  • Hi Nama!

Not only Happy is quiet, we haven’t heard from Smiffy for a while either. Lizzy, missing you too. Are you all on summer holidays?

So agree about wonderment about spring – magnolias, daffs and cherry blossoms everywhere.

    Hi Nama (and Nicky!),

Yes I’m alive! Just busy, and not a lot to contribute at the mo…

    Afternoon all,

Another good session at the gym and pool this morning and I managed five minutes in the sauna. Progress at last πŸ˜‰

I’m fasting today and have had a whey protein shake and a pot of coffee to keep me going. I am determined to crack fasting on gym days. I’ve prepped all the veg etc for my sweet and sour pork dinner and there is a lot there. It’ll make four huge portions and only 325 calories in each one.

The gym is still quiet as many are still on holiday. It was really nice and quiet in there and the pool was blissfully uncrowded. I’m aiming to swim for 30 minutes every time and so far so good, but my shoulders are complaining πŸ˜†

I have US Open tennis to keep me occupied for the next two weeks which will keep me out of the kitchen as I’ll be on the edge of my seat watching some exciting matches. Still no physio appointment, I’ll give it another couple of days and if I haven’t heard I’ll call my GP surgery.

Only 19Β°C today, but bright with intermittent sunshine.

Have a good one everybody ?

    Hi All,
Been a bit preoccupied this last few days, very busy advertising and selling clutter as well as trips to local tip and Charity shops. Managed to fit in a game of bowls, a lunch date and now going out to dinner with the girls tonight. Ok so it’s not good for the fasting regime but it sure as hell is good for the soul. Having fun! Hope you all are too!?
Promise I will be good tomorrow and make up for my indulgences today.
Who cares about the weather so long as we are together – keep fasting and keep posting my friends.

Just wanted to share that is isn’t just the weight loss that improves on 5.2 . Because of the RA in my hands and the calcification I had to give up my knitting YEARS ago . Yesterday I bought some wool to teach my lovely new next door neighbour to knit and I gave it a try too . This is what I have done . I feel amazing . My arms are a wee bit sore but my hands ARE FINE ….Yesssss!!!!!!!

    Wee xx

That is fantastic news Wee, you must be so pleased πŸ˜›

Thanks pal I am so so pleased . it means so much to me being able to knit again …AND keeps my hands busy too πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ xx

    Wee,

That is great news! I’m a knitter too, and I can’t imagine not being able to.

    Jo,

Great to hear you’re enjoying life. I’m sure I remember someone saying they were going to abstain from eating out until their big holiday/ they reached goal… πŸ™‚

    Amazon,

Congratulations on the successful fast. Do you think the failed attempts were a backlash against the previous ADF?

    Hello all

Just confirming that I am still on the planet. It has been a very busy summer, though mostly filled with good things happening. A lot of eating and drinking has been involved but I have managed two fasts most weeks which has kept my weight on a fairly even keel. I still have about 10 lbs to lose but if I hadn’t been fasting there is no doubt another 10lbs would have piled on!

OA – I hope you are feeling better. I can vouch for Wee’s recommendation of Vick rubbed on the soles of the feet to stop night time coughing. I tried it a few months ago during a bout of full-blown ‘flu. Bizarre, but it definitely works!

Jojo, Amazon and Purple, I’m sorry I wasn’t able to join you in London last week. I’m glad you had a good day. Apart from the threatened underground train drivers’ strike, we were waiting for confirmation of a date for the delivery of some patio furniture to our house in Wales which meant we would have to go at short notice to receive it. After a lot of chasing because we had heard nothing, it eventually came today. We had to put together the table – no mean feat as some of the screw holes didn’t match – but we eventually did it and are very pleased with it. We then had a long walk on the beach and shopped (unsuccessfully) for a parasol for the table, but it was a great way to spend a fast day. I hardly thought about food at all until it was time for a chicken salad this evening. I’m feeling very virtuous!

