  • Hey Ho
    Weather extremes for sure.
Too true, high howling winds, Earthquake felt by some in Wellington but not us and now torrential rain. It sounds like someone is throwing buckets of water against the windows. Sadly they are not the best quality and leaking quite badly.

I am certainly getting the full quota here in NZ. Actually we felt nothing of the Earthquake this evening, I guess houses built on bedrock are a very good thing.

We were watching a thriller on the literally perched on the edge of our seats when Earthquake happened so we might have fallen off. Someone recommended a series on Netflix called Bodyguard. PHEW! It was all action. I am exhausted.

Amazon – I am looking forward to trying the plan so long as not too much cooking time involved. Bulk cooking is fine though.

Going to bed now for a nice relaxing read

    Jo,

There is no plan apart from eating 800 calories for as many days of the week as you want in the first instance using time restricted eating which most of us do already, and following a low carb, Mediterranean style diet.

There are a few recipes but I wouldn’t rely on one that prescribes eg 3 tablespoons of rice. Measurements need to be by weight for non liquid ingredients or the total calorie count is inaccurate.

Hi Fast Trackers And Hello World (You All know Who You ARE) 😉
Calorie restriction I find difficult fasting is my preferred weapon of choice if for any other reason of simplicity TR and IF excellent WOL and maintenance protocols but for fat loss for me it does not deliver results. We here in South Australia are staring at possibly our hottest day on record the forecast is for 46 deg here have a groovy day and remember.
“It is easier to avoid eating than to stop eating once started”
    Peace RT

    Hi RT,

Keep yourself cool and hydrated. I’m guessing where you work is well chilled 😉

I’m not a fan of long term calorie restriction but I needed to do something different.
Apart from morning tea with a splash of milk which is getting less by the day, I’m having all of my calories within a 5-6 hour window so a daily fasting period of 18-19 hours is being observed.

As I said to Jo 800 calories per day isn’t something that would be easy to stick to for long. I’ve set a mini goal weight to reach before I return to IF with 500 calorie FDs and hopefully by then I’ll have got used to eating less on non FDs and find it easier to remain in control and within TDEE.

It’s all about tweaking and control. Stay cool RT. 46 is a shocker! 😐😐😐P

    Wow, 46! It’s been subzero here today, -3 at 5pm. I’ve been in full thermals…it’s a good look 😂

We had a covering of snow yesterday, much to the hens’ disgust. Luckily OH was available to sweep the area around the hen house for them…else they’d still be in there, moaning!

I’m just lying in a crumpled aching heap by the fire after another Pilates class. I know I’ve been really protective of my lower back since slipping a disc in 2017, and got really stiff and inflexible as a result. Who knew that learning to move again would hurt so much?!

I’m still 2kg up from my pre-Xmas weight, but that’s still 1kg below my original 5:2 target, so I’ve managed to talk myself into it being OK 😊 The day’s are definitely beginning to lengthen now though so it’ll soon be time to lose my hibernation fat reserves….

Hi Fast Trackers And Hello World (You All know Who You ARE) 😉
It’s now official SA has the hottest capital city in Australia tapping out at 46.6 deg the hottest town in South Australia today was Port Augusta @ 49.5 deg and where I live 47 deg far out Brussel Sprout
    Eat Fast and Live Longer
    Peace RT

Sure is! Far too far out!! Horrible!

We are just back from a lovely lunch catch-up with Wiwi and Jo and her OH and daughter in the Botanical Gardens. And dinner tomorrow night too – our social life has picked up 🙂

Happy to report Barata still looking very skinny, goodness knows where she is carry 2 extra kilos, must be her handbag. Our other halves chatted away while the rest of us girls caught up on the last two years. We exchanged glances at Grandchildren in Italy, Australia and England and met a delightful French girl that Wiwi is caring for while Mum at work. There was a tradition clothing Indian Wedding party in the gardens for a photo shoot. They looked very exotic.
Sadly I managed to hit my toe on a granite step whilst shopping so we had to return to the house. Seriously clumsy these days, hope I don’t lose the nail. I am now laid up with a cold compress and a good book whilst the others complete the shopping. That’s my excuse and I am sticking to it.
Smoked salmon bagel for lunch which was delicious and green salad for dinner.
Walked quite a bit today and feeling it in my hip joint. Might be time to get a specialist to give it the once over but I suspect surgery on the horizon in future.
Hope you are all enjoying summer/winter so far this year, I am not complaining about NZ, perfect low 20’s, ideal.
RT and PVE – are you both melting? Crazy hot over there!

