  • What an amazing number of posts in such a short time. What a thread. ๐Ÿ˜‰

AO, thinking of you. Rest and take care. Wishing you strength and healing.

Nicky, congrats on weight loss. Awesome.

Jojo, I weigh every day and I keep a food diary. That’s how I know exactly how many true fast days and semi fast days I’ve done in the last 16 months of intermittent fasting. I know this is a little OCD ๐Ÿ˜‰

However, it keeps me honest when I have to record all my indulgences on a daily basis. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ Otherwise I would fool myself that it was only a little indulgence. And then maybe repeat the indulgence the next day and so on. And how could such a small and regular indulgence possibly make a real difference in weight and health. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

This constant vigilance also makes me come back on track way faster. Pun intended. So, yes, I indulge today, but when I see what I’ve done and the weight shows up tomorrow, then I have cause and effect in black and white. It’s very hard to keep on mindlessly indulging when the evidence stares me in the face.

As RT says, peace to all. Good luck with your footy team, RT. mine is in the naughty corner for the next few years, Essendon!

    Cheers, Bay

Amazon, Well done. Size 12 so exciting.

Smiffy, great to hear from you.

So many posts to read. Must go off and walk the dog in the howling wind. Being a Border Collie she loves the cold wind and stares into the distance looking for stray sheep, methinks! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Happy Friday all

Oh dear! Log in this morning to tales of woe from both hemispheres.

Smiffy, glad you are feeling a little better but do take it slowly.

Gowergirl, commiserations on self-inflicted pain. jHopefully you are feeling better by now.

Jojo, good to hear you are getting some good nights’ sleep. It can surely only help.

… and AO, my fellow South Aussie! So sorry to hear of your accident, considerable pain and inconvenience, but what an adventure! A trip in an ambulance and a stay in our soon to be superseded RAH. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Hope you didn’t have to wait long in ER before being attended to. Please keep us posted on your progress when pain allows. At least you can get some much-needed rest.

Amazon, only 2lb AND size 12s – you and this WOL rock.

RT, you my other SA fasting mate have more steel in you than I do in tackling a 4-day fast. I’d be miserable and so would everyone around me, despite my favourite miso Wakame Hikari @ 28C/serve to look forward to each evening. Take care of yourself. Your writings always make me smile – LMFAO and POETS day in one post.

Wee and SAMM, thinking of you both.

Take care all and keep up the good work. n xxx

    Morning all,

Oh AO you poor chicken – I do hope your arm gets sorted soon and orthopods decide what they need to do and do it! Such a simple thing as an uneven footpath leads to all this pain and trauma. Thinking of you today. As Ply says, I hope the pain is being managed, broken bones hurt and thats a big bone! As you say, you are now being forced to rest, but not the rest you would ever choose!

RT while I am in SA, BIG congrats on your determination and repeat dose of 4day fast. What an achievement, you know you can do anything now! I hope your crows win for you and your investment is sound….My dear old Dad always put a bet on the Grand Final very early in the season, then invariably lost the ticket (he was well into his 80’s)! So if the crows win, lunch is your shout?

Smiffy, that is exactly the movie. It was so quirky it reminded me of Doc Martin. Different part of the UK I realize but similar small village characters. The guy who plays Bert in Doc M (Ian McNeice) was Hughs boss, quite a bit younger and not quite so fat. Glad to hear you have risen from your sick bed too!

Amazon great work! Despite your awful last month, you have limited the damage considerably. Can you imagine if this had been a year ago, you would probably be 10lb heavier by now. And what a thrill to get into size 12 Jeans! Jeans dont lie!!

After my ‘bad’ day yesterday (not as bad as it would have been in a past life) I am fasting today and keeping busy. I have decided to try an order from a family business that delivers their own farms beef, all chemical and hormone free and grass fed, right to your door. My first lot coming this morning so that will be interesting. Its relatively cheap as its bulk, but I am happy to pay a bit more if its as good as they claim! Also, to avoid Supermarkets and to support the local grower.

Have a great day all xx

Bay and Nicky, we crossed! I agree with you Nicky re RT’s posts, very entertaining always! And Bay I love the sound of your dogs behaviour – does she ever round up small children? Have a great Friday!

