    Day 17 Pocket List!
    @penz
@lilymartin (great to have you back)
    @gretta

    Day 17, Emden Germany, FD

did well on the weekend, potassium this morning 3.8. Have to be over 3.5, wanted to be over 4.0 but I’m fine so 3.8 must be high enough.

@ciren2 I hope the physio will give some relief.

@daffodil2010 stay strong, you know the weight will go down!

@basyjames enjoy your stay! You all must be so exited, it must feel like birthday or Christmas.

@lilymartin welcome back, good to have you with us again! I added your name on the spreadsheet in case you want to use it.

    Have a nice day everyone!

Day 17: Gloucestershire, UK, CD (?)

I’m in so much pain when I first get out of bed. Sharp knives in the hip when I bear weight on that leg. Luckily it improves as I walk around….but STAIRS….ow ow! See what the physio says today. I’m sure she won’t DO anything. I’m also going to try to get a doctors’ appointment.

@lilymartin: Welcome back….I know all about falling off the wagon and regaining the weight. Hang around anyway and pick up the good vibes.
@dykask: Well put! Eating is more fun than fasting…BUT YOU CAN fast, lucky you.

Off to ork now….see you later.

    Day 17 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

Another FD over with, & still no change. But I think the ADF is going to change things up this week, as well as planning my NFDs better.

@ciren2 – I love that you’re still so cheerful and inspirational, despite your aches & pains. I hope you get some relief this week. I checked my stats, and I’m averaging 12,000 steps anyway, so I guess with a little more effort I could get to 15,000. But not every day. Any postie vacancies..? But I’m only available part time 😉

@songbirdme – good to know I’m not the only one who finds the mint/dark chocolate combo irresistible. It should carry a government health warning! I can have a couple of squares of the regular dark chocolate – on NFDs of course – & then leave it alone. But the mint?! My own fault for buying it in the first place.

It’s yet another public holiday here today – as yesterday’s Youth Day fell on a Sunday – commemorating the Soweto uprising in ’76.

I hope everyone manages to make some progress this week, now we’re over the halfway mark.

    Day 17 – Ireland – NFD
Welcome back @lilymartin and @hedwig6 You can do this!! 💪
@penz i Hope your feeling brighter today! ☀️
@gretta it must be very frustrating for you not to be able to exercise but you will be back on track soon…👍
@redrockgirl and @basyjames wishing you all the very best of fun as you get to know the new additions to your family..
I’m facing into a very busy week so hoping today will be a good FD and will see then how the week pans out…

    Day 17 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – FD

First FD of the week. I was having evil thoughts yesterday of taking a break from thus WOL….what is going on? But I gave myself a good talking to, told myself I am slim, healthy, active, full of energy, can fit into most of my size 10’s, look better at 52 than I did at 42…….this temporary blip with constipation, pre-menopause, whatever…its precisely that…a blip.

So I have talked myself out of doing anything drastic as I just KNOW I will pile back on that weight….again. I am nearly two years successfully negotiating this WOL, and I won’t surrender. But, I think I will go back to basics, 5:2, and take it from there. I am not in the headspace for prolonged fasting right now.

I could almost say I am in maintenance but trying to lose that pesky 10lbs, and if I have to continue like this forever….well, keep thinking of the health benefits of this WOL. I have never been healthier.

So that’s my sermon and self-reflection over for the day.

@ciren2 and @snowflake56, @songbirdme, and @michelinme….the Sennacot is gently working so I no longer feel sluggish. Thanks guys.

@ciren2 oh I do hope you get some relief from that pain.

@michelinme a belated happy birthday, sounds like a fun day was had.

@redrockgirl352 what a great name for your new pet. Mick….good strong name, have fun and plenty of exercise with him ☺️

@lilymartin, welcome back. I remember you well from when I first joined. Your post actually inspired me not to hurl myself off the wagon, so many thanks for that. We are all here and have got you. Hang on in there.

    Day 17 – Reading, UK – CD

A little sunshine here today, which always brightens the mood. What have you done to your leg @ciren2? Sounds horribly painful. As for me, I’m trying to be as controlled as possible each day. Just three days until my French holiday, so not great hopes of a bikini body, but at least I’m not looking like the Michelin Man. Plus ca change …. Onwards and downwards tout le monde!

    Day 17, London, UK, FD,

I lost yesterday to a sugar haze, the weekend proved a bit tricky this time around, I think it was the wine gums on Saturday!!! I think I’ve had more sugar this weekend than the in the past month!!! Anyway, I’m back on the wagon this morning.

    Happy belated Birthday @michelinme!!!

I’ve ordered some new bathroom scales as I snapped a foot off of the old ones ………………….. balancing it on a bit of wood wasn’t going to work!!! I hope the new ones are 100% more accurate and show me 5lbs lighter!!!! I’ll hang onto that fantasy until they’re delivered!!!

@kaywesterman, I hope it’s nothing serious, feel better soon!!

