  • Okay, so I have about 10kg to lose. I’ve been over weight for the past 15 years. It is time to come off. I’ve tried just about everything and usually gained everything back. I am drinking 2+ liters of diet coke… lower carb… but have a pretty strong sweet tooth. I started at a weight loss clinic a few weeks ago, — they took my blood, put me on an appetite suppressant and I’m currently down to 199lbs (approx 90.5kg). Saw Michael Mosley on NPR, here in the States, and was shocked. All the red flags were going off in my head and I don’t need to tell you the response from friends and family I received. But did some research, read the book and 2 others… and I’m in.

    So…. I’m here. 🙂
I decided to emulate closer to what I saw on the show.
This will obviously not be the way forward, but I think it is good for me.
Plus, since they took my blood a month ago, I’m going to have the clinic take my blood again on Thursday. I stopped eating Sunday night. Allowing water and hot tea, and my dinner is 70 calories of pure coconut water. I exercised Sunday night, Monday morning and today (Tuesday morning). I’m sticking with mild cardio with my heart rate avg 143 bpm – 30mins. Not too taxing. I should be in ketosis today… and the hot tea (chinese oolong) tastes REALLY GOOD! weird… never realized it even had a taste. I can’t believe I am still moving around! I have energy and a smile. I’m drinking at least 3 liters of water a day… and one of those liters have electrolytes (just to safe). I might be crazy tomorrow…. but I’m feeling good today and I’m about to pass the half-way line… down hill from there.

thinking about how to re-introduce food on thursday. I’m thinking a good Juice… with fruits and veggies may be the best ticket. we’ll see.

okay, 29hours left…. 🙂 woke-up with dry eyes…. definitely need to be sure I stay completely liquidated… I think I total 4liters each day…. but slacked off after my workout last night… or maybe it was having my 50 cal soup… maybe I didn’t pick the best… not sure. Regardless, i’m up and rolling. Had an odd moment last night stopping to get water with electrolytes on the way to the gym last night. all the sudden, all the food at store got my attention. I picked up a pretty rich cookie. bought it and told myself I would try it after the fast. Not the first thing I will have, but it helped me to not eat it, just knowing at some point I could have it.
I hope you all are doing well and feeling great!
    Joe

good luck Joe your almost there, xx

wow…. still going! 🙂 can’t believe I didn’t “need” the food on Monday.
Looking forward to lunch tomorrow. For now… just smiling. thanks for the well wishes, Fast For Life!

    Okay, so it is thursday.
I’m BLOWN AWAY that I am here!
I just went by the clinic and they told me I lose 9lbs and 6lbs was all fat!
    :):):):):):):)

Not going to go crazy with food… I’m the guy that has in the past polished off a box of oreos, eaten a dozen “hot now” donuts from Krispy Kreme…. You can smash all of the 200 calorie donuts together when they are hot and make them more like a hamburger. And yes, you can basically eat 2400 calories in less than 5 minutes.
Okay, that was where I was in the past that got me where I didn’t want to be.
Anyways, my first meal will be a Naked Juice – 15.2 fl oz. I’m sure my stomach will freak out, but it will get some nutrients without getting overwhelmed with quantity.

Hope everyone is having fun with it… one thing I did notice is that last night I keep my heart in the “fat burning” range… vs, I usually like to ramp up to crazy Max Heart Rate… I do think it may make a different when you are fasting to get the hear rate up, but not too high. But, I’m no expert and this is just speculation from what I have observed.

We’ll see if I can keep the weight down. 🙂
    All the Very Best!!
    Joe

    Congratulations, Joe!

    Okay – so update…. didn’t keep the weight off…. I’ve gotten up to 218.
On the other hand, ….. wait, there is not other hand!

    Once I realized I could do this… I went a bit crazy.
    All me.
And though it took me over a month, I got back to my original weight… and then kept going.
    Not proud.

    Even tried to fast, since.
Each time I sabotaged it on the first day by the second meal-time.

    So, here I am.
Got my tea at my desk
two people brought in homemade banana bread and other items.
    I’ve stayed strong, so far.

    I’ll keep you posted.

    Thanks
    Joe

    Hi Joe

It’s easily done, don’t be too harsh on yourself. You’re back in the right place for discipline and encouragement. You’ve fasted before so you know you can do it. Stay strong!

    Hi Joe, welcome back!

I strongly believe that it helps to think about the 5:2 as the beginning of a life style change and less about it being a fast way to lose weight.

From my own experience I can tell you I have lost 8kg in 12 weeks and I am very close to goal weight. The weightloss gets slower (!) over time, but one needs to be patient. As I did not have to lose a lot of weight it was particularly interesting for me to see that it went relatively quickly.

Nevertheless…the most important part for me is that I am eating now much “cleaner”. I was drinking between two and three cans of the full sugar Coke per day and for the last three months I have been either on water or tea. If you google Diet Coke you will find quite a lot of warnings re how they can trigger sugar cravings and how misleading the diet coke/pepsi or their zero versions are.

I log all of my food intake honestly on myfitnesspal, if in doubt I log more of the food and it is interesting to see how easy it is to under-estimate one’s intake. These innocent looking cookies…are…little devils when it comes to calories!

If you really want it, you can do it, but perhaps stop thinking about diet might be helpful?

    Best of luck
    Stef.

no more yo-yo, I am considering the 5-2 after I am done tomorrow with the full fast(less than 24hrs left). So far, so good. but really want to maintain afterwards. So, it looks as if the 5-2 is the only way I’m going to get into the lifestyle and really succeed. Thanks for ideas and support.

am wondering, come off of this one, what the best meal would be?
last time – I was pretty crazy and had no business putting that stuff into my body.
Looking at tuna salad with spinach and avocado, maybe?
I am looking for a way not to jump into old habits since my “desire” for the bad stuff is not that high, and if I an keep my body focused on healthier foods, it may not get those cravings back. Just a thought. Just don’t want to overdue the protein that I have worked-out (mostly cardio – T25 and cybex arc trainer – will maintain T25 and walking (hr up)) 2x daily on this and I am seeing results.
