  • Morning everone! Weigh in day for me and I am happy to report another 2lbs are history. It is great now that people are starting to comment I have been told I look fantastic, and my weight loss is phenomenal this week. She says with a big grin πŸ™‚

DJ sorry but your poutine doesn’t rock my boat at all, or maple syrup.

I have started on Wii Fit this week, I am hoping to tone up a bit. I like the hula hoop and boxing up to now. I struggle on yoga, my balance is almost non existent. The virtual trainer actually asked me if I trip up a lot. How cheeky!!

Fasting today and liquids only tomorrow. The beach is beckoning, 29 degrees forecast for today. Love this life.

    Morning/evening all.
A beautiful spring morning here πŸ˜›

    I fasted yesterday πŸ˜› πŸ˜›

RT, I have a faster version, open the freezer, take out a tub of previously made meat sauce and nuke it for 4 minutes, pour it over some recently nuked zero noodles and grate over some parmesan, 350 calories πŸ˜‰

    Have a great day/evening everyone.

    Good Morning Fast Trackers,
Well Done All you losers this week, I am green with envy, still not weighing in because I know it will be ‘up’ from medication and suspect no loss this week, maybe next week I will be down a pound. Here’s hoping. Fasting today as I failed at the first hurdle yesterday, carb day, jacket spud for lunch and toast for dinner, it wasn’t massively unhealthy just too much of it, no excuses.

I have two weeks to go to my holiday so I need to really work at it. Off to the gym today, two classes. No rest for the wicked I am going to try very hard to burn 500 calories minimum. I also really need to get back to recording on fitness pal, getting lazy and guessing calories, result- not losing.

Good luck Monday Fasters, keep moving

Very weird, somehow my post got shifted, is that possible I could have sworn I posted prior to JoJo posting about her injured friend, SAMM’s summer plans for the lake, OA’s falling down pants….. Pretty embarrassing, I work in IT but I can’t seem to manage forum posting 101!

All that to say that I would be totally in for a virtual book club as well.

wishing success to everyone on a fast day today. (Mine are Tuesday and Thursday). Be well all.

Posts don’t always show up straight away, and if someone posts while you are typing you won’t see it until you have posted.

I’ve just had a good morning at the gym. They are trying to confuse everyone as they’ve correted all the clocks apart from the one in the pool πŸ˜†

HI all, well have just come back from my French class. It is great fasting on a day that I spent most of the time out and about and then no relapse at night as I was out again.
I have a question for SAMM or anyone else who may know. Does taking cumin daily actually speed up the burning of fat? I read in a magazine last night that a teaspoon of cumin in warm water and lemon juice or just a small amount of yoghurt will activate fat burning? I tend not to look at suggestions such as this but I did wonder?
Am getting quite excited about my trip to China…. just under two weeks!!50 mins at the gym and an hour of Pilates has made me quite tired today!! I likewise am happy to join a virtual book club…

    Hi emel,

Research points to cumin having similar effects to a placebo. It is muted as an anti cancer food, and I’m sure that SAMM will know something about that.

I’ve been to the gym today too and am feeling tired but pleased with myself for doing it. You are obviously fully fit if you’ve done 50 mins plus Pilates, which is fab!

How long will you be in China for?

Golly gosh – 50+ posts to scroll down today to get to one from this thread. Think it’s always busy on a Monday as people start the new WOL and lots choose Monday as first FD of the week.

Sarah, glad to hear you’re joining the hula hooping club, it is quite good fun. I like the way I don’t have to get change or go anywhere to do it. One day I would like to join a gym but I’m almost trying to prove to myself that it will be worth the money by at least keeping by daily hula hooping up.

Also yoga, although I think a lot depends on the teacher. I know whenever our teacher is on hols I find it hard to get used to different teacher but know I’ll have to as he is talking about retiring next year. He is just so gentle and understanding.

FD for me and managed all day on water after an early cup of coffee. For tea had French Toast with marmite, which was a bit of a treat as it’s like comfort food to me but overall less than 400 calories.

Question though – does anyone use one cal spray instead of oil? I’m tempted to in order to keep the calories down, but daren’t look at the ingredients. With my drive for more natural and wholesome ingredients maybe id be better with a couple of teaspoons of olive oil built into calorie count. In fact, now that I’ve shared I think that will be my answer. Although wonder if it could be dry fried. One to experiment with I think.