Wow! Instead of thinking about or eating food, I am busy reading the numerous posts.
    Hello to every one.
A0, sending you well thoughts and hoping each day you feel better.
    Hi Bay,
Ok I could see doing 100 days of fasts using the 5:2 method. I have done 19 and am at goal weight. I too have cut out refined sugars, gluten, soy, corn oils, high carb foods, and most dairy. I have cheese maybe once a week. I had IBS real bad, if I eat something my body does not like, it sometimes responds in minutes. yuck!! UToday I ate an egg, a grilled chicken breast, Brussel sprouts, 2 cups of oriental veggies, a chicken leg and thigh, 3oz of beef, 2TB of coconut oil, grilled radishes, 2Tb of cocoa, 2Tb of cashews. As you see today was not a FD. The scale will tell me the story tomorrow.
Jo jo, are the doctors doing anything about your chronic pain? Chronic pain I feel is a silent killer= it makes life miserable.

RT, super hero indeed! Not sure which one mind ๐Ÿ™‚

I am interested in your 4 day fast. I read last year that a 3 day fast rejuvenates the immune system, and am thinking about thinking about having a go. I fully fast very rarely now because I lose 0.5kg each time (and don’t want to lose more weight), so I wonder if a longer fast occasionally might be the thing for me to ensure I get the health benefits of fasting.

Dr Longo I believe recommends that it is only done under medical supervision (at least the first), which implies a level of risk? Have you carried on as normal (working, driving, operating the kettle…?!)? And did you notice any adverse side effects?

    AO,

So sorry to hear about your accident. Fingers crossed (if that isn’t too painful?!) for a quick recovery.

We had an Earthquake at 3 am, I didn’t know what was happening, how scary. 4.2 on the scale. 4 miles from the epicentre. Not used to them in this part of the world.

I saw it on the news jojo, but didn’t twig that you’d feel it!

Thank God ours just shake the ground a bit but don’t bring down buildings and destroy infrastructure.

    Morning/evening all.

    What a busy thread ๐Ÿ™‚

My right thigh is still sore today and I think I’ve tweaked the muscle so no gym this morning.
Smiffy I hope you are on the mend.
AO, take care, rest up and try not to comfort eat,we are all thinking of you and willing a swift and full recovery.

I’ve not done a complete as in no food at all fast, but I did do three days B2B once, which was tough. I had intended to do four but by mid afternoon of day four I realised it was a day too far. I think advising medical supervision is so that blood pressure, glucose levels etc can be measured.
Happy, I think it would be a great idea for you to try in order to gain the health benefits of fasting, and if you lose any weight I’m sure your Dad would make you a cheesecake ๐Ÿ˜‰

Have a good weekend everyone, it’s a long one here with a BH on Monday ๐Ÿ˜›

How did I miss the comment about the earthquake……. That must have been scary!

    Hi Amazon,

Well we have a BP monitor at home (under normal conditions I’m 110/70 so I guess monitoring it would be sensible) and a glucometer (bought for a diabetic cat, but I’m guessing it would work for me too!). So if I did embark on a longer fast I could monitor myself.

I’m not sure I’d want to jump straight into a 4 day water fast though! Perhaps dip a toe with 500 cal days first time round… As I say, I’m thinking about thinking about it ๐Ÿ™‚

Sorry to hear you’re carrying a sporting injury. Hope it settles quickly.

I have a glucometer bought for a diabetic cat who then had a seizure due to too much insulin and they decided she wasn’t diabetic but suffering from pancreatitis. Poor little darling ๐Ÿ™

Every time I open the cupboard and see it I wonder why I’m keeping it.
    Now I know ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’ve just looked at fb, and AO is having surgery on her arm so I guess we won’t hear from her for a while.
Surgery should stabilise and aid healing so fingers crossed all goes well.

    Good afternoon Friends,
The Earthquake is the talk of the town, fortunately no damage done and no injuries received. Just lots of people being woken up at 3 am wondering what the hell is going on. My dogs had no reaction which is odd.

