  • …so a little background.
Until 10 years ago I was very fit, size 8 (uk), & training in 3 martial arts over 6 days a week.
Then, the accident. Multiple broken bones, two surgeries, followed by major depression.
10 years of wallowing & eating with no exercise or regard for my health has found me weighting 13.5 stone!

Heard a lot of good things about the fast diet & having finally restarted my training a year ago (albeit only 1 style 4 times a week) has left me determined to regain at least some of what I lost so I finally persuaded myself to take the last step this week & get my erratic eating habits under control.

So far only completed 2 fasting days which were not too bad as easy to ignore hunger when frantically busy at work but tomorrow will be the real challenge – 2 hours training on a fasting day. Any advice regarding how heavy exercise may be affected & how I can take steps to avoid problems?

    Hi Jaxon,
    Welcome here,
I hope 5:2 works really well for you, should do! I am no help with the heavy exercise, hopefully others will come along with some tips.
But don’t forget you can change the fast days, each week if necessary, so they are on your non training days (presuming you have a couple of them a week!)

    Hi Jaxon.
Welcome! I’d recommend changing fir fast day. I tried fasting on my gym day and felt very light headed come 4pm (I gym in the morning)
Good luck, I’m sure you’ll feel the benefits of fasting immediately. I did.

Surprisingly I managed to get through training relatively easily but by mid-afternoon had major stomach cramps & pounding headache so getting through the rest of the day was hellish! My 3rd fasting day & I exceeded my daily cals & ended up eating just over 700 but water alone wasn’t helping.

Will have to experiment with the best days to fast & if they are a training day pick one with only a one hour session & maybe split my cals differently.

On the upside, according to my scales today I lost 8.8lb in a week! A lot more than I expected but hopefully can stick to the diet & average 2-3 lbs a week once my body adjusts & gets used to it.

    Congrats Jaxon!
Yes, just keep trying different things until you can make 5:2 work in your life! I hope it is not too hard, it sounds like you are doing lots of good things!

I go to gym classes 5 times a week and purposefully arrange them around my fast days because sometimes even walking for 15 mins+ on an empty stomach can make me feel slightly light-headed. That said, I know some people who just plan their fast day food and exercise sensibly. E.g. eating their 500 calories at 6pm for dinner then going to a class at 8pm.