Wee – glad Jim is doing well and what great news about your regained ability to knit! Fantastic. It’s a wonderful feeling when we are able to do things we weren’t previously able to because of the excess weight and related health issues. For me it was simply being able to easily climb the stairs without having to haul myself up grabbing the banisters. I had seriously thought I would soon be needing a stair lift, but now I can run up unaided and feel great.

Home tomorrow with a meal out tomorrow night (steak and salad), an Italian meal with friends to celebrate a birthday on Thursday, and a 30th birthday party to go to on Saturday, squeezing in another fast day on Friday.

Hopefully, the socialising will calm down next week and I can start losing again. I have a wedding to go to at the end of the month and last week bought a lovely dress to wear. It fits well, but will look even better with a few more pounds off!

    Have a good night/morning all.

    Smiffy x

    Hi everyone,

    I’m up watching tennis.

Smiffy, good to hear from you and glad to hear you are enjoying yourself. Well done on maintaining through a period of socialising, this WOE really helps us stay in control doesn’t it πŸ™‚

Happy, the failed fasts were more to do with the emotional ups and downs that is my life at the moment. I’m feeling much better this week and have fasted twice already, so all is well at the moment.

M Sad and Happy quick story
I did buy myself a new pair of nike flouro x trainers and I got a pair of white ankelet sports socks I tried them out this morning I felt some rubbing as you would expect but when I got home inside with the light on I had blood on the outside of both shoes that had seeped through the socks and new shoes bugger that’s not ideal too bad soo sad πŸ˜₯
Having lost the paunch and over 25kg now standing on one leg while having the other foot up on the breakfast bar to apply a Disney Band-Aid a micky mouse one πŸ˜‰ is soooooooooo much easier πŸ˜† happy
    Sharing is Caring
    Happy hump day fast friends

    Peace RT

Hi Guys, terrible week for me, far too much eating and drinking and no fasting:-(((
My daughter starts her first teaching job today so things will settled back down to normal again, I am fasting today for sure, dare not venture anywhere near the scales for a while.
After our trip up north I can confirm Wee is correct and summer has bypassed Scotland this year. However we still had a lovely time I love the coastline up there, could look at it all day.
RT Hope you wounds heal soon, I always wear two pairs of socks with trainers for exercise to prevent rubbing, or double layer socks, give it a try.
Enjoy the tennis Amazon, I like to watch the U.S. Open but all the matches I want to see are when I’m in bed! Glad to see Andy got through!
Wee – I just taught my niece how to knit, she is a natural and was away in no time. Just wish my 2 daughters would have a go!

Iona, I only have myself to please and I don’t work so I can watch tennis any time. Last night I took a nap at 9pm and got up at midnight as I wanted to be up early this morning. I used to work shifts and nights so am lucky enough to be able to sleep anytime. The difficult thing was that I fasted yesterday and once I’d been up for an hour I was really hungry. I talked myself out of it and managed to get to bed without succumbing and got up feeling very smug this morning.
I don’t know how I would cope with this WOE if there were others in the house needing to be fed, and temptation in the fridge and the larder ?
At least you know that a couple of good FDs will get you back on track.

Amazon “Only myself to please and don’t work”— what bliss!!! I love my family but some days……
Yes hopefully a few FD’s will sort me out.

    Happynow,
I didn’t eat at a restaurant but at friends houses. The lunch was light, salmon and veg but I had 2 gin and tonics( very naughty) the dinner was homemade carrot and coriander soup( without bread) and a very small portion of quorn spaghetti bologna use with zero noodles sadly with two glasses of red wine. What can I say no will power! But it was a really great day which I enjoyed very much and happiness factor is essential in my book.
Well done Wee, knitting again. I am sewing lots of knitted squares together at the moment. They are for the local rescue centre, dog blankets. Hope they appreciate all this work. I plan each one so they look symetrical(I know OCD or what!). Actually we were discussing these traits last night at our girls night. One of my friends actually said she can only put her washing out with matching pegs, both in type and colour per item she hangs. Seriously! I thought I had issues with order in my life but I am not that bad. If the peg works I use, simple.
Fasting today- time passing slowly but I am staying away from the kitchen- I have a kettle in the room I am working in and green tea bags. I have decided the fridge is my worst enemy. Next flat I get I don’t think I will bother with one. Just get a freezer for my home made soups.
RT- that is terrible news about your trainers, seriously, making your feet bleed, send them back. Cute that you only have children’s plasters though Ha Ha ( me too)
    Have a great day everyone