Sorry to hear about your toe, Jo. Very annoying! I’m glad you still manages the catchup with B and Wi. 🖐
We are right on the coast, right anove the beach, so the cool sea breeze keeps us at a perfect temp. Poor RT, AO and Nicky are not so lucky in SA. Stay out of the heat, guys.😢
    P

Thanks Jo and Purple the top was 34 today but a cool change has swept in this afternoon now 26 praise the lord very crazy this week i can assure. have a cool weekend 😎
    Peace RT

Sorry to hear you have injured yourself, Jo. Stick to your story, and hope you will be up to tomorrow evening. And happy to hear that NZ is perfect – another immigrant in the making ! 🙂

    Morning/evening all,

It’s a milder and drizzly morning here after a few very cold days and nights with heavy frosts and snow showers.

I went out this morning to collect a parcel and do some grocery shopping. I got home, unpacked the shopping, made a coffee and then remembered the parcel was still sitting at the collection desk in the supermarket….. 😳

My coffee was still hot when I got home with my parcel 😀

I forgot because there is so much going on at the moment my mind is in a whirl.
My niece had a baby boy yesterday morning, a little brother for my great nephew. I am so excited and can’t wait to meet him and give him a cuddle.

Lots of other social events coming up in the near future so I’ll need to be disciplined and not undo the good work of the past couple of weeks.

I saw the NZ catch-up photos on fb and I agree with Jo, Barata’s extra 2kgs are definitely in her handbag 😉

    Jo,

My hip is so much better since I had my furniture re-upholstered. I can hardly believe the difference it has made. I only figured out what was making it so sore when I cam back from Africa having slept in all manner of beds, sat on numerous different chairs and benches and climbed in and out of the back of very high sided safari vehicles with no issues.

I’m guessing that you hip arthritis is more advanced and I’m sorry to hear you are suffering. Do you wear orthotic insoles? I found they really helped to re-align my hips and knees when out walking and have far less issues after long walks. They caused a degree of discomfort in new places the first few times I walked but since then they’ve been great.

Have a great weekend everybody and stay cool 😎😜

Amazon i was so pleased for Sam Stosur and Zhang Shuai winning the AO women’s doubles Final yesterday beautiful. I think Osaka and the Joker to take out the Finals what is your thoughts.?

    Morning/evening all,

    RT,

IMO the womens title is too close to call and having watched Rafa closely these past two weeks I think (and hope) he’ll win.

Happy Australia Day to Aussie fastrackers 😃🥂🍻

Have a good one everybody 😜

Thanks Amazon. Stunning weather for a holiday. Everyone is out enjoying themselves, despite the controversy over the day, these days. At least it allowed an interesting cross generational discussion over the day..a celebration or a sorry/invasion day?
I’ve eaten too many carbs, but have got away with it, so far. 🙄🙄

Great womens final at Melbourne park 😀

    Purple,

I’m out for a celebration dinner tonight and I know I’ll be eating too many carbs but life’s too short to cut them out all of the time!

It sure is! We took a tasting platter, homemade, down to the beach, to enjoy with a bottle of bubbly as the sun set.
In the past, we would have then had dinner. These days, that was dinner. That’s how it works. 😊

The Wellington 5:2 contingent enjoyed another social gathering last night, this time as guests of Wi. All participants in top form, and all took care not to mention the B****t word! Carbs were not stinted, the scales tell a sad story this morning, so some work to be done. Thanks for the company, folks 🙂

Its a drizzly day today, but temperatures to be in the mid-20s for the week as we begin to receive the effects of Australia’s heatwave.