    CW

    Hi CW,

I suggest you invest in a good quality non stick pan. I have a small one for omelettes and one person dinners, and a large one for cooking larger amounts. I can fry an egg, make an omelette, pancakes, anything at all in fact, without using any oil. The fact that nothing sticks makes them very easy to clean too πŸ™‚

I just use a one cal olive oil spray for steaks. It contains olive oil, water, alcohol and some other stuff like gum & whatnot (go to a supermarket website and type in Onecal, see what it says on the ingredients list). I put about three sprays in the pan & this stops the steak burning, which is easy to do after it has been marinated.

As Amazon says, if it’s something like eggs, as long as the pan is non stick you shouldn’t need any oil.

It is not necessary to use oil in a non stick pan. If the food is burning, the heat is too high.

Good morning fellow fasters πŸ˜€ what a day yesterday was … only 100 calories until the dreaded TimTams (I only had one though, oh yes and two jelly snakes), I’d had an upset tummy throughout the day and finally was feeling more “normal” while out at a meeting and these (and heaps of other sugary things) were on offer but I restricted myself as far as I could although looking back I should not have had any.

FD today, as yesterday was not meant to be one, and there will be NO sugary stuff!!! Normal (for me) day tomorrow followed by another FD on Thursday (going to dinner that night instead of Friday so will reserve everything for the evening meal and will be careful with my choices – not our usual place but another venue so not sure what is choosable until we get there).

Must dash as still need to let the chooks out, get ready and off to work. Ciao for now … AO πŸ˜€

I hate rare steak . If there is blood I just can’t eat it .. I think we all have different tastes

Graham this thread has been an invaluable help to me in my personal weight loss journey. Since I joined it 7 months ago, I have had fantastic support and cyber friendship. In that time there have only been two occasions where someone has said something that upset me, but as it is so easy to misconstrue meaning when not talking face to face, I chose to ignore it and move on. This thread is very successful because all on here are supportive and non judgemental of each other, plus we have a bit of fun along the way. I am sure Amazon is more than able to defend herself, but I just woke up and read your comments and I have to reply as they have upset me so much. I am fairly certain that you wont get any support here if you are so confrontational, and isnt that why we are all here, for mutual support?

Nama I was trying to say much the same thing . We all have different tastes and it was not nice Graham to hurt someones feelings like that . Amazon is a lovely person .

    Wee xx

    Good evening All,

Be nice please everyone, we are all in the same boat, let’s not sink it.

I went out to a social event which had been cancelled and we had not been informed. As it was an hours drive away my friend and I decided to go for a meal instead at a gastro pub. Big mistake – choices very limited and fattening. Settled for sausage and mash with onion gravy. It was delicious but lots of calories so now fasting tomorrow as blown today.

CW – have you considered swinging a kettlebell, very good for building up strength and burning calories. I started swinging 8 lbs and now swing 20 lbs. I do this using a variety of swings for twenty minutes three times per week.

    Sleep well everyone

SOS. Broke my no rice rule – I was rushing home from work then rushing right out again so I bought some sushi. Broke my mindful eating rule as I inhaled said sushi in about 4 minutes. Now I am home, starving, could eat one of the cushions off the couch!! I think I am going to download the fast diet book and read it for distraction – hopefully I will fall asleep soon. Good night all.

In case I’ve missed anyone, no offence intended. As RT says: β€œYou know who you are.”

While marking my TAFE students’ latest plant ID test on Sunday night I concluded that some have cheated. I noticed them hovering together (they were supposed to visit each specimen singly and not cluster) and a group of 5 boys who are all apprentices for the same employer had correct and incorrect answers the same (the latter is the giveaway IMO). Anyway spent most of Sunday night stewing about how to tackle it and felt doubly dreadful yesterday, both very tired and that lead weight inside when I know I’m going to have to do something unpleasant. Came home from work early, snapped at OH then went to bed for an hour but didn’t sleep before dinner, which was early because we were attending our grand-daughter’s first school recorder group concert at 6.30pm. FD so far OK but then very hungry and succumbed to about 150C of salted cashews about 7.30pm (another guilty party with mindless eating DJ). Didn’t exceed 500C but more than I aim for usually.

Could have been much worse, in the bad old days I would have demolished a packet of Tim Tams πŸ™‚

Had made it up with OH by then and told him what was upsetting me. As always he made an eminently rational suggestion which I will adopt when I return the tests on Thursday. Went to bed early last night and slept from 10pm to 5.30am, plenty for me so feel much better today.

