  • Hi
Decided to embark on this plan having discovered I am a constant craver courtesy of the Horizon programme test I did today, this is my recommended diet, so here goes. It is my 60th birthday on Saturday, and have got a weekend away with 14 friends, so it was tempting to leave it until next week to start, but to be honest it’s a familiar tale for me, always starting next week, Monday etc so am going to do my fast days on Tuesday and Thursday, the weekend will be what it is a celebration, so I am not going to worry about that. Got the book and the app so I better get reading.

Hi Fireflylady. I saw that too. Depending on my answers I was either not any of the three or a constant craver. So I have decided to do this. My first day is today, this week so I’m doing Weds and Friday. How was your first day?

    Hi
Ist day was fine, managed 24 hours on water and herbal/fruit tea, so pleased. today am just taking it easy not stressing too much about what i eat, but not feeling particularly hungry. I am between a feaster and constant craver so on non fast days am doing low GI. feeling positive x

I also started last week as discovered I was a constant craver. I am doing 4:3 to kick start for two weeks then doing 5:2. I am also luck as my husband is s conitive therapist and has given me some great ways of dealing with temptations.
    1. When looking at various cakes, chocolates etc.regard them as fuel and dismiss them as poor quality nd not what your body needs.
    2. Remember your body is your vehicle for getting through life so the better you treat it snd look after it the longer it will last.
this works for me so far, hope it helps.

    Hello

Day 1, and a bag of nerves – 50 years of constant craving ‘nipped in the bud’

    Wish me luck…

    I watched that program too,
makes a lot of sense for me to be a constant craver, I was planning on staring Monday, but as I had a porridge for breakfast decided to take the plunge today. I am really nervous but also know that my work patterns mean that I often have big gaps between meals.
One thing that bothers me, on the program they advise between 600-800 calories and two successive days. I cant manage to download their book to work out the difference any ideas?

Good luck. the programme does recommend 600/800 cals and also says strictly no carbs and two consecutive days, which is slightly different to this Fast Diet, so i personally am sticking with this one and doing two separate days days, Monday and Thursday. I downloaded the book free in ibooks Good luck x

Good Luck everyone. Like Joules I’m going to do alternate days 4:3. Only because I want to shift it quickly. If it’s too much I’ll do 5:2. I have done this before in 2012 when the programme first aired it works. Unfortunately I stopped it and now wished I continued with the one day a week maintenance. For women it’s 500 per day and Men 600 on fast days.

Hi, this is my first day and I am a little confused about how many calories I need per day. On the NH site it says my BMR is 1900 but on this site it says my BMR is 1600. Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks paul

Hi Paul. I would start with 600 as you are a man. That’s the general rule of thumb.

    Hi navan and welcome:

Your BMR is irrelevant to a weight loss diet. Your TDEE includes your BMR and adds your activity. TDEE is the key number.

TDEE calculators differ, which only reflects the fact they give estimates, not facts. That means that after you have done 5:2 for a couple of months, you may find you have to adjust your caloric intake a bit because the TDEE number you have been using is off a bit.

Look at a couple of calculators, take the lowest TDEE number of the ones you look at (because your goal is to lose weight, so you want to eat less rather than more), and go for a couple of months eating 5/600 cal. on your diet days and to your TDEE or less on your non diet days, and adjust if necessary a couple of months on.

Number 4 in this post explains TDEE: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

Good luck to all the Starters on here. I saw the 2nd episode of the Horizon series last night. Reckon I am a bit of all three, but mainly a Constant Craver crossed with an Emotional Eater. Anyway, have been doing 5:2 for a few months and have lost about 14lb/6kg – so far so good. Hope that is an encouragement.

This Horizon series seems an interesting approach to helping people lose weight, although I did rather frown at sending the ‘Emotional Eaters’ to commercial slimming clubs, My GP gave me some vouchers for one a few years ago. I did lose weight (temporarily!) but found the general atmosphere pretty fatuous – and not really that supportive as it was entirely focused on losing weight rather than any emotional struggles with food. Anyway, that’s just a bee I have in my bonnet about clubs!