    Smithy,
Good to hear from you, glad you are in control, wish I was?

    Evening all,

It has been another busy day chez Amazon.
I went out shopping this morning. I wanted a gift for my great nephew and came home with a very nice all in one and a small teddy with 2015 embroidered on his foot pad πŸ˜›

The weather has been much nicer than I thought it would be after reading the forecast so I spent a couple of hours in the garden doing some very overdue pruning and weeding. I also planted out all the seedlings that came home with me from Herefordshire and moved some shrubs that were in the wrong place. I have planted up a raised bed full of sheubs etc that have blue flowers. It will look fab next year.

I over indulged a little on Monday so made up for it today by having 600 calories less than my goal weight TDEE. Can you see my halo πŸ˜‰ Third FD of the week tomorrow and it is a gym day. My week is going so much better than the last one.

I’m going out for lunch with the girls on Friday but it won’t be too difficult not to over indulge as I’m driving, and I’ll make it my only meal of the day.

In my experience trainer socks move down into the trainer and leave heels exposed so I prefer regular socks. I also use a Compeed stick. It looks a bit like a lip balm stick and you can apply it to areas of the feet that might be rubbed by shoes. It can be used under socks and stockings too. It is very effective, I’ve not had a blister since discovering it.

    Good evening Guys,
I am typing with my middle finger which is slow but surprizingly easy. I was bitten on my index finger of my dominant hand today. It’s quite a deep wound, very painful and swollen. It was one of those stupid series of events that happened on my dog walk this afternoon. A dog walker with a puppy Yorkshire terrier had allowed their charge too much length of lead which then got hopelessly wrapped around another small dogs leg causing it much distress. I came to the rescue by picking up the yorky to save it causing more pain whilst the owner of the two dogs unwound the lead from a hysterica dog. My dog(off the lead) decided to steal the injured dogs squeaky ball which it had been dropped and therefore she decided was free for her to keep(she loves a squeaky toy). I proceeded to take it from my dogs mouth when the injured dog ran quickly at us growling ferociously to retrieve his ball. My dog defended herself and me thinking to be under attack. In her attempt to bite the attacker she got me. The moral – Dont get between two dogs and one toy. My finger is still bleeding and throbbing, very unpleasant. But I am glad it was me and not the other dog owner that was bitten. Sadly I was wearing white from top to toe so the blood made it look a lot worse than it was, the lunchtime massacre at the local park. It certainly drew a crowd. All dogs were put on leads and taken home in disgrace. Luckily my tetanus jab is up to date.
Like you Amazon I still managed some gardening this afternoon, left handed weeding is now a new skill. Weeman – no left handed sewing though. Hope it doesn’t effect my bowling tomorrow. Fast day went well today luckily I had prepared food before my incident.

Oh dear, I have had a similar experience in the past! Hope you make a speedy recovery Jo.
Fast day nearly over, I’m pleased to say it went well. Made an omelette with spring onions , chilli and beetroot from friends allotment. I have just discovered I like beetroot if it’s not pickled so I’m trying it with all sorts!

Oooh, I hope your finger feels better soon, Jojo. Nasty thing to have happened, but as you say, better your finger that your dog bites than someone else.

I’m sitting at my desk with nothing to do! Nothing worse than pretending to be busy when all around me are flat out.

