  • Thin, your paragraph about “asking so many questions that the OFMs….“ could have been written by me. Exactly the same experience except they let me sleep the second time around and watched 3 episodes which I’ll have to catch up on later. I slept for 3 hours. Then I was awake until 3 am trying to get back to sleep in bed. 😳

LJoyce, what types of native birds are you seeing in your garden?

Quacks, good to see you again.

I thought I had posted this earlier but needed to edit something and found it hadn’t actually loaded, so here goes I’ll try it again, I’ve already just reposted my original attempt back in 2015, sorry for all the confusion and the repetition!😬

Hi all, posting for the first time and planning to start my 5:2 again tomorrow. I say again, because I had a half hearted stab at it a couple of years back and wasn’t fully committed at the time.
Some information about me ; I’m 52, 5’6”, 80kgs, married with 2children, living in Geraldton, Western Australia but originally from Co. Down Northern Ireland.
I’m a bit unsure about putting myself “out there” on this forum as I’m quite a shy private person but all the more reason to just do it I guess!
I’m booked in for surgery in 3 weeks 🤭 for a total hip replacement, probably genetic, as my brother also had to have the same procedure at 51. I blame my parents completely for this 🤣
Up until the end of February I was going to Bootcamp 3 times a week and was very active but had to stop all as the pain increased, hence the weight gain. On a brighter note, to finally get to the bottom of all my pain issues, after years of attending chiropractors, physiotherapists etc with hip pain is a relief though quite confronting to face such drastic surgery at a relatively young age!
Phew, life story almost up to date, my main problem dietary wise would have to be my alcohol consumption, coming from a cold climate to glorious sunshine is like summer holidays every day and you just need a beer or glass of vino in the evenings to celebrate! (Even after ten years)🤣👏🤪 BUT my husband has very gallantly volunteered to drink my wine as well as his own, to take one for the teams as it were.😉😍 Okay enough already about me. Here goes nothing…….talk soon, feeling quite nervous 😩😬

    Hi everyone.

Looking forward to my first FD today for June – need to get back on track! Planning on lots of fluids and minimal food today.

Enjoying catching up with all your interesting posts!

Feel I’ve been lazy in the last few weeks, with family happenings! My brother has been home for 2 weeks – specialists met last Friday to discuss his follow-up care, still waiting on outcome!

Need to be more focused, and mindful, for better health all round. Also need to do more walking each week.

Warm welcome to all the new 5:2’s.

I can relate to your shyness jruth1 – I had never been on any forum before, possibly because of shyness – the fellow 5:2’s here are so encouraging, supportive and very willing to share their experiences, which is so helpful to me on every level. Enjoy being here, they’re a wonderful group!

Best wishes to each of you for a wonderful Monday.

Congrats to all those on a downward spiral, those maintaining, and also to everyone else for making the big decision to live a more healthier life!

Enjoy whatever you are getting up to and bye for now!

Hello all and welcome back jruth.

Had a blood test this morning to see if my iron levels have improved with taking iron supplements for the last 3 months. Unfortunately there is a Dr shortage and i have to wait 3 weeks for an appointment to find out the results.

For those who have access to Netflix I recommend watching the Pete Evans doco The Magic Pill. Its copped a bagging from the press and the medical/pharmaceutical groups which Im sure has stemmed from ignorance and lack of understanding about low carb way of eating. Plus the medical assoc/pharmaceutical groups dont want us to be healthy cause if we were we wouldn’t need to consume the medicaton they produce (rant over). Ive watched it twice in the last week and thoroughly enjoyed it.

MissD and i are going hiking through the gorges in the hills on the weekend, life has been very hectic of late so looking forward to spending one on one time with her. Will be interesting to see how my stamina holds up seeing as ive put on a few kilos since our last hike.

    Happy Monday everyone

Hi Gday – just watched The Magic Pill – wow, so much to digest – please excuse the pun, totally unintended! :-)) definitely worthwhile watching

Cali. No one should go near one of those things.

Cinque. The kids like to do their own thing. They are generally into multi-media, except one who insists that water colour is the easiest medium. Most satisfying possibly, but I find it the most unforgiving.

