  • Third time lucky: about the NHS guidelines, I was startled too by the huge range of acceptable weight for my age and height but in a good way. My doctor has suggested 60kgs as a good weight to aim for and I have 3 to go. It’s at the top end of the NHS recommendations as I’m 5′ 4″ and 66 years old. So I was quite pleased I didn’t have too far to go.

I have been 80kgs so I’m on the last lap really. This 5:2 diet is really helping. I had come to a complete stop whatever I tried.

It sounds like you’re doing really well. As is everybody. Such an inspiration. I wish I’d known about this diet earlier. I’m looking forward to being able to wear my old skirts when the autumn term starts instead of elasticated trousers. The students will be in shock.

Well done lifesabeach, 11 lbs since July is impressive. Just keep doing what you’re doing and you will continue to reduce weight. I started end of January at 10 St 11lbs. For my small 5ft 1/2″ that’s way too much. I am now 9st 8.5 lbs, heading for 9 St eventually . Taking the challenge in small doses is better for me as I don’t tend to lose a lot at one time. Slow and steady wins the race for me. My whole attitude to portion sizes has changed. I always ate healthily , but just too much . I have recently given up carbs which has helped enormously. Just occasionally I miss a piece of cake, but indulging in a meringue now and again satisfies me. Please keep the lousy weather down south, we’ve had our fair share of rubbish up here. In Scotland. Seems like we’ve had a very very wet and windy spring since April!
Wow, Action, no loss for you this week? That’s a new one? Love your attitude in dealing with the result . I would have been in a heap and really angry at myself! At least you know what to do to get that belt in another notch.
Managed a 1000 call day yesterday, and am trying for the same today . I’m determined to get to 9.5 St this month. Want to start off on the right foot with our new team leader for September !
Have a great weekend everyone. Onwards and downwards! TTL

Hello, out there, my family of fasters!

So many great stories I got to read through, since I haven’t been around much this week (getting my elderly mom on hospice, plus post surgery recovery). You guys do so well at motivating each other, you hardly need me! I apologize for not being there more, and thanks especially to Action Hero for stepping up our game!

By my calculations, it looks like our fair lady is up to about 46 lbs. Yeah, few gains amongst us, but that is part of the learning curve. And use it to reconfirm your commitment to yourself. Two steps forward for every one step back.

I was amazed to lose 1 this week. I did 3 good fast days with 18-19 hour total fasts, then did 16:8 the rest of the week. I would have lost more if I hadn’t succumbed to a half gallon of ice cream! But I think my key is that I can’t deprive myself. As long as I keep the daily fast to at least 16 hours and no carbs the rest, I can have a daily indulgence. Especially lately, life is too short to go completely without.

I am so looking forward to September’s Challenge! Yep, it’s gonna be a bear, as we all know, but after a month of half-assing it, I need my butt kicked! Only 15 lbs to go to get to my goal, and they are the hardest ones yet! We can all do it together, though. So, one more week to go…let’s stay focused, maybe try something different. When you wake up every day, test yourself. How long can you go before that first bite? When you feel that tummy rumble, look at the clock, think of AH standing there with his September whip cracking, and say to yourself, I can go one more hour, then JUST DO IT! Try that every day, just for the last week. My personal challenge to each of you. And see what happens. What have you got to lose?? Yep….inches, pounds, and unhealthy habits!

    Enjoy your weekend, everyone!

Hi All you Amazing People, trust your end of week is going as well as mine.

It’s Sunday morning here in wonderful New Zealand and life is good in God’s Own Country. All you Scot’s rugby fans, I read in the local news here last week that not only do you guys have a Kiwi Coach, you are now “pinching” some of our up and coming star players, John Hardie. That’s a bit rough isn’t it???

TTL, thanks for your comments about Portion Sizes, this is such an important aspect of maintaining good food habits, and if we can make it a natural outcome for a new WOL then life will be so much more easier in not returning to the old bloated outcomes. We were out for Dinner last evening and the Fillet Steak I had was amazing, a beautiful size however it came on a herb and garlic mash potatoe base and a very rich mushroom and pepper sauce. Portion sizes were perfect however calorie counts were a disaster so it’s a 20 hour fast for me today with only a lite soup and crusketts for a snack at dinner time tonight. Don’t we make life interesting for ourselves !!!

