  • How come it’s easier to do 500 calories on fast days than it is to do 1000 on feed days? I just started last week and so far, fast days are a breeze. But, non fast days I am hungry and go over 1000. I don’t have a big appetite even when im not dieting. I’m not eating alot, but I can’t seem to stop at 1000.

    Hi Littlelisa

Perhaps because doing 1000 calories a day is a really restrictive diet, and having 500 twice a week is going to make it very restrictive. Poor you.

5:2 isn’t supposed go be a diet but a way of life. So it has to be doable forever. Some people only check their fast day calories, and don’t calorie count for the rest of the week. Some do calorie count and try to stay under TDEE.

If you dont have a huge appetite, you might find the first option easier. I do the second. I frequently have only around 1000 calories, but if that was all I could have, I wouldnt last long. Funny how the mind works isnt it?

Have you calculated your TDEE, if not find it on the site, and work it out. If you have a problem, let me know. TDEE is the total number of calories you need to maintain your weight, incorporating the 500 calorie fsdt days (or a quarter of your TDEE if you prefer) means you eat around 80% of the calories you need to stay the same weight, hence you lose. Not as much as just 6000 a week you are trying to stick with, but it WILL work!