@lilymartin, Welcome Back!!!! I know & you know just how great this WOL is, but as with anything you’ve got to actually do it!!! Stick with us and we’ll travel this rocky road together, the wagon awaits!!!!!

Even if you’re hanging on to the wagon by your fingernails, you’re still ON the wagon!!!!

    Day 17 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 FD

@daffodil2010 sounds like we are having similar challenges currently…..perhaps its a 2 years in 5:2 fatigue thing and we just have to get past it. Like you I had thoughts of taking a break from 5:2 last month as I was feeling fed up of struggling to shift the few pounds I gained over winter but I’ve managed to convince myself to go back to basics……the alternative of giving up and becoming obese again doesn’t bare thinking about. To be honest I will be glad to see the end of June as I am bored of calorie counting and logging everything but I will keep it up for the month just to prove that it does work…….and I want to see my goal weight again!

    Day 17 USA (Illinois) NFD

Silver Sneakers, P.E.O., and Choral Society social (with finger foods) this evening – not going to try a FD until tomorrow.

@lilymartin – great to see you back! You do know what a great place this is for support and encouragement, no matter the “wagon” status.

@ciren2 – sure do hope you get some help from your physio or doctor. Living with pain is awful.

@funshipfreddie – when I was a kid in Chicagoland, we got Frango Mints from the iconic Chicago store Marshall Field’s. Aunt Mildred always had them at Christmas. I got hooked at a very young age to those delicious morsels: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frango

    Onward and downward.

Day 17, Boston, USA – FD

Day 16 NFD, Day 15 NFD

Messed up the eating over the weekend and the NFDs ballooned out too far. Reset button today for a CD, and more CDs plus FDs to follow this week. After the weekend – Currently over my start of June weight!

@rabbette, thanks for the info re planks. The doctor I saw re the abdo pain has told me to forgo the planks, that I had a muscle injury, and to take a rest from my exercises till it settles, which it has been doing. Much less pain now, and vigorous walking is now okay again; will resume exercising tomorrow or Wednesday. I actually have been doing “pushups” off the wall for months now, so will probably just continue doing that.

@michelinme, happy belated birthday – hope you’ve had a good day.

@redrockgirl302, great that Mike has joined your family. Do keep up the walking. My brother’s family had a blue heeler cross that they didn’t walk enough, and she often resorted to “herding” the patio furniture out of boredom.

    Onward and downwards everyone.

    Day 17, VA, USA, FD

Saturday I ate and was Merri 😉 On Sunday went to the movies and saw Rocketman – wore my sequence top and a striking pair of cat eye eyeglasses. LOVED the movie, they did a great job capturing the charisma, and essence of the fabulous Elton John.

    ,-*’ ^ ‘~*-.,_,.-*~~*-.,_,.-*~’ ^ ‘*-,
    OK you PLANK folks…
    ,-*’ ^ ‘~*-.,_,.-*~~*-.,_,.-*~’ ^ ‘*-,
@betsylee & @songbirdme, always start easy, then increase. AND dear sweet @betsylee, it is quite easy to get injured from trying to do too much to fast. So eventually when you feel better try this…

ARMS in EXTENDED position, do each of these for at least a week, before moving to the next level. (You could time yourself 30-ish seconds or count several of your breaths! Make sure you BREATHE, holding your breath will cause one to strain.
NOTE: I also prefer to lower down like a mini (very mini) pushup like lowering down 1 inch or so. (exhaling on the way down and inhale on the way up) Keeps my breath moving. *when I was first starting AND after I had an injury of a sprained wrist that took 6 months to heal *was NOT doing plank at that time* also a shoulder injury after the sprain. So I have had to re-start all my planks from the basics.
Also the lowering down I can count up to 5 “pushups” then increase 1 a day for the week, until I go to the next week. Etc…

    1. Start at a countertop and hold plank with arms extended.
    2. Then move to hands in a chair (you could hold the sides of the chair if your wrist are sensitive.
    3. Then the floor (knees down)

If you feel like you are not ready for the next level don’t do it, simple as that, stay with what feels easy (when in doubt and just add a couple more MINI pushups)

    @penz – ↫↫↫↫↫ woot woot! ↬↬↬↬↬ You got GRAPHICS!

@snowflake56 – I know the first time I saw a video of someone doing elbow plank (I was in my mid 30s and no strength in my core) I was like hummm I tried it and I could barely get my belly off the dang floor. I could do regular plank, not long, but I could at least do it.

@funshipfreddie – I say BA to that 15,000 steps. I think (and I am definitely an expert on the subject <said in my BEST sarcastic tone>) That moving more often is the best for the body. I just think we don’t move enough throughout the day. I noticed GREAT improvement in my mental and physical well-being just by moving more often, and I only try for a goal of over 5,000 steps a day. I go for how early can I hit my 5,000 step goal *I’m very goal oriented however if I my goal seems out of reach I just won’t even try. I found that trying to achieve my 5,000 steps earlier and earlier throughout each day, much more achievable AND even do-able on the weekend when I might be max’n and relax’n.