Our SBS tv channel is doing “Slow Summers” every Sunday night. Tonight is the train trip we took last year from Auckland to Wellington. I’m surprised how much I remember 😊😊

    Morning/evening all,

After torrential rain yesterday evening we have a beautiful sunny and mild morning.

I had a really nice dinner last night in my new(ish) local pub, in the company of a friend who I met in said pub over 25 years ago. It is unrecognisable from back them and all the better for it. The clientele are a different crowd altogether and the beer, wine and food is excellent. I’ve been there for dinner once before and was keen to go back and try something else on their unusual and interesting menu. We ate our fill, drank (too much) wine and had a good laugh.
My friend really liked it too and we’ve already decided to return soon.

This morning has been filled with texts, emails and phone calls so I’ve not been watching the tennis. The scoreline says Rafa is getting a thrashing so I’m glad not to have turned on the TV.

I really enjoyed the womens final and was pleased to see Naomi Osaka win.

    RT,

It would seem you picked the winners for both singles titles. Could you let me know a bit earlier next time so I can visit the bookies 😉

Sam Stosur has been one of my favourite players for many years. I was lucky enough to see her play Hopman Cup in Perth on NYE 2013, and I’ve seen her since in Rome 2016.

Have a good one everybody 😜

    Happy birthday, Amazon 😊😊😊

    Thanks Purple 🙂

Yes Amazon the Joker was clinical in his execution and was un relenting Rafa was out muscled on this occasion but he is on the comeback trial as with the joker but both their semi-final opponents are not anywhere near these 2 so I can foresee many more great gladiator battles yet to play out. Naomi Osaka match was certainly a roller coaster especially trying to close out the match in the 2nd set but she got the job done and without all the goings on of her US Open victory 😯
Monday is a fast day for me that is normal but it is however a public holiday in Australia but the plant is processing so it’s also a working day as well. Bugger..
    Keep on Keeping on..RT

    Happy Birthday Amazon!

    I’m raising a glass to you 😊

Have we discovered the one thing that can interfere with your tennis viewing?!

Bad luck, RT. I’ll delay until Tuesday. Have a good day, anyway. P

    Happy,

    Thanks for the birthday wishes.

I’ve had a really good weekend with lots of good food, conversation and rather too much alcohol. Tomorrow it’s back to work on the waistline….

There isn’t much that stops my tennis watching and usually at this time of year it’s because I’m on holiday!

I’m currently halfway through the three hour version, P. Don’t have 12 hours to spend on the full version. Love my country!

Birthday wishes, Amazon. I’m with you on the weight gain. I have just checked, and after a social weekend I am the heaviest since March 2014! Off the alcohol for February, starting today 🙂 . We’ll see how long that lasts, but trying again to see if it will help with my sleeping (or lack of it). Alcohol was never an issue when I was loosing, so the food intake is also being reduced. I need to know I am in control.

Yes B. We saw The short version. The Avon and Kenney Canal one, last wee was good too!

    Evening everyone,
Phew! It has been very hot here today.
Other half and I decided to read in the garden after lunch as we had finished the rabbit run project at last.
After 30 Minutes I put on 30 factor sun screen ‘like a good girl’, unfortunately I still managed to get baked, very red arms, knees and feet, luckily I was wearing a cap so head protected. I think I may need to cover up entirely in future or buy 50 factor protection next time. First burn this holiday so not bad going but I would have preferred to avoid getting burnt though. I should really know better, no ozone protecting us here. Sadly there was no shady area in this west facing garden.
I admit that if this were my property I would build a nice wooden shaded arbour on a deck. The views are so spectacular I would really want to spend all my time being outside or at least looking out. None of the neighbours use the gardens either, even at the weekends, seems very strange to me.
So you won’t be drinking on Friday night Barata, I will join you, I am happy to drink water. I slept very badly last night, listening to the howling wind, but I had a snooze this morning until 10.30 am.
Just had a nice egg salad, I love the eggs here, free range of course.
Fasting is off the priority list until I get home but I am eating lots of salad.
Yesterday we tried the restaurant ‘Chocolate Fish’ in Shelley Bay, really good food and service. I had Thai Fish Cakes and salad, yummy. They don’t sell chips, Ha Ha, my other half was not amused. Great coastal views too.