Fitnfast, I have realised the impact that those Fasting hours do have between meals or eating periods. As you say, every hour that food is postponed is one more hour of calorie burning so it’s just got to be good for the results. I not a natural “butt kicker” normally however I’m sure we can come to some arrangement next month.

So everyone, lets make these last 8 days the best 8 days for our results this month and when we all weigh in on the 31st we can end the month with a very satisfied smile on our faces knowing that we are all amazing and can stick to a plan that see those goals kicked and our loved ones congratulate us for being the best we have been for months.

Hi everyone, Since Wednesday I have been visiting my daughter and will not be able to weigh until my return home on 2 September. Since I arrived here I have been indulging in some home bakes and chocolate, always feeling guilty while doing so which obviously ruins the pleasure of the indulgence, so why do I do it? After reading all the posts since Wednesday (difficult getting online), I know that I will not be indulging again as I want to be able to donate to Miss Muffin Top some of my muffin top and help this Challenge Team to success. Everyone’s posts are motivating and inspiring and I will JUST DO IT!!! We can overcome the temptations. Onwards and downwards we will go. Have a great day everyone. Ray.

Just checked back to July challenge, and at this point in the month we had reduced by a collective 63 lbs.
Finishing the month on 95 lbs. which Lardy Lad carried out the door for us. Think maybe we have all had a lot of socialising and holidays to contend with during August, but we are lagging behind a bit, just 46 lbs gone to date. Final effort this week to load up Miss Muffin Top –

I have a family lunch out today which could be a big one. Thought I would have a light breakfast. 7 prunes and a glass of three freshly squeezed oranges, and tea – total 241 cals. YIKES,, where did they come from.
    Looks like salad for lunch!

Have a great Sunday everyone, and gird your loins for the last week! TTL

Goodness TTL, that’s not a very healthy progress report is it plus I think we are a bigger group than July also, maybe some still have to report in for the month, just thinking. Maybe these next 7 days will see the flab simply melt away LOL

Hi Everyone, me again, filling in time and ignoring the little nagging voice in my head telling me my stomach is complaining about me not feeding it as much as I used to and it could be considered as neglect and abandonment LOL

Seeing as it’s almost the end of the month and we all have another new month to prepare for and someone nominated ME to take charge of all you amazing people and keep everyone on track, how about a little bit of HOMEWORK to prepare for these next memorable 30 days.

Like everyone in this Forum I enjoy immensely reading all the daily posts however I have an ongoing problem remembering where everyone is writing from. How about everyone going into their Profile and doing a little Edit to include where you live (City and Country) plus a significant goal you wish to achieve say by the end of the year. Then when anyone wants to refresh their memory “who is this amazing person who has just posted a 5lbs weight reduction for the week” we can click on the name and see who you are and where you are posting from.

Just a thought, we are spread all around the world and it’s nice to know we are not alone on our journeys. Any thoughts ???

Great idea AH! Mind you anything is a great idea today because I’m down another 1.2kg this morning. Amazing how positive that feeling is when you get on the scales and you have lost. Was thinking of changing my weigh in day to Wednesday because I always weigh more on a Monday (after the weekend and my last fast day would have been the Wednesday before). I suppose as long as it’s the same day each week. What do other people do? Weigh in after fast day? Weigh in after non fast day? Would love to hear your thoughts! Have a great last week of August!

Hi Slim2be, does it really matter what day you report your successes, a week is a week is a week, maybe do an update on the 31st for a final figure if you want a full month finish figure and the start for the next month, completely over to you is my thought.

An excellent idea – I have updated mine!
Looking forward to a new month and renewed goals – had a bit of a splurge while away for a couple of days in Limerick – boy did my body tell me in no uncertain terms it didn’t like it. Reminded me of a saying ‘Eat foods that will love you back’! Note to oneself to remember that in future. Hopefully there will not too much damage on the scales – weigh in tomorrow evening. Will then report my last weigh in on Tuesday 1 September ready to begin September with renewed vigour. So this week I will keep a careful eye on everything and put in a final push.
Must say how much I appreciate being part of this group – I feel the belief!