Thin, I hope your friend still has that Shepherd, an original is now worth a lot of money. The only originals hanging in my house are either by people no-one has heard of or by OH.

LJoyce, using the phone as a hot spot is a new one to me. Unfortunately around here it works the other way round – poor phone reception so my phone piggybacks on the house wifi, which comes in by land line. Fibre is now possible so I’m thinking of going to that.

Had the day in the garden. Finally finished digging my veg patch. Today is FD, but not water fast, so I ate a few green things and a very small amount of pickled herring at lunch time and I have just had asparagus and poached eggs, followed by strawberries. We have been picking asparagus for a month and should stop soon to let the plants recuperate. It is probably as well. In that month a short row gives us enough fo me to get bored with it, even though I have found a neighbour who will take some from me.

    Hi Everyone
Welcome jruth1. There are lots of people with a wealth of information here so don’t hesitate to ask questions. 🙂
Oh what a pain not having enough cupboards in the kitchen.LJoyce. Do you have enough room to put in a buffet or hutch. I have one in my dining room where I put my wine glasses and seving plates etc
I’d never heard of dessert pizzas until we started going to a new pizza place a few years ago, they do Nutella and one with peaches and white chocolate. He gave us a free tasting but it’s not for me.
Lol at Thin for sleeping through the movie twice I never fall asleep on the couch maybe I sit on it too much during the day 😉
Hope you had a lovely day with your sisters Cinque. Mine is coming Friday with my mum 😀
My DDs offer on the house was accepted and now doing all.the.paperwork.!
OH and I have to fill out pages of paperwork to be taken off older DD loan as guarantors and now this lot practically want to know the colour of our undies! They have up to 2 weeks to have it approved. Yesterday they had a builder do a building and pest report.
I had a lovely 3 days away with 3 of my girlfriends. I was good Friday but not that good on Saturday ( did someone mention pizza 😀) I left weighing 58.4, was 60.2 on Monday morning but after yesterday’s FD I was 58.8 this morning so I am pretty pleased with that. Today is a ‘mindful’ day for me- not as strict as a FD but under my TDEE. I also plan a walk with the dog. I did 3 last week so I’m hopefully getting into a habit 😀
    Have a great one! Xx

Penguin, we have never planted asparagus but there is a large asparagus farm we see on our way to Phillip Island so it should grow well here. I’ll have to look into that as we love it too.

StayinThin. It is a time consuming crop with a short season. It takes two to three years to start giving a yield and has to be weeded by hand. The good side is that the plants last a long time, mine are 14 years old, and you are growing something that is expensive to buy.

    Hi everyone. Just checking in!

Had a very good FD yesterday – managed to have fluids only till 5.30pm, then protein and veges. Scale down 1kg this morning, from yesterday morning. A little ‘whoosh’ and I’ll take it! Hopefully, finally back in the swing of things. Feels good 😉

    Enjoying reading your posts!

I hope you all have a very good week! Enjoy whatever you are getting up to and bye for now!

I have just caught up with my reading having risen at 4.30am to launch DD to India. I got a speeding ticket on the way to the airport; I’m so cross with myself as I absolutely never speed consciously but sometimes I go slightly over momentarily before correcting it. If you’re not driving exactly at the limit, there’s usually someone on your tail letting you know about it. It wouldn’t have been more than 4km over but I’ll be relieved of $100 no doubt. My fault.

Stay, great news for your daughter. Funny about the colour of your undies being needed for the loan application. I believe you said she’s living at home. I’ll be so sad when my DD leaves us; it’s bad enough that she’s gone for 4 weeks. We’re going to meet her in Sri Lanka on her way back so we have a short holiday together to look forward to. Already planned out my 6:1 FD routine for that.

Arel, I’m pleased that your brother is now home and can be surrounded by loved ones in a more natural environment.

Penguin, yes our friends still have the David Shepherd painting. I love asparagus and it would be a dream to be able to find it growing in the garden.

LJ, it’s hard to believe you’re living in Australia with all those delays for utility services. There’s no excuse for that. I hope you find your rhythm soon. Asparagus, poached egg and smoked salmon is one of my favourite FD meals. 195 cals.

Welcome jruth. We could do with a few more posters from this side of the country.