    Morning/evening all,

    A lovely sunny morning here😀

    Jo,

Sunscreen is supposed to be applied 15 minutes PRIOR to going out into the sun.

As for the neighbours not using their gardens, in my experience the majority of residents in the SH don’t do sitting around in the sun for obvious reasons, but prefer to cover up/use sunscreen and get out and about.

    Time to get moving,

Have a good one everybody 😜

Absolutely right, Amazon. Only “mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun”!!
We do things early and late, and stick to the shade whenever possible. I can’t believe the people who think exposing our skin to harsh summer sun is a good idea.
I wear a broad brimmed hat and a loose, long sleeved shirt if I need to walk in midday sun. Most places have shady trees and verandahs.
The end of another beautiful summers day here. No-one sunburnt, despite high UV and blue, cloudless skies. P

    Amazon and PVE,
You are both right, I was stupid today, mad English women too it seems, I have learned my lesson, no more sitting outside reading whilst in NZ sun. I certainly wasn’t out there midday but it was mid afternoon and I had most of my body covered.
Sadly no verandah or shady trees in this garden, not even an umbrella, too windy for one to survive long I would guess. Fortunately not too sore tonight. I certainly would never go out without a hat, heat stroke is really unpleasant. Keeping a hat on in Wellington is a challenge though, scarves are probably a better option with this wind unless you have a hat with a chin strap.

It will be harsh heading back to the UK and Winter but at least it seems to be quite mild this year.

I actually developed an amazing tan in your UK summer last year. It’s very different sunlight 😊

    PVE
Actually I don’t usually sunbathe but I do play bowls outside and I like gardening and walking so am usually brown throughout summer. I always use suncream even in the UK but not often 30 factor, often 15. The sun is very aging so I avoid laying in the sun. This was not the case in my youth of course, I was always keen to get a tan and rarely used protective cream. This generation are more careful about tanning thank goodness. Although many use fake tan spray treatments. I would not waste the money on these myself.

Jo, with my Celtic skin, I’ve never sunbaked in my life.
The tan I got last June/July was simply from walking around, sightseeing, with a hat and 30+. But the gentler, Northern light, even though it was a heatwave for you, didn’t burn, but did tan. It was an interesting experience. 😊

I’m just back from a lovely walk in Kew Gardens. Clear blue sky, sunshine and 5°C.
I’ve discovered that Monday morning is the quietest time of the week which is really nice as it’s almost like having the place to myself 😊

I don’t sunbathe and if I’m in the sun anywhere other than the UK I always use sunscreen. When I’m at home it depends on the time of year, in summer it is crazy not to use it but in spring and autumn the sun is rarely hot enough. I burn very easily so like Purple I’ve had to be careful.

    Amazon,
What a treat having Kew Gardens to yourself, such a big and beautiful place too. Did you do the treetop Walk too? I shall never forget our trip with Gail, my fear of heights being overcome for once.

The view from my daughters house is like being in the middle of a National Forest. All you can see are hills and trees it’s very peaceful. We had a thick fog this morning so it was looking quite ethereal but it’s clearing now. We are waiting for a man to fix the washing machine so indoors until he arrives. I have been hand washing the last week, quite a treat in the ‘tub’ sink, my first contact with such a thing, I am a convert. Deep and wide stainless steel sink which sits next to the washing machine. I think I might get one in my next kitchen. Is it peculiar to NZ or do they have them in private houses in Australia? I guess it’s a version of a utility Butler sink. It’s great to hang out washing which dries in a very short time. I use the tumble dryer at home as I can’t usually rely on weather changes while I am out most of the day.