I have a lot of glass on glass shelves but none were interfered with over night,

I am seeing a Doctor this afternoon to get my knee pain and hip pain re assessed, hopefully leading to an MRI Scan. I truly believe it to me tendonitus but how do you prove this, we shall see. In the meantime I have accepted that I will use pain killers at night and if I am playing bowls in a match. Otherwise I will rely on a hot water bottle. So long as I can keep walking and doing sport I am happy. I need to do these things for my sanity. Fasting is secondary to exercise on my list, it is a fact. But I would love to get to a stage where no pain killers are necessary and I am prepared for surgery if necessary.

Finding fasting difficult today because I am tired, I think I will have a siesta.

I haven’t been getting notification about people posting . i was missing all of you but just found loads

no time to go through them all yet but wanted to give an update . Jim had to go back to Ophthalmologist on Wed and the told him part of the lens ( the first one they tried ) had broken off and was still there . They HOPE the body will absorb it . if not there could be a second op. ..We wet back again today 4th visit in 10 days .. we say two specialists and they have given him different drops and we have to go back in 2 weeks time . he is seeing like curtains coming down and like water bubbles . very hazy in that eye all the time . So just a waiting game really . The older man hardly said a word to us and I had to ask the younger one what drops to use and when :(.

yesterday the care home phoned and dad is not right , he is very vague and loosing control of his toilet functions . So so sad . he has had Alzheimers fro 10 to 15 years now and YES I know he is 97 as people keep reminding me BUT he is my dad and I love him . sorry I have gone a bit overboard . I am being good on this WOL and I am staying at the same weight .

It is our youngest granddaughters 21st on Monday and we are all going out for a meal . really looking forward to that and I will fast alternate days after that . Quite proud of myself as this is where I would have gone well off track in th past . This thread helps so so much

    Wee xxxx.

Oh Wee I’m so sorry to hear about your Dad. It never gets easier no matter how old they are. As you say, he is your Dad. Sending you best wishes and cyber hugs. Fingers crossed for Jim. I’m so glad you’ve got something nice to look forward to with your granddaughter’s birthday and your lovely family. xx

    Hi Weemam,
    Great to hear from you.
I have just had fish without the batter and 10 chips, dogs got the rest. I was fed up after my Doctor visit so I indulged myself even though it was a fast day.
My knee problem is a suspected torn tendon so volterol is the answer. He also suggested I give up bowls at least temporarily, not happy about that. I have decided to change my delivery to a non knee bending approach, many other players do this if they have knee problems. We will see how it goes.
At least when I go on my trip I will be resting from my sporting activities so hopefully this will ensure that I get good healing period. He agreed that losing more weight and eating healthily can only do good.
So I will carry on with ADF until I reach goal.

Hi Happy and here is the dis claimer the 4 day fast is not my recommendation nor is it my advice but here is my ramblings from it day one a normal day really without the 500cal evening meal but a cup of miso no headache or reflux etc or any stress at all day two was the hardest for me woke up with hungry on my mind wrestled with it most of the work day I had bought some lemons to slice up for my teas and the acidic sensation of that immediately put the pangs back in the box until the kitchen smells of a slow cooker mystery stew and mash potato on the stove for the family evening meal at home got into my head. Tough hour or two it would have been way easy to bail on the research there and then some zero coke more water tea black coffee โ€˜mahalia blend number 4 european dark roastโ€™ big fan of it etc and the miso soup which I am not a real fan of but it does settle the hungry so got through it. I go to bed early always anyway Wednesday very zen like day was wondering where all the mind games from Tuesday where at because it went very well a repeat Thursday no hungry whatsoever and some visible and measureable physical signs on the scales and the mirror and Friday morning no hungry to be found anywhere when I expected it. The conclusion the longer the fast the less hungry I am weird strange but true is it the Autophagyโ€™self eatโ€™ process kicking in by which the body breaks down and recycles old and tired cells maybe I felt great I felt empowered and personally satisfied. Now clearly its not for everyone and it doesnโ€™t have to be but just like EODD and ADF or 4-3 and 19/5 or 20/4 or really a fast day 23/1 Amazon has done 2B2 Wednesday feast then 2B2 weekend feast so itโ€™s a study of one yourself do the doable and at the end of the day if it doesnโ€™t feel right donโ€™t do it
A quick shout out to my fast SA friend AO hope you are doing ok
    Peace RT

RT, thank you for walking me through your fast.