Just broken my fast with an orange, with eggs and tomatoes on toast for dinner and should still come in at 350C for the day. Scales only down 300g this morning from my post weekend weigh-in but should improve tomorrow after a better today and another FD on Thursday.

Keep up the good work everyone.

Great work Nicky, all that stress and all you had was a few nuts! Healthy nuts too! And you were still under 500, so pat yourself on the back. Husbands are so useful for rational suggestions aren’t they?

I have just been to the local market (busy, school hols, kids and prams everywhere). Cross with myself for sleeping in and not getting there early enough. And the smells! Very multicultural market and there were fried everything smells wafting everywhere! One of the butchers even had kransky frying….. But I made it home without eating anything, so feeling pleased with myself. I made a huge pot of soup yesterday, so will reward myself with a big bowl tonight. And some lovely fresh salmon.

Its a glorious day here, up to 27 this afternoon. I love autumn weather, sunshine and cool nights. Now to put all the food away – hot cross buns into the freezer before one attacks me!

    Well done, Nicky

It’s so hard at times, isn’t it? Thinking of you in fasting and in work.

    Cheers, Bay πŸ™‚

Just finished an 18 hour water fast with some lovely home made unthickened vegetable soup. πŸ˜‰ Bay

    Hi ya all,
CakeyWakey- Thank you for the message, I have never been to a yoga class, but I like to stretch.
For non stick sprays- I buy pure coconutoil non stick spray it has coconut oil and licathin.
Has anyone used a fitbit before? Is it worth it? Good night everyone.

Hi Sarah, I am using a fit bit and I love it. It was good when two of my friends joined me on a challenge but they have stopped, I use it to get myself moving. I aim for ten thousand steps each day and generally get there or almost get there. It certainly makes me move in the evening If I have not moved much. Frustrating aspect is that if you work on a stepper the steps are not measured accurately but that is ok, I think each model is getting more sophisticated.

Glorious Autumn weather here today. Perfect for a fast before Easter. πŸ˜‰ Bay

    Hi Bay,

I am knuckling down with a “boot camp” 5:2 version this week in anticipation of the Easter eating! Great golf weather for those so inclined…

    Good morning guys,
Up late and off to bowls and gym.
Determined to be good on my fast today, give me strength. It’s all uphill at the moment. I have a Fitbit but haven’t got it working yet. Wiwi uses one.

I reported offensive and personal post, should be removed.

    Have a great day all

    Hi Fast Trackers

Welcome DJ- are you an English speaking Quebecois? No fish and chip in France where I live for 6 months of the year- but tartiflette (potatoes, cheese and bacon) is my weakness.
I am enjoying being with my grandchildren in Rome, today we are in sole charge as both parents are working) The pizza was great, but I can wait for another. Next cappacino scheduled for tomorrow.

I love my fitbit. There is one downside however- if you change time zones, you always have to calculate local time. I have the fitbit charge which shows floors climbed. But I have bought the version surge with GPS for OH’s next birthday- a real boy’s toy!

I would love to be in the book club, JoJo. One downside of our life style that it’s not easy to be in a book club.

    Happy fasting.
    xx Wiwi

    Hi Nama

Boot camp version of 5:2 ? What does this entail? Water only and lots of hard exercise? πŸ˜‰
Fabulous golfing weather. Hope to play some golf over Easter, as well as orienteer.

    Cheers, Bay πŸ™‚

Hi again Bay, I thought you would ask me! Its just my super strict version when I need to knuckle down and I decided to follow it for four days straight this week. I skip breakfast and lunch then have home made veg soup with a tiny serve of chicken or fish, then one piece of fruit for supper. Probably max 300 cals for the day, including the milk in my coffees. Lots of water and coffee sustain me through the day. I have only ever done it 2 days running but thought I would try for four days this week as Easter promises to be an eat fest (Jamieson, family etc). Its low on calories but plenty of nourishment in the soup. Also trying to do an hours exercise (swimming or walking) every day. Not much on socially this week so it seemed a good opportunity. I find its actually easier the less you eat, obviously the stomach gets used to being empty. It will be interesting to see how much weight I lose. I wouldn’t do this regularly as I think there would be a risk of developing an eating disorder, but as an occasional experiment is ok. Enjoy your golf and orienteering! x

I like the sound of your 5:2 boot camp Nama. I find a 350 calorie day, ending with a nourishing homemade soup, then a liquids only day, every week is working for me. I can’t try your version this week as lots of our neighbours are out here for Easter. Many have these as holiday homes. Mucho socialising happening as some are not here for long.

