  • Day 26 UK CD
    Day 27 UK NFD
    Day 28 UK CD

    Not managed to fast over the weekend tho kept eating mostly really well. Made cake on Saturday for community gathering and ate lots of ganache – but it was made with avocado and cacao 🙂 Out to lunch on Sunday and had salads, half a glass of prosecco then back to water. My biggest blowout this last week has been homemade popcorn.

    I’m feeling puffy and sluggish – and in lots of pain today. Had to take more meds and go back to bed, spent most the day resting bc I couldn’t do anything else. I’ve got up for the evening, now having a bath and going back to bed.

    It’s a very quiet end to a quiet month here, with several regulars away on holidays. Do we have a host for July?

    @basyjames well done on your b2b WFD last week – me who was asking. It sounds as tho you’ve really got this for your pre-holiday prep
    @daffodil2010 hope the recovery is continuing well

    Day 28 USA – FD

    Decided I had better do a FD today … been a while, and I’ve not been especially good on my NFD’s. Had Silver Sneakers this morning then took DH to get his first COVID jab. He’s had other medical issues that have precluded him from getting it until now. Tonight it is a Zoom meeting for our Children’s Museum. We’re finally starting to get it back open more, and that is good.

    @northerndawn – your journal is marvelously detailed. Yeah for you, and how good of you to share it all with us. I’m especially thinking how good that advice is for any newbies who might read of your journey.

    @emmataylor – it seems like the summer season is always “lighter” for posts. Maybe people are doing better with their eating too?

    @daffodil2010 – good to hear of good health progress! hugs to you —

    Onward and downward.

    Second post

    @michelinme – So very sorry to hear that you are having pain. I hope it abates soon. I hope your bath eased the inflammation. I am going to host July, but I hope you will be able to respond to posts, as you are usually good at doing that. No pressure, though. Just take care of yourself, first and foremost.

    3rd post

    @songbirdme – I hope your DH has only a sore arm from his jab. I was wondering about your Children’s Museum, actually. I’m glad it’s getting back up and going again. Unless something changes drastically with the Covid variants out there, I think it is super important to get kids back to normal activities and social interactions. I can see that with my grandkids of all ages, 5-18. It’s been especially hard on kids because they really need their peer groups to learn and grow.

    I have volunteered to do the July challenge and I hope every one of the members of this group can help out. I would so appreciate it. I have some serious obligations. But, I will try to attend to all posts.

    Day 29, NFD, Aus

    Good FD yesterday and I even when out at lunch time for some exercise (in addition to my comparative low key dog walks). Feeling virtuous.

    Thanks for offering to host next month @northerndawn. That’s good work to identify what has worked for you in the past – sounds like the making of a plan and goals for July.

    Keep posting everyone! It’s great for accountability – yours and mine – for entertainment, inspiration, and a sense of camaraderie.

    3rd Post

    @penz – 😇

    Day 29 – UK – FD800

    Last posted on Day 25 NFD when OH and I had a gorgeous meal from Simon Rogan to celebrate his birthday that evening 🥂
    Day 26 was spent marshalling for a fell race organised by friends in the Langdale valley – great day out!! but unfortunately that led to another NFD nibbling all day and finishing off with a takeaway meal that evening 🥂
    Managed to pull back on Day 27 with a TDEE day then a good FD800 on Day 28 to hopefully help me reset before we get to the July challenge……So on Monday, full of optimism once more, I decided on doing B2B2B2B FD800s to end this June Challenge and start the July Challenge on a positive note 🤞

    Lots of exercise yesterday starting with a 7am Broga class (45mins), then drove to the coast to meet with DD for some dog walks , firstly at Silecroft beach with 2 lovely dogs, then to Haverigg to take a puppy out for some socialisation and we enjoyed a coffee in the sunshine before her last dog walk with a very energetic spaniel for a wander through fields – we ended up covering around 7km….
    Finished the day with a Dynamic Yoga class (90mins) in the evening – very hot and sweaty workout!