However, it was good that they encouraged on-line communication between the Emotional Eaters. This forum can be a good way to get emotional support, maybe in same way. I wonder if they will show anyone receiving Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, which is the other component of the approach for Constant Cravers?

Yes, fireflylady, I noticed the difference in the cal limit (800) given to the Constant Craver man by the programme. Not sure if there is research evidence on this yet, or if they are just testing a hypothesis. Ah well, scientific enquiry is a cumulative process, imo. It won’t apply to me in any case, as I much prefer to separate my fast days, so will keep to the 500 cals for a woman, recommended by 5:2.

Navan, I would reinforce simcoeluv’s advice about TDEE and that this Way of Eating does benefit from some continuous self monitoring ( measuring as well as weighing oneself can be helpful) and adjustment, if needed. Have you seen the ‘Your tracker’ section of this site? All the best with it.

Finally, not entirely 5:2 related, just a quick ‘HI’ to pompeyfclee, from a fellow Blue! PUP! These days I also ‘chime’ DGK, which stand for ‘Down Go Kilo-ooos’ 🙂 Maybe one day they will score 5:2 hahaha

PS Joules – just read your post above. They sound really helpful suggestions for when I am about to give into temptation (on my non-fast days). Thanks, will give them a go!

PPS pompeyfclee – I hope your nerves settled down as the day went on. Hope you’ve been giving yourself some positive self-talk, such as ‘I’ve made a wise decision’. Maybe the nerves are kind of a good thing, in the same way that actors say they need nerves to give a good performance. All the best.

Thanks everyone, and PUP to Bootsy – daft being nervous really, because as you say. This is a wise decision. Indeed, if Carlsberg did decisions….hehe

Day 1 nearly licked, bring on day 2….isn’t it fab to have a community like this for advice and stuff. I’m so confident, I’m thinking about the 4:3 like Joules!!

Thanks for the advice, I’ll make a new start in the morning. I’ll try fasting Monday and Thursday and hope that will be enough.
    Regards Paul

Day 1 ending, I am surprised how well its gone. Because of work, he easiest is for me to do tomorrow as well, hope its as good. Good luck to everyone else.

Hi I have just started my fasting but will also stick to my warrior Diet principles that seems to be working for me. But to fully follow it is just to overwhelming has tried plenty of different eating plans. Wish me luck hope to find some inspration from you guys

I agree Okayheregoes. Day 1 was good and I have not over indulged today at all.

Hi, today is my first day. It’s not lunch yet and I’m very hungry! I may have some broth to keep me going, and will keep drinking water. Any other advice for the first day? I’m trying to keep busy at work (not that that’s hard), but would love to hear words of wisdom from the community!

Just coming towards the end of my second fast, did the same aS lost time did 24 hours, from tea last night, just had water, herbal/fruit tea, felt fine kept busy, just had my tea which was a 500 cal ready meal from M&S, maybe not the best food I have ever tasted, but took the hard work out of calorie calculating, worth considering for future fast days, but will only use them occasionally. All in all feeling very positive.

Just about to eat my low cal final meal on my second fast day. Its been easier than I expected, until my lovely man spent an hour having a loving conversation with my waitress all about food in front of me *****£$£”£!!! Nothing like support. Never mind, so far so good, and tomorrow I can eat anything.

It’s my first day today! Well, official first day anyway, I was sick on Monday, so didn’t eat anything on Monday anyway. I also watched the horizon programme, and took the test, to find I’m a constant craver. I tried this diet a few months back, but did not have the motivation I have now, so I am looking for encouragement and support, as I will of course support you! Let’s shift some weight in 2015!!!!! The new me is in sight!

Well its my first non fast day, and for some reason feel hungrier today. Maybe its having lunch, although I havent had much protein today. Anybody else have this reaction? Or am I just weird?