I can imagine that the point at which you’ve gone beyond (conquered) hunger must be liberating and empowering.

I haven’t quite worked out how I could do it and maintain current weight…although scheduling it for after/before Christmas and New Year could work!

    Wee,

So sorry to hear that life continues to throw *poo* at you at the moment.

I’ve got everything crossed for Jim and your Dad.

And well done on not giving in to comfort eating!

Goodness, Wee, you are getting hit from all sides lately. Sending you love and support from the New World. XOX

Good morning from very chilly but sunny Adelaide Hills – verandah temp 3.8 but felt much colder when I pounded up the drive to get the newspapers and do my HIIT session. Funny, didn’t feel as cold afterwards ๐Ÿ˜‰

Wee, onslaughts of stress on all sides but well done on not reverting to bad old habits. Like Happy, have everything crossed for Mr Wee and your dear dad.

Jojo, hope your painful joints respond to modified delivery style at bowls. Pain is so frustrating and debilitating, as Sarah says.

RT, thank you for the day-by-day report of your 4-day fast. Interesting about days 3 and 4 with no hunger – it must take a while for the stomach to learn to shut up. In 1972 was quite ill with a gastrointestinal disease and went into hospital weighing about 5.5kg, BMI = 13, after weeks of being unable to keep food down. Even after life-saving surgery at Royal Adelaide Hospital, OA’s recent port of call, and physical recovery (but serious depression over the ‘disfigurement’ of my 20-something body, as I saw it), really had very little appetite. Took weeks to recover it, thanks mainly to my darling OH and FIL who started a campaign of bringing tasty treats like oysters, curries and pizzas into hospital to tempt me, to the deep dismay of the nursing staff. They were as much responsible for my survival as the medical team.

Thinking of you AO. All power to your medical team.

    Happy Saturday all. n xxx

    Good evening/night/morning to you all,
Not sleeping well so I have been finishing my book and learning my words and dance moves for my next Rock Choir Concert. I will be singing with Kim Wilde and Kiki Dee, plus 10,000 other choralists at NEC Birmingham. Should be amazing. Only down side is wearing a ghastly uniform. If you want to see what the rock choir do there are lots of examples on utube. It’s a community choir so there is no voice test to join, everyone can sing, just need to find your comfort zone, soprano, alto or bass. I am lower soprano. The song choices are Rock or Gospel, they are great. I love singing and am thinking of joining a second choir that perform overseas too.
Walking tomorrow morning then visiting the Turner Gallery, new exhibit. Then I have a dinner party to cook for at my old house for our neighbours. I will do a French menu as they are not into spicy food. Thank goodness it’s a non fast day. I won’t be drinking but may have a pudding, tart au citron is one of my favourites.
Seeing my son this weekend which is great, he can tell me all about his trip to San Fransisco.
    Enjoy your weekends everyone
Be well, be happy, get moving.

    Hello all,

Just back from walking 8Km so need to sit down! Sunshine here too Nicky, though pretty crisp.

Firstly Wee – I am so sorry to hear about your worries. I really hope your husband’s eye settles, very concerning for you both. And of course you are sad to see your dear Dad go downhill. Lets hope it is just a temporary glitch…

Nicky please tell me that was a “typo” re going to hospital at 5.5kg! You could not have been a newborn as you said your husband and FIL were there to tempt you back to eating!! Jokes aside, that must have been a terrible experience for a young woman.

AO if you are awake enough to be reading, I am hoping you are feeling reasonable and your arm isn’t too painful. Also hoping it is not your dominant side that is injured.

Jojo I have fond memories of Kiki Dee’s duet with Elton John way back whenever. What is NEC Birmingham? Sorry to hear you got no real satisfaction with doctor, I do hope your new strategies help. Be careful with the volterol, I presume its the same as our drug called voltaren (diclofenac), it can be murder on your gut. And please send some tart au citron this way – yum!