    @northgeorgia – good to hear that your work stress is reducing – hopefully this will help with improving your food intake and get you closer to that 210 mark you are hoping for….🤞
    @songbirdme – you are kind 🤗
    @michelinme – lovely to read that you are in such a good place and yes we need to remind ourselves that we ” *just* need to stick to basics bc this WOL works” When I read your posts it reminds me to cook dhal more often as it is an excellent source of iron and fibre, and a good source of protein and above all tastes really 😋
    @daffodil2010 – great to hear that you are starting to feel normal again but remember not to push too hard and make sure that you are fully ready before going back to work
    @dvw – good luck with the house sale 🤞it’s not too stressful an experience!
    @northerndawn – sounds like you had a great time with your DGD creating some very happy memories! I’m with you in that “It’s amazing how awful 4-5 pounds can make you feel bad, physically, so that is something I really need to keep in mind” For me it completely changes how I feel about myself and I have been struggling to lose an extra 7lbs!! gained from my previous happy weight – for the past few months I seem to manage to lose a few of those lbs and then they creep back on and then I keep repeating that cycle….but as @northgeorgia says “our commitment to the WOL will win out in the end!”
    BTW loved your journal and thank you for sharing x Thank you for offering to host July and I will happily set up a spreadsheet for the July Challenge
    @basyjames – like your “I am still thankful that I have this forum to stay accountable too, its like a warm blanket- you may not need it all the time but its good to know that its there.

    June has been a quiet month as some have said and I have been guilty of being poor as both a host and posting….I seem to have got out of my daily posting habit so hoping to make July a strong one and make a commitment to achieve some goals……

    Meeting with my walking group this morning and it looks like a grand day out there, sunshine and blue skies so I’ll be out the door in the next hour – I also have a High Impact Pilates session booked for early evening to keep me motivated on 2nd FD800

    “If I quit now, I will soon be back to where I started. And when I started, I was desperately wishing to be where I am now”

    Day 29 UK NFD

    The positive vibes are infectious, I’m going to be 1-2 lbs up for the month but this is going to spur me on for a better July

    Thanks for volunteering for July @northerndawn

    Day 29 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – NFD

    It’s DH’s birthday today so I am going to cook a nice fish dish and there will be a small amount of cake and wine later, but as its a “school night” for him with an early start, it will be civilised.

    I had a good FD yesterday, however my tum was also in a bad way which perversely helped the FD. I had cut my painkillers down to just once a day however I think now they are doing a number on me, so I have cut them altogether. I don’t actually have much pain now anyway, thankfully.

    I am going out in my car now for the first time since the op, just a toddle to buy supplies for tonight birthday meal. Every day I get stronger.

    I concur with @penz et al that the forum is super quiet. It has been actually for quite a while, and over the years it has gone steadily quieter, even M. Moseley doesn’t have any latest updates….do you guys still see the thing about his trip to Australia in 2019 in the “featured topics”?

    However, it’s a good place to come on and be accountable, and I like having it as part of my daily routine. I really hope we can continue…….back in 2013 I was part of a forum for the Dukan Diet and at first it was like this one, lots of posters, great tips, great banter…..slowly people dropped out, then I did, and now there is tumbleweed drifting through that forum…….maybe it’s the lifecycle of forums?

    Goodness, so dramatic.

    Thank you so much @northerndawn for hosting July, it’s so much appreciated.
    @michelinme I hope you feel better soon.
    @at you really are a super woman with all the exercise you do, well done!
    @songbirdme hope your DH’s jab went ok

    Have a lovely Tuesday everyone. I am finding myself happy that I have lovely warm sunny weather while I am recovering so lolling about the garden on a sun lounger and a good book is the perfect way to spend the day ☺️

    Day 29 – USA/GA – FD

    Good morning! The scales were rocking this morning, so I picked the lower weight, 224 lbs. Then as I went to record my weight I discovered that I also weighed 224 yesterday after my post-FD weigh-in! Good…

    The bad news: I have still weighed in a little heavier than every day last week so far. Also, I won’t reach my goal of 217 lbs by tomorrow. Also also, I won’t reset at 220 lbs tomorrow either.

    The good news: I don’t care. My body feels ready to move downward weight-wise. I’m dealing with the stress in a better way. I have a stronger resolve and commitment going into July. I will definitely get into the 210s next month, and may reach the 217 goal by the end of the month.

    I’m starting FD#2 of my 3:4 this week. Looking forward to returning to the 220 borderline and eventually taking that fateful step over. Good luck, everyone!