@michelinme – LOL I read this “(great graphics!!!) like Robin would have said it to Batman on the 60s TV show.

@ciren2 – awe you poor thing. Sharp Knives in the hip sounds dreadful. I get the nawing aches in the right hip.

@daffodil2010 – constipation can make you feel pretty frumpy, you got this, and those pesky 10lbs. I feel like I’m at the pesky 30! We WILL prevail!

@missybear – Maintenance is real! And while I am not there, I know it will be just as important to be on my game or else I’ll end up where I am now. Stay strong!

Day 4 – USA (New Jersey) – FD
I just started the fast diet this Friday and was excited to find this community. I fasted Friday and am having my second fast day today. I got discouraged to see I had gained two pounds over the weekend, but am hoping some of it is water weight. How often do you weigh yourself on this diet? I am curious what the most popular practice is.

Day 17 California FD (goal is 72 hours LFD)

@mamajama welcome! I only weigh myself weekly to avoid frustration.

Gotta go, I’m only on hour 3 of a 10.5 hour workday!

Well, had the appointment with the physio….a very nice lady. Took down all the grisly details and showed me a couple of exercises to do over the next two weeks before she sees me again. Sucking in the tummy (basically), and also trying to get a stretch in the left buttock muscles (where she thinks the “seat” of the trouble lies)! This one involves maximum contortions, looking a bit like a stranded crab….not sure I can manage it!!
@funshipfreddie: HA! as it happens we ARE short-staffed and are looking for (I think) three part-timers. Bit far to come from South Africa every day though!
I’ve kept my eating under control so far today, not a FD but I count it as a CD if I don’t eat anything else…..

    Day 17 UK FD

Woke too early, up & out after gentle yoga & meditation. Amazingly managing a FD despite yesterday’s b’day indulgences – clearly makes the difference to have stayed clear from sugar & grains. But 1lb up today anyhoo…

So far so good. Had 200 calorie worth of apple, clementine, tofu & tomato thus far (not together!), cauliflower with green veg now for strawberries – my post-project treat 🙂 Early night bc urgent need to pace myself for a week of deadlines & train strikes…

    @jaifaim @daffodil2010 @flourbaby @betsylee thank you for birthday wishes 🙂
@lilymartin welcome back, and thank you for saying it like it is. I can already feel a temptation to treat weight as an arrival point, forgetting what made it go up as well as down…

    FD
    Florida

Thanks for your comments @matpi and @flourbaby. I got in today to see my Dr. she is recommending a MRI and make appointments with specialist. Have those scheduled but wish they were sooner. Won’t know until I see them. Waiting is so hard.
Trying to keep the fast going today.
Hope everyone has a great day.

Day 17 – Eastern WA USA – Egg Fast

Ate LCHF all weekend only until full but decided to weigh this morning before starting a different eating plan. So disappointed to find a weight 8 lbs higher than when I ended the 90 plus hour water fast last Thursday. Trying a tweak for this week – have embarked on an Egg Fast of at least 3 days. I heard about it on-line and researched this version of a keto diet meant to help get off a plateau. It keeps carbs super low and has eggs as the core… I will still eat TRE with about a 6 or 8 hour eating window; ending eating at least 3 hours before bed and only eating if hungry. I tried my first BPC (Bullet Proof Coffee) this morning. The recipe I followed was: about 8 oz coffee, 1 1/2 tsp MCT, 1 TBSP butter. I used my individual sized blender/bullet style to froth the coffee. I really enjoyed it. If my blender would have been bigger I would have done 16 oz at a time. No cream in it. It was mentioned that cream and sweetener often stalls weight loss. I was surprised how smooth and yummy it was! I may try it in my regular blender next or get a hand held frother so I can do it in a larger mug – then I’d do at least 16 oz coffee, 1 Tbsp MCT oil & 1 or 2 TBSP butter.

@mamajama – when following the regular 5:2, @at has often suggested weighing in once a week, the morning after the 2nd FD of the week. Welcome BTW to this awesome group!

@rafiki44 – I wish you well on your goal of a 72 hour LFD! It’s good to change it up from time to time, to keep your body guessing.

@ciren2 – glad your PT visit went well. Idea – perhaps ask if a sketch of the exercises is available. I know I appreciated that when I went to a PT after an injury. She demonstrated the exercises as well as gave me a printed copy of the directions along with kind of stick figure drawings of how to do them. It really helped me remember how to do things when I got home.

Saw this quote elsewhere that I liked: A winner is a loser who tried one more time 🙂

@annemarilyn: It’s ok….she gave me a printout showing the exercises.

    Day 18 – Japan – NFD

Completed my fast. It was harder than normal but far form my most difficult day of fasting! Just felt it a bit more.