Yes… a new month and a new beginning.
I am a bit remiss on the weighing cos of not owning a set of scales but will have fat to donate to MT by the end of the month.. I feel lighter tho.
You’ll be pleased to know I did ” step away from the cake” Was getting my hair cut that day so brought the cake in and donated it to the staff. Funny tho how, if you deviate on a fast day, it makes you just want to go wild with eating. I just ate my normal fasting supper and let the cake be an extra.
Is anyone up for adding a 30 day challenge to September…. perhaps the plank or the squat? I started the LBD 30 day challenge but due to a bit of a weird schedule, I went random on it (translation… due to a lack of willpower, I gave up) Might be better with a bit of planky companionship?

Silversue… Whisper the words elasticated trousers..my nightmare…I wore some when I was pregnant, they were so comfortable but so WRONG.. I had to be persuaded to abandon them when my children were unforgivably old. I can bear to rock the smock but would love a skirt that wasn’t in danger of slicing thru my spleen every time I even look at a biscuit. Perhaps by the end of Sept.

Hi Coda, well done for taking up the idea, I looked up where Comber is and waved to you. You have set a great goal to achieve for next year, maybe have 3 or 4 clear milestones along the way, break the big goal down into say monthly or 2 monthly targets so you can measure the progress along the way and the whole end result doesn’t slip away after a couple of “bad weeks” which we all have.

Start with September and set a realistic figure to reduce for that month then each month until May the whole task will become a lot less daunting if the “Big Picture” of the total by May 2016 seems over whelming, just a thought to make the whole journey enjoyable and reassuring because little reductions all add up to big ones.

Ms Marple: funny you should mention it but I was thinking of doing the plank challenge starting today. Shall we go for it?
My other non-official challenge is one hour in the pool twice a week. Because it’s boring I slipt it up into 45 mins swim and 15 mins walking and exercise.
I can see the elasticated trousers (ETs) fading into the distance!

Sorry, Ms Marple, misread your post.

Yes, let’s wait and start in September if you like.

Yes, should just start now but I love putting things off…I mean.. starting things at the beginning of the month!

Got this in my in box today. It’s about exercise but also quite a good theory to apply to anything… Tiny gains… tho in our case should be tiny losses.

    http://jamesclear.com/tiny-gains-challenge-2015?__s=ikfmsdrnmvvqwgsso5nz

Oops don’t know if that worked.

Fast day today… got my cauliflower rice up and ready so no cake based temptation in the house.

Another pound off for Miss MT – four in total and I’m SURE there’ll be another by the end of the month… I feel my weight loss has been agonisingly slow this month but hey, 4 (maybe 5) pounds – I will take that…
I’m a daily weigher which it what makes it seem slow, all the uppy downies, but in spite of other advice I find it is the one thing which makes me think ‘well you can eat that (insert something yummy) if you like but it will show on the scales in the morning!’ I fear if I don’t keep that check I might allow myself more licence than I already do (and believe me that’s plenty)! After more than a half century of practising (and perfecting) eating, I know myself too well alas.
I have also hit 200 pounds on the way down…I remember hitting this milestone on the way out and thinking how could I weigh 200 pounds!!! As it turned out, it took almost two more stone to get the brake on and turn it around, but hey, here we are, feeling fab and looking well, quite warm. For the time of year.

Going for 18 hours today….just hit 16…2 more to go

    Hi All

I have been missing in action for a while, and it has taken me a while to catch up on all the posts. I will never be able to respond to all of them, but was so happy to read that you stepped away from the cake MsMarple. AH and TTL all your posts are so motivating!

So there is the bad news and the good news as to why I have been absent. The good news is that by following this WOL and loosing 22 lbs, I finally gained enough confidence to pluck up the courage to join an on-line dating service for those over 50. Well, I have been stunned at the response and have spent much of August in a whirlwind of dates. After having kissed several frogs, I have found not one, but two princes. This is very difficult as it is quickly coming to the time that I have to choose, before either relationship begins to get serious, and I simply can’t!