    Pocket list – day 29
    @at
    @northgeorgia

    Day 29, UK, NFD

    Yesterday was a good fast day.

    I managed to last until 8pm with no food at all, except 20 calories’ worth of red chicory leaves at 5pm. Really pleased with myself.

    Think I had a lot of glycogen stored in my liver and muscles from all the feasting during the weekend!!

    I was mega-hungry during the night and starving this morning which is really unusual for me. It seems the closer I get to 800 calories on a FD, the hungrier I am! Hmmm…

    I am feeling a lot better after Monday’s FD – I’ve lost the weekend bloat!

    Planning two more FDs this week – Wednesday and Friday.

    @northerndawn – 2 X thank yous from me!
    – First of all, I loved your post about how you keep yourself on the ‘straight & narrow!’ I have cut and pasted it into a sticky note on my screen! Thanks – super-inspirational.
    – Secondly, thanks so much for hosting next month! I’ll be there!

    Catch y’all tomorrow for another FD!

    Day 29 North Canton OH FD 17 days to beach vacation

    @northerndawn what a great analysis and write up; it is so important to see where we have been, if we want to know where we are going. I will definitely try to help as much as possible, and I am sure the rest of the group will do their best to pitch in as well- everyone is always so supportive

    @michelinme sending warm wishes for your quick recovery. It sounds like you are doing all the right things, I pray that you see improvements every day

    @songbirdme good to see you are doing well

    @at you are a great host, and I enjoy seeing how active you are. Thank you so much for guiding us through June.

    @daffodil2010 I love the dramatic description- I live for it!!!! Forums tend to do that but this forum has been remarkably resilient. I have noticed a rhythm – upticks in activity then low participation followed by upticks, however there are always a few anchors who keep the forum going regardless of the season…

    @northgeorgia that’s a great mental space to be in. you will get to gaol- it is just a matter of time

    Pocket list – day 29
    @at
    @northgeorgia
    @basyjames

    Day 29, London, UK, NFD,

    There’s a sausage & avocado sandwich waiting patiently on the corner of my desk😱 ……………………. I guess I’ll eat it😜!!! But it will be a very low calorie tomato soup for dinner!!😇

    Yes, yes, yes, it’s been super quiet here, perhaps returning to ‘normality’ has been a bit more, well ……………. challenging!!!😂

    I’m making a vow to myself to post every single day of the July challenge, thanks for hosting @northerndawn, you’re a 🌟, and your list of what works resonated 100% with me!!!

    July is definitely a finger out month, the only issue I have with 5:2 or fasting in any way is similar to FOMO, ……………… I fast and fast and fall in love with the better sleep, the empty tummy feeling, the jewellry slipping off wrists & fingers, the emergence of COLLARBONES! ABS! CHEEKBONES!, the shifting holes on my belt, the BRAND NEW wardrobe ……………. the singular finger hand gesture to Alzheimers, Parkinsons etc🙏!!!
    Then for some unknown reason, despite the fact that at least 3 days per week don’t have to be FDs, I start missing FDs (there’s only 2!!!), binging on carbs like they’re restricted or on the “banned” list (there isn’t one!) and finishing things rather than saving for later just in case ‘later’ falls on a FD and the temptation would be too much (I know, I know, break the habit & just bin it!!!).
    Anyway, this WOL is totally sustainable, I can have whatever I want, maybe just tomorrow, but I CAN have it.

    Roll on July, I love Love LOVE this WOL, it’s the only thing that ever worked without me avoiding friends, family, restaurants and having talk myself off of the ‘ledge’ daily to avoid a biscuit!!!!

    I just need to tattoo “I 💜 5:2″ somewhere on my body lest I forget just how bloomin’ good this has been & will continue to be for me!!!!

    I can do this, we can do this, posting is always the key to my success, so what could be simpler ……………. 5:2 & daily posting?? Done!!!

    “If we keep doing what we are doing, we’re going to keep getting what we’re getting.” – Unknown

    Therefore, looking forwards …………….

    “I didn’t get there by wishing for it or hoping for it, but by working for it.” – Estée Lauder

    Day 29 – USA – NFD

    Happy to report my FD was pretty good yesterday. It’s always a challenge to do one on a Silver Sneakers Day as I do need some protein following exercise. Yesterday it was a mid-day string cheese and an apple. I’m not crazy about most apples this time of year, though! The new, fresh supply will be happening in the fall.

