  • I will probably be in trouble for saying that Happy, but I am tall and felt huge next to Purple. Her waist is tiny! (jealous!)

    Hi Nama,

I had a very little friend when I was younger, and I always always felt like an awkward clumsy gallumphing heffalump next to a neat little doll!

Very good description Happy – have felt like that all my life unless next to my tall brothers and tall sons!

    Nama,

When standing next to China dolls or tall willowy sylphs, I try to remember the words of Desiderata…

“If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater or lesser persons than yourself.”

I’m aiming now just to be the best me I can be. Give or take πŸ™‚

Hmm Happy, he also said, “Go placidly amonst the noise and haste” – fail that one too! We have it on the wall in the loo at Jamieson, so I ponder it frequently..

Definitely something to aspire to though!

    Thanks Nama πŸ™„
Had a great time together. Sitting on Canberra having dinner with Mr P!

Happy birthday Wee. Have a good one x P

    Happy Birthday, Wee. Xx

Oops. In Canberra. Not on! Our stamping ground Bay πŸ˜‰

    Hi Purple

Have you been to the new WWI exhibition at the War Memorial? It is very moving to read the words of the soldiers and look at the pictures.

    Cheers, Bay πŸ™‚

    Good morning FastTrackers,
Happy Birthday Wee, I have ordered sunshine for you today, enjoy!

I have just drunk my first green tea and plan on going to the gym later for a swim and Turkish bath. Taking it easy for the next week. Just rang my Doctors and discovered that the surgery is temporarily closed as switching ownership. Great! As my hip pain is not urgent I guess I just need to wait. They don’t even say when they are opening, very helpful.

As I thought I am up 5 lb after trip, massive doses of painkiller for two days slows down my system and the ‘little treats’ crisps, ice cream, french bread, cheese and cake didn’t help but no one forced me to eat them, just no will power to resist.

Fasting today ( green tea only) until dinner when out with family. Please let there be fish and veg on the menu. No pudding for me tonight.
SAMM – I have decided to do ADF between now and my next trip in April, then 10 day break and back on it for three months to help me get to goal. Still doing restricted hours (19/5) eating too, I find this helps me stick to calorie count. Planning this now.

If I get really hungry I have an apple orange during fast hours, seems to keep me going, plus green tea of course. I am sticking to plan, soup for lunch, fish and salad or veg for dinner. Good luck fasters. (Definitely stay off bread/rice/pasta and alcohol for good now)

    Morning/evening all.

Firstly and most importantly, happy birthday Wee Smiley
    Smiley
    Have a wonderful day!
SAMM, since I last posted you’ve lost and found your cat. One of mine disappeared a couple of days after I had foot surgery, but I got him back after 5 days of worry.

Nama and Purple, sounds like a great get together.
I no longer feel huge next to anyone, even my skinny best friend and it is wonderful πŸ˜›

RT, don’t forget the chopped egg and onion recipe.
    Welcome home Smiffy and Jojo.

    FD today for me.

Have a good one everybody πŸ™‚

    Hi jojo,

Some of the extra will be water, not fat, obviously. And also perhaps an increase in ‘food in transit’ if you’ve been eating more?

But I know it’s a bit depressing, at least initially, when you finally understand how little food/ calories you actually need just to maintain weight (let alone lose it) πŸ™

Good luck with the hip, I hope it settles down. And good luck with getting to see a doctor at some point!