    Day 18, Canberra, OMAD

Experiencing that lovely PFDS. How did the rest of the Day 17 Pocket Listers go?

Lots of injuries at the moment testing people’s mental strength: thinking of you @ciren2, @gretta, @johnnyr, @kaywesterman. It’s hard enough to get motivated to exercise when you’re injured, but with these cold wintery conditions (southern hemisphere) or unrelenting rain (UK!) it’s even hard to get outside! Stay strong – we’d holding your virtual hand!

Yay for your successful self-talk @daffodil2010. Sometimes it is useful to sit ourselves down and give ourselves a stern talking to! Seems it has worked for you.

I laughed at your scales @flourbaby. You snapped the foot off it? Sounds like a revenge act, to me!

Welcome @mamajama. You’re off to a great start with two FDs already. I’m sure you’ll receive lots of advice re how often to weigh in and that’s something you’ll need to work out for yourself. For me, I weigh the same time once a week. More often than that and I get discouraged about those minor fluctuations that are just normal. Your weight can move up and down during the day so I try not to get too fixated on the number. What better works for me is how I feel, and how my clothes are fitting. That, and the longer term downward trend. (There’s a handy tracker on the website.)

    Stick to the wagon, everyone!

Day 17, Rocky Mountains, US, CD

Thank you for asking about Mick 🐕 @ciren2 (wonderful that you also have a rescue 🐕❤, Mick is about 2 years old), @rafiki44, @michelinme, @penz, @jaifaim, @daffodil2010, @betsylee.
Yes, he settled in well, all so new to him as this is his first house, we are learning together and from each other. Yes, lots of exercise is important. Doggie School starts Thursday! 🐕🎓

@ciren2: Hope your pain will go away with these new exercises or at least help with the pain.
@kaywesterman: Hope you will feel better soon.
    @lilymartin: Welcome back!

    Hope everyone has/had a good Monday! ⚘⚘⚘

Day 18 country west Australia CD
AAhhhhhh!! It really IS so good to be back and in touch with all my ‘old’ friends.
To those of you thinking of giving up on this WOL – DON’T !!!!!!!
MY suggestion is to try to stick with 5:2 even if in a modified form.
For SOOOOO long I fooled myself into thinking it wouldn’t hurt to have a bit of this, a bit of that.
Except of course that all somehow morphs into a bit more this and a bit more of that until suddenly one has ( ie I have ) consumed a TRUCKLOAD of rubbish.
I got to the point when on a FD I would think ‘I haven’t really eaten that much’ – not sure how many calories in a bucket of fries but it sure as hell is NOT under 500 or possibly even 5000 calories!!!
Such is the ability of the mind to fool myself.😫

IT would be easy to blame circumstances ( lots of hospital visits/ sickness/ death of family members); lack of time; any number of things but the cold hard FACTS are that I am responsible for what I eat EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
Apologies for shouting but seriously how crazy is it to KNOW what works ( accountability; posting on this forum; doing what WORKS) and then throwing it all away and trying to eat like a wolf and think that you will lose/ maintain weight.
But now I have put my brain back in my head and am seriously doing 5:2 .
Yesterday’s FD went well. Slightly over 500 but under 600 calories.
I feel SOOOO much better already – clearer headed ( that wouldn’t take much…!) , less bloated and already 500 gms down ( water weight I guess but hey when you’re this out of whack any loss is a plus – or a minus depending on how you look at it!!)
I am back to counting calories, my LEAST favourite pastime but it certainly helped me when I initially started 5:2.
@mamajama I am a daily weigher , weekly recorder ie I weigh every day ( and have spent 18 months watching the scales steadily rise!!) but I only record my weight on Saturday.
The daily fluctuations don’t worry me ( obviously!!!) but it does let me see how my weight is going ( steadily upwards to this point sadly BUT this morning it started heading south and I am determined it will keep doing so).
Thank you to all with supportive words. It is so good to be back and after my severe half hearted attempts of the past year or so I do plan on sticking around and posting.
I think that was one of the main reasons for my initial success- accountability and posting and support of this group.🙏👍💐
@dykask it sounds as though you are close to your goal which is ..? You are a trooper with all your fasts.😇
@ciren2 if you have a mobile phone it can be helpful to have the PT taking pictures on your phone of you doing the exercises or even a little video. I do this with some of my clients – especially the younger ones who seem to ‘ lose’ the piece of paper with exercises on it but they are glued to their phones – so I know they can take their exercises with them – no excuses !🤸‍♀️
Have a good day all. It feels like I am going to !!😀🤞

Day 17 Ohio, US — MFD

The MFD has gone well. No problem with chills this time. That’s probably due to it being warmer than last week, although it was foggy with light rain (yes, more rain!) all day. I have been regular about getting my yoga practice in, but the rain has really put a damper on getting a good amount of walking in on a daily basis.