RT I am torn b/w respect and admiration for your self discipline fasting 4 days and jealousy that you had such a dramatic loss!! Like everything, you get what you pay for in life…

    Enjoy the weekend everyone xxx

    Hi Nama,
NEC, Birmingham in a huge stadium, I think the last time the choir met there they did a utube video. Not sure there will be any pudding left, there are four of us and I could eat one without any help, sorry, but I will think of you and avoid the cream accompaniment. Yum.
The Volterol is an anti inflammatory that is rubbed in to muscles to avoid stomach upsets for long term treatment, he reckons 6 to 8 weeks. I really hope he is right as I had a shocking night, I need to know the end is in site. But I must stop moaning some poor souls have pain every day their whole lives. I am such a wimp.

Miserable cloudy day here so weather report was wrong about good weather today, could be a very wet walk. Taking the dogs out first so at least hey don’t have to endure it. At least my new planting will appreciate a downpour, always a bright side is there not. My tan is fading fast, so much for the British Summer.

Scales still not moving, damn pain killers.
    Speak tomorrow

    Morning/evening all.

My GP prescribed Voltarol gel patches for managing knee pain and they were fantastic. I have some left and if my knee is very painful, which doesn’t happen very often now, I put a patch on overnight and it is fine the next morning, so it is excellent for pain relief, as is the topical gel. The pain was due to having had two surgeries for removal of damaged cartilage and my knee having to carry so much weight around. It is so much better now, and I have strengthened all the muscles and tendons with exercise.
The problem with a torn tendon is that it needs rest in order to heal, so the more rest it gets the quicker it will heal.
Jojo, have you thought of a sports knee support? I have one that fastens with velcro straps and it is really helpful, doesn’t restrict movement much but gives a lot of support. I got it in Boots and it wasn’t expensive.

Sorry to hear that life is so stressful Wee,but you know we are all here for you. AO, if you are reading this, take care, rest and recover soon.

I am waiting to find out if I’m going out for lunch today. If not I shall fast. Whatever the outcome, I am going to fast tomorrow as there has been a lot of eating going on this week, and not as much exercise as I would have liked. My right thigh is still sore, and my back is misbehaving which might be stress related. The immediate answer is drugs, and I might go to the gym tomorrow and depending on how my body feels, do a workout and/or a swim followed by a soak in the jacuzzi.

    Have a good day/evening everyone.

Jojo, you’ve just had a practice run for your visit to the Shakey Isles in October. ๐Ÿ™‚ . Not much fun with the knees, I hope they improve. Not a silly idea to swap lead knees for bowls. I change hands on my mouse (computer, silly ๐Ÿ™‚ ) depending on the arthritic pain (which has only just flared up again – I blame the colder weather). At least another choir won’t stress the joints.

Not good news for Jim, Wee. I hope those specialists sort out their varying opinions. And so tough about your dad. Enjoy the family occasions that you have. My aunt (90) had a fall last week and is finally thinking of herself as elderly. Fortunately no bones broken, just a scraped arm.

Your granddaughter’s birthday is mine, too. No fasting then, I’ve decided. I will take the usual goodies for my workmates’ morning tea.

    Cheers, mates. Barata

    Hmmm, alien abduction…

Certainly feeling lighter this morning thanks to the Mighty Adelaide Crows who were not that mighty at all ๐Ÿ˜ณ GWS way too fast big and strong and were always in control we played catch up football from the 1st quarter when 27 to 0 halfway through that and the writing was on the wall good luck to them and bye bye $200 of my betting account C’est la vie Nicky AO would not have been amused I suspect.
I do have a morocan chickpea and eggplant stew in the slow cooker and the aromatic seductive middle east vibe is awakening the senses although grandson is not that inspired it must be said ๐Ÿ˜† I am sure I can find something more 4yo friendly ๐Ÿ˜‰ have a lazy Sunday fast friends chin up to all who are not at the top of their game AOP for Wee you are in my thoughts AO I just want to wish you well..A powder finger song
    And a good one.
    Peace RT

Good skill Barata! Can you clear a room as easily?!

Was tempted to not reply…I could have been the last ones the aliens took! …But I see they left RT too ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Happy, I am here! The aliens left me too, obviously no use to them!

Sunday morning in bed with iPad, too cold to get up! RT if you have a 4 yr old on hand, I guess you don’t have much choice about getting out of bed early, but then you are probably used to it! How lucky you are, 4 yr olds are so cute! And how lucky your wife is, someone cooking for the family… Your luck ran out with the footy though, our turn this week. Son’s girl is a mad Hawthorn fan, so she is equally as depressed as you this morning, she froze at the G last night for nothing!