Happy Hippy BIRTH-day Wee have a first class day
Amazon dont you worry about that
Friday on my mind it must be E&O get in my belly πŸ˜†

No Bay. A flying visit. Bad enough directing Mr P around Canberra’s roundabouts! Cripes!!! P

I’ve got time now to report…
Yes RT, Nama and I found plenty to talk about, thanks πŸ˜‰
Nama looks fabulous. She has done a wonderful job for such a newy on 5:2. And, yes, I did feel little (she is gorgeous and statuesque ), but next to others I’m tall(ish). Call me Mrs Average.
Melbourne turned on the usual…gorgeous one day, dark and foreboding the next. Sadly, today was the latter. It really is marvellous meeting like minded folk through this forum. Long may it last.
    Only 270km to home. It’s been a long 2 days. P

Happy birthday Wee! I’m so glad the shone for you today, we’re not even close to the warm temps down south but at least it was bright and dry for you.
Samm – I find the idea of planned breaks very interesting , I’ve yoyo’d for years often having an unofficial break when on holiday (or any other excuse) the only thing is I forget to restart! I can see a real advantage when facing a large weight loss challenge as it can seem very daunting. I have around 40lb to loose which is a thought to say the least, I’ll break it down to 14lb (or a stone in our money )at a time. I’m now also thinking of all the other health benefits not just the size of my jeans.
At work today so 2nd fast of the week has been fine, porridge/oatmeal for lunch and soup and a little lean chicken salad for dinner. I plan to have a bath and wee pamper session before early to bed -another health benefit , I’m normally a night owl.
Best wishes to all – Jojo and Samm a speedy recovery. Also – I hear you poor aussies are coming into winter -my daughter in Perth tells me it rained all last week – normal service resumed at the weekend though they were at a wedding and it looked beautiful.

I’ve just had a huge vegetable omelette with roasted asparagus and am feeling very full πŸ™‚
After months of struggling and losing less than I would have wanted it seems I’ve turned the corner and am back in the zone. This week (so far) has been a breeze, with two FDs and two days well under TDEE since Monday.

    Long may it last πŸ˜›

I wasn’t going to post today because I had some upsetting news, but then I remembered that a problem shared is a problem halved.

My Aunt of 97 died last Saturday. Because I was away they decided it was best to write to me. Bit of a shock getting that letter mid morning. Cancelled all my plans to go out, not in the mood plus lots of family to speak to. Funeral is next Thursday. Very sad but she had a good long innings. She was blind from age 60 but still travelled the world. She was a was a very positive, dynamic and interesting woman who had a good career in the civil service. She didn’t marry because her fiancΓ© was killed in the Second World War and she was devoted to his memory. She had a full life with lots of nieces and nephews to care for and be cared for by them. We will all miss her greatly.

I managed to get to see a Doctor tonight, he thinks it may be RA in my hip and gave me a prescription for strong pain relief. I explained that this has never been suggested before, what treatment is suggested. He gave me a set of exercises and told me not to become a marathon runner. Apart from that just do everything as usual. Seriously! I am not happy. Guess I will be doing my own research.

Fasting went well today and I stocked the cupboard with healthy food. Hope everyone else is having a better day than me.

Oh and just to add salt to the wound, my boiler is broken and cannot be repaired.

    Just not a good day!

    Hi Jojo,

Sorry to hear about your aunt, but she sounds like someone who made the most of life.

I’ve never heard of RA in an isolated joint and it usually starts in the small joints of the hands and/or the feet. I did wonder if it could be osteo arthritis, as it is often more painful after exercise and at night, but that should show on an x-ray, and I thought you had one recently.

As for the boiler, that is an expensive nuisance but more easily remedied.

Well done on fasting today, I probably would have resorted to wine. Whatever is wrong with your hip, continuing to fast will only help Smiley

Hi guys after a while of this WOL it still remains very personally satisfying to complete a successful or a good fast day not too many don’t which is powerful verification we are mastering the skill. Got through yesterday with liquids only and a miso soup for dinner happy days. Visualization and in Nama and PVE case the proof is evident great stuff inspiring story thank you. The smell of wood fires is clear and fresh now quite brisk the smoke haze lingers around the sleepy streets 9622 steps before work need the beany hoody track pants and gloves glad jojo home safe rest up that hip shout out to SAMM look after the knee mate captain and vice-captain out with injury not ideal πŸ˜‰ now green tea black tea black coffee plenty of rain water and a pepsi max today till 1pm another window opens and closes again today at 6pm we are having tea earlier now as day light savings ended.
β€œIt is easier to avoid eating than to stop eating once started”
    Peace RT