I have brown skin this morning apart from my knees which are still a little red. I wear crop trousers at home during summer so they don’t usually see much sun. I am going to download MM book today and hope to get my mojo back. I really need to get out for a walk later today, I hope my legs can take the steep hill to the bus stop, we have been so lazy here. It’s unusual for me to spend my daytimes relaxing but I don’t think I want to get used to it. I miss my dog walking and bowling/Dance Classes. Not missing Bridge because I am using an application on my iPad. My other half and I are competing to get the best average. It’s not easy with a computer bidding against you.

I hope everyone is in good health and happy.

Every house has laundry tubs next to the washing machine here. Our machines are in separate laundry rooms, not in the kitchen. We also wash up in our kitchen sinks, usually stainless steel, not in a tub placed in it as so many do in the UK. Until very recently, with the advent of so many tiny apartments (home units here), it was illegal to have washing machines in kitchens.
Better get the sheets on the line…😊

I’m sorry to hear about your burns, Jo. But not unhappy that you are here to enjoy such wonderful summer weather, after the show the country put on for you two years ago. I rarely use the dryer, if I cannot hang things outside it’s on the racks they go!

There’s still time for our NH friends to get to Wellington by Friday to join our barbeque. There might be rain forecast, but the number of offers of umbrellas that OH has turned down…

    Hi Barata,
Well let me know total numbers for the salad before Friday.
A bit of rain will not put us off. Please message time and roughly how long it should take us. Checking out train times tonight. Also what time is the last train back to Wellington.
Having another lazy day today, reading on the sofa this time. Other half braved some gardening but I decided to protect my skin and stay inside today. I have been watching a mother bird with her six young chicks. She had a plume on her head. Father bird (more colourful)was nearby on a branch keeping lookout. So cute, their nest must be on the hillside just below the edge of our garden.
Heading into town and the waterfront tomorrow, may walk up to Oriental Bay. Only one week of our holiday left then it’s back to routine and cuddles with new grandchild and of course my dogs(who are not missing me in the least because my son is there).
    It’s all good!
    Looking forward to Friday

Is your daughter joining us, Jo? If so I would expect seven. Will be in touch.

How big was your bird, cannot identify it from the above.

No bigger than a starling, mostly brown but some white stripes, took photo and film but not really close enough. Must get a close up lens for my iPhone. I will keep an eye on the playground and try to get a better shot. Sent you a reply on Messenger too.

    California quail.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to be so terse, but a visitor had just arrived. 🙂

Would you believe, 30 degrees here in Wellington today? Australia’s heat wave has arrived!

    27 in Sydney 😊

    Morning/evening all,

    1°C here, brrrr!

Both of my friends in Australia have separate laundry rooms with a big sink alongside the machine.

I wouldn’t give a dryer house room, if the washing can’t go out it dries inside.

As for the kitchen sink, I don’t use a washing up bowl as all they succeed in doing is collect germs and grease and as I have a dishwasher the only things I wash up are roasting trays etc which are too big to fit into a bowl!

As I had a big weekend eating and drinking wise, I started my week with a 600 calorie FD yesterday and today it’s back to no more than 800 per day.

Yesterday I made a lentil bake based on an Anna Jones recipe, green lentils cooked with lots of veggies, herbs and spices and topped with butternut squash, celeriac and potato mash. There was so much I couldn’t fit it all into one dish and I’ve ended up with 5 x 350 calorie portions. Very tasty and also very filling with some greens on the side, and ideal for a cold winters day.

Have a good one everybody 😜

    Morning/evening all,

Another cold, frosty but sunny morning here in London.

I’m out for the day today, a few errands this morning before meeting a friend to see Mary Queen of Scots followed by an early dinner somewhere.

Have a good one everybody 😜

Hi Amazon it was 40 here yesterday again seems cool at 25 in the morning 😆 continued success with the 800 a day would this be 2 meals a day no snacks program as was the 5-2 protocol..?