I decided to have a sugar-free September to move the last kg to mark my two-year fastiversary at the end of the month, and for the last three mornings my weight has flat-lined! πŸ™ FD today, so hope for some movement ( πŸ™‚ ) at tomorrow’s weigh-in.

Spring here in NZ, so we are being hit with a cold and wet week!

    Hello all

Jojo – what a horrible experience. I do hope your hand is better soon and you are able to do your usual great work on the bowling green. I’m afraid I wasn’t quite as in control as I should have been tonight. I did have fish instead of steak, but it came in a delicious cheese and leek sauce on a bed of crushed new potatoes and I’m afraid I demolished the lot along with one glass of wine and some plain vanilla ice cream to finish. After a good fast day yesterday, I don’t think any real harm has been done, and I’m going to fast again tomorrow, as the Italian meal with friends has been postponed for a couple of weeks. Every cloud…..!

We travelled back from Wales this afternoon, but before we left I was also doing some weeding – it’s obviously that time of year! Your blue garden sounds lovely Amazon. Yes, your halo is lighting up the sky! Well done on your determination.

Iona – I also love beetroot any way but pickled and in fact had it in a sandwich at lunch time today with grated cheese and low cal mayo instead of butter. It was lovely.

Barata – it’s wet and none too warm here too – as it has been for a large part of our summer! I’m clinging to the hope that we might at last get a warm spell before the onset of autumn. We have had some really warm days but nothing consistent so it has been impossible to plan any outdoor events. It is our local village show on Saturday, so everyone has fingers crossed in the hope that it at least stays dry.

Hope your feet are recovering RT. I have the same problem with a pair of flat pumps I paid quite a lot of money for recently and have hardly worn. Another pair which was a quarter of the price are much more comfortable. Thanks for the tip about the Compeed stick Amazon – it sounds just what I need.

I’ll say goodnight, as I am nodding off as I type. Sleep tight, northerners, and have a good day, those waking up down under.

    Smiffy x

Thursday fast day I hope all is well for the fast tracking train no doubt we have lost a few along the way it would seem or dedicated lurkers maybe I really enjoy the quality of the food I eat nowadays not the quantity of greasy fatty yummy goodness
Cheers to a long life in good health

    Peace RT

    Morning/evening all,

“greasy fatty yummy goodness” that made me laugh RT ?

Another FD today. I’ve hung a pair of trousers that are still too tight on the wardrobe door to meep me focussed. I would really like to wear them at least once before winter arrives!

It feels autumnal this morning, but the sun is shining although more rain is forecast this afternoon.
Smiffy I know what you mean about the summer, we’ve had plenty of warm days but the last five or six weeks it hasn’t been consistent. We had a lovely warm and dry spring and early part of the summer but the second half just hasn’t lived up to it. I’m hoping for a nice September. Having said that, we had lovely weather when I was in Herefordshire a couple of weeks ago.

I’ve been planning my little blue garden area for a while but had trouble getting hold of a particular shrub that I wanted which is a blue salvia. They have an amazing collection of salvias of all sizes, types and colours in Kew but until last week have only ever stocked pink varieties in their shop. I am a very happy women now I’ve got one (sad isn’t it πŸ˜‰ ) and I’ve got several other small shrubs and perennials including a beautiful Gentian which is coming into flower ?

Your fish dinner sounds very nice, and depending on what else you ate on the day, it shouldn’t be an issue. It is easy to get obsessed over everything we eat, something I’m trying not to do. Finding the balance is tricky, but we’ll all get there if we keep trying.

Somone bought me a new pair of secateurs that have a mini tool kit in one of the handles rther like a Swiss army knife. I used them for the first time yesterday, and it took me a while to work out how to lock them in position etc. As a consequence I caught the fleshy part of my hand just below my index finger in between the geips and am sporting a lovely purple bruise which is rather sore. I might have tomgivemthe rowing machine a miss this morning!

Jojo, I hope your finger is OK

Have a good one everybody ?