The bad news is that I ended up in hospital this past Sunday and was being treated for what seemed to be a severely infected foot. I had received several doses of IV antibiotics (which were having no effect at all), until they finally got the blood work and cultures back. No infection! Guess what they finally came up with as a diagnosis – Gout! I had a fit, how could I possible have gout when I live such a healthy lifestyle? It turns out a precipitating factor for gout can be low dose aspirin, which I have been taking for close to 6 months.

I am home now, and am on anti-inflammatory and morphine for the pain – it truly is excruciating, I am actually starting to have some empathy for Henry VIII. I have been in so much pain, I haven’t been able to eat since Sunday, so I am simply staying on top of my fluids and am waiting for the anti-inflammatory to kick in. So bad news is I can barely walk, let alone exercise, good news is that without even trying I have been on a 4 day fast! After doping myself up with a dose of morphine this morning, I got on the home scales which showed 122.9 lbs. If they are to be believed that is a 4 lb loss this week and puts me below goal. So TTL, I tentatively am donating 4 lbs to miss muffin top this week. I think it is close to accurate, as I immediately put on my “goal” dress. Not only does it fit, it is a little loose around the waist. Anyway, enough babbling on.

Congratulations to those who lost last week and commiserations with those who didn’t. I think though, at this high time of social functions we all have a lot to be proud of!

PS Silversue, I was on day 18 or so of the plank challenge when this hit. It is tough, but worth it – I see an enormous difference in the size of my belly.

    Hi all
Sadly a little gain this week + .4 kg but whereas b 4 I would have just given up I know what to do and realise all is not lost. Hopefully I will have lost it again by next week, and some, to make my goal of 2 kg for this month.
Thank you AH I will set some mini goals – by Halloween I will be ? and by Christmas I will be ?. My next goal however is to loose 2.5 kg by end of September. I waved back but you may have been sleeping lol.
Final push everyone for the last week!
Hope you are feeling better DJ and soon the correct choice will be made!
    Nite all.

Hi everyone, late in posting after fast day yesterday. Had quit a few days eating with family/friends, I was so glad to be able to shut it down for a while. First lunch out I chose chicken kebab with salad, but the wine mounted up,, then yesterday I checked something off my bucket list that I had been wanting to do for years. Took a boat out to The May Island in the Firth of Forth. It was a lovely sunny day,, but of course the North Sea can be rough at the best of times. Needless to say half the people on the boat were throwing up. So glad I decided to stick to my FD, no breakfast or lunch , so had no problems. Took a flask oh bone broth with us on the island which did the trick. Blew it all when we got back to Anstruther! Anyone who knows the area will know you can’t visit Anstruther without having a fish supper! Delicious!!! Couldn’t manage a pudding. (Ahem) of course I was over my 500 cals. That showed as a 1/4lb gain from last week (amazed it wasn’t more) but a great time was had by all, and well worth every mouthful.
Back to business now. Just a few days left to unload 2 lbs so need to get cracking.
Well done Kate, the pounds are just melting away. Ouch DJ, Your foot problems sound agonising. There seems to be a few of us with foot/leg problems. Isn’t that a sign of being fearful of moving forward?!
Nothing to be afraid of, just follow Dr M and keep sharing with this lovely group of people and we will all get through it together.
After all, Action is taking over soon – got to be fit and healthy when he gets the whip out!
Good night all. Hoping for a fourth consecutive sunny day tomorrow – wow, summer has finally arrived in Scotland TTL.

Morning all (or evening to you guys up north) a beautiful sunny day here in NZ. To all our Canadian friends, did you notice our Kiwi Girl won your Woman’s Golf Cup again (3rd win in 4 years)

Wow some great recent posts above, DJ, you have certainly had your share of good/bad luck. Congratulations on the relationship stakes, commisserations for the health issues, take it quietly and let the drugs work.

Coda, well done on the mini goals, I know it will give you better focus and encouragement but don’t set yourself up to fail, it’s better to achieve and exceed a small target rather than miss a big hairy audacious goal and be disappointed. Small realistic targets are great because when achieved you feel really good within yourself and it’s a great reason to celebrate with a personal reward for doing it rather than beat yourself up because you failed to meet it.