@lilymartin Not to worry about the extra eating during times of stress. That weight will come off a little bit day by day. The end of April until the end of May was an incredibly stressful time for me and the weight crept steadily upward. I think logging in here helped to keep the gain from being as severe as it could have been, and it may be possible that I’ve recovered enough that I can start losing weight again. In any case, being patient with ourselves in the short run, while being consistent in the long run, will see us through!

    Day 18 Melb Aust CD

Going okay, mid-afternoon and only about 500 cals so far. Dinner tonight, and that’s it. I’m really wondering about TRE, though – has anyone found it really actually helps with weight loss? For me, and the reason I stick with it, the main benefit is that it stops me snacking in the evenings, but I’ve seen no other benefit from doing it. Any comments anyone?

@rabbette, thanks for all the instructions re planking. Don’t think a countertop plank will work for me – I’m so short, my arms are always raised to work at any counters so I certainly wouldn’t be holding myself up from one. May try the chair, though, once the muscle pain has gone completely. I did my usual exercises okay today, though. Most of those ones have been given to me by the physio as ways to stretch and strengthen different body parts that I’ve injured in the past, so it’s straight leg raises, side raises, neck turns, upper body turns, legs up to stretch the lower back, etc., etc. Then I also use 2 kg weights to (gently) work on upper body strength.

@lilymartin, A mental “change” you may be able to apply – One thing I’ve done as I lose weight has been to several times set a bar when I go down to a particular weight, and determine that I won’t go above it again. I used to do that when much fatter – I had a particular weight that I NEVER allowed myself to go over, which kept the weight gain under a bit of control. Didn’t lose a lot, but never went over that weight. Now I’ve been doing 5:2 for slightly over 6 months, I have kept resetting the bar a little lower every few kgs. At the moment, the bar is 75 kg, but I need to push it down a bit, as I have been hovering between 73 – 74 kg for maybe 6 weeks. But, will NOT go over 75 kg.

    Okay, enough. Data entry awaits.

    Day 18 – Melbourne Aus – NFD

I forget how much joy, motivation and support I get from reading everyone’s posts, so for the rest of the month I will try to read them all (even if I’m struggling to find time to respond).

@ciren2 hope you manage to get some relief, especially in your line of work – ouch!

@daffodil2010 stay strong! I’m also having those thoughts at the moment –I try to remember that those thoughts will pass, and I remind myself of the quote @at first introduced me to – If I quit now, I will soon be back to where I started. And when I started I was desperately wishing to be where I am now. If you can maintain your current weight, you’ll be set to lose when the motivation returns!

@missybear I hear ya – I’m coming up to my 2 years (early November) so it just may be that. Time for a recipe shake up perhaps?!

@mamajama welcome! I usually weigh weekly, but sometimes I leave it longer – it’s nice not to feel like a slave to the scales sometimes – plus clothing size is usually a good indicator of how your body is going!

@lilymartin good to have you back!! And thanks for the strong words – agree that a 700cal FD is better than a ‘I think I’m fasting but actually snacking’ day.

    Day 18: Gloucestershire, UK: NFD

My CD went pretty well yesterday, I didn’t eat anything after about 2.30pm!!!!!!
    I’m diligently doing my exercises.
It’s ok @lilymartin, I’m more at home with bits of paper than mobile phones (one of the few, I suspect)! The very worst time for pain is first getting out of bed AND the first trip down the stairs…fortunately things improve as I walk around, carefully, at first.
Thanks you EVERYBODY for you kind concern, I seem to be forever moaning about aches and pains on this forum, when I SHOULD be fasting….ha….ha..!

@redrockgirl302: Good luck at the doggy-school…..it’s good that you’re such a responsible owner. Give him a ((hug)) from me; I LOVE dogs xx
In my job I sometimes get bitten by them, but not often if you learn to read the signs…

Must go now, see you later xx

    Day 18 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – NFD

Normally I would be on a B2B today but cutting myself a break and having an NFD instead, with tomorrow being my 2nd FD.

Thanks @missybear and @gretta…interesting that we are all around the two year mark…..I had heard before that the two year itch is an actual thing, as is the 7 year itch…..so if we can get through this we can wait another 5 at lower weight before we feel it again 😄 Hopefully 👍

So I succumbed to the old cashew nuts at bedtime to see if they would knock me out, but no, it was pretty restless. But it was a full moon and it was bright at bedtime and bright at 4am and birdies singing (love the rural life)…anyhow, totting up my calories I scaled under 800.

By the way, my contract in work is due to finish end of August. I was asked if I would be interested to come back and work on “The Singapore Project”..(sounds ominous, whatever it is) IF they get the go ahead to commence. I said yeah sure, as long as you are aware that I am taking 4 weeks off mid September to go travelling with DH. The joys of contract work eh? So I might be set up with a wage for another while yet. 😀

Loved yesterday’s pocket list, and giggled at @dykask‘s very artistic updating of it 😆

@ciren2 hope the exercises work. I am on level 2 now of the Shred and it was at precisely this point before that I hurt my sciatica. I have spent the past few months building up the glutes and legs etc, yet, I felt a little twinge when doing one of the moves…..so I am going to take it carefully and keep building strength. Fingers crossed you get relief.