I’ve woken to 59.5kg on my FD. It’s going to be a long day as I have a bridge lesson ending at 9pm. It’s not even 7am and I’ve been up for over 2 hours already.

    Have a great day all.

Good morning everyone. Just checking in!

We have an expected top temp of 16’C today – currently 11’C and raining steadily. Sounds so nice on a tin roof! No sign of sunshine.

Feel like a lazy day today – may sort out some old clothes and make more cupboard space!

Watched ‘The Magic Pill’ on Netflix last night – sure makes you think about where our original nutrition intake, of so long ago, has ended up being so distorted and unhealthy now. Well worth watching!

So sorry that I haven’t been commenting on individual posts lately – I do enjoy reading them all.

Enjoy whatever you are getting up to and bye for now!

Thin – 4 weeks India for your DD, that should be exiting – it’s one of the places I have not been to. And you all getting together for a week in Sri Lanka sounds lovely – do you have anything specific planned for that week?

Would you have quantities for your Asparagus, poached egg and smoked salmon or is the recipe listed somewhere in this forum?

Have a great day, despite being fleeced for $100

Good morning everyone. I need a lazy day too, Arelkade, after a lovely time with my sisters.
Congratulations on that nice 1kg gone!

Thin, so annoying to get that ticket. But glad that your saw DD off safely, and I hope she has a wonderful 4 weeks!
    Enjoy that bridge session.
One of my sisters is part of a recorder music group in her home town. But their practice time coincided with the bridge group, who complained and banished them to another building. Haha. I thought of you.

Welcome Jruth2, how did your fast day go? A good idea of getting a few good weeks in before your hip operation and then, with any luck, you will be organised to keep 5:2ing as you recover.
Please keep posting, we are glad to have you here. Hopefully we will be helpful to you, but your experience will be helpful to us too.

Oh, home help is here. Must go.

    Fast Day for me tomorrow!

Sybs, yes the quantities can be found on our recipe page here: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/southern-hemispherites-fd-recipes/

India is a complex place and well worth a trip. I travelled in the north as a backpacker decades ago and didn’t return until my OH was working there for a year in the south just a few years ago. DD will be staying in one place, hill station Ooty, volunteering at UK vet Luke Gamble’s charity, WVS. She’s hoping to get some valuable surgical experience. As for Sri Lanka, we’ve never been and I’m only just learning about it as I booked the trip on impulse. We’ll be there for two weeks and I plan to practice 6:1 starting with a 24 hour fast on the travel day.

    Speaking of which, where’s Merry?

Cinque, thanks, did your sisters wear you out? Those bridge players are pretty gruff, huh? The experienced players arriving as we’re leaving definitely look like they’re not to be messed with!

A quick post while I wait for the locksmith to call me back.

Fasting today and continuing with the unpacking.
Hopefully there will just be the study left to complete by the end of today.

The blinds people come tomorrow morning to do a measure and quote.

One neighbour introduced herself yesterday and has invited me to afternoon tea tomorrow so meet some other neighbours – and I was worried about leaving my friendly neighbours in the hills!

I made an impression on the new neighbours this morning. I heard the rubbish truck coming down the street at 6:30 an realised my bins weren’t out. So there I was in my pj’s dragging bins out to the footpath.

I’m still eating far too much on NFD – lots of afternoon grazing.

    Greetings from Melbourne,
Fast Day for me. I’m on my (metaphorical) surfboard and I am going to ride the wave of the day.

I had such a lovely time with my sisters, it is the first time we have all been together for ages, at least six months. Lots of laughter and sharing. I am a little bit worn out, but a slow day should fix me (yesterday turned out to be quite active).

Thin, I’m sure you will have a wonderful time in Sri Lanka. I’m envious. I love Sri Lankan food, and I know there is also wonderful things to see. Two weeks! What fun.

LJoyce, how lovely to be meeting the neighbours.
Ha yes, that early morning race between the truck with its loud grumbling engine and flashing yellow light, and one poor human with pj’s and a full bin. Glad you won!
Luckily my truck has to go down the street, turn round and come back so I get extra time.

Cheers to the blinds people today!

Hello to everyone! Best wishes for a great day!
Eat food. Not too much (especially the fasters). Mostly plants. 🙂

    Happy Thursday everyone.