Jojo I agree with Amazon. RA is a systemic condition diagnosed by a rheumatologist. It typically affects the small joints first and part of the diagnosis is through measuring the inflammatory markers in your blood (ESR and CRP).
OA or bursitis are the most likely causes of your hip pain – did you have an X-ray? Have you seen a physio and / or had a bio mechanical assessment? Apologies if I’m going over old ground – it’s so frustrating when you have a chronic problem and everyone is chipping in but just incase anything has been missed. Sorry to hear you ‘ ve landed with such a bump after your holiday.

Sitting here rubbing this tender bruise. Reading JoJos news. Hoping that saying I say holds true.
Good times don’t last long , but neither do the bad! Just like wee BIL makes appreciate those we love and hold them dear in our hearts even after they’ve gone. Sometimes nothing but a hug will do from others that loved them too.

I drink 100% pure cherry juice for joint pain, and eat 5 cherries a day that’s not a fast day.I imagine someday I’ll need more than natural help .

I’m going in for a bath salt soak, with some of my favorite ice cream , for my planned treat for April.

Tartan lass , I think the planed breaks can be as flexible as we wish. My 10 on 2 off is to help ensure I’m keeping my protein and muscle health from an long term problems. I’ve considered interchanging some of the past diets I’ve had success on , but I can’t seem to find the want to feel hungry every day. For 2 1/2 months:). I’m hooked on what I’m doing and happy with 5lb a month . So until I find a proven miracle diet. 5:2-4:3 with planned breaks will be my way.

    Thanks for your support everyone,
I agree Amazon and Tartanlass, he may have said RA and meant OA. Nothing showed up on the XRay that was untoward so I really don’t understand. Truth is this is my first meet with a new Doctor and my old surgery was supplied by locums so I didn’t see the same Doctor twice. I feel that a consultant is my next port of call but in which specialist field?
Whatever the diagnosis I agree ‘fasting’ is a must. I do need to tone down the exercise until the pain subsides so I will focus on swimming and yoga, plus gentle walks not exceeding 1 1/2 hrs daily. Dance class and running cancelled for the next 4 weeks. Suspect pounding pavements in France aggravated the flare up. Still in considerable pain today but managing it. Having another early night tonight.

Just watched Supervet, bet he could sort out my hip, no problem.

Night my friends, be good. I had a good fast day today 400 calories

    Good morning/evening all.

Today is the last day I’m allowing myself ‘free reign’ with eating. Fridays are always an eating day as we go out for dinner with friends, however I normally DO try to minimise it’s effects by fasting for the day and only having the meal at night.

Here is my plan for the next four weeks (I will be traveling interstate 7-11 May and will have a “planned” break for that time as we’re travelling with others). My plan is: Saturday FD, Sunday 1,200 cals, Monday FD, Tuesday 1,200 cals, Wednesday semi-FD, Thursday FD, Friday up to goal TDEE. Sat/Sun can be swapped around if needed as can Mon/Tue but not Wed/Thu.

This plan to be reviewed/tweaked at the completion of the four weeks for the next four weeks.

Jojo I hope they find the issue with your hip and get it resolved quick smart for you.

SAMM rest easy with the knee and I hope it is getting better quicker day by day.

RT what a hoot, had to laugh πŸ˜† love your quips and jokes πŸ˜€

I sent Wee birthday wishes on FB yesterday (easier to get on there at work for 2 mins)

Must run and let those chooks out for the day (very wet, cold day today … was woken by the heavy rain on the roof around 3am mind you we DO have a tin roof and even after 4 1/2 years the rain still wakes me as for me it is so loud as I never seemed to hear it when we were in tiled roofed houses.