Nice sunny morning here……it’s almost midsummer…..lets do this.

    Day 18, Emden Germany, FD

    @basyjames today is the day!

@daffodil2010 and @missybear I also often feel I don’t want to do this, but what’s the alternative? It’s only two days a week where we have to restrict eating. I make sure I eat things I really like. Today we’re having North Sea shrimps, it takes forever to peel them and you can eat them without anything else because they taste so good.

@rabbette I never had any problems with planks but I can’t do any sit ups, that feels like taring my abs. Not good at push ups either. But I think doing planks is enough.

@mamajama welcome! I added your name to the spreadsheet in case you want to use it.

    Pocket list day 18
    @snowflake56

    Have a nice day everyone!

    2nd post

    @ciren2 well done!

    Day 18 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – FD

@songbirdme – the Frango mints sound amazing. I checked out the website. They must be good – they’ve been around for 101 years! And they started out in Seattle. A lot of good things seem to come from there, including Amazon & Starbucks. The Space Needle was ‘born’ in ’62 – same as me 😅

@ciren2 – there isn’t enough tea in China to get me back to work, even part time! I’d be fired for being late in the first week anyway. 9:30am and I’m not even dressed yet 🙄

@rabbette – I’m sure you’re right re the 15,000 steps. Apparently the average person does less than 5000. Just moving periodically rather than sitting for hours on end would be a more achievable goal for most people.

Not so many people fasting today. Good luck if you are! ☘

    Day 18 – Reading, UK – CD

I’m not sure what’s going on with me – I just can’t seem to get back into the fasting groove – and feeling a fraud here. I baked a ginger cake to take away with us on holiday, and then we ate half of it last night. So I baked another one! I’ve lost it, totally lost it. So just trying to get back to being sensible today …

    Day 18, London, UK, NFD,

I’m having a minor ‘procedure’ tomorrow, so I won’t be fasting until Friday at the earliest, I may even give this week a fasting miss. I may miss posting on Days 19 & 20 too.

Welcome @mamajama, have a look at the OP posted by our fabulous June host @penz on how to negotiate these lovely challenges. I weigh daily, just to keep me honest, it gives me a better idea of how my body copes with certain foods, for instance I can gain 1-2lbs even if I ate to my TDEE the day before if it contained any refined carbs!!!

@ktcaroline, the only suggestion I have is to ditch the temptations, at least until your fasting muscle gets a bit stronger!! I bought a multipack of timeout wafers last week, only 112 cals each but there’s only 1 left!!! That’s 672cals I really didn’t need or want, but resistance was futile!!!! Rookie mistake!!!

Enjoy your day today everyone, and keep the faith!!!

    Day 18 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 NFD

Yesterday’s FD ended just under 600 calories, it was a good one, no hunger. Aiming to be controlled today and tomorrow then another FD Thursday as usual.

@lilymartin thanks for sharing your experience it came at a good time for me as I grapple with maintenance and have been losing grip a bit. Good to have you back amongst us.

@flourbaby hope all goes well for your procedure tomorrow.

Have a good day everyone 🙂

    Day 17, UK, NFD
    Day 18, NFD
    66.2kg

Had 4 feast days in a row and scales showing it. OH has been on holiday which means dinners out and netflix binging with lots of unhealthy snacks.
    Not time for gym either.
Social life also kicking in this week – have 2 nights out (which include food, lots of it) the next couple of days. Have a big family gathering this weekend too. No way I will manage a FD500 until next week the earliest. Will try to eat sensibly at least and get back on track on tuesday next week. Plenty of time to reach goal (65kg) by the end of this month.

Have a good week everyone x

    Day 18 USA (Illinois) FD

Did okay yesterday despite having our Choral Society social last evening, complete with a “grazing table” of amazing treats and goodies. I saved calories on the day so I could enjoy it.

@lilymartin – you are very wise and know getting back here will help you along your 5:2 journey… or should I say “saga” of life? 🙂

@flourbaby – may your procedure be uneventful and easy.

@snowflake56 – those North Sea shrimp sound oh so delicious!

@ktcaroline – hang in there. You’ll be back in the groove before you know it. You can do this.

    Onward and downward.