Im pleased to report as of today ive lost 2.8kg in 3 weeks since returning from Bali from my over indulgence on food and alcohol. I can certainly see and feel the difference. Still a couple more kgs to go and my size 8 clothes will feel comfortable again rather than snug.

Glad to see some have watched The Magic Pill and found it interesting and informative. Just wondering if anyone follows Dr Eric Berg from America on facebook and youtube. He is a promoter of intermittent fasting, low carb and ketosis. His daily posts are informative and he addresses specific subjects and questions….another one worth watching.

Must get back to work…..fast day for me.

Good advice Cinque! I shall try to follow it today. Yesterday I managed to stay awake and reasonably coherent from 4.30am until 10.30pm on 350 cals. My day ended with a two hour evening bridge workshop which was loads of fun. (But only because we don’t know what’s going on most of the time).

GDSA, I haven’t seen that yet – mainly because I’m not a fan of Pete Evans (I found MKR highly irritating and never watched commercial TV again after enduring the never-ending first season of that) but now that people here are recommending The Magic Pill, the main barrier is finding a time when OH isn’t around. I’d also like to see MM’s doco shown this week on SBS about the over-use of broad spectrum antibiotics. Well done with the weight loss.

LJ, I think we’re going to have to change your name to PJ now. What’s going on with the afternoon snacks? You’ll have to educate your new, friendly neighbours too. Have fun.

    Hi everyone
Late night post from me. It was meant to be a FD but OH broke out the bikkies and pate before dinner and the grandkids were eating pretzels so I had a few of both but at least I didn’t eat until then – about 4.30pm
Tomorrow my mum and sister are coming over for lunch. DD will be home and older DD is coming over for lunch before her physio appointment. I’ll babysit and then the grandkids will stay the night as she and her DH are going out for dinner with friends. My 5yo granddaughter is having a curriculum day so no school – yay for me 😄. I’ve made a pumpkin soup and my sister will bring some dinner rolls.
It won’t be a FD and I will do a roast for dinner. My younger DD will hopefully hear back from the bank tomorrow and then she and her DH will house sit elsewhere for 10 days.
Sounds like you had a wonderful time with your sisters Cinque. How many do you have?
Thin, what a fantastic opportunity for your DD. I’d love to go to Sri Lanka. My sister is married to a Sri Lankan. We are all part of their extended family. They are so lovely and I do love their food too. My sister has been there a couple of times.
    G’day, that’s a fantastic effort. I don’t know that I’d ever get to a size 8 – not in tops anyway 😉
Well OH is sounding like it’s time for bed so goodnight/day to you all xx

Hmm I did a pretty long post but it has disappeared but it’s bedtime now so I can’t repost. Good night all xx

So sorry that lovely long post disappeared Stay, I hope you might have a chance today to write again.

Congratulation Gday on that impressive loss. It must feel great.

Wow Thin, I am impressed that you played bridge at the end of a fast day. I have trouble doing anything that requires concentration.

I did have a good fast day though and am enjoying my day after.

Cheers to everyone who is keeping on keeping on, and those that have to pick themselves up and start again. It is a cold, grey rainy day here, but a precious new day nonetheless. Best wishes all.

Glad your FD went swimmingly Cinque. Stay, it’s so annoying when a post disappears, I think it’s happened to most of us.

Tonight, we’re going for ‘an Indian’ with friends. I must try not to sabotage my good, low weight.

The end of my second FD of the week and I wasn’t very tempted today. Hope I lose some.

LJ, it’s so nice to hear that you’ve already met some of the new neighbors and that they’re nice. That makes a new home even better.

Cinque, so nice to hear that you got together with all of your sisters. That sounds like fun!

GDay, I see that The Magic Pill is also a available to watch here on Netflix as well. After seeing this article https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb-censorship-the-magic-pill-comes-under-fire I definitely want to watch it. I don’t think the medical communities anywhere likes a doco that tries convince people that less pills and more good food are better.

Good morning SHs, enjoy the long weekend. (Penguin & Cali, it’s the “Queen’s Birthday” public holiday here on Monday. I don’t think it’s even close to her actual birthday.)

I’m fasting today and baking cheesecakes for tomorrow. Not a helpful combination.