TTL, I had a Google look at May Island, it looks “interesting”, lots of old stuff to explore, pretty exposed and on a nice day I imagine quite glorious. Now about next month, I’m really just a pussy cat when it comes to my people skills, I’m a great believer that if the resolve and the intentions are strong enough then we can achieve anything we set our minds to, if the time is right then YOU and only YOU can kick the goals, make the reasons to achieve the results strong enough then it just happens. Surrounding ourselves with like minded people and making ourselves accountable to them for staying committed is just a bonus and takes some of the pain away when times get a little tough. We can use our network to help getting back on the programme and use their encouragement to stay there.

I don’t actually have a whip TTL, maybe we could introduce a cyber spanking for anyone who needs one, however if we all make the September rewards for achievement very personal and meaningful then the need for spankings won’t be there. So start thinking about your September goal(s) and better still what reward will you give yourself when on 30 Sept you can say YES YES YES, I did that so now I’m going to go out and…. (buy that size 12 whatever, new golf club, favorite bottle of wine….) whatever rocks your boat and makes all the efforts so much better.

DJ’s story above about her 22lbs reduction and some new found romance is a great example. Now some of our OH’s might not agree with that if we set that as a Sept reward, however I’m sure we all have something as exciting if we thought hard enough so let’s tell each other not only what our Sept goal is, let’s share what our rewards are going to be too.

Oh, gout is awful! I had an attack years ago but luckily the pain meds kicked in really quickly.
Ever since I’ve been very careful about foods and drinks that aggravate it and I’ve never had another attack.

    It is SOOO painful!

I got sick Friday and was down in the dumps. I had 1.5 lbs to report. I am hoping I do not gain them all back this week. Wish me luck. Any inspiration is welcome at wilmarieclark@gmail.com. Have been feeling truly crappy. Thanks all.

Hi All and especial DJ, we are both in sick bay – the cat sit went brilliantly, the weather glorious so decided to make it a holiday, good food and good wine, a total of 5 lbs gained – dear me! Fell ill on the last night, very ill, looong trip home and straight to A&E, end up with gall bladder out – and – an 8lb loss in a week.

So 3lbs to add to the total, and I’m retiring to the sidelines.

See you all in September and tuck your chins in in the meantime, not long now to the end of the month!!

    Hi All
Reading all about your fantastic stories, achievements and weight losses has really spurred me on to start 5:2 – well done to you all! I’ve got some books to collect from the library and am raring to go! I’m counting down to my wedding (not until April 2017) but I’d like to loose 30lbs slow and steady (always wins the race)! Will be going dress shopping in 11 months time and would love to be very close to my target by then and have 5:2 as a way of life! Can I join for September please?!!!!

That’s a bit dramatic Milena, getting sick and having an operation to drop 8lbs for the week, I haven’t read that Chapter in the book !!!!

Boglett (cute name) you are most welcome to join the group, there are no rules, just good old fashioned support and inspiration welcomed from anyone who wants to contribute. We will record a starting weigh in at 1 September then monitor everyones progress during the month with a nice big group total kicked out the door on 30 Sept.

Some interesting facts about fat production and storage, from “Good calories, Bad Calories”:

By the mid-1960s, four facts had been established beyond reasonable doubt: (1) carbohydrates are singularly responsible for prompting insulin secretion; (2) insulin is singularly responsible for inducing fat accumulation; (3) dietary carbohydrates are required for excess fat accumulation; and (4) both Type 2 diabetics and the obese have abnormally elevated levels of circulating insulin and a “greatly exaggerated ” insulin response to carbohydrates in the diet, as was first described in 1961 by the Johns Hopkins University endocrinologists David Rabinowitz and Kenneth Zierler.

Hi Fit , yes pretty much the same reading in The Real Meal Revolution book. Carbs are the problem with holding on to weight. If you google carbohydrate foods, you will be amazed what is listed. Most people forget that sugar is also a carb, and it’s in everything pretty much. I have always posed the question. If you took all foods and drinks off the supermarket shelves that contain carbs, what would be left to buy? Answer NOT MUCH!
Have also read,, Don’t buy anything with a label on it, as it will contains carbs!

The sad thing is, we are pretty much feeding our children this way which is really just setting them up for a life of dieting one way or another . Oh well, at least we all will have the answer to that problem – just tell them about 5:2.