Hoping those in nh have a sun filled day πŸ˜€

    Hello all,

Jojo I agree with you all, couldn’t possibly accept a diagnosis of RA without bloods etc, plus it would not just start in one spot. X-rays dont show much, especially when read by a GP. I think you need to see an orthopaedic surgeon who should order an MRI. They are expensive but in Aus can be free thru the public health system if you go thru the right channels. They show much more than other imaging does, Hopefully its just some OA and wear and tear and you can manage it conservatively. Knees and hips do much better with walking on flat surfaces, no steps or climbing. Also cycling action with no jarring. And of course swimming will be great. I know you know most of this but we all need to be reminded, especially when upset and not always thinking straight. So sorry for your aunt, but wow that should be a great funeral. People llike that are so inspiring.

AO I love sleeping with rain on the tin roof at Jamieson, I find it so cosy being in bed and listening to it. Off there now and may get some rain this weekend. Will definitely get acorns though, which are falling at present and very loud as they fall from a great height (very old tree) and land with a bang!

RT as I start to visualize maintenance at the end of the tunnel, its great to read of those who successfully make the transition from losing to maintaining, very inspiring.

Amazon YAAY! So pleased for you your efforts are finally paying off. Persistence I think its called.
My weekend starting early (fri am here), so have a lovely weekend everyone. x x

I am looking into reducing inflammation through diet. Just reading about clean foods, those with the least pesticide and therefore toxin risk.

    Avocados
    Sweet corn
    Pineapples
    Cabbage
    Sweet peas (frozen)
    Onions
    Asparagus
    Mangoes
    Papayas
    Kiwi
    Eggplant
    Grapefruit
    Cantaloupe (domestic)
    Cauliflower
    Sweet potatoes

Sadly a lot of the foods I currently consume are not deemed very clean e.g apples, bell pepper, cucumber and many more. Guess I need to buy organic or change what I am eating.

    American researcher Dr Weil

Almost midnight but I just had to come in and say thank you all so much for the birthday wishes . I have had the best day ever , we went out for the day . OH ,Ross and myself . Jojo sent the sun πŸ™‚ and it was brilliant . We drove for miles and Ross bought me a lovely wee set of drawers for my bathroom . The front of the drawers have wee hearts cut out of them .Pictures will follow in FB . I had a crunchie Mcflurry for brunch .Then when I came home I ate a litre of mackies ice cream . I had a sugar spike and I was on a high lol . I felt as it must feel to be drunk .I have never experienced this before . The family were all laughing with me and at me lol . visitors all day and we had so much fun . This is the first time ever I have not put what I ate in MFP . .

Best birthday present ever was I am now under the next stone . only 3 pounds to 4 stone weight loss.

I will get rid of any extra I have gained by next week . all I have had today was ice cream but I won’t do that again in a hurry lol .

I have had the best birthday ever and I felt like a million dollars

    Thank you all of you

    Wee xx

Well done on such a wonderful birthday, Wee. And seeing the next stone down! Woohoo!!
Pleased you are back in the losing zone, too, Amazon. I DOES happen πŸ™‚
Jojo, so sorry you were hit with so much “reality” when you came home. 97 is a really good innings. Both Mr P and I had grannies who lived to 97. They held a lot of history. I hope this hip problem settles. I agree, take it easy, gentle exercise and fasting have to help.
AO, good luck with your plan. I tend to restrict my plans to a day or so, with a longer overview, but not strict plans, to allow flexibility. I also weigh every day. If I have gained, I stop eating.
On my 2 day marathon drive (25 hours travel time) I took little veg patties (Bite Me 21 cals each), lettuce, tomato, cucumber, carrot and apples. And plenty of water. I only had to stop for “wee breaks” and was not tired at all. The only white carbs I ate were one slice of bread and the Hollandaise sauce for breakfast when I met Nama. Having tasty, low cal foods reduces the desire to eat rubbish and keeps the weight off. Also meant I didn’t have to stop or spend money. After all, sitting in the car, except for “dancing” to the music, does not expend much energy, so food is not necessary.
When away with friends, it is easy to simply skip breakfast or eat small quantities of food at other meals, leave the rest. I don’t ever “take a break” as it is all simply a part of my normal healthy life. I don’t see fasting as an “add on”.
    Happy days everyone. P πŸ™‚

PVE do i sense Eggs Benedict in Melbourne City was on the menu ?