My NFDs have been quite disastrous lately. I seem to be unable to control my eating – mostly in the afternoon. From Monday I think I need to set myself a daily goal, so that I can focus more on making that day a good food day rather than worrying about the poor food patterns that I seem to be caught up in. I need to tackle it one day at a time.

I hope everyone is happy and making better food choices than me.

    Good morning everyone!

Just checking in. Off to our local Farmer’s Market this morning – all locally produced!

My Dad is home with us for the weekend – he’s going to do his artwork: oil painting. Love having him here!

Must go – enjoy your weekend and bye for now!

    Good morning everyone,
Enjoy that Farmer’s Market Arelkade, and hello to your dad!

LJoyce, Probably sensible to bake cheesecakes on a fast day, although the smell will be torture. (I love baked cheesecakes).
I am not surprised that your NFD’s have fallen in a bit of a heap after months of strict discipline. Hooray for reset fast days, and just keep doing the best you can. You will get back to sensible eating. Hopefully nice and quickly! Good luck for your Monday goal.

Winter might be part of it too. Both my cat and I are hungrier than normal. So I am with you, looking for restraint on NFDs. I’ve got one today!

Cali, lovely to see your post. I do hope the scales reward you for your good fast day. Best wishes for your weekend.

I hope it was lovely fresh Indian food Thin, and that you came home feeling great.

Day before fast day for me and I am going to practice some of that restraint I was talking about. My danger time is around the evening meal. I don’t want to cancel out my fast day by eating all tomorrow’s calories today! Portion control Cinque!

Best wishes everyone, whatever your day might be.

Enjoying a quiet coffee and post read.

LJ, at least you have that solid foundation of two FDs as an anchor while you find your new NFD rhythm. There’s something comforting about that I find. The friends we met for dinner were surprised that I’m still practicing 5:2. It’s interesting how many people still believe that you can reach a goal weight and then revert to your old eating patterns without gaining it back. We hadn’t seen them for 7 months and she (who was always annoyingly slim) has surprisingly put on quite a bit of weight. A few years ago, she asked for info about 5:2 but the next time we saw them, she reported that it, ‘didn’t agree with her body’. I didn’t ask!

I’m just so happy to have found this wonderful WOL. While even the slimmest of my friends are tending towards weight gain, I feel very empowered to have found the answer.

Cinque, it was fabulously fresh food, thank you. I probably ate too much and then we went back to our friends’ place for tea where I overindulged again in various little sweet treats. But today is a mindful eating day and tomorrow’s a FD so all will be well. Our bodies can absorb these occasional deviations. It’s when we don’t know how to stop that it becomes a problem.

Hello CalifD, Arel, and all those who aren’t posting right now. I hope you haven’t gone too far away!

    Good Morning All
yesterday was FD and I was so hungry I did not think I would last through the day – but I did! The reward at my weekly weigh-in this morning – I had lost another kg since last Saturday morning – down to to 75 kg – I am tickled pink :-)) however, I think the cooler temps will make it more difficult to stick to our self imposed eating regime. So to everyone out there, persevere, it does pay off.

Cinque, evenings (actually later at night) are usually my most difficult times for overeating on NFD too. The day has slowed down, not as much to do other than to relax and wonder what interesting things are in the frig or pantry. I think a little overeating is a good thing, as long as it isn’t every day. I thing it keeps the metabolism humming along. FD seem to make up for that. I have a lot of overeating days but when I look at a graph of my weight on MyFitnessPal, I could draw a straight line through the ups and downs and see that my average had stayed right about goal weight since reaching my goal. (Overeating some days was less forgiving when trying to lose weight and resulted in plateaus.)

Thin, 5:2 “didn’t agree with your friend’s body” could probably be translated as “wasn’t compatible with heavy eating and/or drinking.” Or, she couldn’t follow the (simple) rules.

Sybs, great results. Some FDs are like that. I find the hungrier FDs are often attributable to what I ate the day before the FD. I use lots of warming soups! I feel the cold more so on FDs.

CalifD, that graph sounds inspiring. The friend was quite slim when she first asked me about 5:2. Something about menopause I think she said. I don’t pay much attention to the excuses.