Was at Aquafit this morning, a really good workout. Home to chicken salad, then fish for dinner tonight. Hope to keep today to another 1000 cal day. Out for lunch tomorrow so am moving my FD to Friday this week.
Well Action, or should I say ‘what’s new pussy cat?’ No whips eh? Don’t know about cyber slaps, sometimes I just need a good boot up the arse! We’ll see how we go in September, but I’m sure with your words of wisdom you will keep all us ladies in line. What’s happened to your buddy? Have all us females frightened him away. If you’re lurking do join us, I’m sure Mike would appreciate your company.
Milena, well that’s one way of dealing with overeating! How will that affect your food intake now? Will you have to say bye bye to the vino? Here’s hoping all our invalids get well soon, we have a September challenge to get into gear.

Last week of August – lets get Miss Muffin loaded up and out the door ! Good luck all TTL

PS: summer has def arrived in Scotland, sun is shining and it’s p…..g down with rain!

I’m still around, but neither up nor down for the month, I don’t think, as we’ve had so much social activity that I seem to gain back what I lose on the fast days every week. It’s hard to be moderate and stick to the TDEE when you’re at birthday parties, dinners to celebrate your own wedding, and other social outings where the temptations and excuses abound. But I am still religiously sticking to the fast days, and gradually learning my lessons about the other days.

DJ757575, I found my guy online. We’ve been together almost three years now and it couldn’t be better. I’ve talked to people who’ve had less than successful experiences. I met a few duds, but also several interesting people, and I had fun!

Thought some of you might be interested in an article I wrote for the Cranky Fitness blog. It was posted on Monday. It’s called “Becoming the Person I Want to Be (Instead of the One I was afraid I would Become)” and it’s here: http://www.crankyfitness.com/2015/08/fat-and-fiction-guests-and-giveaways.html

Still keeping my fingers crossed for a contribution to Ms. Muffin Top! Till soon.

Hey little voices! Hope everyone is having a good August and good results also.

Mary I’ve just read your article, really enjoyed it. Some great images and motivation to not lose track of who we want to be. Definitely want to kick some damaging habits that are not feeding my true self off a cliff!

I’ve been out of touch this month and annoyingly regained some pounds! A wedding at start of month and a holiday has led to an indulgence of alcohol and sweet treats. So here I am looking to be more focussed for here on out. Schools go back on Tuesday, normal routines begin.

My best month was July and I really enjoyed it. As I felt like I was feeding my body(engine) right and in return I felt better and looked better. Also it felt natural, like I wasn’t on a diet. 16:8 definitely works better for me.

4 days left of this month and I am aiming to budge those regained pounds back off (a cliff) then bring on super September and I would also like to incorporate plank challenge to boost inch loss.

I am now going to read so many of your missed posts. Wishing you all good health 🙂

    Hi

Read the article Mary and you got my attention so just put the book on my wish list on Amazon. Have to wait till I need a few things so I qualify for free posting.

My goal is to loose .500 g a week which is doable and don’t think I am setting the bar too high. If I don’t quite loose .500 g one week I may make up the next. I will be getting the tape measure out again soon (planning on once a month) so even if I don’t quite make the 2 kg for August (there are a few days to go so I may get there yet) my waistband seems looser so I may have lost in other ways that the scale does not show. Remember the number on the scale does not define me!

    Hello Skinnies,

Fast day number 2, really enjoying it today… agree with other posters, once you get used to it, it’s actually quite a buzz.
Also, knowing I can eat the next day makes restricting calories so do-able. Feel lighter, not just weight wise but conceptually too.

Pleased to see a planking sub group beginning to form, I am starting to do a bit of pre Sept training in preparation.
There are lots of other exercises on the 30 Day challenge if anyone else wants to join in.. squats anyone?
Must find scales before the end of August so I can see if I have anything to off load on Ms MT. Not seeing aged parent this weekend….perhaps there are paying scales in Boots.

    Love to all, Ms M

Decided to move my FD To tomorrow as I was out for lunch with friend. No breakfast, then just a bowl of soup for lunch (didn’t fancy anything else) then decided I might as well have today as my fast day, so revised the salmon dinner to fit. What a great WOE. Just change things to suit the day (as long as you get the two FD’s in a week, it doesn’t matter when.) total cals for the day 410.