Indeed RT. But I had egg (singular ) Benedict and black coffee. Hadn’t eaten dinner before and no lunch to speak o f after.
Nama had a lovely avocado and mushroom dish. See…we did stop talking long enough to eat! I had a cool walk out on Brighton pier (no not like the UK one!) to admire the bay.
Loved your jokes. Mr P and I were howling as we drove home πŸ˜‰ P

My understanding of inflammatory foods are related to their ph lvl.

So water and lemon water, adding stevia . Not artificial sweeteners.

I’ll read more tommorrow and try to give some sound information.

Basically the more sugar it has , the higher it’s acidity.

I had a list somewhere in the beginning of this thread about it.
Is why I’m so keen on lemon. Especially in ice water.

Such lazy day today , did absolutely nothing. At all. Except bathe. Feels good to just enjoy the boredom while it lasts .. Oh except for making a fake account on a game site , and beating my game Nemisis. Just out of boredom. Not fasting related I know and I’m sorry.
Putting an ice pack back on and going to sleep. Take care y’all!

Amazon, I hope you will share your halo with me., I was at a national math teacher’s conference all day, and one of the vendors planned a large group dinner at a fancy steakhouse, It was a fast day for me, and I ate nothing until dinner. I had shrimp cocktail, salad with a teaspoon (or less) of dressing, a few bites of filet (like butter it was so tender!) and steamed broccoli. No bread, no potato, no dessert! Feeling very virtuous! And I walked over 16,000 steps!

Jojo, sorry to hear that you came home to a triumvirate of bad news! Your aunt sounds like a wonderful role model. Hope the boiler and hip are soon fixed. Xoxo

Top choices, Ply. You definitely deserve to wear the halo, and, after all, Amazon is asleep πŸ˜‰ P

So much to read. Sweet Dreams.

    Wow, Ply

Definitely time to share the halo! You can wear mine while its temporarily AWOL. After a completely sugar free Lent, in which the halo was burnished, I have been celebrating a big get together with family, with a little of this and a little of that. Today, it’s been dark chocolate with roasted almonds. The other day it was carrot cake, and last week it was a piece of GF almond pear flan. πŸ˜† One thing about this WOL, it doesn’t take much of anything to fill me up. So it’s not possible to have more than a small treat. πŸ˜‰

So far this week in penance I fasted on Monday and Wednesday. I think I may have to add another fast day over the weekend. πŸ™„ I am rarely eating breakfast these days except for black coffee and lots of water. Lots of fish and eggs and vegetables, lovely fresh food later in the day. Plus homemade coleslaw. Yummo!

    Cheers, Bay πŸ™‚

Sounds like a normal healthy maintainer Bay πŸ˜‰
Are you still within your “wriggle room”? If so, it’s called living mate! Enjoy it. You have earned it. πŸ™‚ P

    Wee,
Sounds like a great day and going under the stone crowned it, well done.
Ply- impressive will power and step count- good job- take a crown, why bother with a halo, diamonds are a girls best friend anyway.
Amazon- ‘great that you are ‘back on it’ I think we all have tough times with fasting, especially when the weather is so cold. That drop on sunshine last week was heaven renewed my energy no end.
Samm, sounds like you are enjoying your enforced rest. Perhaps you should start your book now. You could at least get a plan written. Save you from boredom gaming.
Playing bowls this morning to take my mind off everything. Cancelled the 6 mile walk I was doing on Sunday, settling for a short walk.
Perhaps this ‘hip’ pain was sent to give me more impetus to lose the last lot of weight? To gain the benefit of less stress on my joints. Well I am determined to break the back of it before the summer so ADF is on my agenda. Feeling positive today, I am never down for long. Negative energy is detrimental in so many respects, socially, emotionally and physically.
1 lb down today but still 4 extras to go before I reach my lowest point. Then it’s down, down, down. I think I will need to stay out of the restaurant on my next holiday, just get friends to bring me fruit and yogurt Ha Ha ( maybe a boiled egg or two )

    Morning/evening all.