    Hello

Sorry, Jojo, about your finger. I hope it heals up very soon. When is your birthday exactly?

Wee, glad to hear that Jim is on the mend.

Barata, so it’s ‘orrible in Wellington (or was when you posted).

Here autumn arrived with force on 1 September. Now it’s touching 20Β°, but little more. Very nice after the 3-month heat wave. Maybe you don’t quite see things like that, Happy.
The mellow fruitfulness is most conspicuous, and the garden produce lends itself to ratatouille. The tomatoes are ripe to perfection. We also have grapes(not for ratatouille) ripening over the walls, but most will go to the neighbours or birds or dormice, as we won’t be able to finish them.
Last weekend by the Mediterranean sea was wonderful and everyone from adults to babies was very happy. The sea was warm and blue and inviting. There were as usual crowds of people at that town (Cassis) just lapping up the end of the holidays.
I discovered that my body no longer assimilates wheat. I guess by our WOE, that we become sensitive to what we eat little of. I did a fast yesterday and I am back in the rhythmn of ADF, but on Tuesday I had bloat! No more pizzas for a while!

Now less than 3 weeks until we leave this gorgeous place. It’s always hard to leave.
We are driving to Rome which is about 1200km. We then go to Perth WA via London.

I have a legal battle with my ex coming up before, but somehow I feel quite Zen. This WOL is very good for the psyche as well as the body.
The sun is breaking through the clouds and I can see fresh snow on the Alps. Summer is over, until the next one in 3 months.

    Happy fasting
    Wiwi

    Jojo
Where will you be in the first week of November??
I will miss you in Wellington, I think, but not sure. If you are in Christchurch around that time, I my be there too.
    Wiwi

    Hello all,

Sorry to read about all the finger/hand injuries – for once it isn’t Purple or yours truly injuring ourselves! I hope both your hands are ok Jojo and Amazon!

Amazon I love blue flowers, your new bed sounds gorgeous. And I love salvias of all sorts! I have a large shrub at Jamieson that obviously loves the conditions up there, it will grow a new plant if I just break a piece off and stick it in the soil. I cut it back hard every autumn and by mid summer its a meter high again, flowering its head off. They are also drought hardy which is handy here. I also love a bit of yellow in between too, a favourite is yellow pansies with blue lobelias. Cant wait for some good weather to get outside!

We are having roast veggies for dinner, lots of herbs and sea salt and even some silver beet from the garden chucked in. Smells yum…

    Enjoy your day/evening all!

Morning All, just a quickie, finger still swollen and sore but I am risking bowls this morning and gardening (in gloves) this afternoon. I have employed a young man to help with the digging as my finger and back are both uncomfortable. I will help either the weeding and orders.
No fasting today, and scales say 1 lb down.

The sun is shining between huge black clouds, and I guess the forecast rain is inevitable so I won’t be gardening again this afternoon.
The schools are all open again and the gym was crowded, most likely with frazzled parents relieved to have some time to themselves!
My sore hand coped with the rowing machine and the cross trainer, which was a relief.
The pool looked a bit of a bunfight, two huge ladies swimming along in the middle, taking up lots of space and chatting away oblivious of everyone else as they idled up and down, with several frantic swimmers fighting for space on either side. I headed straight to the shower which proved to be a good decision as I’m feeling very tired today.

Nama, I only have a tiny garden but have lots of shrubs and annuals in it. I also have a little area filled with white flowering plants. The remainder is a riot of all shades of pink and purple. It looks a bit of a mess today as I’m halfway through pruning and rearranging everything but the break gives me time to think carefully about what I’m going to move so I don’t find myself needing to do it all over again next year.
I also need to do some work at the front of the house but I can’t decide what to do. It is a very small area and some of it is in shade for most of the day. I have a couple of ferns planted but need to find some other shade loving plants that will give all year interest.

I’m enjoying my unsweetened vanilla whey powder drink. It has enough flavour to satisfy me, and along with a big mug of coffee and some water I should be able to survive until dinner time.