Will see what the scales say tomorrow. May have to sneak in another FD to reach goal by Monday. Fingers crossed. TTL

    Hi all you good people.
I have been off line (read away in Melbourne eating, drinking, seeing the David Bowie is exhibition among other things). Home again and Spring seems to have sprung – weather is stunning, apricot tree covered in blossom and garlic poking its head above ground.

Have caught up on most of the posts and so pleased everyone is feeling positive even if results aren’t always what’s hoped for (I know that feeling). Lailmarie, hope you climbed out of the dumps without breaking out of 5:2.

Will weigh in on the last day of August/1st September and have made myself a plan for that month. As a fellow Kiwi I can’t let AH down! I will add my profile before 1 Sept and set down goals as part of that – aim to keep myself honest.

Good luck everyone for the last few days.

MaryWWriter, you are my new hero! I loved your story and will read book this weekend, since it is free on my Kindle unlimited. I love your dry wit and humour! My writing is always so darned serious!

Only a few days to go, guys, then we are off into September! Can we give it a final push and eliminate a few more pounds from ourselves? I detect a good fasting weekend coming up, starting tonight after dinner, all the way to Monday morning. Anyone else??

Looking forward to what our final number will be!

Yup, will definitely have to sneak in another fast day. Tomorrow methinks. Been a bit up and down this week and have ended up where I was last week at 9st 9lbs so nothing for miss Muffin I’m afraid. Still 2 lbs short of target for Monday. Am cutting down most days now and aiming for 1000 cal days (give or take), but do wonder if I’m actually eating enough. I def don’t want to plateau when I am so close to target. Will get August out of the way, and then rethink. Time to read THE BOOK again!
Well done on your book MaryWwriter. It’s funny how you get a mental picture of what people look like, your photo was really nice, and you already look quite slim!

Have a good day everyone, final push to load up Miss Muffin, before we start on Action Heros little baby. TTL

Thanks for all your positive feedback on my article, fellow 5:2-ers. None of us could do any of this alone.

It’s been a plateau-y kind of month for me with some discouraging ups, despite sticking to the fast days: I was eating too much on the NF days, I guess. I’ve tried to toe the line this week and as of this a.m. I have 3.5 lbs to contribute to Miss Muffin for August. I don’t have any more fast days until Monday, so the trick will be to keep my weight down where it is now until the end of Monday.

TTL: I have always carried my weight around my hips, so my face has never looked pudgy. I still have quite a bit to lose in the hip and belly area, but it’s a lot better than it was. My big worry is getting my lower body to goal weight and finding that my face looks like something out of an anorexia-warning ad.

At today’s weight, I’m down 23.5 on 5:2 since the end of April, and when you take into account a slow loss that I managed to accomplish the year before I started 5:2, I’m down about 33.5 total. I have now entered that phase of being scared to death I’ll get to goal weight and then gain it all back. (I know. I should take my own advice and be positive. I will.)

Well done MaryW – I enjoyed your article by the way – you certainly have worked hard at overcoming your demons to love a healthy life – I respect that so much.

On thee last few days I am trying to ensure I have something to give Miss MT. Fast days Thursday, Saturday, Monday (though guests that night) so Tuesday weigh in for the month. I am hopeful if not optimistic!!

I agree TTL – time to read THE BOOK again, and I have just ordered Fast Exercise from Amazon so September is my big month to see results!

Loved the article, too. Can we get your book on Amazon? It’s my only way living in Japan?
    Looking forward to reading it.

Hi everyone, I have been awol for the last couple weeks with my moms visit. I have been fasting two days a week but it is more maintaining with all the deserts and camping food I have had. I would love to join in September. School is starting for my kids so it will be a good time to focus and work hard.

Thanks for all the positive feedback on the article. Silversue, yes: it’s available on Amazon. I’ve never sold a book in Japan before so that would be cool! 🙂

I’m off to the Canadian National Exhibition today where weird and caloric foods abound. New foods for this year include a “coffee and donuts milkshake,” “chicken waffle on a stick” and “poutine balls.” None of these tempt me, fortunately, but I might have an ice-cream waffle sandwich.