I am planning a quiet day, husband going to see Mad Max with a friend, just not my cup of tea.. The sun is coming out, so may cut back the salvias that have become triffid like. I hate cutting things that are still flowering though. Also aiming for a “sensible calorie day” so need to keep out of the kitchen!

AO I hope you are feeling much better this morning, what an ordeal you have had. And hugs to you too Wee xx
Have a great Sunday all, cheers!

Just got home after dinner party, food was a triumph which makes a change for my cooking. So much washing up afterwards, was it worth it? Yes it was fun. ate too much but just one glass of red wine and only had one of three puddings on offer, Apple pie, small portion I promise. However I did not resist the After Eight Mints, they are evil things, so morish. Damn my ex for buying them. I only brought home the leftover soup so that shouldn’t be too harmful. Fasting today to make up for a truely lax day.

Busy day planned gardening, bowls, then 2 hour coastal walk then visit with my boy.

Have fun whatever you are up to this Sunday.

    Keep moving!

    Good morning all.

Jojo, very trying to be so uncomfortable. Hope you hit on something to give you relief soon.

Sorry Nama, absolutely right – 5st8lb. I’m as bad as the NASA scientists who crashed their Mars probe some years ago because they mixed up metric and imperial units. Also cut back my rampant salvias yesterday. Felt guilty though when some Eastern Spinebills came and investigated the prunings because there were still a few flowers ๐Ÿ™ I directed them to the chef’s cap Correa hedge nearby in full bloom. Pleased to see they took advice because I saw them there later.

Spot on RT, OH not impressed but philosophical. He could live another life as a St Kilda supporter ๐Ÿ˜‰ Your slow cooked dinner sounds yummy. I have just made about 5L of leek and potato soup for OH’s lunches next week (and beyond). Will also have some for lunch today with a crumpet – no fasting till tomorrow.

Hope not speaking too soon but think I have cracked a routine for FDs that works for me – nothing calorific until 3pm when I have an orange and a hard-boiled egg at afternoon smoko, which keeps me going until dinner. I used to try to last until dinner but usually succumbed to nibbling something while preparing it. Often just carrot or capsicum but sometimes roast cashews, for which I have NO self-control. two or three days of that and another moderate day on Wednesdays has worked for the last month beyond my wildest hopes so it seems to be both doable (thinking of you SAMM) and sustainable.

Sending hugs to Wee and OA.

    Happy Sunday all. n xxx

Lasting till 3pm Nicky is a significant achievement congratulations on that wonderful KPI and at 4kg a month will look awesome on the spread sheet my SA friend ๐Ÿ˜† if you havenโ€™t already read the 19/5 book do yourself a favour download it
    Here
    https://didienrichtoday.com/fast-5-diet-and-lifestyle/free-e-book/

And whack it on the desk top and print it off at tafe oops did I say that ๐Ÿ˜ฏ and have a read good information with the lovely four letter F word FREE ๐Ÿ˜†

RT thanks for that link. I am going to print it off tomorrow too, worth serious consideration. I find eating later in the day, every day, is easier now and feels like a sneaky way to keep daily intake down. Obviously able to retrain our eating patterns. I sometimes miss my morning meusli, but don’t miss the 17kg bag of cement I was carrying around. No way I could have walked 8Km (as yesterday) 6 months ago. Thanks!

Yes Nama that is a significant step IMO closing that eating window or daily fast for as long as you comfortably can becomes a very natural part of this our chosen way of life now and believe it or not occasionally you can look up and see the clock is at 2-30pm and think bloody hell really?? that canโ€™t be right I havenโ€™t eaten anything since 6-30pm last night and that was 20 hours ago it really is a sneaky way to keep daily intake down.I should preface that by adding sleep and working full time still and skipping breakfast and lunch and I am already there really not much thought in that at all for me. You must pinch yourself from time to time at the changes that have taken place for you and your long term health from Intermittent Fasting I certainly do. Must dash taking the grandies out the farm to see Nana who has a great way with vanilla sponge cake with sickly sweet cream and jam smoothered in icing sugar of course ๐Ÿ˜† for them and also to look at the animal menagerie she has then take them home to the second sons place around 200km round trip hence the slow cooker working the magic today ๐Ÿ˜‰ He is also a Collingwood supporter he named his son Blair

Thanks RT for the link. Have downloaded it onto my tablet (save the forests!) and will read in bed, at work during breaks and other convenient occasions.