Have a good one everybody ?

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground in a large field.

While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him.

As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realise how warm he was.

The dung was actually thawing him out!

He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate.

Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

    Morals of the story:

    (1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy.

    (2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.

    (3) And when you’re in deep shit, it’s best to keep your mouth shut!

    Have a great weekend everyone
    Peace RT

    RT,
Love the story, it is so true.

Doctors tomorrow as my finger not doing well, antibiotics necessary. Eaten far too much today, all healthy stuff but not very controlled. Why do I always ruin my good days with bad days? arrggghhh!

Tanga – I will email you my agenda and birthdate.

Amazon- Got all my gardening done this afternoon, now very tidy low maintenance, dog friendly, paved and stone area.

    Hi Jojo,

Sorry to hear about your finger, dog bites can be nasty! Good luck with getting it sorted.
When you email your travel plans to Wiwi, can you also include me – you said you would a few months back, but I never saw them. Just trying to work out if we can have an interstate get together or not.

A nice enough day today, Wiwi, but snow to low levels in the south tomorrow! And cold and wet for the next week. Just wish it would rain in the east – areas there have had less than their usual winter rain, soil moisture levels are low, North Canterbury hasn’t got over last summer’s drought, and El Nino is coming, with cool dry weather forecast. Sure you want to come back? Oh, that’s right, we have a date on 30th October! πŸ™‚

    Wiwi,

‘Touching 20’ rarely happened this summer! It is more autumnal here now, a season that I like…provided we’ve had summer πŸ™ Would you believe my peas are only just ready for the start of harvesting, that’s a good 6-7 weeks later than last year.

    Jo,

I hope your finger is a bit better today. I don’t want to sound unsympathetic, but it did only happen two days ago and you would expect it to be sore and inflamed during the wound healing process. There’s far too much injudicious use of antibiotics these days. On the assumption that the problem is localised and there’s no infection spreading, I’d let nature run its course and avoid the antibiotics. You’ve been working on establishing a healthy gut flora too I think? You do know that antibiotics are going to damage your gut flora don’t you?

Oh Happy, home grown peas….. even late, they are the best!!

Re Jo’s finger – (talking about her when she is not in the room!) – I agree with you re Antibiotics, I personally try to avoid them at all cost, but Jojo’s doc may have another opinion when he sees said finger. Dog bites can be particularly dirty, something to do with the bugs dogs usually have in their mouths. Plus its a puncture wound, so bugs get in and multiply….

    Hi Nama,

I’m just hoping we can get a good pea crop before the weather becomes too unfavourable

Re: dog bites. I know! I’ve had animals all my life and have been bitten and scratched many times (dogs, cats, horses, hens, ferrets, mice, voles, rabbits…). I don’t doubt it’s sore, it’s bound to be, but I question requesting antibiotics so quickly.

Doctors still hand them out too readily. Your doctor prescribing them and you actually needing them remain two separate things…

I think its called “defensive medicine” Happy – docs dont want to get sued when fingers fall off! But there are bites and there are bites, I guess we have to trust Jojo’s doc to know whether its just inflammed or starting to get infected. (sorry to talk about you like this Jojo, Happy and I love a good debate)

    Hi Nama,

You obviously have more faith in the medical profession than I do (or indeed the statistics suggest)!

    http://www.theguardian.com/society/2015/aug/18/soft-touch-doctors-write-10m-needless-prescriptions-a-year-says-nice

    Morning/evening all,

    I agree regarding antibiotics.

Another fine sunny morning but none too warm.

I was up very late watching tennis and managed to avoid eating anything and spoiling my fast despite being really hungry. I got on the scales this morning and am pleased to say that progress is being made. In the last four months my weight has been up and down with the highest being 8lbs more than my lowest on 5:2. I have lost 4lbs, and this is the last time as I’m not putting them on again. I am feeling very positive and back in control.
I’m going out for lunch today and looking forward to catching up with old friends.