Those weird foods don’t surprise me MaryWW. No offence intended, but North Americans seem particularly adept at creating the worst sounding (and worst for you foods) imaginable. A couple of years ago when I was visiting the States I came across a range of unbelievable “delicacies” and wrote a blog about it. Apparently anything you can stick on a stick goes down a treat!!

Now I’m off to the local Farmers Market.

You got that right, chipmunk! Here in the U.S., we have what are called, in the car business, “swap meets”, where people buy and sell antique and classic car parts. Of course, food is a must, and there are several vendors who sell deep-fried anything (Oreos, candy, etc). It’s crazy! So difficult to be healthy in an atmosphere like this. Even just going to the store, either grocery or convenience, it’s all junk.

I enjoyed your blog post @chipmunk13. It seems to be a thing about fairs and midways, this high-fat food on a stick thing. I was glad to see that Iowa lists “Popsicles”and “fruit with yogurt dip” as food on a stick and that someone has created “salad on a stick”!

I think the stick is needed because there is never anywhere to sit down and eat at the exhibition. We ended up choosing sandwiches rather than plates (with salad, rice etc) for that reason. I did moderately well compared to my younger days at the ex — nothing exotic held any appeal. But I did enjoy a waffle ice-cream sandwich!

Morning all. Can’t believe its the end of August and the end of summer.
I’m in gateau sorry mean plateau – only 1lb off now for 3 weeks. So total for August is 3 for miss MT.
I’m ducking out of the sept challenge as I start a new course and hopefully new career so although I’ll still be fasting I want my focus to change. I’m a natural tortoise so I’ll keep on keeping on.
Good luck all little voices it was wonderful hearing your stories and insights. You are indeed masters and mistresses of your own lives and certainly not a number on the scales.

Hello all hope you had a great August. I went away on 31st July and came back yesterday so will weigh in tomorrow and see what the damage is! I want to lose 8lbs on the September challenge. I am not sure who is organising it but please add me to the list. Thanks

Hi all – and thank you Fitn for organising us all this month. I didn’t make my target this month as I have had the pleasure of entertaining friends every single weekend down by the sea and this week, had guests all week too so I’m sorry to announce that I regained 1 and a half of the 5 I had reported a couple of weeks ago BUT that still means I can give miss MT 3 and a half pounds which I am actually really pleased about. Usually I pile weight on at this time of year and I have now lost about 9 lbs since starting mid July which is ok by me. Slow and steady this time, it’s a way of life not a diet, and if I continue like this I can be near my goal weight this time next year like some of you megastars. So September is Rugby World Cup time, got lots of tickets to lots of games, and you know what that means…. but 3 weeks before the first game, so lots of exercise, cut back on the vino and lots of fast days to fit in and I can quickly get rid of those naughty pounds that crept back in my life last week and continue in the right direction. Looking forward to setting my September targets later this week. Happy wet bank holiday Monday (to those of you in England) and hope your weigh-ins give you the results you desire.

Good morning, all fasters! Well, it’s the final day, and post your losses/gains/plateaus! Get ready for the September Dual Challenge, for all of those who are willing and able! 5:2 fasting PLUS the 30 day plank Challenge. Action Hero will be leading us down the road to skinniness and fitness!

Miss Muffin Top is waiting to hear the final tally, and I will review and see what she will weigh! I am (miraculously) down another 1.5! If I told you what I ate last week, you would wonder that I didn’t gain 5!

Thanks to everyone for the motivation, help, support and stories! It has been an honor!

    Hello Ducklings..

Blimey O Reilly.. turns out to be quite hard to weigh yourself when you don’t have scales.!
Have no idea what I weigh but think I do look a bit slimmer.
Can I start for September and deny ms MT her pound of August flesh?

Will try begging in the streets to find some scales ready for Sept to make a nice clean start.

3 cheers for Action Hero, our September leader and 3 cheers for the Plankers.

Can’t wait to get nice and slim just in time to wrap myself in many layers of jumper and mackintosh. Am just going to crank up the central heating and wear a bikini round the house if I reach my target.

    Good Luck to all.