Sponge cake with cream and jam? Shades of my MIL whose blowaway sponge was to die for. Note to NH mates, not sure if it’s an Australian invention – a very airy sponge cake with no fat. The flour, icing sugar, egg yolks and vanilla folded through the whisked egg whites. Rises spectacularly and is almost guilt-free, depending on the decoration ๐Ÿ˜‰

Leek soup for lunch turned out very yummy. Not for a FD though as it had copious amounts of cheese melted through it. n xxx

    Morning/evening all.
    Another beautiful sunny morning ๐Ÿ™‚

I went out for lunch yesterday. We had a Mexican meal which was very good. I had a burrito, shared a small side of sweet potato, a dessert and a couple of glasses of wine. I really enjoyed the food and the company and came home satisfied that I had eaten well, but not too much.
I had planned not to eat anything else but my determination is not very strong at the moment and it turned into a full blown binge which then left me feeling sick and fed up. I then tossed and turned for hours, not helped by the drunks in the garden behind my house singing football songs for what seemed like half the night.

I am going to fast today which should mitigate any damage done yesterday and then try Nicky’s routine of FDs combined with a moderate day and see how I go.

My Nana used to make the most amazing fatless sponge that she would fill with raspberry jam and tinned sterilized cream which was a real treat as in those days we only saw fresh cream at Christmas. She would cover the top of the sponge with pink icing which was just icing sugar, water and a drop of colour. We loved it!

    Have a good day/evening everyone ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Nicky,

I don’t think I’ve come across that sponge cake. Not sure about guilt free though! Unless it’s guilt free in the same (eating air) way as meringue(s)… ๐Ÿ™‚

    Nama,

Re: your 17kg bag of cement. I have lost a 13.75kg sack of bird feed. I find it incredible to think that I carried that around all day every day. It’s sooo heavy. What was I thinking?!

    Hi
I haven’t been on the thread for a few days.
Wee, sorry about your difficult days- hope to hear better news soon

Amazon- I know that feeling of the end of the day and not being able to maintain the fast till the end of the day. When I read about your sponge with tinned cream, I realize we were lucky in NZ where cream flowed freely. I don’t think I’ve evr had tinned cream.

AO- I hope you are not in too much pain. I wonder if accidents like yours are not a side effect. We are lighter, walk faster and more freely, and take more risks without our sacks of cement to carry around.

I tripped over a root in London some months back. I remember Hermaj’s reply that she had done the same thing in the same place (Islington) and it proved that ‘blue tits’ was not only a bird. Sorry, Hermaj, for the not quite right requote.

JoJo, I see Barata commented on your wee earthquake. Good sensitization for Wgtn! I remember one in NZ once where the fridge walked across the room, and one in Papua New Guinea where I had to sit on the ground because the movement laterally was too much (both over 7) I will be in NZ as from about the 20th October. Will you still be there?

Barata, Happy Birthday for the other day. I hear the Tawa basin got flooded as the council don’t clear the drains. I think you are up on the hill, so the deluge in Wellington did not affect you too much. But I believe there were no trains for a day.

RT, I thoroughly recommend the 19 5 book you put the link to. I still maintain the 19:5 and usually 4:3, but I do miss the milk in my morning tea. I can’t however start eating only at 5pm. I break the fast at about 2pm or 3pm. I guess as I am now sort of retired, I can’t last until 5pm.

It’s sunny in France, but there is a cool wind. The tomatoes are in the ground.
Back outside to garden. Enjoy your Sunday/Monday.
    Wiwi

Hi all, I wrote a lengthy for me note but it disappeared into cyber space. I have checked in again but als it has not returned. Anyway upshot of post was
that I have struggled with new job ( which I have loved) commuting ( OMG) fasting and exercising. So it has been up and down much to my disgust. Food and wine festival last weekend in Clare which was delightful.
I have not checked in for a almost a fortnight I think so there are too many posts to comment. I will just have to make time to log in. Interestingly I was complaining to a friend about my lack of progress and she suggested I write everything down instead of relying on my memory….so it was an affirmation to read in the first post that this was a strategy…. Sorry cannot recall whose post that was…. So Monday , a fast day and a commitment to a food diary….. Bye for now emel…..