    It’s a hard life πŸ™‚

Applepie thats the beauty of this eating plan isn’t it? So adaptable to fit it around our lives and still lose weight. Where exactly do you hail from (sorry if I missed you telling us). It must be the US by your name!

    Morning/evening all.

Nama good luck with your boot camp. I tried 4 days B2B2 once got as far as the 4th evening then had to eat something. With the benfit of hindsight, I didn’t have enough to keep me occupied, and would try it again if I felt the need. Let us know how you get on, and if you are having an Easter weekend full of socialising it will make you feel less guilty and you’ll probably not overeat at all!

I woke up feeling unwell this morning. I though it might have been a touch of hayfever when I was sneezing all over the place yeaterday, but it might be a bit of a chill, so I’m staying home and drinking lots of fluids.
    Perfect for a FD.
    Have a good one everybody.

Nama I am originally from Manchester, England but have lived in beautiful, sunny Spain for almost 3 years. My name is down to my very unattractive apple shape, but I have to say I am looking less like an apple everyday. Yes, love the way we can adapt this WOL to what suits us.

Amazon I am sure you already know but fresh ginger chunks with lemon in hot water may help.

Good morning everyone . We are all doing so well . I hope you are all proud of yourselves . Its good now when people have a blip we get it out here and get on with it .

I love it is AWOL and we can work everything around what we do in the week .

It is snowing here again today . I thought we had seen the last of the snow brrrr.

We don’t visit Dad today as our eldest son is going to see him . I am going to get more of my BIG πŸ™‚ clothes out of the way . Ross old bedroom looks as if a hurricane has hit it lol .

have a nice day all of you and keep up the good work . I keep saying it but I will say it again I LOVE THIS WOL

    Wee xx

    Hello All

Sadly, I couldn’t resist the siren call of the fridge last night. It wasn’t a FD, but I am sure I ate well above TDEE. I am working very hard at breaking my night time binging habit and to date have been very successful, I am really annoyed with myself.

Sarah, I also use a Fitbit and I love it. With the eternal winter we have had, and are still having in Montreal, I’m still not inclined to go walking, but with the Fitbit I have been happy to realize how many stairs I climb per day, and have now added a daily routine of going up and down my inside stairs (15 steps) 10 times a day as well as all the regular stair climbing I do.

Nama I love the 5:2 boot camp idea. I am still struggling to get a good rhythm going with the 5:2 plan, but it’s a good trick to file away for later.

Wiwi I am english Quebecois, and to my eternal shame still not completely bilingual. Both my sons are and I am working hard at it, but I have always struggled with trying to learn a different language. I was brought up just as the quiet revolution was starting, so there were no French immersion schools in those days.

FD for me, after last night’s blow-out I determined to do well today. Have a great day/evening all.

Oh Wee you always make me chuckle! For a minute I thought you said you were going AWOL! Don’t your dare, we would miss you too much! Have fun with those old clothes.

Amazon I will keep you posted. So far so good, 2 days down ok. Early to bed tonight though, tired from extra exercise and also easiest way of keeping out of the kitchen. Son’s girl wanted me to teach her how to use a sewing machine, so the last two evenings have been “sewing lessons”, lots of fun. Luckily she is a fast learner, she has discovered functions on my machine I didn’t know existed! Sorry to hear you are under par, good idea to lie low and let your body recover. I am a big believer in Vit C, 1000mg slow release at first sign of a sore throat. I hope you are feeling much better soon.

ApplePie you still sound American to me! (joking). I have only been to Spain once but loved it, especially the people! We were tired from being tourists and when we got to Barcelona we asked the locals where we could go for some peace and quiet. They directed us to the Costa Brava (Tossa del Mar) and we had a few glorious days of relaxing on the beach and eating in outdoor cafes. That was many years ago, its probably much busier now. Your Easter sounds like fun.

DJ don’t beat yourself up – we all “blow it” regularly. Have a great FD today, and be patient with yourself. I lost 3-4 Kgs/month initially but after about 4 months it slowed to 2 Kgs/month. I could have become a bit complacent and lazy with counting calories, not sure. But hoping shock tactics will get the fat burners revved up again, nothing to lose by trying. You are right, get basic 5:2 established before you experiment too much.