    This morning, DH is just experiencing a little arm pain from his jab. Yeah for that!

    @northerndawn – glad to read you’re taking us on for July. Thank you so much for your dedication to our little band!

    @flourbaby – you get that tattoo!! Love love love how you describe our WOL. Oh so true.

    Onward and downward.

    Second post

    @flourbaby I second everything that you said. Bravo my lady!!!

    Day 29 MN/USA NFD

    I’m glad my previous post resonated with many of you. It helps me, as well, to delineate the tools that help me stay on track.

    I’m going to try to stay under or at BMR today. Scales put me at 3 lbs up from my lowest weight a month ago. It’s not where I want to be, but that’s not as bad as it could be, considering all I’ve eaten this month. I’m determined to have a focused, successful July.

    @flourbaby – I love that quote from Estee Lauder!

    Good luck to everyone!

    Day 29 UK CD

    Finally remembered to weigh myself this morning and still at Friday’s low of 173lb, 5lb down on the month. A WAY to go but that’s a solid start and looks like it’s bankable.

    I’m a bit short of food in the house just now – forgot to stock up on protein and veg box due tomorrow. It’s been grey, cool and wet for a few days which has turned my mind from salads to warming things, but feeling slightly off food.

    I had a long sleep but still tired, pain has dialled down but burning joints seem to be an ongoing feature of my long covid. Time to check in with GP again and get a review. But I’ve managed to get some stuff done today – a zoom meeting late morning and another late afternoon, some papers out for meeting tomorrow and mother-bubble for tea. We talked a bit about family history, the cost of utilities and growing plants. Small things but a big connection.

    Thank you for health wishes. It’s a long haul & some days are easier than others. Luckily I’ve been used to living with disabling conditions for the last 20 years but it’s hard to get my head around the new symptoms and patterns, working out restrictions and finding possibilities. Off for another epsom salts bath with wimbledon and early night.

    @northerndawn thank you for hosting July challenge. I love your long posts 🙂
    @at thank you for hosting June – you have been a lovely host, setting off to a great start, here when needed, and popping in with timely encouragement and reminders to keep on track!

    This is FiveTwoFan5252 !!

    Second post (effectively!)

    I have just done something that I have been meaning to do for ages

    I have changed my username to something a bit shorter and less of a mouthful!

    Hope you like my new name!

    From FiveTwoFan!!!

    Day 30, FD, Aus

    End of the month already?? Half the year gone? Seems hard to believe.

    Ending the month with a FD as we’re going out for dinner tomorrow on a day when I usually fast.

    Yes, @daffodil2010 – the 2019 Australia trip is still showing up for me too in the “featured topics” section. So dated! But it’s good to see many stalwarts are still here on the forum.

    @northgeorgia: what’s happening with Lola and co? Haven’t seen them in a while. Hope they make an appearance in July.

    Sausage and avocado?!? Yum! My mental taste buds are on fire, @flourbaby! (And I assume you mean the English sausage, not the American meaning?) And don’t forget the emergence of hip bones!

    Great results this month @michelinme, well done.

    Thank you for hosting @at! You didn’t seem “absent” at all.

    Looking forward to seeing you all again in July.

    Day 30 pocket list (I think I’ll need the company)
    @penz
    @fivetwofan5252 – no, I mean @high5!!! (GREAT new handle!)

    Day 30, U.K. FD700/750.

    Morning everyone it is FiveTwoFan here!

    @penz – glad you like my new handle 😊😊😊

    Oooh despite my new handle I’m not feeling much fasting love this morning!! I need some of your positive fasting vibes!! Hoping it’s going to be sunny-tastic here and that’ll help me fast!

    I’m also going to go & choose my dinner recipe NOW so that I have something to look forward to!

    I’ve been treating myself to white jasmine rice on fast days and I’m going testing one theory today that it’s the rice that’s causing night-time hunger which is waking me up.

    So NO rice today!!!!! 🤞

    @at – Thank you so much for hosting June! 😘

    Day 30 pocket list (I’m duplicating here!! 😅)
    @penz
    @fivetwofan5252 AKA @high5!!!