I am very happy, 66lbs gone and only 20 to go. It sound weird, or maybe not to you guys, but I knew yesterday that when I weighed this morning there would be a loss.
I shall sail through my gym workout this morning.

    Well done ply Smiley

I find these days a few mouthfuls of something good are more satisfying than shovelling down a huge plateful paying hardly any attention to what I’m eating.

Wee, so glad you had a good time. You really love your ice cream don’t you
    πŸ˜‰

Hi Jojo, you’ll find a way to keep exercising but protect your hip.
I’m thinking about Alexander technique which works on good balance and posture, but I doubt it comes cheap. I must do some research.

It’s another sunny morning here and the weekend has arrived too!

I hope you all have a good one πŸ˜›

    Amazon,

Congratulations! You’re on the back straight now! (insert your own all singing all dancing emoticon here…)

    Wee,

I know it was your birthday, but I can’t believe you ate nothing but ice cream!

    Ply,

Good work (on setting a better example than Wee πŸ™‚ )

My mum used to say “What you do on your birthday, you do the year round. ” Mmm.. doesn’t auger well, Wee πŸ˜‰
Bet it was fun though! P

Purple, Thanks for asking, you cheered me up. πŸ˜‰ i am well within my wriggle room. As far as I can tell without my scales, I sit on or under 60 kg, and a BMI of 21, and a height to waist ratio of 0.5 and I’m very happy with that. My good size 12 shorts are held up with a belt. Hehe! Cheers, Bay πŸ™‚

Hello all, finally an hours respite. I have had a shower and my swollen foot is elevated… We have walked and walked each day to th extent that my stuffed foot has become seriously swollen. I have to wear a more corporate look today and the black court shoes killed me…..
We have had a marvellous day visiting two very different schools. Blown away withe student population and class sizes 48 students per teacher. No behaviour management issues! Teachers in school however had less contact hours byt with twice our numbers they certainly need it.
Food has been incredible. I have not fasted at all and at one stage worried but take very small helpings… Rougrpe Trader you cannot compare our Aussie Chinese with our experience… Tastes are incredible but there are things I won’t touch. Each area we have visited so we are experiencing a range of cuisines.
Am so glad that I really exercised before the trip , wished I had list mire weight as thinner is an advantage… Needless to say I am on a mission.
So many posts to catch up on, intermittent internet access!

PS. I fell off the thread again. Had to sign up. Missed you all for a day. πŸ™„

    Emel,

That’s been our experience of food in China. Fresh vegetables, delicious flavours, very little rice, lots of green tea and beer. Hard to put any weight on if you stick to what the Chinese eat.

    Have fun. Bay πŸ™‚

    G’day Emel
I taught in Bangkok. Similarly, the classes were huge. Some did not have enough desks for all students and the teacher could not even move around the room to get to every student. The Thai teachers threatened students with a stick, but laughed and never used it! Most lessons were rote learning only. Really little choice. A very different situation to our ideas of modern education.
Glad you are enjoying the experience. P πŸ™‚

A lady walked into a drugstore and told the pharmacist she needed some cyanide right away. The pharmacist naturally was concerned by such a request and asked, β€œWhy in the world do you need cyanide?”
The lady then explained that she needed it to poison her husband. The pharmacist’s eyes got big and he said, β€œI can’t give you cyanide to kill your husband! That’s against the law! I’ll lose my license. They’ll throw both of us in jail and all kinds of bad things will happen! Absolutely not! You cannot have any cyanide!”