Amazon I hope you feel better soon pal .
I have a tip that some of you might already know .

I have RA and sometimes my hands just won’t do what they need to do and I hate peeling veg . I found a tip on the web . Instead of peeling a turnip . We call the purple skinned ones with the yellow inside turnips . You put it in the microwave as it is with skin and all . Put it on full power for about 15 mins ,then turn it over and do it for about another 15 minutes . It says cut off the top and scoop it out but I like to quarter it and put the quarter in a cloth to hold it and do it that way . I have it with half a pouch of the hairy Bikers cooing sauce mixed in and it is gorgeous . I hope that made sense lol .

You will hear it whistling or singing as it cooks lol

    Wee xx

LOL Nama I had put AWOL πŸ™‚ . I must need to get out of the house lol xx

    Good day all,
Fantastic game this morning, kept up with the club expert as my opposition, only down by 2 points, felt really proud.

Off to the gym soon but dogs to walk first, we have sunshine here, bloody windy but great to see a few rays. Sorry you still have snow Weemam.

Amazon – wize woman, keep hydrated. If you were closer I would give you some chicken broth I made last night. Such a huge pot it will last me at least a month.

Fast going well today after yesterday’s disaster. Going to a friends to see a Canadian film tonight. It will be snack hell so taking fruit and water.

    Speak later. Be good everyone.

Thanks everyone, it’s only a snivel but I don’t want to to get worse.
I thought about getting some fresh air until my neighbour’s parked motorcycle was blown over by the wind!

Interesting but useless fact, Apple pie was invented in England in the 14th century πŸ˜›

I like it hot with custard!

The socialising has begun …. on my liquids only day! I have just been to say hello to a newly arrived neighbour and was offered a chilled glass of white wine and strawberries with ice cream. It looked so delicious but I resisted! How good am I??

    Tomorrow is another day ……

I have had so much fun today . I have been looking out some of my big clothes . I hate they have to go BUT I am floating on a cloud lol .

I am so tired of taking things out of the wardrobe and having to look for something else .Not complaining though πŸ™‚ I found another top and trousers 22/24 and tried them on together . I was keeping the trousers for my ” painting trousers” but they fell down and Jim could have got in them with me .

He was laughing and asked why the were NOT going in the too big bundle BUT I want to keep them so I can remind myself how far I have come .

I just can’t get it into my head what size I am now .

Jim bought me the most glitzy fancy bracelet the first Christmas after we met . I was 16 . I was actually pleased it didn’t fit as I would have hated to hurt his feelings . IT FITS now . I still won’t wear it though but Jumping with joy πŸ™‚

So sorry if this is too much bragging but I feel so so so great.

    Wee xx

    Well done Wee!

I think that it takes quite sometime for the mind to catch up with how the new body looks. Keep some old clothes as a reminder, but also get some new ones to enjoy how far you have come. I am a charity shop convert now-true recycling.

It’s not bragging…it is sharing your success. Enjoy and continue jumping, think of the calories!

Oh Dear, I have new contact lenses and now can’t read my phone messages. Ipad is ok because I can make the words huge. So I will only be sending messages after lenses removed at night. I guess I will need to get reading glasses. Oh dear, how silly!

Have you considered varifocal contact lenses?

Happy last day of March everyone!

Had my final weigh in of March and I’m down a whopping 2 lbs for the month. Oh well..I’ve enjoyed myself and there’s 2 lbs less of me! Score! I’ll be lucky to maintain in April as I’ll be on vacation for 10 days of the month. Oh well…life happens!

Last day of March and I’m looking out my office window at a blizzard! Huge snowflakes have been falling for well over an hour. What a mess! This doesn’t bode well for me getting out on the golf course anytime soon. πŸ™ Spring??HAHA!!

I think I’m trying to catch the “plague” that the husband is just getting over. I was really hoping he wouldn’t share. I felt quite rough this morning but actually feel a bit better this afternoon. Maybe my body has stepped up and fought the germs back!

Bring on April and some sunshine!

    Hi Lori

We’ve got sunshine but it comes with gale force winds!!!!!
Some spring sunshine with a blue sky and a light breeze would be very welcome indeed.

2lbs down is a step in the right direction. April has 30 days so you should be able to maintain even with a 10 day vacation. As SAMM says, keep on keepin on πŸ˜›