“….wonder what interesting things are in the frig or pantry….” made me laugh. Once you start focussing on something you know is there, it’s hard to put it out of your mind, isn’t it? The only way to do that, it seems, is to eat it. My strategy is not to buy the offending items at all. However, when you live with other people, that can be hard (PJ, no excuses! 😆 ). DD once complained that ‘there’s never any junk food around’! The other day, I sold my treadmill and while pottering around in the newfound space where it used to be, I found a huge empty packet of choc. chip biscuits in OH’s workshop bin. He’s none too subtle.

Just taking a break while the final layer of the final cheesecake bakes. This final one is a traditional new york style cheese cake with the set sour cream layer on top. Everything looks ok so far and I’ve done just the tiniest taste to get the amount of lemon in the souffle cheesecake right.
I think I mentioned before that I offered to make cheesecakes for my cousin’s daughter’s wedding reception. Well the bride is back in town for the long weekend – she lives with her fiancee now – he’s a farmer over near the NSW/QLD border. That side of the family is coming to morning tea tomorrow to see my house. I thought I’d give the bride a cheesecake taste test (and do a test of my recipes in my new oven to be sure I’ve got the temps and timings right). That way she can tell me which flavours and styles she wants for the wedding.

Sybs & GDSA congrats on the weight loss

Cinque & Thin, tanks for the advice. I need to do a Merry and climb back on that horse – I’m just having a bit of trouble catching it at the moment.

Arel, enjoy having your dad home – as I’m sure he’ll enjoy being there.

Hi Cali, Penguin, Stay, and anyone else who I’ve missed that’s reading at the moment.

Time to turn off the oven and make a cup if tea.
Does stirring cheesecake mixtures count as exercise?

LJ, is the wedding going to be in the Adelaide area, or near the NSW/QLD border? Do you love baking and cooking in your new kitchen? It looked so nice and spacious in the pictures you posted, back when you were looking for houses. Has it been warm enough to use the veranda yet? Hopefully you still have a few warm days before the winter sets in.

Thin, so the treadmill has been replaced with chocolate chip biscuits? 😳

Cali, the wedding is in the Adelaide Hills. It’s the reason I wanted the bride to have a say in cheesecake flavours by tasting. She’s had to make lots arrangements either by phone or through her mother (my cousin). Given how hands on most brides like to be I thought this must be a bit frustrating.
Baking in this kitchen is amazing. The central island is huge and I had all my stuff spread out over it while baking. It almost makes up for the cramped cupboard storage. The oven behaved itself, but I’ve recorded the actual cooking times for the wedding bake in October.

A quick post as they are turning off the electricity for the day soon, to work on the street’s power. (Unless they change their minds)
    Fast day!
I’ve a big pot of tea made and I can make a coffee on the gas stove.
I’ll go over to my daughters when I get too cold.

Cheers to everyone. Enjoy this special day.

Cinque, I watched what I assume was the final episode of Endeavour last night. Clever how they cast the real wife (widow) of the original Morse in that one. I wonder if there are any plans to make an Insp. Thursday spin-off from this.

That’s some decision to turn off the power at the weekend when most people would be home thereby causing the most disruption to the greatest number of people. D’oh! Does double time have anything to do with that, I wonder?

FD for me and I’m at 59.8kgs so no harm done from the Indian restaurant.

wow Thin, 59.8 kg – I can’t remember the last time I was below 60kg. How many kg have you actually lost with 5:2 and over how much time (I hope it’s ok to ask)?
Have a lovely FD – I am still doing 4:3 so my first FD of the week is tomorrow

Sybs, I think I was about 83kg when I started 5:2. It took me a year to lose the weight. Prior to 5:2, I had been following my GP’s advice to lose 1kg per year for the rest of my life. It sounded like a more reasonable goal that constantly being depressed with the daunting prospect of needing to lose 20kgs. In following that min-goal advice, I had lost 5kgs from Jan-Aug before discovering 5:2 at which point my life changed forever. I never intended to, or dreamed that, I would reach 60kg, I just hoped to lose 10kg, but it was all so easy that I just carried on until a lengthy plateau told me that I had probably reached my healthy weight. I now weigh less than my OH for the first time ever and less than on my wedding day. It was very exciting the day I discovered that I could zip up my wedding dress (with me in it). I know that you will do it too, Sybs!

