  • Hay I’m Emmie, I just turned 30, and recently celebrated 2 years of sobriety. I have overcome some massive obstacles to be here today but sadly I hate the way I look. Because I was an alcoholic I used sugar as a substitute when I quit alcohol cold turkey (not recommended, thought I was gonna die!). I’ve managed to put on a massive 4stone since cleaning up so I’m now ready to lose it. I’ve joined a gym and have already started eating better. No Cola for 1 whole week (massive for me) no bread, lots of leafy greens, protein shakes etc. Really excited for this new chapter of my life. Any tips would be gratefully received, I’m having hunger pangs just thinking about It lol.

    Hi Emmie and welcome:

Not many people truly understand and appreciate what you have already accomplished. Congratulations!

As for weight loss and 5:2, here is most of the information you will need to be successful: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/. In addition to the ‘basics’, you might also read the Exercise post. Exercise is certainly good for your health, but it won’t help much with your weight loss and you will be disappointed if you have high expectations and they are not met.

    Good Luck!

Thanks so much! I’m going to start my fasting days next weekend(wish I’d have found this Friday LOL!) because I have this phobia of passing out, so eating very few calories while I’m rushing about at work may cause unnecessary anxiety. Weekends I only have to go to an AA meeting Saturday & church on a Sunday so these days it would be very manageable to fast. Also thanks for the heads up on exercise! I will continue with my gym sessions to be stronger, but at least now I can relax the workouts a touch and not burn myself out. 😁