    Day 18 UK CD

Yesterday was good enough FD & this morning weight was back to a pre-birthday 64.6kg. Just 0.6kg more and I’ll be back to early May/pre-virus weight 🙂 @mamajama i weigh daily for accountability & record once/week to track progress

Broke fast 1pm with a tiny apple & peanut butter, now warm avocado, tomato & hummus salad and a little later supper will be cauliflower, mushroom, asparagus and vegan cheese followed by berries – yum 🙂

I’ve got a project to get edited & back to designer today – details matter so been decluttering to help me focus….all the niggly things cleared, I’ve eaten, planned the rest of the week and even got ready for tomorrow…. timeto slip into PJs and curl up with a big pile of edits 🙂

@daffodil2010 great news about the new contract possibility… & delighted your van is nearly ready for the road! Are you staying in Ireland for your first trip?
@missybear @ktcaroline @lilymartin sometimes it only takes one good day -or fresh look at treats become habits, back to basics or revisiting goals – and we’re back on track @)
@ciren2 well done with the CD!!! Hope you have a good acupuncture appt 🙂
@flourbaby hope all goes well with your procedure xx

Onwards & downwards lovely people – we’ve got this! 🙂

@daffodil2010: Do be careful. You don’t want to end up like me, straining yourself! I must say, I’m having trouble getting the “glute-stretch” maybe my stomach’s in the way so I can’t get my knee up tight enough?! Well…we ALL know the answer to THAT one…
Aaah “The Singapore Project”…..could be one to go for, I reckon.
@funshipfreddie: You disappoint me…and I thought you’d enjoy the daily commute!! You’d have to be here by 7.15am though…
@mamajama: In the days when I was actually ON the wagon I used to weigh the morning after a fast-day….motivational. So twice a week.
    @flourbaby: Good Luck tomorrow xx

Day 18 – Eastern WA USA – Egg fast Day 2

It seems interesting how PJs came up in posts today – @funshipfreddie in PJs as writing, and @michelinme getting into PJs to get some work done… I’m still in PJs. Yes, this 1st “retirement” year the schedule of days is very fluid for me…Today is the last day of school in the district in which I taught in 2017-18.

@betsylee – regarding your wonderings about TRE. Some also call it IF (intermittent fasting). Early in my 5:2 journey, I met someone who had lost the weight she wanted on the 16:8 IF or TRE. This morning I came across a YouTube video by a medical person, Cynthia Thurlow “Intermittent Fasting: Transformational Techniques”. It’s a TEDx Greenville talk. She highlighted the many benefits of IF in addition to weightloss. It’s worth the 11-12 minutes.

    @songbirdme – I like seeing how you’re navigating maintenance.

In light of recent relationship discussions, a saying I saw yesterday: “Pay attention when people react with anger and hostility to your boundaries. You have found the edge where their respect for you ends.”

Day 18, Boston, MA – Planned for today: NFD, Run >= 1 mile

Didn’t fast yesterday after all. Clearly I am not doing this well since I have yet to do a single one since I restarted here.

I ran 1.5 miles and not 3 as planned, since I met a friend for a walk earlier than I had planned.

    Steps total: 21,665

Down 2 lbs since the start of the week. Probably just normal fluctuation and not true loss.

@mamajama, welcome! I’m new to this group too. And I weigh every morning, because I like data and also because it gives me a better sense of normal fluctuation.

@ktcaroline, I’m right there with you. I did this before but simply cannot seem to get my brain in the right place to do it again. Let me know if you crack the code.

Day 18, VA, USA, FD? maybe?

Lately I start out Tuesdays as FDs and then see what happens. For lunch I decided to make a tuna salad. I actually took a moment to think about it. (((Usually I just make a HUGE tuna salad, with every veggie known to people and then eat WAY too much of it.)))

    Today instead I prepped
    2 carrots 1 purple, 1 yellow
    1 stem of celery
    1/4 onion
    Can of tuna
    1.5 TBLS of mayo
    Hand full of arugula
Fresh Dill (oh my gosh that was so good)

I decided to calculate the calories for the whole thing.
Which roughly ended up being about 200.
I then made a decision that I would rather eat the whole thing and not have crackers with it. (I love eating the buttery cracker with this, they are called Ritz here) none the less. I observed what was more important to me today, and decided enjoying the whole tuna salad was more important *I wanted all the veggies!

    So YAY, no crackers.

Tuesdays I teach 4 classes of yoga and they are at 4 different locations, so there is time spent driving to each location and what not, so 4 classes then becomes quite a full day.

I’ve got another hankering for cold brew, but I know I won’t go get it, because it is too late in the day (its 11:30am) for that and cold brew after 10:00 keeps me awake EVEN more than I already get at night.

@daffodil2010 – I tried the cashew nuts last night and I did fall asleep easier, but as usual I did not stay asleep. I either don’t need as much sleep or there is something else causing this lack of sleep. (Getting older and hormonal change I’m sure does not help with sleep) Although I still have a cycle, I can tell it is different than it used to be.

@snowflake56 – Yes sit ups used to be an arch nemesis for me as well. I did work on them tho and now they are easier and much more pleasant. I worked from laying down on the floor, legs and arms start straight up in the air. Then take arms and legs a little apart from each other (like you are going to reach over your head etc. Then bring them toward each other (you don’t even need to pick up the upper body from the floor, unless you feel like this is super easy.) eventually you could. I do at least 10 of those a day *or some version of it, its a harder version now.