Happy, I hope the weather stays warm enough for a good pea harvest.

    Have a good weekend everyone.

    Amazon,

Great news on the weight! You’ve put the effort in, you deserve the rewards!

Enjoy your lunch…in moderation obviously πŸ™‚

Yay, great work Amazon – big drum roll and back pat please!!! Enjoy your lunch.
Oh Happy you forget I am a nurse and we know far more than doctors!! My GP certainly isn’t a soft touch though, I would need to be half dead to get antis from him. I understand completely where you are coming from, and agree totally. But sometimes antibiotics are actually useful! Its a shame they have been over used and will probably all be useless within a decade… just don’t get bitten by a rabid dog then!

Ah, well rabies in dogs isn’t an issue for us here… Although it can be present in bats apparently!

And I didn’t forget you were a nurse Nama!

And rabies is actually a virus, so it would be another case of doctors giving antibiotics for a viral infection!
Happy I worked for a vet years ago, having a break from nursing people, and the only dog that ever managed to bite me died the next day!!

Ooh Nama! Mandolin be warned! πŸ™‚

Thanks Happy and Nama, 4lbs in two and a half weeks has made me wonder why I was getting so stressed last week when I had problems fasting.

Lunch arrangements have changed and I no longer need to drive as we are meeting neater home which means I can have a glass of wine too. Life can be tough πŸ˜‰

Great result Amazon! Did you watch Andy last night, I thought it would never end! Late to bed as a result.
Fasting Friday for me, soup at lunch time, had a long dog walk this morning so I’m ready for it. Salad tonight whilst the family tuck into pasta bake and garlic bread! Just going to to watch the Jamie Oliver prog. from last night about sugar, did anyone see it?

    Thanks Iona,
Of course I saw Andy. It was very quick for five sets, only a few minutes longer than Wawrinka’s three sets. The first two took a long time but once Andy had gained control, he whistled through the rest of the match.

All these years we’ve been brainwashed into believing that eating fat was the worst thing we could do, whilst food manufacturers shoved sugar in every foodstuff possible, Atkins was vilified, and the majority of the medical profession wouldn’t believe research or listen to anyone who had the temerity to suggest that sugar was the problem.
Jamie Oliver doing a programme about sugar is fantastic as the general public know who he is and are more likely to listen to him.

Hello All, well, the forum has been very busy.

Antibiotics were required as my finger fit to burst this morning, very inflamed and infected, very yucky today. Seem the puncture went to the bone on both sides of the bite. I am not a great fan of antibiotics when not needed either but I also don’t want any serious infection before my trip. Doctor said it should have had a stitch at A & E after it happened. I thought I had cleaned it well and kept it clean between each dressing. It has been a real problem, constantly banging it on everything and starting the bleeding again. The clinic nurse also cleaned and redressed it- that really hurt.

But I can still bowl, although not as good as usual, gardening has not been great though, slowly and surely. Food preparation a bit of a bugger too. Usually use my index finger for chopping. Guess we all have to adapt.

Have a great weekend everyone. Fasting today and all is well with the world.
Yes Nama, I will send you schedule for trip, not yet found since my move.

Amazon, I think Andys match seemed long because I was just willing him to get through and I was tired and ready to sleep! I don’t know how they play in that heat.
I’m furiously reading labels for sugar content after watching Jamie, I have always discouraged fizzy drinks and thankfully both my girls (in their 20’s) have lovely teeth with no fillings. But we can’t be complacent it seems sugar is everywhere.

    Iona72,
I have three friends now doing ‘sugar free’ diets. They are getting benefits of weight loss but more importantly their health is improving significantly. All had digestive issues. So I think the least sugar we eat the better, I am sure natural sweeteners like honey are much healthier provided we don’t over indulge.

It is very irritating reading the labels on everything though. Fortunately I just have very few processed foods so that makes life easier.