    Day 30 – UK – FD800

    Last day of this Mid Year June 2021 Challenge! A busy month, if a bit quiet on here and perhaps not the productive month I had hoped for but I’m finishing the challenge with my 3rd FD800 in a row as it was much needed after a yo-yoing month trying to lose the recent weight gained – I kept losing 2kg and then putting it back on throughout the month……will weigh in tomorrow and hope to start the July Challenge with a positive outlook for a more controlled month 🤞

    Thanks for volunteering to host us in July @northerndawn and I am looking forward to getting back to daily posting for motivation and support with my continuing 5:2 journey

    Great to read so many are ending this challenge with a positive frame of mind moving forward into July

    Did a great walk yesterday with my walking group – we went up to the top of Helm Crag the back way through Bracken Hause then dropped down into Grasemere – where one friend and I decided to stop for brief coffee before we walked back to Ambleside covering just over 13km and 270m of climb – (the others drove back home) we were blessed with a brilliant hot and sunny day with clear blue skies, however I did not join my HIP Class in the evening – legs felt a bit too tired……

    @daffodil2010 – good to hear your recovery is going well and hope your DH enjoyed the birthday meal you cooked for him
    @flourbaby – this is for you 🤗 for such an inspiring post about this WOL – I might not go as far as having the tattoo 🤣 but will put a “I 💜 5:2″ poster on my fridge door!
    @michelinme – 5lbs down = you had such a good restart in June leading you into the July Challenge on a positive note
    @high5 – aka FiveTwoFan5252 loving your new handle – looking forward to seeing @high5 posting in the July Challenge

    Day 30 pocket list (I think I’ll need the company)
    @penz
    @fivetwofan5252 – no, I mean @high5!!! (GREAT new handle!)
    @at

    Thank you all for your kind words and looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow in the July Challenge and remember that “If I quit now, I will soon be back to where I started. And when I started, I was desperately wishing to be where I am now”

    Day 30 UK NFD

    I’m calling it up 2lbs this month , I too have been yo-yo ing but I’m gearing up for July when I’m definitely going to drop a few pounds

    Thank you for hosting @at Your posts are always a good read

    See you all in July and happy 🐫 day

    Day 30 – USA/GA – NFD

    June 1 weigh-in: 223 lbs. Today’s weigh-in: 223 lbs. Ah, the “lost” month. July will be different. I’m feeling determined!

    “It’s been a while,” Lola says.

    “Since what?” I look at her inquisitively.

    “It’s been a while since I’ve been asked to be a bridesmaid. Of course, the last thing I expected was for a total stranger to ask me while on vacation in the mountains.”

    I look around the restaurant. It was very well-appointed, with its linen napkins and velour-covered menus. A waiter refills the glass stemware next to my plate with cool water.

    I glance at the empty spaces and ask, “I wonder where John, Rita, and the rest of their crew are?”

    “Probably still at the venue sorting things out,” Wesley says over sips of water.

    “Well, I sure hope they get here soon. I’m hungry,” I say. “But it’s probably not right to order until everyone arrives.”

    Wesley nods, setting the glass down. “Mmm. And we know they’re paying. Have you seen the prices here?”

    Lola rolls her eyes and suddenly waves to a small group next to Rita at the entrance. They begin their walk over with the host to our table, and I begin to feel a little anxious. Meeting strangers is one thing. Meeting their friends and family members during such an important day in their lives is another matter. Especially the odd ones. I don’t know what to expect.

    Happy fasting, everyone. See you in July!

    Day 30 North canton OH NFD 16 days to beach vacation

    It’s the last day of June and as I look back at the month’s timeline, I am content with the way my fasting practice unfolded- it was not perfect but life rarely is. I really focused on strength training this month to build muscle and definition, scale numbers were quite stable and I just need to continue working on steadiness with my food intake. The journey continues.

    @high5 Yay!!!! I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am not to type out your previous handle, it was cute but soooo loooong LOL

    @northgeorgia I also wondered what happened to Lola and Wesley, and they are back!!!

    See you guys in July. Keep the faith and continue the journey – you are worth it

    Day 30 USA – NFD

    I ate well over my TDE yesterday, but that often happens for me on a DayAfterFastDay. Today will be better

    @at – thank you so much for leading us this month. Now ON TO JULY! I look forward to it as continuing with this group could not be better.

