coffee with you ladies around the virtual table.. and Cinque, do let us know how your meeting went.

    Salma

    Salma

    Have a great day

    Hi all
Welcome back Salma, smiled at the chocolate story, much like mine! Oh well, keep going and I am sure the scales will be down soon. It is very difficult to keep on track when away so not surprised you are up from the lowest. Like you say, down from last year so overall a win.
Glad the UTIs have settled, I used to get them a lot in my 20/30s not so much now, touch wood!
Hope the new girls are doing ok? Pop in and tell us how it’s going?
Lori, that dinner sounds lush, scale will soon whoosh down again once you get back to your usual routine.
FD for me today plus scales at slimming group, fingers X!
    Susie

    Good Morning!

Salma…what a lovely post! No worries about that gain. Look at you, you came back and had a great fast day straightaway! I look forward to the coming year as we all march toward our goals!

After yesterday’s fast, the scale finally popped down to a new number! Only by a few tenth’s mind, but down! We have terribly icy roads this morning, so no boot camp for me. I’m not crazy…not going to risk an accident to go exercise. Besides, the furball on my lap prefers that I stay right here. πŸ˜‰

Susie…hope your weigh in was a good one. Do pop in and give us the good news!

Sherry…glad you’re feeling better and MM…hope you are as well. You know, there are so many “things” that can happen to us to make us feel poorly, isn’t it a miracle when we have a day where we feel well? Let’s embrace those days!

Cinque..hope your meeting was a smashing success! Can’t wait to hear a report from you.

Ok…enough of my rambling. Have a lovely day.

    Hi everyone,
meeting was a success but completely exhausting, and I am on grandma duty around it. So I am just popping up here for a second to say hi!

Salma you have had such a busy and stressful year! I hope you can pat yourself on the back for the wonderful changes: not just the weight loss but everything you have learnt around it. Fingers crossed this year will settle down to be easier and even more weight gone.

UTI’s must have been in the air as another friend of mine got a bad one too, symptomless until too late and she ended up in hospital. She is okay now thank goodness.

Anyway, this meeting! Two dynamic guys that have been working well together for year shave got a big space in the community hub near Broad Meadows (one of our most disadvantaged areas). Their focus is disengaged youth and they will use the space for projects and classes to get kids skilled at cooking, computer, refurbishing furniture, set up and op shop, community gardens etc etc – a million ideas at once. But their feet are on the ground and I think they can do it.

Anyway, they have area for a cafe, a cook and lots of apprentice cooks, so what better than to have a YamDaisy Cafe (that’s my model). This means that I/we can work in with them and get my project going. Mutual support, and they are all set up to do the things that are hardest for me to do.
That was just the first discussion, but if anyone will make it happen they will.
    Woot!

So much to do, but I have a granddaughter here giving me shoes.

    Best wishes!

    Hi girls,

So good to see you back here in full swing, Salma! Yes, the positive here is you do weigh less now than you did last year this time! We will all be here to cheer you on to getting back to 82 kg and beyond! I have a good feeling about this year for all of us! WE WILL REACH OUR GOALS!

I agree Lori, you really appreciate those days that you feel well after feeling really crappy! Congrats on the scale nudging downward! See, you’re starting to break loose!

Speaking of which, my pilates (knock on wood…we “knock” here in the U.S., you guys “touch” wood!) really does seem to be helping my back. It’s actually been a blessing having my normal pilates instructor guy gone teaching at a retreat in Spain because the woman who he has helping out in his stead is a fireball from New Jersey who kicks my butt (in all the best ways!). I really feel I’ve gotten so much stronger in the ‘ol core working with her. I think when I return from Hawaii I’m going to see the guy instructor once a week and the woman once a week. I’d really like to see her twice a week (she’s better and cheaper) but she’s a full 20-25 minute drive away-I think I can bear it once a week. If there’s anything I know about myself it’s that if it’s too hard to get to the exercise, I won’t stick with it.

I’m going to try to maintain these gains in core strength by going to pilates classes while in Hawaii. I think I may have mentioned that I’m also going to take a beginner’s tai chi class at a park across from our condo near the beach. I’m excited about that since I’m not a good meditator and this is like moving meditation.

Cinque! You were in my prayers for a successful meeting and I had a good feeling about it! And look! A positive first step! I’m so excited for you and wishing you the best as this hopefully moves along! Wish you could post a pic of cute little Josie!

Today was a successful eating day despite eating two meals out. Had a breakfast get together with friends during which I ate half a feta and veggie omelet and a bit of fruit. Lunch on the run was a cabbage, lettuce, salsa, guacamole, chicken salad from a healthy Mexican place. For dinner I made Greek turkey burgers, on buns for the kids, and for me, in a salad with feta, lettuce and tomatoes with a yummy lemon vinegarette.

Time to clean the kitchen, make kids’ lunches, do a load of laundry, shower and bed! Night all!