    Hi emel,

Quite a few of us keep a food diary.I record everything I eat plus if I’ve been to the gym, had a swim or been for a walk. I also record my weight. If I haven’t lost much/anything for a while it help to review what I’ve eaten/done including how many FDs, and helps me work out how to get things moving again.
Starting a new job and commuting is a huge lifestyle change, so it is no surprise that you’ve struggled whilst adapting. Everything will fall into place soon enough.
My friends have a farm not far from Clare. It is a beautiful part of the world, and we spent a couple of days there in February last year. We had a lovely time driving round visiting wineries etc.

    Good morning all,
Writing down is certainly an effective tool Emel, our most sucessful Fasters do this everyday often using Fitness Pal Application which works out calories for you.
I am often too lazy to do this. Must try harder! I will start today. I also keep saying I will use my fitbit but can’t even find it at the moment, I put it in a safe place before my holiday and now, say no more!
I overslept today after my late night then sleepless night so I have missed bowls practice this morning. I left my alarm clock (my phone) at the dinner party last night, silly me!
The sun is shining so I am headed for the garden, still got a few geraniums to plant up. Fasting today but having all my food before my coastal walk as I need some energy. I find shifting the window at the weekends fits in better with my socialising. Don’t usually go out Sunday night but often out for breakfast and lunch. Just realised how that sounds, no, I am not a ‘dirty stop out’, I just get up early and go out. Ha ha.

Wiwi I am in Wellington from 7 th Oct for two weeks only, then travelling around South Island for two weeks (leaving 21st October at 9am for Picton, hiring a car), then departing for Austalia on 12 th November. So we can meet 20 th October if that suits you I will text my Accomodation details.
Time is going so fast and fasting is going so slow, help me!

Good morning, all! Been a maintainer this week, even though I am not quite at goal. Agree with everyone re fasting window, keeping a journal, and checking in here, of course! Looking forward to checking out that book, RT, thanks for the link. I haven’t quite gotten to a 19:5, but do 18:6 very consistently. My window is 1-7 pm. I do have a bit of milk in my morning coffee.

AO and Wee on my mind.

Long weekend for Memorial Day here, so no work on Monday. Weather is supposed to be gorgeous toady, and we are headed to the Red Sox (baseball) game with the boys. Should be a very fun afternoon!

    Enjoy fasting, feeding, and family!

Hi everyone I’m home now and resting. Thank you all for your words of support and encouragement I have been reading the emails as and when I could. Poor Wee I hope things are on the improve. Can only be on laptop for a few minutes at a time as I need more support but that will come. Chat later.

Jim saw the ophthalmologist again and he hardly spoke to Jim . he gave new drops this time nevanac and I had to ASK how often to put them in . I felt he was quite ignorant :(. I asked if they still expected the piece of lens in the eye to be absorbed by the body and he just nodded .
we have to go back in 2 weeks. So it is wait and pray time

Our youngest granddaughter is 21 tomorrow and some friends have been invited to their house today . the are having some foreign food lol so daughter in law is making me a wee lasagne especially .. how lovely is that ? ..Tomorrow just the family are going to a lovely restaurant in town . I weigh myself this morning and pleased to say I am still at my lowest weight . I did an all fluid day yesterday so I could enjoy the weekend . we need this to take our mind of things ..

That was supposed to be a short post :)….Thank you all so much for being there xxx

    Wee xx

Welcome home AO! What an ordeal you have had! Lovely to be home in your own bed, I hope you get an ok sleep tonight. Thanks for the update, good news the surgery went well.

Ply I am like you, really want to try the 19/5 or similar, but still want milk in my morning coffee!! Maybe I can aquire a taste for black coffee…

Nicky I always make my sponge like that. The recipe was given to me 40 years ago as a “No Failure Sponge” Often gets made for a birthday cake. The dry ingredients include cornflour and custard powder (small amts). Not too healthy by the time it has cream and icing added though!!

Just watched taped Eurovision final, sucks me in every year!