    @high5 – yes! Great new handle, and right, not the mouthful of all your 5-2’s of before!

    Onward and downward.

    Day 30 USA NFD

    The scale says I am up 3 lbs since the beginning of the month, two days in a row, so that is where I’m ending the month and starting July. It was definitely a month filled with all kinds of special events and extra calories. I’m pretty sure that if I hadn’t been on 5:2, at least in theory if not in best practice, that I would have gained much more than I did.

    I have a relatively quiet month coming up as far as events with food. And I’m determined to lose the 3 lbs I gained and trying for 2 lbs in addition, for a total of 5 lbs down in July.

    @high5 – I’m also loving your new handle! Good job! And since it’s about noon my time, and therefore 6 hours later for you, I wonder how your rice-free FD is going? White rice is like sugar to me and I avoid it. And it has higher arsenic levels than many other grains and plant because of the efficient way it absorbs it from the soil. I use riced cauliflower instead.

    @northgeorgia – You stayed steady this month, and that is quite an accomplishment! Nice to see Lola and the crew back!

    @michelinme – I hope you are feeling better each day. I agree that 5 lbs down is a great achievement for the month.

    @flourbaby – I also look forward to your posts for levity and inspiration.

    @brightonbelle – We will both do better in July!

    @at – Thank you so much for hosting our group in June,🤗💐, especially during a month when you were so busy. I have no doubt that you will get back to your happy weight. And, I am in awe of your dedication to physical activity and exercise, truly. Glad to hear you rested your legs after your epic hike.

    See you all over on the July Challenge.

    Day 30 UK CD

    Delighted to be an extra lb down this morning. I won’t bank it but save one for my official July start/weekly Friday weigh day. Can’t believe i’ve FINALLY got some mojo and oomph and making progress! Now to build momentum…

    Didn’t sleep well last night, still v tired & plenty of pain. I’m delighted not to be going out this week until Saturday when my women’s group have a trip to the coast to visit one of our number. Leaving at 8.30 and back around 7pm makes for a v long day out but lovely to see the sea and spend time in person rather than online.

    Today’s gone well! I took the morning off to rest and potter gently, then do some research for the weekend. My fortnightly fruit & veg box arrived which is cause for rejoicing – aubergine, courgette, cauliflower, cucumber, avocados, tiny new potatoes, onions, cabbage, lettuce, something else, flat white peaches, honeydew melon, green pears and gooseberries – YUM!! I think that’ll be a few meals, a batch cooked dal, plenty of salads and fresh fruit each day.

    This afternoon I chaired a conference planning meeting on zoom which was excellent – everyone in good form and creative thinking together. Then stewarded online service and led a small reflection group afterwards. I’m just abou to potter & catch up with wimbledon then jump in the bath. Epsom salt baths seem to take the edge off really well.

    @at thank you again for being a great host! It’s about quality not quantity and you do it so well 🙂
    @high5 i love your new name – like @basyjames i’m delighted not to be typing out the old one again 😀
    @daffodil2010, @jaifaim and other friends who’ve been away or gone quiet – hope all’s well and look forward to seeing you in the next challenge xx

    Day 30+1 Melb Aust

    Well, I’ve been very quiet this month, but did manage a small loss of 0.7 kg. It’s better than none. July will be better!

    @at Thank you for hosting us this month.

    See you all in July 🙂

    Day 30+1 – UK

    Goodbye to June – Thank you to all who participated in this mid year June 2021 Challenge – many of us were a bit quiet this month but we are still here and ready to make a fresh start in the July Challenge with @northerndawn

    “If I quit now, I will soon be back to where I started. And when I started, I was desperately wishing to be where I am now”

    Final Check-in,

    Well June hasn’t exactly been a good month for me, I haven’t been entirely ‘present’ and certainly not keeping track of FDs, they were very few & far between!!! 😢

    Anyway, onwards to July!!! 💪 💪 💪 💪

    @at 🎉🎉 thanks for hosting our June challenge, where would we be without these challenges? The hard-core 5:2 challengers here are holding fast 🙌 whether maintaining, resetting or trundling along on a level path, my route may be mountainous, but as some genius aptly posted……………………………………….
    “If I quit now, I will soon be back to where I started. And when I started, I was desperately wishing to be where I am now”

    Many thanks @at for hosting June, onwards to July.
