  • Hi guys. So it was my first day and im not gonna lie, it was hard. Started off with a light breakfast and coffee (tea cup size, no milk or sugar…yuck). I continued to drink lots of boiled water till lunch time when i gave in to the piece of chicken in the fridge. Afterwards i had more water, boiled and normal, but by supper time i was super-hungry and ate a lite meal. Someone pls tell me this gets easier…pretty please

    Hi Suzy and welcome:

It does get easier. Some find eating one meal in the evening that is high in fat/some protein works well. Eating any carbs at all, especially at breakfast, usually makes you hungry for the whole day.

Here are some tips that might help: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

It became easier for me to deal with fast days when I figured out my “routine.” It was too difficult for me to be thinking about whether or not I should eat the piece of chicken in the fridge! And I love my morning coffee with milk, so I still drink it on fast days, just with a little less milk. I’d rather have the latte than eat breakfast, but that’s just me, you do what works for you. But do plan it out BEFORE your fast day and stick to it. You can always tweak the plan for the next fast day.

    My routine:
150 calories for morning coffee & milk, (1.5 cups of 1% milk)
50 calories for a snack, maybe 7 almonds eaten one-at-a-time or cup of miso soup
300 calories for dinner, usually a big salad with a tablespoon or so of meat or a sprinkle of cheese, or whatever vegetables I’m cooking for the rest of the family.

It was hard at first, but gradually I realized that a lot of my snacking was habit not hunger. After being on 5:2 for 5 months, I rarely consume all my morning or snack calories. At this point, it’s no problem to go grocery shopping or to cook dinner for the family on a fast day, but I still steer clear of planning what to cook (for that day or the future) on a fast day.

    Best of luck to you.