@ktcaroline – its ok you are not a fraud. You are genuine for opening up to a difficult time with life/cravings/process. Thats when we need more support. I find that if I am feeing more hungry it is usually because I have NOT drank enough water. (A good trick I use with treats, cookies, cake, whatever) I pour myself an 8oz glass of water, I drink that first. Pour another 8oz glass of water have that WITH a small portion/slice of cake OR cookie etc. Finish that glass of water, then see if you REALLY want another piece, if you do… you guessed it pour another glass of water. Slow down and enjoy every bite.

@hedwig6 – as I mentioned to @ktcaroline check your water intake.

    Day 18 California. FD

Day 2 of LFD and doing okay so far. In fact I can unequivocally say the worst part is going to the bathroom 50 times a day because all the water I’m drinking goes straight through me. I’m getting paranoid thinking everyone at work is commenting on the number of bathroom visits I make!

I’m mainly able to do this because my OH is out of town for a few days so I can fast without inconveniencing anyone. I did have to tell my coworker I wouldn’t eat one of his champagne gummy bears because I was afraid it would get stuck in my teeth!

Day 18, Rocky Mountains, US, MFD

After a nice hike sitting now on the sofa with Mick snuggled next to me, snoring and having a lovely dog dream. 😊🐕❤

@ciren2: Yes, doggie school will be fun!

@flour baby: Good luck with your procedure! 🌻🌼🌷

So far had avocado🥑, egg🥚 and goat cheese🧀 on sourdough with onions and lots of red crushed pepper🌶. Drink was half a bottle of low sugar kombucha with water and an iced Venti Americano. I will have herbal tea later and more water as well.

All the best to everybody! ⚘⚘⚘

    Day 19, Canberra, OMAD

Your comment @ciren2, that you know how to read the signs from dogs to avoid getting bitten, reminds me of a story my brother told me. He’s an early morning runner, and he’d run past one house every day which had a Rottweiler which would race out barking at him, and chase him down his side of the fence. My brother took to clicking his fingers before he approached, and the dog soon learned that the ‘man who clicked his fingers’ was not a threat (ie would not go into his yard) and stopped barking. I bet you posties have all sorts of tricks up your sleeve!

@daffodil2010 – you must tell us more re the Singapore Project. It sounds so cloak and dagger!

Hang in there @ktcaroline – the fact you’re still logging in and posting suggests to me that your fasting groove is not too far deep!

Hope your minor procedure goes smoothly @flourbaby and it truly is ‘minor’.

@michelinme – your planned menu for Day 18 sounded so yum!

@rabbette – I like your ‘no crackers’ mentality.

    Day 19, Emden Germany, FD

@flourbaby hope everything goes well today!

@daffodil2010 hope the “Singapore Project” will work out!

@annemarilyn great quote and so true.

@rabbette thanks for the advice on the sit ups, I’ll try again.

@songbirdme the shrimps were delicious. The season only just started, we didn’t have any on the market last year, everything got eaten away by whiting.

@redrockgirl302 good start with Mick snoring on the sofa next to you.

    Pocket list day 19
    @snowflake56

    Have a nice day everyone!

    Day 19: Gloucestershire, UK, NFD:

I’ll try to be controlled in my eating behaviour today…
It will be a heavy day at work today (Wednesdays always are) so I must be very careful with my injuries. I have a doctors’ appointment tomorrow, which is my day off. I should meet “The Criteria” now, as I’ve started physio! What I really need, for now, is better pain relief (and an MRI scan would be great….but dream on…)! It would make a diagnosis, and stop the guesswork.

@hedwig6: Don’t let lack of fasting get to you. You are not alone, I’m the same. The wagon vanished from sight years ago for me, but stay on the forum, these people are great. Also you are taking a lot of exercise, so that’s a really good thing.

Have a good day everyone xx

    Day 18 – NFD
    Day 19 – Ireland – FD
Hi all – hope you are all having a good week…
@rabbette I meant to say thanks for all the info on planks…. I’m going to get planking from today and will build up slowly…
Also want to start some home weight training if I can…. finding recently that I’m aerobically fit and can cycle or walk forever but feel like my arms are getting weaker…
It’s a busy week here so not getting to really read posts but saw that some are struggling and just want to say “stick with us ”… you will get through this … I’ve definitely been there and recently too where I felt that I had lost all that I was going to but literally one day you wake up, notice a change and it’s just so worth it 👏 this is also supposed to be a slow process 🐢. My weight loss is so so so sloooow but that means that it shouldn’t just jump back up either which is great..
@snowflake56 I like that you eat your favourite good foods on FDs…. I tend to stick with very boring foods that will fill me but am going to have a re-think 🤔

My very busy week continues and will be travelling tomorrow so hoping today will be a good FD 🤞 although… I’m only thinking if getting up and I’m already hungry…😮

    Pocket list for today:
    @snowflake56
    @jaifaim