    Happy Sunday arvo everyone.

Well im indulging today before officially commencing the low carb/paleo eating regime tomorrow. As i write OH has scones baking in the oven for afternoon tea and we have a selection of cheeses, bits n pieces and bickies plus red wine to eat/drink while we watch the Crows match on tv late this arvo.

Yesterday’s hike with Miss D didnt go ahead due to rain so instead we went for a drive through the hills, visited the op shops and ate our picnic lunch in tbe car.

Scones are ready….will finish my post after ive eaten

    Hi Everyone,
Cinque, our power was off about 10 days ago and will be off again for a day next week. I’m my new kitchen I will have a gas stove!
Ljoyce, you are so thoughtful. I’m sure the future bride was very thankful to do a taste test.
We had lots of people over on Friday and then unexpected guests for dinner. They brought some homemade bread with caraway seeds. It was still very fresh the next day and I had more with soup. Today OH is helping son-in-law with renovations and I did partake of partypies and sausage rolls for lunch there. I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s FD. Don’t know that I will risk going on my scales tho 😟
Have a great long weekend xx

    Good morning everyone,
We’ve got a precious sunny day. I will be sitting out at lunchtime, soaking up the midday sun.
My powerless day didn’t eventuate yesterday, but I was exhausted from preparing for it and waiting for it, as well as a long walk with a darling toddler the day before, so I was pleased to just get thorough the fast day with a bit of housework and henna-ing my hair.

Ooh Stay, a gas stove does make a difference! (But you do need matches)
Enjoy your fast day today! I hope that delicious sounding homemade bread didn’t do any damage.

Sybs, a belated congratulations! Was 75 kg a mini goal? You made it anyway. Cheers and celebrations. ‘Onwards and downwards’ as Merry says 🙂

Gday, welcome to your new diet. Good luck with it. It will be interesting to hear how it suits you.

Thin, I caught up with the ‘last of the season’ episode of Endeavour yesterday after reading your post, and thought he must really be moving to London. But he got his promotion at the end! So I checked Wkipedia and next weeks TV guide and am glad to see they are starting the next series straightaway (only made this year!) and Inspector Thursday is getting ready for retirement, but they are both still in Oxford 🙂

I’m glad the Indian food was so good. I hope it was a lovely fast day.

LJoyce, I hope the cheesecake tasting went well, and you had a lovely social time in your new home. So glad you have an obedient oven!

I’m with you, getting back on the horse today. All the strategies are go. I need to make non fast days normal days, and they have been sneaking up again.
Cali, good luck to you too. (I think I am going to have to make a timetable of things to do, being stuck in the house is so conducive to eating).

Well, I am off to have a productive Monday. Wish me luck.
And good luck to all of you, for your day.

Happy to report a comfortable 59.2kg after yesterday’s FD. For a long time, I haven’t been losing weight after FDs, just remaining steady.

Cinque, I read with interest what you wrote about Endeavour. I hadn’t picked up his promotion – only the medal for saving the country. So, I am relieved, thank you! The young Miss Thursday is a bit of a risqué one, isn’t she? Good luck with your productive Monday.

Stay, we have a gas stove, no matches, but this week the gas will be randomly turned off in our street while new meters are being fitted. Fortunately, it’s no drama for me when the stove isn’t working (quite the opposite)! Heating would be a different matter but we have gas central heating in the original part of the house and reverse cycle in all the new parts.

    Good afternoon/morning everyone!

Enjoying catching up with all your informative and interesting posts for the last few days! Love reading them all – unfortunately, sorry not to be responding to each one. My mind has many things to think about just now, and answering each post would be a bit daunting, so sincere apologies once again 😃. I enjoy trying to imagine the scenarios that are painted in each post!

My dear Dad has just gone back to the nursing home – enjoyed every bit of his visit. He completed his latest oil painting so feels really good about that!

Congratulations to all those currently on a downward slide – very pleased for each of you.

Having a lazy Monday afternoon -just had lunch: ham salad on a plate, no bread! Considering a low carb/high fat with average protein diet, with same 2 FD’s per week. There are many carbs I can do without! I know some of you have experience with LCHF and wonder if it’s manageable long term! Comments much appreciated.

Must go! Enjoy whatever you are getting up to and bye for now!

I did LCHF a few years ago for about 18 months. As far as weight loss it was ok, but I find the 5:2 (n my case 4:3) WOL a lot more natural. Also with the LCHF I actually had “the shakes” for a couple of weeks at the beginning, which I think was carb withdrawal – at the time I lived in Bali and probably had rice twice a day. I am sure others have different experience with LCHF.

Arel, I never did well with LCHF diets. I was able to lose weight but always felt a lack of energy. I think I like fruit too much and it was always restricted on low carb diets. 5:2 is easier for me because most days I don’t have to think much about it. FD are usually easy although once in a while I’ll have a difficult one. But I do like the idea of healthy fats on NFDs. I agree that fats keep me feeling full longer. I think you should go with whatever feels most natural to you and what fits into your daily schedule. That’s the only way to maintain the weight loss once you get to your goal.

So glad to hear that your dad had a good weekend with you.

    Good evening,
I’ve had a good eating day and a reminder of how my body sends me hunger signals when it really means thirsty signals. I need to keep on my toes.

Arelkade, one of my darling twin doctors presented a program on carbs on the BBC in Britain a few days ago. I know all about it because I follow him on twitter 😉
Here are a couple of links he posted that you might find interesting:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/4DfZMpv7BYJ3kGXdHxdxkKp/10-things-you-may-not-know-about-carbs
    https://www.bbc.com/food/collections/better_for_you_carbs

I was always confused by the low carb arguments because I count my whole grains, beans and lentils, root vegetables and nuts and seeds as carbs. The wonderful fibre in fruits and veggies are carbs! And often people would go on about carbs without mentioning that sugar is carbs too.
So I rather like that recipe link talking about ‘better carbs’.
    Good luck with it all!

In my mind I have divided carbs into useful ones (like fibre, legumes, nuts and seeds etc) and useless ones. With the 5:2 WOL I have no problem at all having “useful” carbs, but still not going overboard with them. For example I know that 1/3 cup of uncooked rolled oats has 17g of carbs, but I also know that rolled oats are really good for lowering cholesterol, so a couple of times each week I have rolled oats. I hope this makes sense to others, as it really makes sense to me :-))

    Hi again,
Just to let you know I did have a productive day, thanks Thin. And yes, oh dear Miss Thursday. I hope she decides to be a doctor or something, and is given the chance to do it.
I’ve had my early dinner (I made this a 2 meal day). I’ve done some extra cleaning, successfully taken in a pair of trousers so they fit better, and patched and washed a hand knitted child’s jacket my friend made and gave me before my daughters family moved back to Melbourne (it is too woolly for Sydney). I’ve got it done before they both grow out of it! I only did a little bit on the Business Plan because the computer is having a bad slow day, but I did manage a bit. And it’s a public holiday so that makes it a bonus.

How is DD finding India, Thin?

How are you going with 5:2 at the moment Cali, have you been able to keep at it or are those nasty meds still messing you around?

A big shout out to everyone else.
    Best wishes to all.

Hi guys… Just wondering how we calculate calories in salads?? Iv been having a cucumber spinach tomatoes carrots and radish salad for lunch just salt and lemon dressing. But I don’t know how I work out the calories

    Hi Everyone
Little me, I use an app called My Fitness Pal where I can put the ingredients in to work out the calories.
Cinque, isn’t it great to have to take in clothes!! 🙂
Sybscairns, I agree with you about the carbs. Some are good and necessary. I feel much better in my tummy if I don’t have bread, cake and biscuits but I don’t have much willpower 🙁
Arelkade, nice to have your dad with you for the weekend.
FD for me today. I just had one meal and a couple of coffees. I will try and have a mindful day tomorrow but it is my fortnightly Cake Tuesday :).
My DD and her hubby are housesitting for friends and I’m enjoying 2 less people in the house for the next week. I should get used to it as their finance was approved subject to our bank approving us to be guarantors. It will be fine but we are waiting for paperwork to go thru to take us off as guarantors for other DD. They will move in 6 WEEKS!! 🙂
Have a great one everybody xx
